(Q) Signal - Sprint HTC One (M8)

Is anybody else having only one bar any where you go? Even after I update my profile and PRL?

Are you still getting LTE? If so, you may be on 2600 MHz, in which case your speed should still be great. I only get 1 bar while at work but I'm still pulling down 20 Mb/s. Conversely, I can someone get full bars on 1900 MHz but only get 3-6 Mb/s down because band 25 is so crowded.

How do to tell what band your on? I read that in some ROMs that the signal bar is not showing the right strength? I am not personally running any ROM my M8 is rooted and s-offed but I have not flashed a ROM yet.

On the stock ROM, the signal bars correlate with the LTE signal strength. The easiest way to check which frequency you’re on quickly is download SignalCheck Lite from the Play store. If you see something that says UCF and DCF (up/down center frequency) and the numbers next to them are in the 1900s, you’re on band 25 (1900 MHz). If you see neither of those, but instead see something that says TAC (tracking area code), you might be on band 41 (2600 MHz). I haven’t encountered band 26 (800 MHz) yet, I don’t know what it would say.
The other way is to use dialer option ##DEBUG# and go to the “LTE Engineering” menu to see which band you’re on.
As for your speed test result, that looks like it’s kind of low (assuming it's 2600), and that ping is really high. I use the Ookla app and found that running on the nearest Comcast server gets me the best results.

There's no normal speeds, it all depends on how good the sprint signal is in your area. Good ping number will be that of below 100. The lower the better.

It's all good! I didn't know much about it either, but someone made a thread in another forum to help explain it to me:
http://www.s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/2710-How-the-Internet-Works...--haha
Basically, ping/latency is the roundtrip time for a data packet to be sent from your phone to a server and back to your phone again. A good ping for me is somewhere in the 60 ms (millisecond) or less range.
The maximum theoretical speed for band 25 is limited to 37.5 Mb/s, and I could be wrong, but band 26 might be somewhere in the same range. However, don't expect to see anywhere near 37.5 given that band 25 is so loaded now. You'll likely see 3-20 Mb/s, which is still more than enough.
Band 41, on the other hand, will typically be much faster since it's less loaded and has much more spectrum than the other two. The drawback to band 41 is that 2600 MHz does not penetrate buildings as well. On this band, even with low signal, you should be getting at least 10 Mb/s unless you're in a really crowded area or your signal is really low (-115 dBm or lower).

[Q] Does your One (EU model) work with HSPA 850 MHz band?

My unit bought from Clove won't work with HSPA 850 MHz band, despite the specsheet saying that it does indeed support such a frequency. I tried 3 different SIMs from 2 carriers in Thailand and couldn't get any signal. The phone doesn't have any problem with HSPA 900/2100 MHz though. I'm not sure if I have a faulty hardware, or the phone simply doesn't support HSPA 850 MHz networks.
I also tried factory resetting the phone several times, but in vain.
Is there anything that I can try to make it work? All of the RUUs available for download here have older version of radio.
Thanks!

Thanks for your reply. At least I'm not the only one. Please share with me if you ever find a solution.
I'm not sure if the issue lies in the hardware. Would really like to try flashing different radios and see if it unlocks the band in question.
We are hoping it is firmware related as well. Will have to wait for S_Off before the radio can be flashed though

Verizon 4g lte on Sprint!?

I know this doesn't sound possible hell I Dont believe it myself but I am in LittleRock Arkansas where Sprint has NO 4g, I'm up here at work bored so I flash the 1000 Verizon prl, I unlock my SIM card (don't think that mattered , I didn't put a SIM card in). I forced roaming on my phone and I about had a heart attack when the 4g showed in my notification bar!! I thought it may be wrong but I ran some speed test with and without it. The catch is I lost voice. How is this possible?

Highly doubt it... Verizon is operating LTE on 700 mhz (the latest article I saw was that in 2015 they will plan to shift some EVDO to LTE on 1900). The Sprint HTC One only supports LTE on 1900.
Just because Sprint hasn't officially announced LTE in that area doesn't mean they haven't been doing the update. They have a ton of location that have spotty (and even complete) LTE coverage that aren't even officially on the LTE list.
The n.ispsn is something new also.

Force roaming causing 4G detection isn't anything new, actually. If you put the device into LTE mode only, it achieves something similar. The device would much rather stay on Sprint service if at all possible and will take a weak LTE signal if it can (even if it would normally prefer a nearby Sprint tower providing 3G coverage).
The speeds you've posted are in-line with a Sprint 4G test/slow rollout and would frankly be rather laughable on Verizon's 4G network-- if we get around the obvious hurtle that it is not physically possible for your phone to pick up Verizon's LTE, full stop.
Eliminate what's impossible (by hardware) and we have a series of at least possible alternatives.

Sprint 4G on initial release in an area or an a tower is very wonky. It's off and on, slow and only works at a short range. Just be patient and you will get it really soon. They just activated it in a couple areas where I live also. They tend to put them near Sprint Corp stores.

Why is it unbelievable that Sprint is bringing 4g to Arkansas... They HAVE TO do the NV update on every single tower that broadcasts Sprint Signal. It is cheap as dirt to just add the LTE hardware into the NV station once the NV upgrade is completed. This is a nation wide requirement since they are about to do some wonky ass things on the 1900 MHz PCS bands (when they start to reallocate their allowed bandwidth to different techs, it is an across the board FCC license).
I'm from Arkansas too and have been keeping up with the 4G there because that's where I travel to every chance I get. Jonesboro has sprint lte and it's been planned for little rock and Fayetteville to get it for months. It was only a matter of which day. I'm surprised it took them this long. But it was expected. I'm so happy to hear this wonderful news

LTE

Does anyone know once sprint lights up the 1900 mhz lte on a tower and 800 mhz voice how long after that before they light up the 800 mhz LTE? Or is this something that takes a while? I have the 1900 LTE 1.3 miles from my house on a tower and I can't connect when I'm in the yard. I have to drive about 500 feet toward the tower before I can get the LTE signal. Though when I do get the signal it's pretty fast. 15-30 down 5-10 up. Thanks for anyone who may have the true answer

I work for Sprint, and can tell you that usually that means they are still working on the tower. While I am not allowed to give any specific info about your area in general this happens a lot when an area is just starting out. Give it a month or two and you will most likely have a wider coverage net. Also there is not actual time frame when it comes to how fast an area gets the next step in Network Vision. It is very different depending on area. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Disable bands (25,26 & 41) Sprint HTC One M8

I am on the latest update and found a way to disable bands for the M8. So far I have seen no improvement but hopefully it can help someone else.
1. Go to dialer and enter ##3282#
2. Enter your MSL password
3. Go to Advanced then LTE and choose enable
4. On the main EPST menu choose LTE
5. From here you can disable certain bands.

Band 25 - LTE on 1900MHz
Band 26 - LTE on 850MHz

What's weird here is that mine showed band 41 disabled.... Also the band priority menu option errors out with a bad validation...stating you can't change it with only one enabled while I have 2....odd

Does anyone know how to modify the band priority? Mine doesn't seem to let me edit that.
This is AWESOME..
Band 25 sucks so bad out here, shut it off and rocking on Band 41 solely ... Amazing find, THANK YOU!
This is a good find, I cannot get the option to disable/enable bands. Are you guys using modded EPST file or different versions of the M8 (HK vs stock)?

follow the instructions in this thread.
You will need to be s-off and on a deodex'd stock ROM, viper and bad boy's both work with the EPST.apk in that thread.
I don't have LTE on main menu. Even using the EPST in the thread above didn't work. I'm on viper and LTE is enabled

Okay, I guess I'll be the dummy to ask.
Why would I want to do this?

You wouldn't want to disable them.

[Q] Radio/4GLTE problems T-Mobile

So lately, for awhile now I've been having major issues with my 4G LTE. My speeds on LTE when I check on speedtest would go as far as 1.00 MBps (Not kidding) and im forced to disable 4LTE and leave it to 3G or HSPA+. When I enable H I get speeds up to 10.00 mbps. Now I've done many things to try to fix it, researched and tried flashing the only radios I can find which are on here labeled "[Ref] [Radio] Nexus 6 modem collection" I currently have LMY47M Firmware and radio flashed and still H seems to work better. I'm on stock 5.1 update. I even tried speaking to T-Mobile to have my signal reset and they even got as far to transferring me to a specialist and even had the specialist send a note to the engineers to see if its the towers in my area or something. And that if it was the case that on Saturday I should see my LTE back up and working. Saturday passed and unfortunately still going through this. It's crazy because my brother ,mother and sister in-law have T-Mobile and their 4GLTE are working beautifully. So I was hoping if I can have any helping hands to help me fix this or find a solution, a radio or something for me. Please, I'm dying lol..
Any links, tutorials, personal apn settings, tricks or editing build.prop info will be SUPER MUCH appreciated.
Thanks again.

Just a thought, have you tried turning off the enhanced calling feature?

Thank you for the response. But yes, I currently have the enhanced calling feature off. And speeds are still terrible. I've attached my speed test.

That is indeed a horrible speed test result. Wait a bit and see if the member I mentioned before has some help for you. I'm on Sprint, so my knowledge of T-Mobile is limited.

Curious, what were your brother, sister in-law, etc.. speed test scores? Home for me is in a fringe LTE area and depending on where I am in my house, hspa is almost always faster than LTE. Example: at home hspa+ is 12 down 2-3 up. LTE is 2-3 down 0.5-1 up. Drive half mile down street and LTE is 70 down 15 up....
One thing of note my wife has a new S6 and her radios stay on LTE 24/7 at our house where mine switches constantly from hspa to LTE. Her speed tests at home are 15-20 down 5 up.
Are you in a "fringe" LTE coverage area?

They would get around 27 to mid 30's down both my brother and sister in-law , my mom gets around 10-15 down. my mom has the note 3, my brother new S6 and sister in-law the iPhone 6.
And to be honest I'm not sure what you mean by "fringe"
Any and every where I go I'm forced to use HSPA lol LTE isn't working right for my phone.

Not sure to be quite honest. But I know just now I tried flashing Baseband_D4.0-9625-02.95.zip that I found on a random thread and still no good service for LTE.
The radio I had flashed or had on all this time now is labeled "LMY47M-Firmware-Radio.zip"
Where do I check the radio info ?

it would be in the about phone. but you have the 95r radio, same aa me. can you try reflashing the radio then checking lte?
I just came from verizon ..it seems I never worried before. If I had even a smidge of lte the speeds were still pretty solid..T-Mobile..lte is a crap shoot.

Just reflashed it and still same results. I get around 6.00-7.00 Mbps down on hspa+ and 0.28 down on LTE with enhanced LTE clicked on and off.

The thing is, I don't think its T-Mobile. Speeds were great for me before and its fantastic on my families phones. But its my phone right now that's not getting the speeds. But I've heard Verizon has quite great speeds as well.

At first it showed same bad speeds With 4G LTE enabled and enhanced 4GLTE enabled..then it went up high as showed after I waited a bit. About same speeds as HSPA+ is giving me now. Big difference for a moment but not so different from my HSPA+ speeds. But on the next screenshots you'll see it go back down again..

It did however , weirdly...boost up my HSPA+ down speeds to 9-10-11 Mbps in my current area where I was hitting 5-6-8 Mbps before. But up stays at 0 weirdly..
