Help, my Note is stuck on the boot logo after trying to install a custom rom.
I have tried several roms now and non of them pass the boot screen. Getting a little scared now.
Here are the steps I have taken. Please tell me if I'm doing something wrong.
Stock rom
Root and install clockwork mod
nandroid backup
flash abyss kernal
wipe data
wipe cache
install custom rom
stuck on boot logo
I have just tried restoring the nandroid backup and the same thing happens... stuck on boot logo
Have I bricked the phone?
I can still access clockwork if that's any help.
I'm trying a restore via pc odin now.
Not got much hope though, seems to be stuck. The bar doesn't move anymore :'(
Hope an expert will assist.
What stock rom are you on, is it ics? If so nandroid backups and restores are dangerous on stock kernel.
Try flashing stock gb with pc Odin and go from there. If it fails, post at what point ie factory.fs.

Did you use CWM.zip to root your phone and flash Abyss?
Did you do wipe while still on Temp CWM?
If the answer is yes to both, you are Superbricked

I might have flashed Abyss while on temp. Can't really remember.
What do I do now?
Anything else I can try?
Get Amazon to replace it?
Edit: I can't seem to get into clockwork recovery anymore. It just says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again"
But I can get into the 'downloading' mode.
Help.
Wipes using Temp CWM.zip will result in brick
''Odin just stops at a certain point; yes it's at factory.fs''
that means you have bricked your phone.
So what can I do now?
Return to Samsung/Amazon?
Will they know that it was my fault?
Warranty
Go to recovery mode and check whether its showing binary counter 1 or above, ''Staus'' Official or Custom
If binary count is 0 and status is official you will get warranty
tell service center people that while updating new update via ota , your phone bricked
deleted
Flash GB
just pull out the battery. wait for 10 secs.. reinsert. go back to download mode..
use odin 1.85 and just select the tar.md5 fine in pda section..
Flash Gingerbread rom.

I will try that in the next 20 mins once the stock rom downloads.
To stop this happening again, could someone please, please, please post some noob friendly instructions on how I should flash a custom rom from stock.
I know someone might say 'just google it' or 'there are plenty of guides out there', but I was sure I had the steps nailed down otherwise I wouldn't have tried it.
It would be very helpful.
Especially to see exactly where I went wrong.
Anyway, thanks for all the info.

Yeah, I'm getting the stock GB (UK) rom from there.
Taking a while as a free user.
Thanks.
My Way of root + cwm (i have checked this in ICS only )
1. flashing safe kernels like hydracore 5.4 or Philz kernel 2.7 using PC odin
2. reboot
3. now you have root + CMW
4. open super su / superuse app
5. check for root access using Root Checker
6. Flash Supersu.zip in CMW if experience any root issues
7. now will be having stock ics with safe kernel and cwm.

Then what do I do?
Sorry, want to be as clear as possible.
Flashing Any Custom Roms
1. Flash Any Safe Kernel and reboot to recovery
2. do all 3 wipes (wipe data/factory, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache)
3. Flash custom rom.zip
4. reboot
5. enjoy new custom rom
@ anoopva
Thank you for all your valuable info.
I may put it to use if I have the courage to risk a replacement phone.
Will update thread shortly on how flashing to GB goes.
I won't hold my breath.
You won't be able to flash a ROM anymore. Odin will get stuck. DO NOT attempt to flash a custom kernel through PC Odin. It will RAISE your flash counter and then it will be obvious that you have messed with your phone, so warranty will be voided! There is another way to get recovery, just wait.....

Yes, just found that it got stuck.
Got further than with the stock ICS rom.
So do I have any options other than to return the phone?
Hey guys,
I have rooted the GNote N7000 using CWM but haven't flashed any custom room. Still on official 4.0.4 rom. (Rooted as I wanted to put a ported Google Now app on it).
Now I want to do a factory reset. Is it safe to do so? Do I need to unroot it first?
Second, If i take it to samsung for repair under warranty, can i take the phone back in its current rooted (with official rom) status? Or do i have to unroot it first?
Many thanks,
B.
Root breaks your warranty. You have to unroot the note.
Btw you should move (or ask to some moderator) this topic in q/a section, or in general.
Dev section is only for custom roms, kernels and mods

You say you are rooted.. What kernel are you on ? if its the stock ICS kernel then its not safe at all to do a factory reset. First flash a safe kernel and then do a factory reset and then unroot by flashing the stock rom again to remove all traces of rooting for warranty
also as we dont know what method you used to root : go into download mode and check the binary counter if its 0 for warranty

Hi - when I purchased the Note (N7000) it's on stock 2.3 rom, then I updated it to ICS 4.0.4 via Kies (hence stock rom) and then rooted by going into CWM mode and flashed CWM-SuperSU-v0.87.zip.
All I did was rooting the phone using CWM, and I've never used Odin and flashed any custom ROM. I suppose I am on official Kernel? In the phone setting > about phone: it says baseband version: N7000XXLRB, Kernel: 3.0.15-N7000ZSLPM-CL901577
1. How do I flash a safe kernel if that is required?
2. How do I go to download mode to check the binary counter?
3. Do I have to flash stock rom to unroot? (I am not on any custom rom). If not, how do I unroot?
Thanks guys for your help! I got nexus 4 and am trying to reset this phone to then give my mom for xmas! Your urgent help is much appreciated!:laugh::laugh::laugh:
1. To flash a safe kernel you can either install using mobile odin or the Philz kernel zip file from stock recovery. This will be needed if you want to reset your phone as doing wipe of stock ics kernel is unsafe.
2. Vol down + power + home then Vol up to continue
3.to un root you can flash the whole Rom again using pc odin.

Thanks nokiamodeln91. So what i need to do now, is to flash a safe kernel, then reset the phone (by going to settings > backup and reset > factory data reset), then flash the whole stock rom to the phone to bring it back to unroot, correct?
2 more questions:
1. Where can I find this safe kernel to flash? Is it an official kernel? If it's not official, would that be an issue when the handset is set for warranty later down the road with an unofficial kernel?
2. Will flashing the stock rom back raise any flash counter? I will just use the latest stock rom from sammobile?
Thanks!
Once you flash a safe kernel boot into into recovery and do a wipe data factory reset.
Safe kernel ex. Philz, hydracore.. Look in the android original Dev section. You will find them
There are custom safe kernel and cannot be there on phone for warranty.
For warranty, you will need to flash the stock Rom using odin and will remove all the root add stock kernel back.
Will not raise counter.

Just wondering, if I have to flash the stock rom which will overwrite everything on the phone including the kernel anyway, could I not just skip the first step: (flashing a safe (unofficial) kernel to factory reset the phone),
and just do the flashing stock rom using odin which will just bring everything back to stock (including wiping everything out)?
No. Installing new Rom will not wipe everything unless you install a wipe Rom. And doing a faculty reset is not safe on stock ics kernels.

I am actually not very good at this and am worried i may brick the device. Can I just use the superuser app's 'fully unroot' option to unroot the Note, then take it back to samsung service centre for them to fully wipe my device and also load the latest rom for me? (They confirm that can do it for free for my note which is still under warranty)
Only concern for me is that, after i use 'fully unroot' feature in superuser, will samsung still be able to tell this rom has been modified and refuse to service it? I can confirm that on my device current flash counter is 0 (no), and it is showing as official samsung rom.
Uninstall apps that need root access and delete their folders before unrooting through superuser app.

Easiest way to do it is to flash Philz kernel in stock recovery. Temp CWM.zip file was discovered to be dangerous.

He wants to unroot, not root.
@OP why don't you simply flash stock JB firmware via PC Odin ?
If you want OTA update top jb, you'll have to use stock ICS which isn't safe (the kernel, I mean).
Also, change the thread title. It gives the impression that you're a zombie.

Hi,
I am currently on rooted 2.3.6 Gingerbread (I9070) and will upgrade to the JellyMOD (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2170925).
I've been advised to do a Nandroid Backup of my system via the recovery menu (Volume up+Home+Power button) before I upgrade.
I did this but the option for Backup doesn't appear.
After a quick research I installed Rom Manager via google play. Tried to install ClockworkMod Recovery via Rom Manager but it says my I9070 is not supported.
I'm a noob here and hope someone can help in getting the Backup section to show up in recovery mode.
Thanks.
Note: In about phone it shows:
Baseband version: I9070XXLD1
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9070XXLD1-CL1067329 [email protected] #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XXLD1

1. You instaled Jelly Bean ROM on Gingerbread. If you want it you need to flash JB with Odin, you have guide here - search for it.
2. We only can use custom recovery that is instaled with kernel, because those two share same partition. So no other way to install it, like on some other phones.
3. You probably got bootloop after installing JellyMOD on GB, so I suggest you to flash GB again. Or JB if you want it.
4. After geting back to GB, you can go get that recovery back and restore your prevoius ROM.

Since my phone is already rooted is it ok just to install the kernel?
After a search I found this [GT-I9070][Kernel][GINGERBREAD] Stock Kernel + TWRP Recovery for Galaxy S Advance (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1873119&highlight=kernel+gingerbread).
Would it be ok to just install this via Odin?
Not with odin but yes, that is what you need. Get universal kernel flasher and use that tool to flash kernels. Odin way will increase binary counter.
