Ok. I rooted my phone installed the unofficial first version of Clockworkmod Recovery. Since then, I downloaded ROM Manager and have tried to install the official Clockworkmod Recovery. It says it installed successfully, but I can't boot into recovery from the ROM Manager app. Everything I have read says I need to uninstall the original recovery, but the instructions for how to do so have eluded me.

Can you pastebin the output of the following shell command:
ls -l /system/bin/log*
That way I can see if you have 2 hijacks installed (1 from each version of recovery).

Rom manager will install Clockworkmod Recovery, but you still need a bootstrap to actually boot into it. Best bet is to use koush's off the market (Droid 3 Bootstrap) or get it for free off his website. Or use Hashcode's tweaked version. Once one of those are installed, hit the bootstrap recovery and you should boot up to CWM recovery by either hitting reboot recovery from the bootstrap app or from Rom manager.
Hi!
I succesfully managed to update my xperia to latest firmware, root it and unlock bootloader. I used root checker to check and in service menu it says unlocked bootloader: yes
I wanted to try a miui rom so first I decided to install CWM. I found a guide to flash CWM for unlocked bootloader and flashed the boot.img to the phone.
I succesfully managed to reboot and see an orange light. Then it restarts...
When pressing volume+ or volume- when orange light I enter CWM recovery, but then I cannot do anything.
I read to format /cache but here it hangs
What should I do now?
Ok, managed to install MIUI by transfering the miui zip file to sd card and just installing it in CWM recovery. After boot all went well
I installed CWM recovery successfully, my phone's bootloader is also unlocked, but now my cwm is gone, i cannot boot into recovery mode! Any suggestions? do i need to install CWM again? will the root disappear if i do so?
Did you change your kernel?
If you reinstall cwm your root shouldn´t be gone (idk how you installed your recovery, so can´t say for shure ^^), but even if it does, it´s about 5 minuits to re-root your device via recovery

Use flash tool and flash the recovery kernel
OR
Use PhilZ touch Recovery Installer to install recovery!
If you have any 4.4.2 ROM(in zip file) go to it's zip and find boot.img
Use this boot.img file to install recovery(FLASH VIA Flashtool)
