Hey guys came across this tools quite some time ago, iv been meaning to share a write up about it.. so here it is !
The tool is called APK Downloader, its a chrome plugin that allows you to download directly from the playstore onto your PC. Which allows you to sideload apps like a boss, this includes paid/pro apps.
There are instructions on the link I provided, although I will supply my own version.
1. Download APK Downloader 1.4.3 (right click, save as..)
OR
Desktop EXE version of the plugin can be found here: Real APK Leecher.
2. Open chrome and paste the following into the address bar: (not required for desktop version)
Code:
chrome://extensions/
3. Drag & drop extension onto chrome extension page. (not required for desktop version)
4. Enter email and device ID on Options page
1. There are two ways to get Email and Device ID
a. Easy way: install this Device ID app, it will show you your emails and Device ID
OR
b. Difficult way: Open dial pad, call *#*#8255#*#* ( 8255 = TALK ). If it opens “GTalk Service Monitor”, find lines that begin with JID and Device ID. Your email is JID, and your device id is a string that after android- prefix
For example: if it shows android-1234567890abcdef , then your device ID is 1234567890abcdef
Do not type in random email or device ID, it won’t work
2. Enter your email’s password, then press Login. If everything is ok, now you can use APK Downloader
5. Start using !
Navigate to any Google Playstore app page and you will notice a new icon right beside the favorite star on the address bar.
By clicking this icon the APK will be directly downloaded onto your PC, if it doesn't work the first time you may have to refresh the page.
Hope you enjoy, please remember to hit thanks.
Great write up. Will try it later. Thanks. This will save me so much time.

I also installed this and once I click on the icon in the address bar nothing happens.I did refresh the page, it didn't work. I then restarted tried again and it didn't work. But thanks for the write up and good luck to all those who can get this working

Its not like reverse vnc, its like, uh, vnc.
This website has all the stuff you need to get a vnc server running on your phone:
http://code.google.com/p/android-vnc/
Note: If you just run the fbvncserver, you can get a vnc server in VIEW ONLY mode. To get full interactive VNC, you need to run a kernel with their patch applied -- do not try to boot off their patched kernel, it is for emulator only. If you want to use their kernel patch, you must checkout the source code -- it comes with the patch file. Apply it to the applicable kernel source and boot off that.
I was looking for the same thing for my EVO. I found an app in the Market called "droid VNC Server" by Jose Pereira that allows you to remotely control your Android phone from a PC wirelessly. I tried it over WiFi and it worked flawlessly for me!
Here's a link to it on Market:
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.onaips.vnc&feature=search_result
(Edit: Sorry, didn't realize this thread was from 2009 until after I hit submit. It was the top Google result for my search for a solution.)
thanks for the info..
it really helps...
some moderator like to lock old thread...if we reply to it..
but it actually helps sometimes..

Anyway to do this or something like this without any internet what so ever? I have no internet and would like to connect phone via USB. Then see screen on computer be able to use Mouse for touch and keyboard to type. Is it possible? Everything I see fails to mention you need to connect to internet to use it either by having DSL cable or tethering for you WiFi data. No internet options for me.
So my screen has always been a little wonky. I've never been able to hit that market search button on the first try.
I came across this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=934500
which has an app for calibrating the screen. It definitely runs and calibrates ok. My initial 5 minute impression is that the calibration is better! Just thought I'd share!
Thanks for sharing. I've found that my top right corner is the least sensitive area of my touch screen, with the right and left edges coming in a close second. I've tried recalibrating the old fashioned way with adb, but I still don't get the best results. I'll give this a try when I get home.
I used the htc calibration tool and it seemed to do the trick. It was included with project elite when I flashed my droid over to it.

You simply downoad the apk file and tap on it to run it. When it is finished, it does not say so, but just use the back key to exit the app and you're finished ....... and calibrated.
By the way, works great on NookieFroyo for me.

The one I uploaded is not in the app store.
Seems to work here too. I am a little hesitant because it requires so little on the users part (don't have to touch anything??). Anyone have an idea how this app might be working?

The one I posted you touch the screen on random dots that the program places. If you are skeptical about the one posted feel free to try mine.
no need to run any script, or use any 3rd party tethering apps,
juz use Root Explorer, edit
"build.prop" under "system" folder,
find "ro.mot.entitlement_check=true" and change it into
"ro.mot.entitlement_check=false"
restart machine and tht's done, at&t authentication gone, tested and work
if this has been posted before, please remove, thx!
I guess there's really no reason to even add a custom APN with this, right?
Doesn't work for me. Still attempts to check.

if you're using root explorer you need to hit the tab near the top that says "Mount r/w" to edit the file.

turn off wifi..
This works but doesn't show the notification. Could cause people to lose battery life with this...
Bump, works for me on 1.8.3 with Gingerblur
Change the ro.entitlement to false and then add ",tether" next to default on the APN type.
Reboot the phone and enable the hotspot.
You won't get a notification in the taskbar, but just disable it when you're done with it.
hi i have changed. ro.entitlement to flase and reeboted, but it says too much battery and when you press yes it just closes. how is supposed to run when you have it right?

Well, if you changed it to "flase", then I'd imagine it not working.
Anyway, there is no "indication" that the hotspot is working, you need to verify that it is working by trying to connect to it via a computer.

1. I would like to know your process of rooting with gingerblur on 1.83
2. I have added false to that line, what do you mean by add tether to what APN?
3. would you have detailed instructions? like step by step vs. this vague info is just hard to follow.
I have had the best luck by simply changing the apn of att tether to "phone" from "broadband" using a SQL editor.
This allows mms and text messing to dynamically chose the correct apn (no manual downloading mms messages) and they icon works.

Those instructions are completely, patently obviously crystalline. You should go google your google os then reread. Seriously, don't ask to be served on a silver platter. Read, understand and ask for specific clarification on a step that confuses you if google and forum search fail you. Rooting is well documented. Get unlazied for that one. Which apn should you consider adding tether to? Probably the one you are using, common sense would dictate. (Further extension of common sense states that you might need to make a new apn that is a copy of your current one with changes for this.)
Mine worked without adding tether to my apn! I don't know that this particular step is necessary. I've downloaded several hundred MB's through my phone on Steam without adding tether to my apn, but YMMV.

I used version 1.74 and had it installed using Wondershare MobileGo. It worked just fine, but like someone mentioned in another post... you can see the phone number, but no name. It does work just perfect for conversating.
I even upgraded my phone version of Tablet Talk it it worked. It would just relay the that the two are diff versions, but other than that no big deal.

If you installed it with Wondershare then I'm not sure what the issue would be. I know mine ran fine. The times it would crash is if I clicked on the contacts generic pic. Sorry, all I can say is try it again, make sure you have the right version or maybe try another version or wait for them to perfect it I guess. .

Hi, everyone. I'm currently trying to set up my NST using 1337 ROM and make everything works the way it should.
I am trying to get Google Voice to work. I have everything working except for the keyboard. I just cannot get the keyboard to pop up. Is there an alternate keyboard I can install or should I install an older Google Voice APK? I'm not sure where to go from here.
Amazon Appstore cannot be parsed properly. I am assuming that this is because the apk is the most recent version. I cannot seem to find any NST compatible APK so I'm wondering if anybody here could share a link to it for me please? Thanks
I am also not able to find the right opera APK. I want to replace the UC browser that came built in.
Is there any RPG games you can recommend for the NST? I'm currently checking out Andor's Trail. And a few RPG GameBoy games via an emulator. Just trying to get some simple games. Especially some that are two players so I can play with my wife too.
Thank you for any responses.

2. Execute the commands displayed below:

# sqlite3 settings.db

There are two versions around, one with lighter backgrounds (still darker than the original) and one with darker backgrounds. These changes are global so they will affect the overall appearance of even B&N menus. I chose the lighter ones.
The installation is described here and you can examine more of that thread for additional info. The files described are no longer available at the links given in the thread, but I believe mergen3107 recently reposted them.
Thanks! I did everything suggested and it seems to have fixed everything. Still getting used to the new barely visible menu text but I think I can handle that.
Thank you both! the Nook is a lot more usable now
@Deafcyclist, I just updated my SBM Theme (which is used in yattaro's and my 1337 ROM) to include nmyshkin's and mergen3107's fix for the barely visible menu text. Go check it out, if you like. The .apk there with the fix is called framework-res.alt.batterypercentage+graymenu.apk. Follow the installation instructions, and you'll be good to go.
