I was hoping to make a single thread with any issues running the 4.4 apps that have been released. I know there has been an issue with hangouts when sending mms. Any known issues with the gallery app, camera app, maps, or the new Gmail app?

I have installed several of the 2.2 roms from designgears and have had issues with email since beta 5.5. I had other issues in beta 5.5, but email was flawless. For some reason emails send and receive email fine, but if you reply to a message the text in the body is blank. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

this has been a known bug in the 2.2 leaked rom.....period...have a look around the forums, its well documented.
i believe in 5.5, designgears tested out using the AOSP email app instead of the TW email app. the AOSP email app tends to work like it is supposed to. too many complaints led him to bring back the TW email app for the roms that followed.
i would suggest having a look at his COGDEV AOSP rom....i am running the BETA4, and i love it. i dont want to give up my AOSP. so far, everything works like its supposed to.
I will suggest you to give k9mail from market a try instead of stock email client.

Thanks PirateGhost. Had I done any research proir to posting, I would have been able to fix this a week ago. Just to update, I installed the AOSP Email.apk by backing up the current one, then overwriting it. Cleared my launcher cache as the app disapeared from the launcher dock, then finally restored my home icons with Titanium. AOSP Email app is awesome...way better than the TW app.
Thanks again
So a couple of days ago I sideloaded the 4.4 hangouts app and selected SMS. For some reason after I did this my voicemail reverted to something called sprint SMS voicemail. I get a text from sprint saying I have a new voicemail and I provides a number to call or an HTML link. The number is always a busy signal and the link opens chrome and what looks like a flash player but nothing plays. I try to reenable the visual voicemail app, but cant select it in the app manager. Thus I no longer have voicemail. I suppose I might have to wait for kit Kat, but does anyone have any ideas about how to fix this problem in the meantime?

Same here, only difference I have the real Hangouts, I realized it yesterday (I don't get many VMs), I wonder if it has anything to do with HG...
UPDATE: Apparently it's a major Sprint issue, I just Googled it, but I couldn't find a fix... G'luck and lemme know if you found anything

My own update:
Based off my research, it appears that the problem is that the hangouts app grabs the voicemail sms and intercepts it before the voicemail app can retrieve it. Thus as it stands now, hangouts sms is incompatible with sprint v vm. Hopefully the sprint kit kat update will fix this problem.
As of now the only way to get v vm is to disable sms in hangouts and to renable the v vm app. I've done this, and my voicemail is working normally now.

Great, thanx... Sucks, but getting my VMs is more important to me than SMS in Hangouts app

This might be a dumb question but I can't get my voicemail to work after disabling SMS in hangouts. What exactly did you do to re-enable the VM app? Also, I have the Sprint HTC One but I haven't seen this talked about anywhere else.
thanks.
Two things: reload the latest .apk (search for it on xda). Once it is loaded reenable the app in settings. Open the app and rerecord your greeting.

I just randomly decided to try Hangouts again, and it seems to be working fine. Is anybody else still having any issues?
I'm using the latest OTA with the Google Experience Launcher. Never used another SMS app save for the default Sense "message" app that comes stock.
Recently switched to Hangouts and have it set as the default SMS app. Problem is I get no visual or audio feedback when a new text is delivered. I've searched for a fix and it appears I'm not the only one with this issue. Anyone have this problem and know of a fix?
Thanks.

Yes, I am also having this issue. I don't use it as SMS, but it is annoying
Ever since I update my DE to KK, I've noticed that Facebook has become the default share option in a number of apps including Chrome and Engadget.
I have reset the defaults on all apps to no avail. I've uninstalled all FB updates to see if an update was causing the issue, again to no avail. The only thing that corrects the problem is disabling FB altogether.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
I'm running stock 4.4, non-rooted.
Stop using Facebook

Turns out this is a known issue with KitKat and not phone specific.

What do you guys prefer in regards to texting?
I find hangouts a bit choppy but seems like it has more features.

I have 2 gmail accounts work and personal and it is a pain in the butt looking for different contacts in hangouts because you can only use one account at a time they dont combine the contacts of the 2 accounts
It seems like Hangouts does not work with the Galaxy Gear (watches), huh?
my choice messenger will always be WhatsApp (messaging, voice/video clips, voice calling) for its simplicity, yet is pretty feature-packed. i hate what Talk has become (since it became Hangouts Messenger). but for voice or video calling, i ultimately prefer WeChat. the quality is really good and it holds on to a connection pretty well (doesn't disconnect so easily) when in poor signal conditions.

I like the way Google Messenger and Hangouts work with group messages but for right now I can't get with the lag that both app have so im sticking with the stock messaging app for the moment. if they update them to make the more fluent I will jump on hangouts. Google Messenger also have too many colors.
I went back to the stock messaging app, Google hangouts doesn't have quick reply, and it lags.

I noticed the new 4.0 version of Hangouts lags backing out of app and opening some MMS. Clearning cache/data and reverting to previous stock version fixes the lag.
I'm currently using Google messenger. It does lag a bit.

Stock messages works just fine for me
Textra
Yeah Google hangouts is really laggy I went back to messages. I'd type several letters before they'd register on screen

I only had this problem with the stock keyboard. No lag problems for me on hangouts + Swype.

UPDATE : This man was right. Totally made a difference
I have this with Hangouts 4 and Swiftkey. Constant lag. But the Sammy messenger app is butt ugly.
I'm using hangouts due to the Google voice ans hangout integration. It is a bit laggy with swiftkey
I just started using textra, I like it so much more. Just had to disable it from turning the screen on.

Hangouts notifications were really inconsistent for me on the Note 3, so I'm not even going to bother testing with the N5. I have my Google Voice integrated into Hangouts, and I use it occasionally for work chatter, but nothing that requires any sort of reliability.
I only stick with stock apps if they off what I want, and that's mainly a Quick Reply feature. I was using Google Messenger as my SMS app because my last phone (One M8) did not have that built in. Since the Note 5 does have it, I found no need to use Google Messenger anymore. And I like the stock app cause I can quick reply while in landscape aswell. Google Messenger would only allow you to quick reply in portrait.

Check out an app called Gear Notifications. It will allow you to reply to hangouts messages. The device also has a thread on the gear s forum on xda.

If you are using the stock keyboard because you like google's speech-to-text, check out the swype xposed plugin 'SwypeTweaks.' Replaces the dragon voice with google's. I get lots of lag in several apps with the Samsung keyboard on my Note 5...Swype all the way for me.
