LTE - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Does anyone know once sprint lights up the 1900 mhz lte on a tower and 800 mhz voice how long after that before they light up the 800 mhz LTE? Or is this something that takes a while? I have the 1900 LTE 1.3 miles from my house on a tower and I can't connect when I'm in the yard. I have to drive about 500 feet toward the tower before I can get the LTE signal. Though when I do get the signal it's pretty fast. 15-30 down 5-10 up. Thanks for anyone who may have the true answer

Also, the HTC One does not have the 800mhz frequency built in to it.

It does have the 800mhz for voice only.
Only LTE band on Sprint's HTC One is band 25. (1900mhz).
Verizon's has the 750mhz band instead of the 1900mhz.

I work for Sprint, and can tell you that usually that means they are still working on the tower. While I am not allowed to give any specific info about your area in general this happens a lot when an area is just starting out. Give it a month or two and you will most likely have a wider coverage net. Also there is not actual time frame when it comes to how fast an area gets the next step in Network Vision. It is very different depending on area. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

This. The Sprint HTC One can only connect to LTE on band 25 (1900 MHz). Sprint has only recently started rolling out its tri-band LTE devices (e.g., Nexus 5, LG G2, etc...).

Today I Watched My Nexus 4 Get Genuinely Confused

So I'm on a road trip, and I brought my N4 (on T-Mobile USA) along for the ride. I decided to stay the night in Savannah, GA. After checking into my hotel, I took my phone out of my pocket and saw something I've never seen before. It was showing a data connection as "3G" rather than the usual "H" for HSPA or "E" for EDGE. I had to do a double take. Curious, I went to Settings-About Phone-Status and checked the network type. It was "UMTS:3". Obviously that means T-Mobile's network refarming has happened here and 1900 MHz UMTS is live.
Here's the thing, though. The radio keeps switching between "3G" and "H" every few seconds, seemingly unable to figure out which one it wants to hold onto. The phone is still usable but I still find it annoying. Of course, the vast majority of T-Mobile phones would never experience this since they hardly ever have support for 1900 MHz, but I'm curious if other N4 owners living in areas where T-Mobile has lit up 1900 MHz UMTS are having this issue as well? In the end, the phone may be usable, but the constant switching is playing hell on my OCD!!

At least the refarming is done where you're at, I'm still impatiently waiting.

Yeah but at this rate I'm hoping they either fix this in a Nexus 4 radio update (maybe make it prefer HSPA over UMTS, but I don't know if that would cause problems outside the US), or never light it up in my home market. haha
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
I just came from Verizon of 12 years and a gs3. I'm on umts at my home in rural Atlanta ga. It does the same switching as you say. I just thought that was normal gsm behavior .... phone is idle then 3g is active. Phone queries the net (open browser etc...) and H kicks in.
On another note the H speeds here are almost equal to vzw lte, I'm impressed

I just noticed you're in Durham, I'm in Winston.
Has the refarm taken effect by you?
My phone does this then pulls the h on demand I am in Detroit metro area. I still pull high download speeds and don't have a problem with the change over. Honestly until I read this post I thought this was normal. Do do a speed test see if it is slower or faster then your use to.

I have had my N4 for only a couple months, but it has been doing that ever since I got it. I am in the Farmington, MO area too though. I thought it was just normal, as this is the first time I have had a decent phone and be on a plan rather than prepay.

I find it wierd that you've never seen the 3G label. Normally you camp on 3G (UMTS) and it'll flip to "H" for HSPA+ when data's transferring either up, down, or both. This has been normal over the years, until there were modifications on T-Mobile's side to display 4G all the time for devices that were HSPA+ capable.

GS2, Samsung edited to reflect 4G. Most customers would be perplexed by the constant camping on 3G, then flipping to H (HSPA+ which is branded as T-Mobile 4G), so the just modified their network bits in their OS to reflect 4G all the time. As far as the Nexus S, that's just a 3G device not capable of the HSPA+ bandwidth (it topped out at 7mbps).

Sounds like you're running an AOSP rom on your N2. 3G for UMTS, H for HSPA+, and 4G for the LTE. If you were on a stock TMo ROM, it'd be 4G for UMTS and HSPA+, then 4G LTE for LTE.
Important to note is that the status bar icons ate just that. . .icons. You could actually modify these to display whatever you wanted. If I wanted it to say 8G when on LTE, I'd just have to make a custom icon and bake it in. Doesn't mean I actually have an 8G network.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium HD app
thats normal behavior, it changes to H when there is data flow. it just depends on the area and the signal/coverage in the area. on a custom rom, i see it change from a H to a H+ all the time(when data is flowing). rarely, i see a 3G.

Verizon 4g lte on Sprint!?

I know this doesn't sound possible hell I Dont believe it myself but I am in LittleRock Arkansas where Sprint has NO 4g, I'm up here at work bored so I flash the 1000 Verizon prl, I unlock my SIM card (don't think that mattered , I didn't put a SIM card in). I forced roaming on my phone and I about had a heart attack when the 4g showed in my notification bar!! I thought it may be wrong but I ran some speed test with and without it. Highly doubt it... Verizon is operating LTE on 700 mhz (the latest article I saw was that in 2015 they will plan to shift some EVDO to LTE on 1900). The Sprint HTC One only supports LTE on 1900.
Just because Sprint hasn't officially announced LTE in that area doesn't mean they haven't been doing the update. They have a ton of location that have spotty (and even complete) LTE coverage that aren't even officially on the LTE list.
The n.ispsn is something new also.

Force roaming causing 4G detection isn't anything new, actually. If you put the device into LTE mode only, it achieves something similar. The device would much rather stay on Sprint service if at all possible and will take a weak LTE signal if it can (even if it would normally prefer a nearby Sprint tower providing 3G coverage).
The speeds you've posted are in-line with a Sprint 4G test/slow rollout and would frankly be rather laughable on Verizon's 4G network-- if we get around the obvious hurtle that it is not physically possible for your phone to pick up Verizon's LTE, full stop.
Eliminate what's impossible (by hardware) and we have a series of at least possible alternatives.

Sprint 4G on initial release in an area or an a tower is very wonky. It's off and on, slow and only works at a short range. Just be patient and you will get it really soon. They just activated it in a couple areas where I live also. They tend to put them near Sprint Corp stores.

Why is it unbelievable that Sprint is bringing 4g to Arkansas... They HAVE TO do the NV update on every single tower that broadcasts Sprint Signal. It is cheap as dirt to just add the LTE hardware into the NV station once the NV upgrade is completed. This is a nation wide requirement since they are about to do some wonky ass things on the 1900 MHz PCS bands (when they start to reallocate their allowed bandwidth to different techs, it is an across the board FCC license).
I'm from Arkansas too and have been keeping up with the 4G there because that's where I travel to every chance I get. Jonesboro has sprint lte and it's been planned for little rock and Fayetteville to get it for months. It was only a matter of which day. I'm surprised it took them this long. But it was expected. I'm so happy to hear this wonderful news

[Q] No 4g/LTE

Hello. I have just bought a One with Sprint, I tried several Roms and never I Reached 4G in Spain. When I selected LTE or CDMA no data , If I put it in automatic I have 3G or H but never 4g.
Same issue. I know I can get 4G beause when I drive around, my phone has said 4G on it. With that being said, I only get 4G about .00001% of the time im using the network so it goes to 4G when i dont need it. i doubt its my phone its Sprints towers but that really sucks cuz 3G is sooooooo slow for me.
It's probably because your Spanish carrier does not use CDMA or Sprints LTE bands

Are you still getting LTE? If so, you may be on 2600 MHz, in which case your speed should still be great. I only get 1 bar while at work but I'm still pulling down 20 Mb/s. Conversely, I can someone get full bars on 1900 MHz but only get 3-6 Mb/s down because band 25 is so crowded.

How do to tell what band your on? I read that in some ROMs that the signal bar is not showing the right strength? I am not personally running any ROM my M8 is rooted and s-offed but I have not flashed a ROM yet.

On the stock ROM, the signal bars correlate with the LTE signal strength. The easiest way to check which frequency you’re on quickly is download SignalCheck Lite from the Play store. If you see something that says UCF and DCF (up/down center frequency) and the numbers next to them are in the 1900s, you’re on band 25 (1900 MHz). If you see neither of those, but instead see something that says TAC (tracking area code), you might be on band 41 (2600 MHz). I haven’t encountered band 26 (800 MHz) yet, I don’t know what it would say.
The other way is to use dialer option ##DEBUG# and go to the “LTE Engineering” menu to see which band you’re on.
As for your speed test result, that looks like it’s kind of low (assuming it's 2600), and that ping is really high. I use the Ookla app and found that running on the nearest Comcast server gets me the best results.

Sorry for another dumb question but what are normal speeds and normal pings speeds? I have never understood how they rate the pings and such

There's no normal speeds, it all depends on how good the sprint signal is in your area. Good ping number will be that of below 100. The lower the better.

It's all good! I didn't know much about it either, but someone made a thread in another forum to help explain it to me:
http://www.s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/2710-How-the-Internet-Works...--haha
Basically, ping/latency is the roundtrip time for a data packet to be sent from your phone to a server and back to your phone again. A good ping for me is somewhere in the 60 ms (millisecond) or less range.
The maximum theoretical speed for band 25 is limited to 37.5 Mb/s, and I could be wrong, but band 26 might be somewhere in the same range. However, don't expect to see anywhere near 37.5 given that band 25 is so loaded now. You'll likely see 3-20 Mb/s, which is still more than enough.
Band 41, on the other hand, will typically be much faster since it's less loaded and has much more spectrum than the other two. The drawback to band 41 is that 2600 MHz does not penetrate buildings as well. On this band, even with low signal, you should be getting at least 10 Mb/s unless you're in a really crowded area or your signal is really low (-115 dBm or lower).

I'm confused... That screen shot you posted of the debug menu shows band 25.

That an M8 or M7? My M8 has the Spark "sun" icon and not the "4G" icon.

Check those speeds! The ping seems high though? Don't it?
