Title says it all really,
When I go to write an SMS I can add one recipient no problem at all.
If I then try to add another the app force closes and I'm dumped back to the homescreen.
This has only started since an OTA .534 update.
Anyone else having a similar problem?
CORRECTION:
I can message multiple contacts successfully.
The crash always happens if I try and text my friend Alan. - As soon as I type the 'L' it force closes.
Bizarre but I can live with it..
Hello, i've just test no problem.
I've just seen your correction, very strange.
But i don't have Alan in friend.
Try to add Alan in first or change friend

Tried adding in first and it still crashes...It's so odd.
Thought his contact might be corrupt but if I just enter an 'A' and scroll down the list and pick him it adds and sends no problem.
Just been testing more and it apparently doesn't like 'AL' or 'AS'
I've some Alain in my directory, I've add them all and no crash...
Very strange

Does anyone experience not being able to scroll in Messaging, after opening a message and closing it again? It works when first starting Messaging, but doesn't after opening the first message...
Nope - works fine for me. Sometimes the messaging app does funny things. Have you tried a soft reset...and does the behavior persist?

Yeah, I'm soft-resetting all the time. I'll try a hard-reset later this week to see whether it's being caused by some of the custom app's...
Hello,
I have the same problem than you, but i never had an answer to this problem.
If you find a solution, please tell me,...
Good evening
Im having problems with Google Talk on my phone.
Normally, if u start a chat. and the other person is talking back, u should see the txt under your own txt. But i only see it as a balloon in my top-tray of the phone and do not see the txt written by the other person in the chat overview.
Anyone knows how to solve this?

My gf and I also have Galaxy S phones. Her device is running on I9000XXJFB firmware, mine is on I9000XWJM2. Shes having kinda like the same problem with GTalk: the screen is splitted to 2 sides (top&bottom), instead of how mine works (the good old conversation-look, when A-B-A-B persons messages follow each other).
Maybe its firmware-dependent? I did not find any option to change the layout in the settings menu.
Firmware is probably a good bet. If you want to hold off, have you tested to see what happens if you turn the setting balloon top-tray setting off? Would you see nothing at all? Or would it populate the message how it should.
You probably want the best of both worlds, it's worth a quick test if you have any reason to delay upgrading firmware.
disabling the notification button in the toptray would be a bummer anyway because then i wouldnt be notified if somebody is messaging me.
i downloaded a beta version of Hi GTalk from the market. which is working as it should work so i guess my problem isnt solved with Talk it self, but with installing an alternative app.
i think you'd still receive the sound notification. As long as you are going an alternative app route, i'd. consider uninstalling and reinstalling GTalk, it might just be corrupted.
good point. i will uninstall it and reinstall.
[edit] hehe i cant uninstall it. its "in the factoryrom" so i see. i dont see it at the installed programs list..?
gtalk still problem
Hi, I have the same problem with gtalk, also after upgrade to Froyo any ideas ?
solution
Solution:
Change time zone to the right location unbelievable, but it works !!! layout is dependent on internal time zone.
Good luck
I've had this problem before where my phone was having tons of issues with sending messages. Was able to receive them though. A factory reset fixed the problem before. Not this time. Second tier death star support helped.
Messaging > Menu > Settings > Message Center
Mine was "Not Set"
If you are experiencing this problem, and have "Not Set" in this field, enter "+13123149810" without the quotes. Works perfect now.
Hope this helps someone.
I don't seem to have the Message Center option :T

Yes you do. Open the stock messaging app. Tap the menu soft key. Tap settings. Scroll down to "Text message (SMS) settings" (it's the second sub-section). It should be right under "Manage SIM card messages". Mine even has the British English spelling on it of "Message Centre".
Let me take a screenshot.. brb.
so am I seeing things right?
What rom are you running? That doesn't look stock at all.
Sent from my Captivate
Thanks! That fixed my problem with the Froyo rom I just flashed!
THANK YOU...
I did the voodoo lag fix a couple of days ago and didn't try my messaging till today. When it didn't work I came here and did a search and your thread came up. Put the numbers in and it worked....Finally something went right the first time I tried it...Now to see if MMS goes through

no problem man, glad it helped you, please hit the thanks button
Alright. The screen broke on my first Captivate because I was clumsy/stupid. Put the claim in for insurance, got a new phone, set everything up. Nice shiny phone, what could go wrong? For one single contact, it 'forgets' the area code when I go to message them from contacts or reply to their messages. I have to type in their name and choose the number from the drop down list. Very annoying as this is the person I text the most. I've seen two other threads on this subject, but there was no mention of a cure. I've tried deleting and re-entering the contacts, to no avail. I tried using GO Sms, it has the same problems. I have stock 2.1, running LauncherPro -in case that matters.
I think I'm in the clear to bump this, as it has yet to be resolved and it has been a month. Please. anyone? I'm certain I'm not the only one to experience this problem.
I just started putting the area code into my contacts' phone numbers. I did it on my PC in Google's contacts app, though.
If only it was that easy. The area code is in the contact's phone number! I click reply to a text and it will often disappear! Thanks for trying though. I remember reading once that it was a bug in the actual contact management itself, but I thought the great people here would be able to come up with a solution.
Edit: Actually, I am adding this contact to google contacts as I type, maybe your suggestion will work after all! I'm no sure yet do to the sporadic nature of the bug.

Hmm.. This is a known issue with the stock ROM.. Download and load a custom Firmware..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364 shows how to root phone and load custom roms..
For downloading custom rom, use one of them, like phoenix from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=892973

I think these methods worked for many people. Use one:
1. Do a full factory reset.
2. Open messaging
click new message
Add offending contact to the send list
click to type in the send list and hit backspace until you have deleted the incorrect phone number.
then type in the correct phone number.
type a test message and hit send to fix the contact permanently.
3. Delete the contact. Ask the contact to call you. In the call log, long press and add to contact
Adding to Google Contacts didn't work after all. I am thinking of Flashing a custom ROM tonight once I decide on which.
Thanks for the help though! It is really annoying.
Google Messages v--4.1.067 (Ettin_RC12_xxhdpi.arm64-v8a.phone) on Galaxy S10
When I open a chat with a person and tap on the "write a message" text box, instead of the text box coming up simply, the text box comes up AND it gives me the option tray of copy, paste, web search, etc. This is the thing you usually get if you double tap or press and hold. I'm getting it with a single tap and it's kinda annoying. Can anyone reproduce this? Any idea for a fix?
I have the same issue, pops up on both the stock messaging app AND google messages.
This is an issue with the March Security update or at least I hope it's an issue and not something new. I've made a post about it in the S10+ forum but haven't seen many responses to it. For me it happened every time I touched in a text field to bring up the keyboard. I know 2 other people that have the same issue after updating as well. I've rolled back to the February patch for now as it was pretty annoying for me.

Thank goodness, I thought I was the only one experiencing this. It is quite annoying.
So I've been digging into this a little and it appears to be a bug with Samsung's Clipboard History service. I can't figure out how to disable it. I tried disabling a few things using ADB with no luck. If you go into your clipboard history and "Delete All" it will no longer be an issue. I don't know if anyone knows how, but if there's a non-root method to remove Samsung's clipboard service it'll 'fix' the issue for now.

Clipboardsaveservice could be disabled with Package Disabler Pro, maybe that would do it.

Sadly I already disabled it using ADB method to no avail. I mean I could give it a try though. I'd have to re-enable it and see if it stops it.

If I delete all the clipboard, I still get a pop-up with the "auto fill" option.
I too have heard that this is a problem with the March update. I hope it's a problem as well, and not a feature.

Yeah, I discovered this shortly after my post. I wasn't using the autofill service at first. But if you get rid of your password autofill service it'll go away lol. General Management > Language and Input > Autofill Service and set it to "None". This is a work around, but Dashlane people don't have to use the autofill service.
Its a sh itty work around but whatever. I can't figure it out. I hope it's fixed in April update.

Yeah you just have to enable Dashlane in accessibility settings and it'll give you a little floating circle login.

So now I'm on the April update, and I still have the same issue with the Google Messages app. I DO NOT have the issue with the stock Samsung Messages app.
Can anyone confirm? Also, is this a Google Messages app issue at the moment? A feature?
Does anyone have a version of Google Messages that doesn't do this? I can revert back.

Does this happen any where else besides the message app? I was having this issue in any text field that required me to tap in it to bring up the keyboard. I tried both Gboatd and Samsung keyboards and they both did the same. Can't remember if I tried the stock message app or not. I've rolled back to the Feb patch and will keep ignoring the update until it's fixed.

Yeah only in Google Messages for me. Telgram X and Signal work just fine.
This is super annoying. I just wish I could know if this is a software issue or a messages app issue.

Also do you use Gboard?

No I don't use Gboard. I just realized my phone sort of does this but I never knew it. The first thing I do when I get a phone is remove the Samsung dialer, messages, etc, and install Google Dialer and messenges. Up till I played around with it upon reading your post I never touched the message area before starting to type, I've never had to. For the heck of it this morning, I touched that area and the paste clipboard pop-up appeared. Like I said, I never see that because I just start typing and never saw it that way.
This has been from the first time I used the phone on the original software.

I just downloaded SwiftKey and no difference.
When I open Google Messages and tap on a chat to open, it opens the chat with the keyboard hidden. I have to tap on the text box at the bottom of the page to activate the keyboard. Gboard, Samsung keyboard, and SwiftKey have the same behavior.
