Hello friends,
I've just found two good apps. There is no need to wake up our devices using power button !
I hope you love them.
Tap tap app
Wake all
Screen off and lock (widget)
You can find them easily on the Store !

Even better app
I have been using this app (Gravity Screen On/Off) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexnor.gravityscreenofffree for quite a while and I must say it is the best app out there for waking/turning off your phone with the proximity sensor.
I had a problem with it which was every time I rebooted my phone I had to clear the app's data, but after flashing cm11 2nd of February nightly and iodak's kernel v9.9 this app has been working flawlessly for me, even with the phone in deep sleep mode.
So here's the tip for anyone looking for a more advanced/complete solution for waking up your phone with using your power button.
Just make sure you uncheck the option "Turn Screen On by Motion" to save your battery, as this options uses the gravity sensor to wake up your phone, and wastes a lot of battery. With that option off, this app concumes something as low as 0.5% of battery per hour, which is the consumption rate of the proximity sensor

Hey, thanks for sharing this tip! I always wanted to have such a feature! It works great! I hope the battery consumption is really as low as you said (turn screen on by motion unchecked of course). I will test it more intensive during the next days.

In my opinion Auto Screen On https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.omd.autoscreenon is far better. It uses proximity sensor and all you have to do is double tap on sensor. You can set sleep time during which proximity sensor will be turned off. Also whan you take it out of pocket or case just swipe finger over sensor and the phone is ON.
Gravity screen gave me a lot of accidental screen turn ONs, but when i need it I have to shake it like an idiot. Maybe I haven't set configuration correnctly but i tried everything.
Gravity Screen's battery consumption is for me 4%/hour (flight mode)...

My name is John, my brother is disabled and is using a special mouth controled usb mouse for his mobile phone. (Samsung S6).
The problem is now that we like a method to wake up the device using the mouse.
I use now a app that is prefenting the device to go to deep sleep, but that is a problem with the battery power use. Do you have any suggestion how I can solve this for my brother.
I think that one way of doing it is updating the device configuration file for the mouse. I am able to program app's but have no experiace in updating this system files.
Is it posible to program a app to solve this and have you any suggestions in what way I have to do that.
The Samsung S6 has a hard button

try Go Locker .....u can find it on the market
Hey,
It seems we're out of luck if this guy is right:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21652366&postcount=7
so basically it's a hardware issue - volume key presses don't register when the phone is in deep sleep. And if the phone doesn't go to deep sleep, it kills the battery pretty quickly.
Are you on CM (e.g. CM7)? If so then you have this feature "for free" - it's one of the options in the CyanogenMod Settings in the menu. One drawback is that this will not work if you have the music widget enabled on the lock screen.
EDITED: hmm, unless you meant not "awaking" the phone but just fully unlocking it, i.e. going directly e.g. to the main screen. In such case - I have not found such thing in CM7 (to some extent you can overcome this with gestures but that's still equivalent to moving the the slider or whatever in fact). Generally: is the lock screen really needed? Is there a way to get rid of the lock screen altogether?
Thanks for replies.
So it seems that about deep sleep is true. But i have set mix freq to 500 even 800 with no luck.
Yes i was on cm7. It was working just like for 5 secs or so after locking.
Is this tegra specific or LG?
Edit: wakelock app from the market works for me. It prevents phone from deep sleep.

it works until phone enters deep sleep, everything is off except power button.
If this deep sleep thing is correct, then there's no way of making the phone unlock without the power button? no matter what application you use for unlocking it? My phone is new and I don't want my physical buttons to wear out =/

The risk is clearly near zero, my phone if one year old and I have no problem.
You have an app to change buttons mapping, it can be useful if your button is dead, but less clear when all are functional. Try to search 'button mapping' in market I don't remember the name.
I installed a couple of apps for this, like Smart cover https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=smart.cover, and Proximity Smart Cover https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danielling.proximitysmartcover . Basically I want when the proximity is covered (case closed), the screen goes off, and then goes on when it's uncovered. These 2 apps can do the 'wake' part alright (wake screen when the proximity is no longer covered) but they can't seem to turn off the screen when it's covered. I granted both admin permission. Here are some clues:
_ My proximity sensor is working alright (checked through hidden menu, and it does turn off the screen when proximity covered in-call)
_ Tap tap app can work (touch/wave 2x to lock, same to wake)
So any idea why those 2 app can't work? Thanks in advance.
I use Smart Screen on my Note II with the following settings:
Basic - everything blank (no ticks in the boxes}
Prox - Blank
Sensor - Blank
Start/Stop - Disable in landscape
This works for me and I have not noticed any battery drainage problems.
Please note: I have stock 4.1.2 and no lock screen enabled (my phone never leaves my sider.
This is not my ideal setup as the screen will immediately sleep if i hapren to accidently go to close. I need to pull down the notification menu at the far left or right of the screen. I have tried to play with the delayed reaction settingsand have had contact with the developer about the situation.
I am however happiest that as soon as i open my wallet case the phone is ready for use.
Quick and easy with one hand

Tried calibrating both in hidden menu and in app, but still there. But using another app, Smart screen off pro, fixed it. Guess it has to be with a different mechanism.
not proximity sensor
I have had the same problem on my 4X but the problem isn't the proximity sensor. I have tried various other apps including orientation and brightness locks. These haven't worked either, I have tried to change lock screen settings and screen time out but these haven't worked. Does anyone have any other suggestions or solutions to this problem?

My settings (checked):
Basic:
- Start on Boot
- Hide notification messages
Start/Stop
- Disable when in Landscape
- Enable only when in Launcher (not necessary, if u want it allways to turn screen off leave unchecked, I want Screen on in Apps, so I checked it)
Vibration:
- Vibrate when screen turned off
Thats all...
any one else have this issue with Xperia Z ?
i can make calls or recieve calls and then the screen goes black when put to my ear as it should, but most of the time [not all the time] when i finish the call and take it away from my ear it wont light up so i can't end the call. i have to wait for the other person to hang up, and even then sometimes it wont light up.
they hang up the phone call doesn't end so it just stays black and i can't do anything.
i can restart it by pressing the off button and volume up at the same time, but i don't want to have to restart my phone every time i make a phone call.
has any one had this issue?
Could be software issue, ie a third party app, for example justshake and similar apps have options to alter proximity sensor activity but I stay away from altering them. The only time I have a similar issue is with modded Skype but a brief press or two of power button restores the screen so not a big issue.
You should try in service menu if your sensor is functioning properly.
A small workaround to end call without having to use the screen is to enable ens call with power button press which is in accessibility settings of the phone, so don't need to wait for another party to hang up or to reboot your phone

Proximity sensor
Mine started doing the same thing. After reinstalling and checking if it might be a software issue, I did some research and came across this: talk.sonymobile.com/thread/126533?start=0&tstart=0
I've taken my phone in, and awaiting a response. (The phone is just over a week old, so it just fell out of the "automatic RMA" period).
I put a skin on front... Now having issues... Is there a way to just disable it...

I had the same problem and did like the post #31 on the linked thread says :

I have a screen protector and did not remov it and it now works like a charm.
Hope it helps.
xperia z. I have the same problem after installing the spg glass protector ver1. Since the ver2 has a cutout at the proximity sensor, I do not like it and therefore keep on using the ver1 without the cutout. I prefer to disable the proximity sensor instead of having a pit on the screen surface. Just add the line:
gsm.proximity.enable=false
to the end of the file build.prop located in /system, reboot, and the sensor will be disabled.
The way to activate the screen during a phone call is to press the power button twice.
Hope this help.
Explanation/please

Can i ask how do i reach this settings. I tryed different data searches via phone and with PC (ofc with mobile connected). But i dont seem to find this system folder no matter where i look. Maybe you can make a tutorial for me or just say where to look. Thanks
You need to be rooted. The build.prop file is in /system.
An easier way to add the property to your build.prop would be to use build.prop editor - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.build.prop.editor
I will just say - BE CAREFUL when editing that file. If you edit the wrong thing, you can stop your phone booting.

I've tired all these solutions above but unfortunately I'm still facing same problem and it's really frustrating
My phone isn't rooted so I can't disable proximity sensor
If there is any other solutions ?
Install proximity smart cover from market. The screen will then come on when you take the phone away from your ear.
In settings:
Enable device admin
Turn screen off - never
Turn screen on - 0 seconds
Then go back and start the service

I was going crazy with this sensor problem, and tried all sort of thing including resetting my phone multiple times. The suggestion you mentioned here worked like a charm.
Is there something similar to tap to wake ?
I use gravity screen, works well enough.
True tap to wake requires hardware that supports it. The Fire does not seem to support it.
Note, gravity screen does not support any kind of tap to wake, nor the absent proximity sensor in the fire. It just uses the accelerometer to detect a change in orientation to wake the screen. I haven't really tested battery life before the app, so I can't really say how much it drains. Just that it works beautifully, I pick up the tab and the screen wakes, no need to hit the power button.
Now if there was only some way to disable the lock screen altogether...

Gravity Screen is a godsend. Battery drain in minimal with proximity sensors, might be more triggering off accelerometer. Actually improved battery performance on my mobile as it also blanks the screen when pocketing the phone. I rarely use the physical power button now except to reboot.
I have time triggered profiles which are working fine every time. For example set the wifi on at the morning.
I have profiles from the Tasker wiki to tun on wifi when I am at home, however if my screen is off for a longer time they are not working. So I turn on the screen and after that I see that my wifi is turning on if I am at home.
So this misbehaving is related to offscreen state for sure.
I have CM13 on my OnePlus One.
I have the same problem. it seems the system goes into deep sleep and cannot scan or connect to Wi-Fi from it, although Tasker does turn Wi-Fi on.
I tried to work around by making it vibrate 1 seconds before turning on Wi-Fi, but it's still not very reliable....
Any suggestions?

it is already 'not optimized', the only thing left is the integrated power saving feature of Tasker itself, but I want to keep it as it is.
The phone is not locked, so when the screen is on, it might accidentally do something in the pocket.

It adds Tasker to the list of apps excluded from Doze... I believe "optimized" refers to App Standby...which is different from Doze.

What could be the problem?

There is an option in Tasker which turn on the screen when performing cell near checks, I have enabled it now it is working perfectly but I would more happy if I wouldn't have to enable that option because of battery usage.
