Hi guys, I finally got a Moto X today to check out what's the hype all about! I'm very excited but also very new to Android and Moto X. So will need you help.
I'm currently on Verizon 4.2.2. I want to stay on it because I do use FoxFi and 4.4 breaks it. OTA did download on the phone but I delayed the installation. Is there anyway to delete the OTA download file and force stop the OTA?
I tried to force stop the MotorolaOTA but the download resumed after about 20 seconds every time.
I rooted the device thanks for the instruction on this sites. Is my easiest route to use the paid version of Titanium Backup to freeze the MotoOTA? I want to make sure it works before I go ahead and pay for it. Any other alternatives?
Thanks for your help in advance. I tried to browse through about 20 pages or so but didn't really find the answer so I created a new thread.
Yep, go ahead and buy titanium. It works perfectly on my phone. App quarantine does not see the app. Anyone have any free alternatives?

Do you have the developer edition or regular Moto X? What phone carrier are you on?
If foxfi is what is keeping you back, usb and Bluetooth tether still works for me. As you said Hotspot will not work.

If you're rooted on 4.4 there's instructions in a thread here to get the native WiFi tethering working. Just FYI.

So do I just update through OTA , root 4.4 again and then install that package from this thread with discoverer?
Also I heard 4.4 is a bit buggy so that's why I'm holding back to see what 4.4.2 brings.
Thanks for the reply!

If you read the forums here, you can easily find answers to all your questions have already been posted. Good luck.
Background: Just received my Moto X yesterday (Ebony back, black front, silver trim, SEXY!!!). I'm coming from a Droid 4 (tired of waiting on Droid 5) and I'm hoping you guys can help point me in the right direction by answering a few general questions for me. I've browsed through some of the forums already but since the Moto X has been out a little while now there is a LOT to wade through. So....
1. What is the current state of root on the Moto X? The last I saw there is not an easy root method for Moto X on KitKat. Is that still true?
2. On my D4 we did not really have options when it come to recoveries. It was safestrap, which is great, but that was it. I think I saw a safestrap for Moto X thread somewhere but are there other recoveries like TWRP or CWM available?
3. Probably a stupid questions but what is the difference between the "Moto X Android Development" forum and the "Moto X Original Android Development" forum?
Really love the XDA community and looking forward to getting started with my Moto X and finding ways to contribute. Thanks!
Read through the dev sections ....and all will be revealed.

Not afraid of a little reading. Just trying to figure out where to start. Can you at least clarify what the difference is between the "Android Development" and "Original Android Development" sections?

OK, So I have read through a whole bunch of stuff now and I think I have root figured out. What I cannot seem to figure it out is the recovery situation. All the recoveries I see are for "Recovery Unlocked" or "Unlocked Bootloader" devices. I just have a plain old non-dev edition Moto X. Are there no compatible recoveries for regular non-dev edition Moto Xs?

You need an unlocked bootloader to use custom recoveries. But it isn't just dev edition that can be unlocked.
If you can't or don't want to unlock your bootloader (which voids your warranty), then you can't use a custom recovery.
You can still root....but no custom recovery. Which means no flashing from recovery...since stock doesn't flash.
Again....this is all in the dev section....and Google can help you find this stuff too.
I can't help further, I'm not an expert at the unlocked bootloader root stuff, as I unlocked my bootloader on day one.

You have to unlock the boot loader at Motorola's website. That way they know and your warranty is void. Lol

Hello everyone,
I am posting here today on the topic of the Moto X OS Updater. I have the VZW Moto X Dev Ed running Rooted Kit Kat 4.4. I do not want the new update and it is asking me everyday if I would like to install. As I am not interested in doing so I would like to remove this. Is there a way to shut down the updater or maybe even remove the apk? If so what is it called or how do I do so?
Thanks in advance!

The main reason people want to get back to 4.2.2 is to root. with the DE you can root with any version because of the unlocked bootloader.

From what others are posting using the unofficial fxz, you can run the 4.4 system with the 4.4.2 bootloader and I would presume the 4.2.2 system, too although I don't see where anyone has specifically tried that. However, if you do run a lower version of the system than the bootloader and accidentally take the 4.4.2 OTA again, you will brick. So you would need to freeze the OTA app to avoid that.

Method to root Moto X Android 4.4.4 Verizon.?
1. Did you bother searching? You might not be the first person to ask.
2. Buy a developer edition and sell your phone or take a chance with the middleman in China to unlock your bootloader.

Boot into recovery and flash one of the su zips that corresponds to the root app of your choice. If you don't have an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery, then you can't root.

It's like Google, only contained within the forum.
But why search when you can just scroll down a couple lines to find your answer? Better yet, why scroll down when you can just click the "post new thread" button?

I don't think Verizon is pushing it to every one yet, so if you are not part of the Soak, that is why your phone says its up to date.
You can grab the OTA zip being sent as SOAK and manually flash it. (see HERE and HERE) BUT know that if you have a locked bootlaoder, you can't root it.

The China middleman works for the time I used it, but it's so much easier and convenient to just buy a developer edition now that they've gone on sale.

Yes its already posted here in a flashable zip. Keep in mind HDR won't work because it only works on non GPE devices. If you want a link to the OP let me know I'll post it.
