Hi, johnw.xda...
Not quite sure of the question here... but this isn't a ROM at all... it's an OTA update for the WiFi only Nexus 7, which contains 'patches' that will update factory stock Jellybean 4.3 (build JWR66Y) to factory stock KitKat 4.4 (build KRT16O).
Other than perhaps having root access and a custom recovery installed (CWM or TWRP), you'll need to be currently running unmodified factory stock Jellybean 4.3 (build JWR66Y) to successfully avail yourself of it.
Rgrds,
Ged.

I'd make another thread with the same subject, just in case...

Please make a TWRP recovery from the OTA Update for Nexus 7 grouper and please upload...
Thx

Thanks for compiling these videos. I get my Nexus 7 on Friday and I'll check these out before doing anything....though it looks like Rooting/Flashing is easier on this device than any other device I've been on.

Nexus 4 Stock Kernel[JOP40D]

I wasn't going to upload this because I don't have the device and figured someone else would, but because I keep getting PMs about it I decided to pull it from the factory images on Google.
Thanks to neectron for making it into a flashable zip for us.
As always, if anything goes wrong I'm not responsible.
Make a full backup first (just to be safe)
1. Download Flashable Stock Kernel
2. Boot into recovery
3. Flash the kernel
4. Wipe cache and dalvik cache
5. Reboot

^This.
I can't make it as a flashable zip because I'm only on my phone. It's just so those who don't want to download the whole factory image can just get it through this.

Can someone test this flashable zip? Not sure if it'll work so do a backup first to be safe.

Flash it but my phone was stuck at the boot logo. Also running cold fusion ROM.

cold fusion is CM based, that's probably why its not booting. I was on cold fusion and flashed matrix stock based by accident and same thing happened

CM has a modified ram disk, any kernel that flashes a boot.img at this point will probably bork things. If you want to flash a kernel on a CM or CM based ROM make sure it's an "any kernel" format.

The nexus 7 never had 4.0.4
I think superuser has an option to temporarily unroot. Maybe that is enough to get that app to work. Supersu had an opt-in to disable supersu. Might also work
