After I rooted my gear watch it wouldn't ring for an incoming call anymore although it would call out just fine.
I hard reset it & that fixed the call problem, but then I started wondering if the reset would affect the rooting procedure?? I am guessing it will still be rooted, but since there is no easy way to test root I'm not really sure...,..

You can use MobileMe software and load root checker app to the gear and test to see if you still have root.

So yesterday I got a notification for a new system update, which I did, and all day today I've had issues with my speaker. The phone is stock, never rooted. Basically, when someone calls me I can't hear anything, turning on the speakerphone doesn't help either, but sometimes when I call it works. On headphones it's fine. It also takes a while to actually get a connection with the other person. Could this be because of the update? I can't think of anything else, it's never happened before.

Yes, this might be related to the update. You can do 2 things. Either:
1. Root your phone and downgrade to before the update
-or-
2. Go to a service center and ask them to fix, under warranty
Just note that if u decide to root you phone, your warranty might be gone.

Think I'll do the latter, don't wanna root until the warranty expires tbh, only had it for a few months.
Thanks for answering.
I picked up the N4 from T-mobile last Saturday and they gave me a temporary number because we were having trouble getting the account number from my last carrier. When we got it the the number was ported. Calls and texts work fine, sometimes group chats acts up a little. But the problem is, in settings>about phone>status my number shows up as the temporary one and not my current, old, ported number. It is annoying because on some apps use that temp number, group chat acts weird with it and doesn't show my actual number, plus I want to root and I don't any possible mishaps. Does anyone know how to change this or update it? I asked this question on another thread but it was from 2010 and no one has replied.
Mine is the same, T-Mobile tech support says it sometimes happens when you switch Sims, but hasn't affected me any. Calls, texts and data all fine. Made 36 hours of calls since I got it, and my kiddo and I text every day.
Thank you for the quick reply.

Have you rooted? I'm pretty cautious about rooting right now because the last time I did was about 2 years ago on the GS3. Being that we all spent so much money on the N4 I don't want anything to brick it. The only reason I have not rooted yet is because of this. Thank you
Rooted no issues.

Lol thank you sir, I'm more than likely going to root it tonight or tomorrow. I should be able to just go ahead and root fine, that little update I had right after booting up for the first time shouldn't affect either right? I'm guessing no since everyone must have had that update haha.

I don't have another phone to stick it in but I did do a factory reset which didn't work. I'll probably just go ahead and root.
I'm not a noob by any means. I've done all the normal troubleshooting. I've looked for other similar topics and none exist for this phone. I've tried everything that I can think. Having said that, please excuse me if i missed anything.
Basically, my issue is that I can't accept 95% of my incoming calls. I try to.... And the call hangs up when I press answer. I have the regular stock google dialer. I'm stock but rooted and unencrypted. I realize this may have to do with LTE still being on and not H+ but it's really annoying. It does switch to H+ but still hangs up.
I tried a few custom ROMs and the issue still exists. I've ensured that notifications are checked in the dialer app.
Someone please help me. Maybe I'm missing something simple. It's really annoying not being able to accept a call and having to call people back for every call received.
Please and thanks
And now I've officially tried EVERY ROM for this phone and still.... Can't answer incoming calls. Ugh. Someone please help
Have you tried updating your radio? Have you tried setting your phone in non-LTE so at most it only utilizes H+/H/3G?
Have you cleared cache and tried it in safe mode?
@zephiK thank you for the ideas. Flashed the new radio from your thread... Issue still persists. I haven't gone to just 3g yet because I use my phone a lot for work (law enforcement) and need the LTE speed when identifying people
Edit: tried using 3g and 2g anyways.... Still hangs up whenever I answer incoming calls. Ugh

I have cleared both cache and dalvik cache. I can't get safe mode to work..... I'm using liquid smooth at the moment and when holding power off it doesn't show the option for safe mode
Well I figured out holding reboot gives the safe boot option. My phone bootlooped. I'm going to have to totally undo everything on my phone. Lock and unroot my phone. Then I'll start over using only stock without unlocking or rooting first then continue this trouble shoot.
If anyone can think of anything else please let me know thank you and merry Christmas
I had the same issue with mine. I thought I was going crazy. Hope you get it worked out. I sent mine back to Motorola yesterday for a refund.
Sent from my iPhone 6 Plus using Tapatalk
Update : Solved....
I wiped everything and started over. I flashed stock and went into safe mode. Calls worked. So it was easy to figure out... It was a downloaded app. A call blocker that was blocking everything instead of just the calls it was supposed to.
Thank you to those who offered opinions, suggestions, and comments
I had the same issue with the N5 on att. Was rooted and used a tool that opened a Sprint "only" service menu. Played with a setting and boom, i had voice. Data worked no problem throughout this ordeal.
Have the same problem with a Nexus 6, suddenly the phone did not show up any incoming call screen/window or way to slide out to answer an incoming call. It rings but there is not way to answer the call, even trying to go to the task bar and see if there is a window up there to answer it, no notification or window to press and answer.
This phone is not rooted nor have an application to block calls. it is with lollipop 5.01.
Any ways to solve this horrible bug? This bug is driving me nuts.
Hey guys apparently there is no way to root a 5.1.1 device, but is there a way to downgrade the software to a version I can root? I desperately need to disable the recent tab button as all my phone does is flip between all my apps at random. The only thing I can use it for is to make a call and even that is difficult when the screen keeps flashing between different apps. I have done factory reset, I have un-installed every app I installed and AT&T and Samsung won't help me because my water mark is tripped do to taking the phone in the bathroom with me when I shower cause I have kids...Didn't know about that f-ing scam till I read about it, so now I don't have a phone that works. My only saving grace is I read you can disable the recent tab button if you root the device. Please help!! Oh sadly my phone is only 5 or 6 months old
This problem started on her unrooted Amazon Prime version. What I did was I went ahead and unlocked the bootloader and installed the 7.4.2 OTA without ads as well as rooting it. That actually worked for a few days, but whenever she gets a phone call, the ringing started to be mute once again. She has claimed that she's tried restarting it, but to no avail did this work. How do I fix this infuriating software bug?

Did you try changing changing the ringtone. Blu usually is fussy when it come to ringtones,. Just reset phone and stick to default ringtone for while to see if it helps
At the time we had tried this, it did not resolve the issue at all.
