Random reboot issue - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A few days After upgrading to the latest .2.257, i am experiencing random reboot issue, i have tried reflashing the firmware, but without data wipe. Still have that rebooting issue. I have root the phone in the previous firmware using the chinese vroot method. Do i have to wipe data too?

SuperSu or Apps with root Access freeze sometimes

The App SuperSu or Apps with root Access freezes sometimes, not allways, you can start these App´s 5 to 10 times without Problems and next start the app freeze at that point normaly notification for root acces is shown. The only way is to kill the app and start again, mostly the app starts then, sometimes it freezes 2 or 3 times in a row.
I have re-rooted about 5 times or more, i have updated SuperSu and su Binary, i changed to superuser (uninstalled SuperSu before), reflashed the firmware (Euro Open V10h) and wiped it before and after reflashing. Nothing helps...
Even after reflashing and wiping, the first boot after rooting, the app freezes, nothing further installed (i think)...
Does anyone have the same problem or any idea! Thanks in advance...

It would be very nice to know where are you from... your phone official latest firmware is V10H?
If it is, downgrade to V10A, factory reset, upgrade using "web upgrade", root (using IS11LG_SystemBackupTest.signed, if possible) and factory reset. Update SuperSU binary, install SuperSU Pro, upgrade SuperSU in GooglePlay.
Should be enought, its the most radical that I know.
Good luck :fingers-crossed:
I´m from Germany. The Firmware is the latest offical V10h (Euro Open / DBT, i´ve done a file compare, it´s the same).
I´ve done some test´s a few days ago, one of them (install of busybox 1.20.2) let the phone stuck on boot. I tried many things, wiped and flashed KDZ new. After that i want to use my CWM (Nandroid) Backup, so I installed the recovery again (but version 1.1 from my PC, not the actual version 1.2) and i cant restore because of issue "cannot mount system" (issue of version 1.1). So i tried again with adb and finally i did a mistake and mount system manually. The restore first format "/system" but cannot mount it afterwards. So the restore killed my system, there was no Firmware on Phone at all.
I found the software upgrade mode and reflashed the actual Firmware V10h.
So I think there cant be anything "old" on the phone because the wipe killed /data and /cache and the failure with recovery killed /system. The reflash installed the brand new V10h and after rooting and install of recovery (this time version 1.2) I have had the problem with SuperSu / Apps with root already again...
I could try the reflash to V10a and then Webupgrade, but I dont think it will help, cause as I wrote, there were no more old things on phone when I installed the official V10h, so it should be the same...
Thanks for your help!

I still advice you to downgrade, FACTORY RESET, web upgrade to latest (V10H), root and factory reset.
Factory reset will re-install factory settings based on the files that you have (some kind of "rescue system files") if they're messed, version mixed or corrupted somehow, the problem will remain.
Downgrade will install the oldest, basic and fisrt files files known (apart of dev files V09x). Factory reset will delete all newer files.
Upgrade will reinstall the new files overwritting the old ones from V10A.
The system files should be clean and without corrupted or version mixed files after this procedure.
Good luck on that

Ok, I have done all this, a lot of work (save internal SD-Card, save Nandroid Backup, installed V10a, reset, update to 10b, reset, update to 10d, reset, update to 10f, reset, update to 10h, reset, root, reset), and what should I say, same as before!!!
After the steps to V10h I only installed 3 Apps for root access (for testing): Adfree Android, Dateimanager (Filemanager), Recovery 1.2. I started these Apps a few times, also the superSU-App and after 8-10 Tries, superSu was frozen!!! (same as before update)
No more idea, but all the work was quite useless...
As I thought, with factory reset and flashing new firmware, there are no "old" files (where should they be?) cause system, data and sdcard are written new, so the process of upgrading from V10a couldnt bring the effort...

This sounds like you upgraded with kdz flasher. Don't do that. Use the official LG Software Update tool. It will download a v10h directly and flash it, together with a factory reset and a reset of those "emergency files". Do another factory reset afterwards just to be sure.

In which mode the phone has to be connected to use that tool? In "Software Upgrade Mode or in Recovery mode or normally booted? With USB Debugging on?
Do I have to choose "emercency update"? How could I say, that I want to reflash the same Firmware (actually V10h is installed)? Please give some advice... Thanks in advance...

What I said was this:
"I still advice you to downgrade, FACTORY RESET, web upgrade to latest (V10H), root and factory reset."
Web upgrade is the same than LG Update Tool... It will install the original official firmware for your phone, once you're German, you'll have the V10H.
I never had problems with supersu since I use it...

If you have V10H, the program (LG Update Tool) will tell you that you already have the latest one...
Or you downgrade or follow the video from minute 00:51:00
OK, I try again. I used KDZ-Updater for reflash to V10a, I think there would be no other way. Then I used the OTA-Updates to get the Version 10b, 10d, 10f and 10h. That´s what I understood as "Webupgrade".
Now I have connected my phone in S/W Upgrade mode and use the LGMobile Update Tool. There is an option "Recovery phone" and now it is Downloading the Firmware (extremly slow, will last 2 hours or more), next should be Update.
Do u think this way its necessary to downgrade to V10a again, before the use of this tool or would it install all necessary?

"Web Upgrade" refers to the use of LG Update tool. It's because there is a button named "Web Upgrade" in the b2c program which launches the "normal" LG Update tool. I hope it's clear this way. FOTA (=Firmware over-the-air) is NOT Web upgrade.
I don't know if the emergency mode does the same as the web upgrade, but I suppose it does. So wait those three hours. LG servers are extremely slow on that, i had the same experience when upgrading my phone with Web Upgrade. Just leave it on and go away, and when you come back in a few hours it should work again.
Thanks! I think the update is the same. I need the recovery phone option, cause the installed Firmware V10h is the latest and so there is no option Web-Upgrade activ. With this mode, the normal PHONE UPDATE Screen from the update tool comes up and the 4 Steps Analysis, Download, Update and Complete are shown...
The Download is 465,75 MB and seems to be the normal size for V10h.
But I dont think, there will be a great difference after that update for my problem with superSu. I "bricked" my phone a few days ago, I formatted SDCard, system, cache and data, I had to install the firmware via S/W Upgrade mode, the only mode the phone was booting, all other ways was dead, so I think I came from the absolut beginning. After that flash of firmware and first rooting again, the problem still persist (I had this problem from the first day I got the phone). Therefore I dont think, a 3rd or 4th install will change a lot, but I try...
All of you, who think the tool does something special, I am not sure. There is a Download-Directory, u will find KDZ-File V10H_00.kdz, exactly the same (did a file compare) that u can download on our servers for update via KDZ Update. So I think, also the simple write to the phone will be the same procedure. So I dont think its a great difference to use KDZ-Updater or this tool, both flash exactly the same firmware...
Give response of effort later...
Edit (after Test):
Same as ever! Filemanager freezes every 3-4 times started, supersu hangs sometimes, all as before...
This time I flashed V10a via KDZ-updater, reset, used the LGMobileUpdate Tool for upgrade to V10h, reset, root, reset. Installed supersu update, updated binary, upgraded to superSu pro. I installed some Apps with root access and the effect is as ever, sometimes ok sometimes the App or superSu hangs. Must be a problem with my phone, persists since the first day over all Firmware and Updates...
Thanks all for help!

Hi, unfortunately NO! I´ve done all the stuff, reflash about 5 times or more, factory reset and wipe all (dalvik, cache), but the problem occurs already after reflash and reboot blank stock rom. After rooting the "naked" stock rom, the problem already exists. So it has nothing to do with installed apps or something else...
I also tried using superuser instead supersu. I tried to install both supersu and superuser via CWM-Zip (not together, one after the other, and I´m sure that I´ve correctly uninstalled the previous one) to be sure of correct Superuser-Bin and Superuser/SuperSu-Versions, but nothing changes. Even with superuser, same behavior...
May be a good news is, i´ve also tried a costum rom (CustoNexus) and couldnt see the problem with that rom. So may be with the next update to jelly bean our problem is solved too...
Let´s wait and hope...

Ok, thanks a lot for your quick answer... so, lets hope that the next version will solve the issue...
I never did these steps:
Updated superSU
Updated binaries
Upgraded to pro
Works like a charm
Sent from my LG-P880 using xda app-developers app

Problem will occur sometime later again.
Unfortunately I have the same Problem with SuperSu Pro, it works after a Reboot but some Time later it freezes, but the Apps with root permissions continue to run normally.
Good News, the problem is gone after upgrading to JB 4.1.2 V20a. No more freezes with Superuser or Apps which needs Root.
This was my hope and its OK now!!!
Btw I use Superuser (not SuperSU) but I had the problem on ICS exactly the same way with Superuser and SuperSU. So I think it should be OK now even with both of them...

Xposed bootloop

I'm running LP. After flashing the zip, it boots (after doing the "Android is upgrading" thing), but then if you shut it down/reboot it bootloops. If I wipe cache through recovery, it boots fine again (after doing the "upgrading" thing once again) and works fine till the next shutdown/reboot.
It doesnt work yet, there is no fix either..
Xposed for lollipop is still an alpha version and should not really be used
Sent from my D5803 using XDA Premium HD app
it does work for some people.

Bump
If it is any comfort, I have same issue - and yeah, read in other threads some people it is working perfectly.
Out of desperation I even tried factory-reset but still ended up needing to wipe cache/ Dalvik cache like you.
Hopefully, the Dev will soon release a working-for-all version.
For anyone who has the same issue (and is running on the stock ROM): A factory reset through TWRP did not fix the problem for me. I had to reflash the ROM.

you can just manually uninstall xposed, no need to wipe or reflash anything
Installing XPosed worked fine, the problem was the module installer. Even after removing the installer, the device still was looped. Another explanation could be that I was too dump to remove the installer. For anyone else having the problem, you may post how to remove the installer after being in a boot loop.
I managed to get Xposed to work - got rid of the infernal boot loop issue:
Came from rooted KK 5.77
Flashed pre-rooted Lollipop with R/W enabled, based on CE1
Ran 'Byeselinux' for recovery
Flashed 'Xposed.zip'
Installed 'Xposed alpha2'
Above resulting in the boot loop.
Flashed the 3 files directly on top of my setup, wipe cache/ Dalvik cache & reboot as suggested in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/development/lp-mini-deodex-t3076490
Tested by d/l-ing app from Playstore, installed Amplify from Xposed (had already Lolistat, Xperia/AOSP NavBar & Fix Lollipop Memory Leak running/installed), 5 reboots and all is ok.

Phone reboots randomly - can't flash anything through ODIN or recovery

So I was running a custom rom for months now for my N910T without issue but yesterday the phone suddenly rebooted by itself while I was using it and would keep rebooting roughly every 3min.
I backed up everything in TWRP and wiped everything to reboot into a clean rom like factory reset but that didn't work as everything was still there and nothing was wiped. So I tried to flash a new rom but it failed and gave an error E: cannot execute upgrade binary.
I'm on TWRP 2.8.1.1 so I can't flash a TWRP update (have to be on 2.8.4 or above) and thought my recovery was too old. I then plugged phone in download mode and used ODIN to flash a new TWRP. It would write fail every time, no matter what I changed. I tried to install different versions of recovery and used different versions of ODIN with no success.
I also changed different cables and ports. I then tried to flash a stock rom through ODIN but it also says write fail. Basically I tried everything and searched on XDA and google and tried every method I came across. Anyone have this issue or suggestions?
tldr: Phone N910T reboots from home screen, write fail flash from ODIN and fail flash from TWRP recovery. Can't use phone because it would boot to home screen for a few min then just reboot again. Help!

Then something I'm your phones been corrupted probably, your going to have to rma for a new device
has anybody come up with a solution to this problem im having serious boot and loading issues. i have flashed many roms and have never had a problem. i odin flashed the cog2 firmware then twrp flashed the tekxodus rom. something happened changing permissions with the built in setting with the rom and twrp was lost and i cant get back to a usable phone. odin flashed everything i can find for my phone and its not working everything either falis or goes to loop.
You probably corrupted your partition doing something wrong

After installing stock firmware, problem still persists...

The problem I'm having originally started when I attempted to install a marshmallow global port rom on my g4. For some reason even after doing a clean install the rom was buggy, screen would become unresponsive, and apps would consistently crash. I attempted every possible option from recovery. Wipe, install several different roms, restored nandroid backup (unresponsive screen issues still persisted). Finally, I decided to restore stock firmware with a complete wipe of the phone via kdz. However somehow the system instability persists. An error will pop up saying "Process system isn't responding. Do you want to close it?" So now I have no custom recovery and have a hard time even getting to the settings menu to enable usb debugging. I'm stumped and what I should do....

Can you get to Download mode? If so you can flash this rooted, stockk 81110N img and once it is in, you can use Flashify to flash twrp.

I managed to reinstall twrp and root. However, installing different roms whether it be stock or otherwise does not resolve the issue. I'm absolutely boggled how this issue can persist across flashes. I'm hesitant to call it a hardware problem because the phone is mint and there was no physical damage/shock done to the phone right prior to the issues occuring.

Recover without wipe

I have tried to flash current Magisk (I know it is not working) with odin and phone went into bootloop. So I flashed original boot.img back, but it didn't stopped with bootloop, only factory reset solved problem. Can I recover from such problem without wipe?
