Same thing happened to me. The note 3 Micro usb port is just a little deeper so the plug needs to be inserted further. Rocketfish sells an adapter with their new HDMI module. I was thinking about shaving a little more plastic off around the Micro usb connector so I didn't need the adapter but I never got around to it. If you try it let me know if it works.

I'm pretty sure Note 2 and 3 are both MHL 2.0. all I am saying is The plug needs to go in farther on Note 3 than Note 2 so you might be able to shave a little plastic off to make it go in a little farther.

I purchased a mhl adapter from best buy and it works fine for me.

We went with "android on a stick". We can beam ANYTHING to our tv wirelessly. Another app works great as a mouse\keyboard for it.
And you don't have to worry about cables no longer being compatible when you change phones.

Will it work on the GNote 2 is the question though.
I have one from the 5 pack and it works perfectly fine on my Galaxy Note 2. That being said, they should all work fine.

Why wouldn't it? Micro-usb is micro-usb.
I brought the official samsung HDMI adaptar for my s3, can anyone confirm if it works with note2? I know there were pin differences with s2 and s3 adaptors.
I have the new adaptor here. Will check shortly and let you know.
I'm pretty sure it uses the same one as the galaxy s3 as I saw a video.of.someone using.it.

as these USB-OTG cables allow you to connect USB devices to you're phone. the standard things will be a flash drive, keyboard, mouse. now about drivers in android. what else can you do with this? connect an USB-IR receiver? USB IO box?(serial) USB to RJ45? DVB-T receiver?
This would make a nice addition to the list of working cables, the functions of USB-OTG on the NOTE II!
Samsung USB-OTG cables for Galaxy Note works on Galaxy Note2 too. It doesn't seem to do the same the Samsung MHL/HDMI cable for Galaxy Note. Can someone confirm it?
I heard that Samsung MHL/HDMI cable for SGS3 works with Note2, donĀ“t know about the one with original Note.
Dirt-cheap ebay usb-microusb cables never worked for me on SGS1, only good for charging.
Good idea this thread
so I got a otg usb cable for an external hdd. and obviously it doesn't work because the hdd format is ntfs. anyone know how to make your note 2 device read ntfs external hdds?
kernel support is needed to read NTFS partitions natively. if you have root you could try the NTFS mounters for OTG available in the play store.
What HD formats does it actually read natively? Just FAT32?

So I was lucky enough to borrow one of these from Samsung over the last few days, made a video. If you have questions I don't answer in the video ask quickly, as I have to return the dock to them very soon.

This is the only device that can do simultaneous USB OTG and HDMI output, so if that is what you are after specifically, then no, there isn't a cheaper option.
Have you found any programs that restrict playback via HDMI? Like NetFlix or HBOGo?
What power output does it charge at?
I have the S3 desktop dock and even if I pug the 2A Note 2 charger and cable in, it charges real slow.
On the bottom of the unit it says it is only rated at 1A.

5V/2A, but even so charging is very slow. Just found out there are some Root-required apps that can turn the phone screen off but keep it running, so will try that with the dock shortly, should help out the charging situation a lot.
Just tested the Root-required app Screen Standby - successfully lets you turn off the phone screen but keep using it on the external monitor
Lucky guy NZ! is there any way you can test your version with an S3 attached to it? I have both phones and am very curious to see the compatibility despite some of the mixed reviews online...
...on another note, I'm not sure you can cleanly open the unit and snap some detailed photos of the boards or measure resistances put on the micro-usb line but if you can...
thanks for the review!!

I haven't tried Netflix, will try it via Tunnelbear and see how it goes. Nothing has failed to work yet.
I presume you could lie the dock on its side and it would rotate to landscape, providing your launcher supported that orientation. Balancing it would be very tricky though, I think the phone would tend to slide of the USB connection.
Lying it sideways maybe with a stoopid rubber band might be an option for me rather than a rotation app. Just an option, I guess!
Thanks again!

The reason I asked about NetFlix and HBO-Go was my old Galaxy Tab HDMI dock you couldn't watch HBO to Go via HDMI as the program blocked it. I can't recall if NetFlix did or not but I don't think it did.
Also with the old Galaxy Tab dock you could lay it sideways and it held the tab in the dock in landscape and acted as a kickstand. But the Tab had a tighter more secure looking fit than what this dock offers.

Aftermarket Dock (using POGO). Would you Kickstart?

So I am usually a lurker on XDA, but I thought I'd get the community's thoughts. I'm a fellow Nexus 7 owner and I want a dock that uses the pogo pins. I'm tired of waiting for ASUS and I also happen to be a mechanical engineer that works in the consumer electronics industry. So, I've mocked up my own design. It's similar to the ASUS design and will have USB charging and audio out. The only way I could bring it to market is Kickstarter.
Before I go through that much effort (Kickstarter has revised its approval process) I want to gauge demand. The sale price would be $30. I've made a poll below to streamline things, but feel free to add comments. Rendered concept below. I am also considering adding stereo RCA outputs as well. Would you want that?

|UPDATE 1|
Thanks everyone for the feedback! I'm still in the early design phase so feedback helps. To address the request for speakers: at this point it's not something I'm looking to add. It adds cost, development time and complexity. Depending on how well things go if I put it on Kickstarter, a speaker option may be considered. Also, now that I've seen there is some interest, I refined the design slightly to slim it up. See below:
Would adding some sort of HDMI out be too complicated or difficult?

Unfortunately, the Nexus 7 doesn't have any method of outputting an HDMI signal. In fact, the pogo pins do not allow for data, just audio and charging.

I would love to, but the pogo pins do not support USB OTG (needed for keyboards, usb drives, etc.) That would require connecting to the micro-USB port. Also, as of now, charging while using OTG is almost non-functional. It may be possible with the Nexus 10 (6 pin pogo) but not the 7.
I'd buy it if available on Europe

The simplest way I think would be to buy other cheap charger from Ebay and use EU adapter head from it. I think it should fit.

Hey, did you try buying the other charger? Did the plug fit into the original Nexus 10 charger?
You can always get something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/EU-2-Prong-...=Laptop_Adapters_Chargers&hash=item20c3edd0b3

God bless eBay lol
Im looking for the exact same thing. But i dont want a cable instead of the plug, then id rather use the flat-to-round plug converter i am now. I found out that theres a company in Taiwan called Well Shin that makes the exact plug. I have emailed them last night from my company email but havnt heard back yet.
I found on eBay something which might fit:

(Sorry about the link, new user...)
It says it's for Apple products, but it looks pretty standard to me. Does anybody know if it'll work for our nexus?
EDIT: On second thought, the base does look bigger than what would fit into the nexus adaptor. It's a shame.

Strange, because they are not exactly the same charger. The copies are made from ETA-P10X while the Nexus 10 charger is the ETA-P11JBE. For me the Euro plug doesn't really fit, it gets stuck a bit down. Maybe it will go in all the way if I push hard but I don't want to do that.

Hello,
It is made out of MDF and it does make use of the pogo pins, just charging not audio.
I have done a little more work on it to improve the shape.
After a couple of days use I have noted that if I were to do it again I would put some sort of socket for the power lead. Having it permanently attached is not so great when not charging.

also maybe some felt to line the inside of the slot ? so you get a nice slide in and out and know your safe from and pressures from the mdf on certain areas?
Wow, very impressive. I will never be able to make a dock myself.

That's nice work! Would you mind posting a view of the pins + purchase info / pinout ? I think I'd try to do something similar but out of teflon (easier to work with where I'm at with a dremel)
great job!

Its actually a bit of a hack job, I just used two pieces of stiff copper wire and glued them while it was in a charging state!. However it works perfectly. The pin closest to the bottom is + and the one nearest the top is ground and the two in the middle are audio. Worth checking on google for pinout though.
Also I built this for purposes of charging while using otg adapter only to find it doesn't work, now that is a real pain! I have read up about timurs USB kernel, which allows this although not through the pogo pins. What a design flaw on google/asus part.

cool beans. I'm looking for a dock. Not sure if I have the patience to do what you did but, it looks great regardless.

I made a Lego dock a few weeks ago too... I got given a Nexus 7 that had a broken USB connector. Lego stand, BluTack to hold some wires, and I could charge reliably for the 3 weeks it took for a replacement USB "board" to arrive.
