native sip over LTE - Nexus 5 General

Native sip calls work on WiFi and fail on LTE.
I'm not sure why, because the res/values/bools.xml
within framework-res.apk looks good already:
<bool name="config_sip_wifi_only">false</bool>
That is what it should be to support sip over LTE.
Csipsimple works fine over LTE, so it isn't the LTE network.
Anybody seen this?

Groove IP works fine for me over lte

[Q] Is the Nexus 1 in Hotspot Mode able to act as a 3G modem and Handle Voice Calls??

When in hotspot mode with my Nexus One, I'm unable to use it as a 3G modem when I'm placing or taking a phone call. If I'm using it as a wireless hotspot for my laptop it works just fine until I either make a call or someone calls me. The the datalink on my phone drops. The laptop is still connected to the phone but the phone can't reach the internet.
Is this the way it should work ? or should I be able to data and voice simultaneously when wireless hotspot is active ?
Thanks
You can have simultaneous connection. I just had a call while tethering, 1/2 hour ago.
Yea I do it all the time. As long as your in 3g if your in edge then no it will not work.

Thats what I thought
The 'Cell Viewer' app indicates my signal type is HSDPA (yellow) and UMTS(3G) (red) Both show on the screen and the Signal Type fluctuates between the 2.
Signal Strength fluctuates between 6 and 9 TMobile in Indianapolis.
The hotspot function works great with my laptop..... until I make/get a phone call.
The signal type then switches to EDGE (green) until the end of the call.
Any suggestions ??
FROYO 2.2.1 FRG83
Set "WCDMA Only":
http://www.androidcentral.com/how-force-nexus-one-3g-mode
See what happens.
I believe you can restrict your connection to 3G only. In your dialer, type *#*#4636#*#* (4636 is INFO). Select phone information, then near the bottom change WCDMA preferred to WCDMA only.
You can change it back when not using Bluetooth, if you wish...
CM6 has a toggle in the power widget.

Thanks for the tip!
Thank-you. I'll try it.....let you know if I'm successful.
btw..... didn't there use to be a menu from which this selection could be made rather than having to type in the code ? It was several layers below Networks ???

wifi hotspot question

I am looking at adding the wifi hotspot service to my phone.
I'm wondering if anybody uses it and what your experiences are?
Any things I should watch out for?
A salesman at Best Buy told me that while hotspot is running I can't make or receive phone calls, is this true?
I should clarify, I'm asking about the Verizon mobile hotspot service added to my account. I am not asking about the hacks to steal the service. I understand the reasons others use them, it's just not for me. Whether I like their rules or not, it's Verizon's network so I'm going to play by the rules.
EDIT: it looks like I have the primary answer I was concerned about, you can still make and receive calls while using the hotspot.
I have the 4g LTE hotspot on my Galaxy Nexus. Most of the time when I'm using it, I'm in 3g mode. If a call comes in, it suspends the internet connection until the call is over. I've never tried making a call while using the hotspot, and I'm not sure what would happen when using the hotspot in 4g LTE mode. Since voice calls don't use 4g LTE, I don't see why it wouldn't allow voice calls while using 4g LTE hotspot.

That's pretty much what I expected, what the tech was telling me didn't make sense. It did have just enough plausibility to it though as a carry over from the 3g days when they couldn't do voice and data at the same time.

Thanks, I thought that was one of the draws of lte was being able to have data and voice at the same time.
I'm starting to think this is a viable option as our home internet connection, dropped Comcast a last fall and been using just out phones. It has been working but finding more and more times where I need to get my computer online.

When you are using it are you running on battery or plugged in?
If you're running plugged in does it have the power to run like that indefinitely or does it still drain your battery?

How to enable HSPA 3G on t-mobile and ptel?

I want to select network and choose 3G for tmobile/ptel. It works great on my defy.
I am out on the edge of town where 2g and 4g reception are weak but 3g is great. Sadly the phone always either chooses 2g or 4g and is having problems getting a signal out here.
I know for a fact I have tmo/ptel 3g here. My moto defy is on it right now.
I downloaded network setting app and i do not see how to change the settings.
How can I get this Atrix HD to force 3G on t-mobile/ptel?
Do I need to root?
I use this app called Phone Info that has been removed from Google Play (it was actually only renamed, it can still be found at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=myc.phone.PhoneInfo with a title in Chinese). I get 3G when I select WCDMA only.

Tmobile's "3G" and "4G" are the same, or are you referring to LTE? Look in your About Phone, what type of data connection does it say you're getting while idle and using data?
Depending what ROM you have many of the ROMs you can enable toggles for the desire network

If you use the hidden menus you can force it to stay 3g.

Signal switches from LTE to HSDPA wtf?

Where I live I have decent LTE signal strength about -85dbm in the house. Currently my phone says LTE, but if I make a phone call the network automatically switches to H, and internet is incredibly slow. When I get off the phone the network will still stay on H but internet browsing speeds will improve.
Restarting the phone does not seem to fix the issue, and it will take hours for it to go back to LTE. The only way I've found I can get it right back to LTE is by calling T-Mobile and having them reset my phone to the cell tower and I will regain full signal.
Can someone explain to me what in gods name is going on. I'm running stock android 5.0.1
Thank you

Nexus 6 does not support Voice over LTE (VoLTE) on T-Mobile network or VoLTE is not in your area. That is why its changing to HSPA speeds when you make the phone call.
The connection to HSPA should go back to LTE after your phone call is done though, even though it isn't doing that for you.
Thank you. But is there any reason when switching to the HSDPA network and on call my service is so miserably slow? Its like being in a 14.4k modem. Takes forever to load something.

Have you tried updating your modem/radio? Verified APN settings? New SIM card?
I have T-Mobile and there's no VoLTE where I live but the speeds are still 20mb/s with H+ while I'm on a call. VoLTE would be nice but I don't think its enabled in any network for the Nexus 6 yet.
Hopefully when N6 gets TMo WiFi Calling, VoLTE support gets added. It would be nice
I updated the radio when I flashed the newest 5.0.1 update. I did the update manually so I know I flashed the updated radio... This was one of the issues I had with the original 5.0.0 software that I was hoping the update would fix.

Force phone to stay on lte without losing calls and text?

Is there a way to make my phone ALWAYS connect to lte whenever there is ANY signal for it without losing calling and text? I know that if you go into *#*#4636#*#* you can force the phone to stay lte, but if I do that I loose calling and texting capabilities.
My problem is my building has lte signal thought, but my phone thinks 3g is better in the first floor so it connects to it... Forcing it to lte with *#*#4636#*#* works for data, but calls and text don't go through at all.

if sprint doesnt have volte, then you can not. im using tmobile, which is using volte, so i enable lte only, and get calls and texts. if no volte, then you wont get calls or texts via lte.

I was thinking more along the lines of telling the phone 3g data doesn't exist or is always worse, so if it sees lte it should grab it but at the same time staying connected to cdma so phone calls work

Right the problem is my phone isn't choosing the truly BEST signal. 3g in my first floor gets 0.2-0.6 Mbps whereas my LTE there is 0.5- 1.3 Mbps yet my phone connects to 3g...

Same problem here. LTE is 5mb/s and 3G is 200kb/s and my phone wants to switch to 3G constantly
Make sure it isn't set to global. Will handoff even more.
I have Samsung Note 4 N910C Android 5.1.1. I went to service menu by dialing *#2263# and I set it LTE only and my signals are lost. Now can anyone help me. How can I set it to Automatic again.

You do realize that a quicker speed does not mean a better signal reception, right?

right, that's also what the phone thinks, I want the speed not the reception. why would I want reception? I don't do phone calls like a caveman
I do realize the LTE fringes on -120dbm, but the few seconds it loses lte isn't enough to affect browsing, yet my phone thinks it's signal doomsday and switches to 3g
