Signal strength - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an at&t note 3 and an getting 71dbm hspa while a gs is sitting next to it getting 57dbm hspda9 what's the difference between the 2 and is there a reason to be concerned about the n3? Don't know much about signal so thought I'd ask before my 14 days were up
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk

Wish I could get close to even 90. At my house, it ranges from 95 on up. Currently at 110.
Do you lose calls, drop data connections or suffer from extremely slow speeds? If no, I wouldn't worry about it. I have yet to lose a call or have any issues at a much weaker signal. yMMV.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Iv only lost to calls but they were in the same place going down road but other than that it's been working pretty well

Do you have LTE in your area?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

No not yet , it'll pick up when n3, and has first boot but it didn't stay long on either device.

2G only mode

Guys/Girls,
For some strange reason I don't have an option for GSM (2G mode) only, I'm on three, anyone else have this same issue?
The problem I have is in my house my signal isn't great, I flick between 3G to browse the internet (as have no WiFi atm until Sky install it), but most of the time my phone will switch to 2G (roaming) which I have almost full signal when this happens. Though when I need to switch from 2G or 3G our visa versa the only way I can do it is search for network's then choose 3G or 2G on three, is there an alternative method?
I've downloaded tasker so I can set up my phone to switch to 2G and stay in that mode when I get home, when I get WiFi, though I'm trying to get my head around it atm. Can tasker solve my problem with a widget etc?
Thanks in advance!

Three is a 3g only network
2g used to be available as a fallback when there was no 3 network but this ended a year or 2 ago

That makes perfect sense now, not sure why I didn't think of that. Though my phone still falls back to a 2G network it just means I don't get a choice if it does it or not.

You can try to change it by entering *#*#4636#*#* in dial pad under phone information.

Awesome! That worked a treat! Now do you know if I can set tasker to run a task like that?
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk 2
Sorry no idea about tasker.
Sent from my C6602 using xda premium
For tasker you need to be rooted. You need to resign the rom then you can install toggle 2g by themasterbarron which gives a plug in to work with tasker

You are lucky.. Where am the fall back was totally removed so there was no 2g service of any type as there is reasonable 3g coverage. But the signal never carried into my house
3 will remove the ability country wide at some point because the 2g service is provided by another carrier by roaming agreements which obviously costs 3

Ah I thought it was root only, will look into that thanks.
Yeah well if they remove 2G from my area I will have a mega problem as signal as poor very poor! I switched from Orange recently because of poor signal in my house, just got to hope that they increase the 3G coverage first!

Is your phone from Three? If yes, if you flash one of the unbranded images with flashtool (no risk, no data loss) you'll gain many more settings.

Yes it is... When you say no risk does that mean if something goes wrong it and I have to send it to three for repair they won't know? Sorry I've only had HTCs and Samsungs.

Make an ftf backup of your firmware(there is how to in dev section),and you can flash it back when needed.

"Free" devices interestingly have more options, see screenshot attached.
Make sure to report back your findings in case you unbrand your device.
Your screenshot displays what I was expecting to see on mine...but once I understood that three restrict certain settings in their firmware it made sense.
I will certainly upload a screenshot once I get around to following those instructions

No More Internet while Talking Anymore on 4.3

Before with 4.1 I could of used the internet while chatting on the phone with someone, but since the 4.3 update, not anymore. Only WiFi. Anyone else notice it as well? Haven't seen no notice or mention it.

It's always been that way. Unless you're on lte before you shouldn't have been able to do both at the same time.

I did notice they removed the feature. The evo lte could do phone calls and 3g simultaneously, it's a shame they got rid of it

This is impossible for cdma 3g, which Sprint uses. It's not a removed feature. There was a work around - the phone had 2 antennas for 3g so this could work.

The EVO 4G LTE could do it on cdma 3g because it had separate antenna paths for 1x (i.e. voice) and 3g data. The HTC One doesn't and can only do voice and on 4g or WiFi.

That is one of the things I liked about the HTC LTE because I could have the GPS up pulling data while on the Bluetooth headset in my truck at the same time.
LTE and voice work fine still. 3g, will never on this phone

You could be getting throttled by AT&T
Sent from my LG-D950 using Tapatalk
Could also just be outages in your area, new towers, etcetera will all effect those speed tests, stuff like software updates doesn't usually lower speeds, though i have heard a lot of complaints after updating (on other phones) about losing connection/reception
Sent from my LG-D950 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I will check out my speed in the morning when my billing cycle starts over. As of right now on LTE i get 1mbps
Sent from my LG-D950 using Tapatalk
Well when it is working good I get 10.4mbps but it's rare, mostly getting 1mbps or less and get stuck in regular 4g a lot which g does really slow
