Seeing Google owns Motorola what do you think the wait time would be for Kit Kat? Seeing the X has yet to see 4.3 I have a sinking feeling it might be awhile.
There are phones that have been out a lot longer that don't have 4.3... And 4.3 is in the testing stages... Be patient it has only been 2 months... They're still doing bug fixes... And with 4.4 right around the corner they may or may not just move to that.
Motorola doesn't get special privileges for android. They get access when everyone else does.

Being that its very close to stock Android, however, should make the upgrades a little more seamless. Theres not much to change except the specific Android functions, which might be there anyways like the touchless stuff.

Don't forget the software optimizations Moto did for this device to last waaaaaaay longer then a Nexus 4 can.

I'm with everyone else on this. Could be a while, especially if you're on VZW. Hoping the developer community kicks into high gear here pretty soon and we start seeing 4.3 ROM's well before it is an official OTA. Same for Kit Kat.
My question is: is there really a need for the update? Granted, I do want wish to install some apps that only work only with 4.3. But they are not that necessary.
With the leaks about 4.4, printing and payment option, seriously, do you really need those things?

Don't forget a lot of the updates are also under the hood optimizations that make the phone run better. Also there are some UI changes. I personally like what I saw from the leaked images today. I'm sick of the cyan blue throughout. I will like the white status bar icons much more. Good for you for being content lol. Personally I want 4.4 now even though having the vzw moto x I will probably never see it as an official ota

I've learned my lesson with non nexus phones lol. Don't expect any timely updates. I'm just gonna pick up a Nexus 5 to mess with the newest software and development. Even if development finally picks up with this phone the only good Roms (at least for me) will be the Roms based off stock and that means I'll have to wait until an official 4.4. So to curb my need for rooting and flashing I'll just use a nexus lol.

They are pushing more and more system stuff into the Play Store, and the Moto X is about as well optimized for that as can be, so at least we have that. As much as I love the AOSP I'd be happy if Googlrola pushed everything but the kernel into play services, at least for their phones.
This phone is breaking my crackflashing habit, which is probably good for me, my career, and my family.

I have a feeling that once developers start writing more roms for the Moto X, we'll get in a nice groove in terms of latest versions of Android. Whether or not it's stock-based, PA, CM, or OmniRom remains to be seen though

What should we expect to see? Will there be a motoblur intergration or will it be straight up ICS?

Keep in mind that Google now owns Motorola Mobility... if we're lucky, that will mean a more pure version of AOSP on our devices.
I'm really hoping for an AOSP build of ICS for the bionic, I love the way AOSP looks for Android 4.0
Starting to have my doubts that we get ICS from moto.... Have a feeling our developers are gonna make it work 100% for our Bionic before moto hands it to us. If moto even does hand it to us.. For the Razr Maxx to be coming out pretty soon and not even have ICS kindof makes you wonder wth moto is even doing in motoworld.
The Xoom- a Google Experience device with reference firmware- JUST today got Android 4.0. The Nexus 2 still doesn't have it officially. These things take time. It'll be April or May before we start seeing phones that are actually being released with ICS.

Or about a month ago when the Galaxy Nexus was released...
It will take a little time for us to see it, I think. Hopefully not too long. I'm pretty sure they have officially stated that they will be releasing it for the Bionic, so I would hope they don't go back on a public announcement like that.
But, it looks like we've got devs that might get a working option for us before we get something official.
The Bionic will definitely get ICS. The phone just came out in September. Moto is pretty good with updates (usually). The Google purchase has NOT gone through yet. Will not go through til Feb supposedly.
My predictions:
-We will get it in March
-It will look pretty similar to blur as it looks now
-We will not notice much difference
-On paper second core of processor is suppose to be more optimized.
--
we are lucky that the galaxy nexus as well as the newer moto phones (Razr, Razr MAXX) all use similar hardware so getting the drivers and radios up shouldnt be to difficult.
that being said its moto's skin that'll take time so we'll see. It would only be fair that they would upgrade the Bionic "fist" but who knows what will happen. I just pray ever day for an unlocked bootloader.
I wish they would throw their skin on in a similar fashion as using go launcher with beautiful Widgets so the process would be much faster. It just seems like they're making it more difficult on themselves.

Then get a different, unlocked phone. No one wants to hear whining and not everyone cares about flashing a million roms or kernels every week.
Back on topic, I fully expect the update will include most of Moto's current modifications with maybe a few less changes from stock ICS. I'm hoping they will include the same kernel as the Razr's so we can easily overclock to 1.2 GHz like they did with the 2.2 update on the original Droid.
I ditched the Bionic for a Rezound but the Bionic definitely felt like a quick phone. I just got an ICS rom for my Rezound, it was smoking fast on GB and is much smoother with ICS. The Bionic should be very fast with ICS. Maybe they can help the camera out with ICS aswell.

I actually no longer have camera problems with the liberty rom. I know the issue that you refer to as I once had it. Click the button to take a picture then wait several seconds before it actually took the picture. So inconvenient that problem was.
I'm not exactly sure what any of these newer phones can do that the bionic can't do because app developers still have to develop for the older phones because developing for the newer phones limits your user base. If your going to develop an app, you're going to develop it for as many devices as possible. By the time we start getting apps that maximize the capabilities of our phones, there will be something much better out.

The camera app problem on the bionic is totally Motorola's fault. They built the phone you would think they could write code for the hardware they chose. Again I think ICS will do wonders for the bionic. It felt like they rushed it out so they could finish the razr. Given that razr and the bionic are so similar, ICS should come much sooner for you guys.

I agree that Motorola screwed this phone up. I no longer have the camera issue with the liberty rom.
Even with all the screw ups Motorola made, I was still able to get my bionic running top notch, even without the .901 radio.
The biggest problem this phone had was after it got delayed by so much, and the hype it had, it shouldn't have had some of its initial problems. Its not like we didn't all know about this phone for 8 months before being released. Don't hype up a phone so much then fail to deliver. Even with their screw ups, I feel I have mine running as good as you can expect an android to run. I've had the thunderbolt and revolution and the bionic is far better than they were.

There's nothing out there that I feel that is worth getting rid of the bionic for. The nexus has plenty compatibility issues with running some apps (majority of Samsung phones do though) and the razr is too skinney for my taste plus I feel the marginal increase in it's specs aren't worth it. I also don't like the 3 button setup on the nexus. I'm too used to having 4 and using the 4 for so long to change my way.
We have quad core coming between now and summer that will blow everything away that's out now. Dont see any sense in replacing my phone for something that is only marginally better. Every Android has its problems and the ones I have with the bionic are manageable for me.
The only thing I could see me trading my bionic is if there is a significant increase in the app development world where more processing power is necessary. But with the fragmentation of android, an app developer would be dumb to do that because as an app developer, you want your app to be compatible with as many devices as possible. I can see some games coming out that may need more processing power though. Its only a matter of time before we start seeing PlayStation 2 emulators popping up.

Agreed. They might keep their promise, but most likely release 4.1 long after 4.2 is already out.
IMO they need to quit bowing to the carriers. Make their handsets according to the original principles of the Open Handset Alliance - fully open source, fully unlocked. If the carriers don't like it, tough, let them make their own damn locked phones. After enough consumers get burned by the lock-in, they'll all start choosing unlocked phones.

Agreed. Similar to the G2, other than a few tweaks here and there, building a ROM defeats a lot of the stock features. Which in my opinion like the X, are very useful.
Now, if we were taking touchwiz, ROMS are needed to get rid of a lot of the crap!!!

Actually, Lollipop is proving harder to crack for root access than our phones very own bootloader. I hate to say this but rooted users may be behind stock for the first time ever in just a few short months.
As long as I still have root, I'll be OK staying on KitKat. I'm not going to assume Lollipop will be rooted until it happens. They're making these phones and operating systems harder and harder to root, until one day there will only be development phones which will have root.

If this was the mindset of of programmers and hackers there would never be a rooted phone. It doesn't matter how hard android tries to stop it there will always be a way found to get around it plain and simple. It's why the security industry is making billions every year. There is not a single device on the planet that is fully capable of being 100% secure. And there never will be a device made like this as long as humans continue to make the devices. I don't disagree with you, but users are starting to steer clear of devices that are difficult to root. Just look at the at&t note 4. Not even a hint of root and very little developer interest. People would rather just get the t-mobile version. Samsung and at&t seem to be a bad combination for people who want to root and ROM moving forward. Unless we get a developer edition like Verizon.

I'm honestly looking forward to getting rid of my S5. It's a nice phone, but I love the pure google feel like my Nexus 7 has. I'll be upgrading to a Nexus 6 soon. The touchwiz is just ugly, and I certainly don't want a bloated unrootable version of lollipop. The development for this phone is dead, no updates for months now. I'm a flashaholic so I'm absolutely bored out of my mind. If it wasn't for the messed up proximity sensor on the S4 I have I'd probably be using that and flashing like crazy.
When I spoke to an AT&T rep yesterday, they were saying that AT&T has Lollipop and they are modifying it for our devices, with a tentative release date of Feb 2015...
We'll see how much that holds water.
I would be shocked if Lollipop could push anything that'd make me risk giving up just a rooted KK.

I completely agree with your statement. Honestly, I really am considering selling my S5 and getting something else.
I am honestly thinking about jumping ship from at&t all together and going to t-mobile as they don't have bootloaders locked down on their devices yet, plus I think their data plans and what not are better than at&t's current plans. The only issue I have with t-mobile is they don't have quite the selection of Android devices available that at&t does.

Symbian was the most secure mobile phone OS. I do not know why nokia ditched it in favor of windows phone and meego, Symbian still had so much potential.

I actually never used symbian. Some how samsung keeps sucking me in with the next phone or watch so I've given up root for now. I'm using the note edge just to try something different and it is pretty complete with out root. But the developers always make samsung ROMs smoother.

Rumor is Verizon s5 has lollipop on the way out.
Has anyone seen a Moto X pure ROM port for Nexus 6? I've looked everywhere, nothing shows up.
A port of a rom from a device that nobody even has yet? That would be impressive.

Its completely different hardware. People could not even port the Moto X Pro to the Nexus 6 and those are the same device.
This is not ever going to happen.

Never say never in the android world. If miui, flyme, and other different os can be ported over to different phones then it is possible. Just gotta have the right amount of interest

Don't have Mui yet and have no clue what Flyme even is. So have a long wait coming unless you got a dev in your pocket.
There was a thread a while back where a few users were trying to port the OS from the Moto X Pro, but there didn't seem to be much interest in it so it died.
Since the Moto X Pure is running proprietary closed source software, on completely different hardware, I bet that there won't be a ROM port. Some apps maybe, but definitely not a full ROM. Very rarely do full closed sourced ROMs get ported between devices. And even when they do, there often are issues (performance or things just not working).

Jeez, dude. The X Pure hasn't even been RELEASED yet. Patience.
I heard the ROM for Moto X Pure is pretty awesome. In the past, ROMs have leaked from devices when the device isn't even out. I don't know why there is a surprise I asked this? I just thought someone had more info then others. We will wait and see if anyone does decided to do something with it.

I agree! I would like to see this ROM and use some of the Moto apps on the N6.
