After being on these forums for a while, I've come to know the 5 main ROMS for the D4.
AOKP
The Arctic
SELFKANG/CM9
Gummy
Eclipse
I think that there should be a thread that compares each ROM, and that helps people, myself included, choose from these wonderful pieces of software that would best be suited for their likings.
If I may, I came from CM7, and I miss it dearly. I also enjoyed MIUI, but always came back to CM7.
I am excited about CM9, but more than ICS, I want some tweakability and theming again. I would love to see CM7 themes.
However, my biggest actual need, is lapdock support. Whatever custom rom supports it will be my first choice.
I just wish I could code to help. Alas, I am not a coder.

I was more referring to features of the listed rooms in my first post. But theming and such are good things to discuss too
Is it still true that none of the ICS ROMs have a working video camera yet due to driver issues?
I'm still on stock, but recent issues with Bluetooth AVRCP being completely broken in both versions of the stock ROM have me interested in taking the plunge.
It's true. For video to work I guess we'll have to wait for an ICS release from Motorola. Doubt any dev will work on it knowing Motorola will release it.
I for one am a happy AOKP user. Not sure if you would be. Some have reported audio issues with ICS/AOKP/AOSP. At the moment I have no need for Bluetooth audio. Except maybe my carkit.
I'm perfectly happy sticking on eclipse 1.3.6 right now its really fast, and no issues as of yet
Looking for a nice ROM with stable data connection, absolutely love ICS but sketchy data is putting it on hold for now. Gonna try eclipse...

Eclipse is absolutely amazing, haven't run in to any problems at all
Google is expected by some to announce Android 4.1 Jellybean next week along with their Nexus 7 tablet. Besides chrome integration and a new search widget, what do you guys think will be included with this update?
Since its coded 4.1 and not 5, i expect Android ICS devices will be updated to 4.1 as it is pretty soon to updgrade hardware requirements as 1gb is pretty muh still the standard adn most ICS devices have this amount of RAM. This said, do you guys think any developers will begin porting 4.1 to our devices, even with the hardware codecs and other issues still being prevelant? Would you guys really want it like this, half built?
If this update is good, would this persuade you to upgrade to the droid4, as it will have a higher probability of having a completely working port? since it has ICS now leaked and working, and still a high end phone, when not compared to the SIII atleast.
I think our device runs fine on Gingerbread still...
It would be nice for a port but the little development we have now is already stable with gingerbread.
It was leaked that the GNex will be getting 4.1. As for us running it... I would bet large sums of money against it working right.
From RootzWiki: Galaxy Nexus to get Jellybean 4.1
Screenshot proof:
http://rootzwiki.com/uploads/monthly_06_2012/ccs-808-0-41169000-1340388367_thumb.jpg
Although this is the GSM versions pictured, it won't be tough to build it from source for the CDMA GNex before it's pushed.
4.0.3 to 4.0.4 was pushed to most if not all custom ICS roms. I don't see why 4.1 would not follow, unless there are MAJOR changes which from what I've read there really aren't. I would expect Gummy and AOKP to bring it to their roms in the near future.
However I highly doubt it will change how we stand with our current issues and most likely may cause some new ones.
Ehhh gingerbread runs ok on our phones in my opinion, ics was ALOT faster for me. Im using elcipse right now and its fast but my benchmakrs with ics were much higher, os ran smoother too.
That is a good point by the poster above, so that is high hopes of seeing a port even though I know it wont bring any more features than we already have, except the minor changes to the OS. It will be fun to test though. In around 12 hours we will have better knowledgge of what Jwlly Bean has to offer
I'm sorry but what's the point in upgrading if we won't have a proper ICS on D3 anyway?

Also, you guys should really check out jellybean. It seems to be a much more complete os.

I'm working on a kexec based bootloader bypass on droid3. It's coming along and the kernel say half boots. Once it is going I think jellybean is a real possibility. Probably will just skip ICS all togeather.

I saw your post in the kexec thread, I wish I knew how to help with that, I recommend you contact the original kexec developers, (I forgot which phone they were on) to help.

I hate "half done" anything... i would like to see it completed for our devices however its not persuading me to go to the D4 since i am a new verizon customer and my plan isnt up for renewal for another year.

Oh really
So if you were able to get custom kernels working does that mean you could use something like a modded Bionic ICS kernel (since its very similar hardware) or would a kernel have to be made from scratch.
The Nexus S is getting an official Jellybean update, and it only has 512MB of memory, just like the Droid3.
I read that memory limitations are what prevented devices like the NexS and the Droid3 from getting properly updated to ICS. I also read that Jellybean probably has looser system requirements than ICS, due to optimizations.
I do hope we can get JellyBean, either officially or otherwise. I'd love to have Google Now and I'm only halfway through my two-year contract.

That's crazy, I was wondering whether any singlecore 512MB RAM phone was getting JB.

Correct. Also he has said that we will be able to get Jellybean. I would imagine with all he has learned this year, he can probably get it fully running now. Hwcodecs may be the showstopper though...again. In theory a workaround may be available since we have a custom kernel.

512 is enough but I think the issue has something to do with RAM being shared with the GPU so there is less avaliable, I get something around 330MB as total RAM when adding the 2 numbers under running services. My Droid 3 running stock 2.3.4 with bloat frozen is using around 250 MB. My Touchpad with CM9 and a full 1GB of RAM idles at around 300MB of RAM used, and its going to be less conservative on RAM usage since its got a GB.
The point is I don't think a CM9/10 ROM will be much worse than a bloated GB ROM as far as RAM usage goes. I really wish we had some more RAM, but I could see CM9/10 being a daily driver sometime in the future. The rest of the hardware in this phone is still pretty decent and CM should be no problem for it as long as the team can get some drivers working.
Hey everybody,
Just curious what the development scene looked like for the D4? I need a qwerty keyboard and I'm currently on the D2 with the new update so I no longer have root or ICS which means I'm looking to move on to the latest of the qwerty droid family. However I don't want to get something and find that nobody is working on anything for it, since ultimately I'd like to end up with some version of JB on my phone, I figure since the devs have been able to get ICS onto it that it won't take that much more of an effort to get JB onto it. Is this true or am I just blowing hot air?
I really loved the D4 when I went to mess around with it at the store and will most likely end up getting it since my D2 is at the end of it's life but I figured it get a feel for what the dev scene looked like for the D4.
Cheers!

Phone has a locked bootloader, which means less dev. Current leaks of ICS work well. Easy enough to root and debloat. Plus Moto was tasteful on the their tweaks to ICS, for the most part it's stock. If your a flash-a-hollic though this is probably not the phone for you as the device has been out for some time and has little support here.
I'm not sure it's quite as bleak as all that. I agree that this is probably not the phone for flashaholics. There is not a ton of dev support but there is some. The ICS leaks pulled from Moto are surprisingly nice. Blur is kept to a minimum and bloat can be easily frozen if not removed. The ICS ROMs based off of the stock GB kernel are a little rough due to trying to run off of a GB kernel. The ICS ROMS built off of the leaked ICS builds are coming along nicely however. The data issues present on the GB builds are all but gone. We have both CM9 and AOKP ports built off the ICS leak and hopefully we'll see a Gummy port based off the leak as well. I too am hoping we'll eventually see a JB build but it's awfully early to be speculating on that. My hope is that, at the least, we'll see working JB builds running off our ICS kernel. Since JB is not a complete overhaul like going from GB to ICS I am hopeful such a build would run well without the same issues we saw running ICS on the GB kernel.
do you think if the Razr gets the JB update, would the Droid 4 get it then?

Not quite sure why you would use bleak in response to either the OP's post or mine, and then proceed to mutter the same things I said afterwards.
Thanks guys, hopefully we'll see a JB port that runs on the ICS kernel
Whatever happened to the kexec exploit? My understanding was people were just waiting for the source of the ICS kernel to drop.
Once that happens, we can do pretty much anything we want
Hey guys,
It turns out my Atrix 4G is eligible for the Motorola trade up program and the Atrix HD is the only high end Motorola phone on AT&T. Is the phone rooted yet and are there any roms available? I did a search and there doesn't appear to be official Cyanogenmod, or any other roms for that matter. The main reason I would want to flash would be to get rid of motoblur ... if there are no custom roms is there at least a way to get rid of motoblur and return to android stock UI?
Its rooted and there will be official jb coming out soon! (beta already out)
Motoblur is only in traces, it got phased out.
I'm a flashaholic myself but I'm actually enjoying the Atrix HD just the way it is. Upgraded from the Atrix 4G as well and I'm definitely glad I did. The jellybean leak is very well put together and the 4.2 apps available for download definitely adds to the greatness that is the Atrix HD. The Razr MAXX battery mod increased the life of the phone big time.

I've had my AHD for about a week now, and I'm usually a flashaholic, but honestly I don't see any obvious reasons to need to flash anything. I loathed Motoblur, and thankfully it's not here. I did root though, for obvious reasons. I can tell you that I am extremely picky about phones, and can name probably ten phones I've used this year, and this is my favorite.
Okay cool, thanks for the info guys! Looks like the Atrix HD will be my next phone!
You won't be disappointed!

Yeah same here, I was a flashaholic as well, probably been through 6 or 7 phones this year already and once I got my hands on the Atrix HD, I am completely happy.
Agreed that the stock jellybean leak is very well done, feels like vanilla jb with a few nice tweaks. Of course once we have recovery working there will be ROMs and kernels hehe
Do keep in mind that your SD card can not be used to install any apps on to it nor can it be used to install a game and then the game installs any extra data.
A working recovery is almost here guys. Hashcode is working his azz off to finish it right now!

Exactly, I haven't had a single hiccup AT ALL with my AHD. I wanted to throw my S3 against the wall. This Motorola is just solid.
I was over at the dev deparment and found most rom threads dead, however, I did find one activew. Going to try the CM 11 nightly, I havent updated mine TouchPad in years
I second your question. I still find the TouchPad to be a capable tablet.

Android 5.1.x development is still happening, thanks to our talented developers However Kitkat Roms will give you the most stable and fully functional experience. Jcsullins and Milaqs CM11 builds are both great choices. I'm personally using Sumashs 4.4.4 PAC Man Rom, overclocked with Kernel Adiutor (ROOT) Increasing the default clock speed from 1.2Ghz to either 1.5Ghz or 1.7Ghz will give you a little extra performance boost. Everything you need to know and a list of the Roms is available in my full thread below, happy flashing.
[ROM GUIDE]How to install Android 5.x.x/4.4.x with Jcsullins TPtoolbox Super Easy Way
Thank you!

Even though Flintman is moving onto M which will be dropping next week or so, I gave this 5.1.1 rom a shot and was eternally grateful for his most recent update expanding bluetooth connectivity and the front camera to work. It does not do video as it will lock up, but stills are just fine in either orientation (landscape/portrait)

I am surprised too! Still using TP few years. Bought it in China for funny 100 USD and it is some prototype with 3G module, Memory eMMC: Samsung 64Gb and LPDDR2: 8GB Samsung.
Using with ev_tenderloin-5.1.1-testing-2015.10.02 and absolutely satisfied.
Waiting for Marshmallow!
I have TPs running CM9, CM12.1 and Evervolv's AOSP Marshmallow 6.0.1.
I've been using CM12.1 (Lollipop 5.1) for about as long as anybody here, and from my experience, it's pretty rock-solid. I've had fewer problems on that than I've had on my CM9 (Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0) TP.
The TP running Evervolv's Marshmallow is still my "testing" tablet. If you don't need Bluetooth or the camera, it could be a daily driver for basic tablet use, but if I were a heavy user of Netflix and Skype (which I'm not), I would probably have a few more concerns about this early Alpha build. That said, this is getting really close. It's probably closer to a finished product than the first releases of Windows 95 were.
Thanks, xda!
Just a quick shout out to jcsullins and Roland Deschain for their collective works. I've successfully updated my old HP TP with Android 4.4.4 (CM11)! I'm not a dev guy, so the TP Toolbox was awesome and easy to use.
Thanks guys!

Evervolv! The last update on their 5.1.1 had a working camera and bluetooth. I'll warn you that the bluetooth is not 'perfect' in that it will pair w/ just about everything, but won't move data necessary, example, doing file transfers won't work, but the audio works w/ no issues.

Thanks. Now I will have to decide whether I need to do Bluetooth file transfers or not.
So I gather JCScullin's(or Milaq's) 4.4.x releases are the only ones that have a fully functioning Bluetooth with Camera. Decisions, decisions.....

You'd be right in saying that. I would say that if you can hold on a little, Flintman has been working really hard on the Marshmallow version of Evervolv w/ working bluetooth, but no camera. The bluetooth stack he's trying to work in will be, in my opinion, even better than the existing HP one.
I'm not sure if he'll be able to get the camera working though, so you may have to stay with lollipop if you really need or want it.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get video to work and I think that was in part due to a lack of hardware libraries that are compatible with lollipop and newer. While the convenience of that camera is pretty neat, most feel it's not justified to get it working versus something like Bluetooth. It's really hard from a dev perspective to get that camera working. So kudos to Flintman for even getting it to do still pics.
