I was under the impression that S-OFF and unlocked bootloader were the same thing.

I'm confused here:
"and no i have s-off but my bootloader is locked? could i just unlock my bootloader and root or should i redo the s-off"
So do you have s-off or do you not have s-off
Just unlock the boot loader add a recovery and flash away...if it says s-off on hboot then there is no need to redo s-off, a ruu will not remove s-off

I'm s-off even though I messed up on the wire trick and have to RUU, but my bootloader is locked

lf your s-off just unlock the bl and proceed
Do fast boot OEM relock then flash the ruu and redo everything to get s off and root

Seems like I require S-OFF.
Currently I got custom recovery and ROM but it only boots into fastboot until S-OFF is achieved.
HBoot is 1.44 S-ON, locked with tampered flag(Not the new 1.54/1.45 HBoot).
CID has been set to 11111111 and has not been unlocked on HTCDev before.
How would I proceed? or is this a complete paper weight? Phone doesn't have warranty anymore.
Thanks.
Try running an RUU while the phone is connected and in bootloader mode.

Don't use a ruu higher than your main version so you can still s off

I will s-off my phone in few days
Can i downgrade hboot with ruu?

The ruu will reset to stock your phone, not only the hboot.
If you need to change it, flash only the hboot
is ruu work from 2.24 to 1.29?
Sorry about bad english

I'm not sure. If you find you can't, it's now possible to S-Off on HBOOT 1.54/1.55 with a tool called Rumrunner.
I already have s-off on 1.44 hboot.
I noticed on rumrunner website there is a custom hboot for the Sprint variant. My question is, are there any benefits in flashing this hboot and replace the stock one? I s-off ed with revone and it said it was like a "beta". Is it better to s-off with rumrunner?

It's very well done. It is has all the freedom of using a eng hboot but it doesn't include the eng hboot tools that would get a lot of people in a pickle. Consider it like a insecure hboot

I have the Sprint Stock RUU for HTC One M8 (from developer website) and I used it once but I had to relock my bootloader because I had s-on. If I S-Off ed my device would I still have to relock my bootloader?
