Hey guys,
I bought a nexus one few months and I love this phone. its stock, not rooted! but I am really tempted of rooting it after I read a lot about it (customizations of stuff). I am fairly new to the android interface and I was wondering if I should root my phone now? since GINGERBREAD is on its way, should I wait for it and then root it? Also, would it be possible if in future after i root my phone, would there be a way to get my phone back to the stock or factory settings because everywhere I read it wasn't clear to me.
One more thing, As I said I'm new to the whole android thingi, can someone tell me site where I can find some good info on stuff like rooting, apps, customization, themes, etc ,etc.
Thanks a ton!

As for reverting back, you will always be able to revert back to stock firmware, but if you unlock bootloader, it will remain unlocked.
What are the difference/s if I unlock bootloader it or not? As per my research, it is true that I wouldn't be able to get any updates on the firmware only if I do it manually?
Hello,
I'm searching for a simple method to root my daughters new S3mini 4.1.2.
I just to ceep it as it is (stock ROM etc), I only need root to install recovery, Pdroid, Firewall...

my deustch is rusty but google search works just fine
too many "clever dicks" here that are too lazy to search or do things the hard way
nothing simple about rooting a phone in most cases since you could potential soft brick your phone if you use the wrong software
have a search through the forums there are plenty of tutorials on how to root the phone and lots of help in fixing it if you fail to root it
first rule of these XDA forums
Thanks folks - I understood "no", so I have to do the hard way.
I just had the hope the manufacturer have learned from the results of the communities like here and recognised the benefits of root access.
I fear I see you later... when google doesn't help

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2147852 this as easy as it will get. flash recovery via odin, flash root.zip via cwm, install triangle away and reset binary counter.
or you could use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2185700 which is guides you through it but might cost you depending on your phone.
good luck!

even though there are benefits to having root access there are also risks involved
android is designed in this way as a form of security
each individual application creates its own user when its installed
the user created by the application is then restricted to only being able to access the files for the application and no other files
Thaks!
@Gabhain
Thank you - That's I was looking for!
Hello,
After coming back from holiday, my phone suddenly stopped recognising my SIM. It see's a SIM so I no longer get an (Insert SIM Message) but I can't do anything with the sim. This is what I see.
Due to this problem I tried resetting my phone to no avail, I then stumbled upon this. I thought that this was fantastic, I could fix it without going to a store or whatever.
On my quest to root my phone for the first time ever I used a guide from the reliable How-To-Geek. I did everything the guide asked me to but unfortunately my adventure came to a halt when 'SuperOneClick' kept freezing when reaching step 7.
I have never rooted my phone so I really don't know where to begin, your help would be greatly, greatly appreciated! :good:
P.S (I have never rooted or ROM'd this phone before?
Here is what you can do
Which model is it ?? International or is it a locked network ??

Hello, do you mean for the SIM? It is the exact same as the screenshot of my settings in the first post. This is because I didn't manage to root it yesterday
The phone is completely fine apart from the SIM problem, that's why I want to root it
The __ONLY__ Current method you should be using to root is the philz kernel method. do not use any other method.
Please go to the philz thread.
PM me if you need more help later.

Thank you very much dude,
I am slightly confused by the terms used. As you can see from my thread, I initially tried using SuperOneClick which seemed simple as it just involved installing apps on my computer and clicking 'Root'.
Currently on my phone, I don't have to backup anything as I just reset it a couple of days ago, it has its stock rom (I believe that's what it is called) Would I have to install a custom ROM or something to root my phone?
Lastly, is this the thread you are talking about?
Thank you very much again dude

Super one click anything is either a lie and bull**** or simply not for this device
Yes that's the correct thread
Make sure to find the right one for YOUR ROM. Read the instructions carefully. No you don't need a custom ROM.
Easiest way to to flash it from stock recovery with the philz file on your external SD card if u have one

In your system settings you will go yo about phone. Match the version there to the Phil version.
I still don't get why you are rooting to fix this...
I am not sure who told you rooting would fix this...
You went on vacation and came back and the sim didn't work
Did you try removing the sim and reseating it in the phone?

Look at the original post. A user had the same problem and his solution was Titanium Backup Pro, he used it to clear user cache or something - this made the SIM work again.
I've taken out the SIM and everything, it works on other phones, just not mine
Lastly, about matching the version on my phone to the one on the thread:
Do I match the baseband version/Kernel Version or build number?

you match the kernel
Really man you MUST read the instructions in the philz thread its very clear.
Well you can try all that, I personally if it were my device would flash philz (safe kernel), boot to recovery, and just do a factory reset and see if it works... but I would only do this AFTER backing up my EFS using Ktool....
ggood luck
but if you want to try clearing cache etc first, no harm done of course
Just a side-note: regarding your links, etc that you post in the OP - I won't read those. I don't think other reputable members here will either. No offense please. I only trust sources on XDA, not random websites. If its not on xda, as far as I'm concerned, it is either incorrect or doesn't exist (i will act blind to it).
The Philz kernel for the Note is easy to find via google. Look either direct for the kernel or look for a PA installation guide and skip the odin option.

There is only one root account on a galaxy note, so it is the one-and-only-best.
If you want to root your device read Dr. Ketan's thread (search for it, good excercise for your brain).
And: best rom xyz posts or threads are against XDA rules.
Just read it: your best Rom thread yesterday was closed. Repeating this won't help...
I have tried every root method I could find on the internet and nothing will work. Any ideas if it is possible?
Yes, seems like no rooting app is working right now.
Have you tried the universal rooting guide?

It's reported in this thread that these root methods aren't working at all...
Anyway, if it was so simple, i think someone already got rid of it

1) no one said they tried all the "manual" methods listed in the page GeForce66 provided
2) yes if it was simple someone WOULD have rooted the Fire (i agree)
i am personally updating the old files from that page to, what i hope is, the newest versions
of the files. and then im going to try and brick my device, by trying some of the step by
step methods, provided from that page
Peace
Ricci
I don't have the knowledge to test my self so i won't brick my new tablet by testing these methods. But i wish you good luck if you try...

I tried many manual methods, the problem is the bootloader is locked and won't allow one to unlock it.

The title explains it all. I got this phone knowing I could root and install CFW, but wanted to just "use" it for a few days in stock. I don't mind stock, I would jsut prefer a custom firmware. I'm having trouble figuring out what I need to do to downgrade to Lollipop so I can flash TWRP and begin using CFW. A simple set of instructions would be very appreciated. Thanks to anyone who can help!

There appear to be guides here for doing those things with 6.0 installed, such as MicroMod777's guides.
After a few more hours of digging, I figured it out. I may draw up a cleanly laid out guide referencing the posts that helped me for people in the position I was.
Thank you!
No, you don't need to downgrade, just go ahead and install TWRP & CFW.
Careful with downgrading, becuz H811 has Q-Fuse enabled, if you mess up you'll end up with a 9008 hard brick
im having a similar issue im trying to root/unlock 20p and its not finding any device in fastboot it just sits there saying locating any device and never locates anything adb see's the phone just fine anyone know anything about that? thanks for the help in advance
Rooting stock G4H811 already on 20p?

Yea, I'm trying to root my new updated G4 that's on 20p. I have one that's soft bricked already that I'm trying to fix and don't wish to brick another.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks
Im in the same boat. No devices found after fastboot. Any advice?
