I dont understand why no one will help me. I asked numerous times for someone to help me in getting my internet connection setup again. I have installed Molski's last rom and now i can no longer get an internet connection. It might seem like a stupid ? to alot of people on here but i cant figure it out. And being totally ignored is pretty annoying. I have searched and cant figure out how to set it up. I have used Summiters roms in the past with no problem and now trying Molski's and Risidoro's i cant connect any more. If anyone can spare a second of there time to help out someone who is learnig it would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Please disregard my rudeness. my phone has gotten me very annoyed the last couple days and i realize the above post is no way to get help. Please read 3 posts down for more info. Thanks

Who is your Carrier? Cingular? T-Mobile? Orange?

I don't understand why you helped no one, so far. Many have asked the same question numerous times and of all the 20 posts you've got so far, which of those are answers to questions? None? Tell me why?

First of all, state your problem! What exactly is is that isn't working. Is it your GPRS connection? or are you trying to use your phone as a modem for a laptop? Are you having problems with wifi? What carrier are you using, what country? edge?
And if you actually want help, change the topic and I'd suggest that you change your first post as well.
And for the record I'd just want to say that no one is obligated to help you, ask politly next time...
Aggrivation
Ok, I have tried asking politely. Thats why i got upset and started this thread.
Hanmin.. I have not helped anyone for two reasons...no one has asked, and i dont like to just give answers if im not sure there the CORRECT answers. My 20 posts are mostly me asking questions to learn how to use this phone, if i was a master like alot of the people on this board i would gladly be of assistance...
Nomad...My problem is yes, my gprs connection, I cannot connect. It seems that Molski and Risidoro's roms dont have the settings in them already like Summiters' do. I live in the U.S. and have Cingular. My wifi works, i think, if i turn it on, it searches and finds networks, but i can never get it to connect to one. I have kinda given up on that until i can learn how to use it. Also, i know no one is obligated to help. I was just looking for someone to maybe lead me to a post where i can read and figure it out. I have searched numerous times but cannot find it on here. It seems that searching old posts is only good if you know what you are looking for exactly, otherwise pretty much every post turns up in the search results. Im sorry if ive come off impolite, its just from this phone being very aggravating. I dont have alot time to continuously keep up with the ever changing information associated with this phone. Im sure some on here would then say to not get involved with it then, but the roms that these guys put their valuable time into creating are awesome compared to what Cingular ships with. An i do appreciate that.
On another note..If someone would be interested in helping or guiding me in solving this and other issues i have with this phone so that i can become as good as some of the other fine peoples on this board i will make a generous donation. Scratch that, ill make the donation now, since i have already learned alot more than what i came to this board knowing... And once i feel more comfortable with knowledge i will most certainly help whenever possible.
Thanks all to have helped, and once again i apologize for my rudeness.
Shady
Have you tried this thread? it contains the needed settings.
Also, I know that the search function sucks. I usually use google "<topic> site:forum.xda-developers.com" it's a lot more accurate
Nomad,
Thanks, that helped alot. I actually saw that thread in my searches and somehow missed the cab. Boy talk about dumba$$...lol also, thanks for the google search info, is there anything that google isnt good for? Now if i could jsut figure out how to walk on water ill be all set =)
almost forgot, which is better, when you have the G icon by the signal level or the E. I always had the E with my other roms and i noticed that with molski's and Risidoro's its the G. I try searching , i think i remember reading about this before.

EDIT: Got it. searched google and found it out. Its a reg hack, i remebered after reading this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284970
Edge or GPRS
Basically I see no difference in performance. The "E" doesn't appear because Molski doesn't like it Some networks have edge, other don't. I'm sure that you have Edge, because of Molski not liking the letter E , you are shown an G
Hello all, I just got my captivate yesterday, and it's running 2.1 Eclair. I wish to upgrade it to FroYo. However, when I try and connect it to my computer via Kies, there is a notification on my computer's task bar stating 'A problem occurred during hardware installation. Your new hardware might now work properly', and from what I've read on these forums, it is a driver problem. I'd rather not root it the day after I got it, so any suggestions on how to get this connectivity issue cleared up is greatly appreciated.
I apologize if this question has been asked before, as I'm new here, and somewhat lacking in the 'software development area'.
Thanks for your help.
Guys please, I need dire help. D:
i think the reason why no one has replied was the fact you as asking for SGS Captivate help on the I9000 forum
moving your topic to where this should have been posted to begin with
You need to get the appropriate drivers for your computer to be able to connect to you phone.
You can get them from the samsung website.
Eh, okay guys. Got that working, no more connection error. Now Kies just cycles 'connecting to device' forever, and that's not a driver issue.
But it's a step, I suppose.
Hey everyone, I just recently got a Samsung Captivate with Rogers, which is the i896.
I've been hearing a lot about rooting lately and i'm starting to understand a little more about what it is exactly. I'm interested in the idea that it can help speed up the phone and allow for more apps, but I have a few questions.
1) Where can I find the most recent way to root a ROGERS Captivate? I was reading around and read that the "One click fix" does not work anymore
2) Will rooting my phone change the interface of the phone?
3) If something goes wrong and my phone doesn't root, can I go back to the default settings easily?
I might have more questions later on but thats it for now. I'd just also like to hear your opinions on rooting and what exactly YOU have been able to do with your phone by rooting.
Thanks!
welcome ill answer your qs first then ill give you some links to help you out
A)rooting and flashing roms (2 diff things) are easiest done from STOCK 2.1 (which you should have) if you plan on flashing custom roms DONT do the rogers/samsung keis firmware update. it changes the recovery to 3e. (ink below if needed)
B) rooting does not change the interface. ROMS DO
C) if you cant successfully root, nothing has changed. you should be able to tho. and you can UNROOT, and wipe to factory too. for warranty repairs and they will never know.
OPPINION:
custom roms are the way to go, more current, full featured complete and on time, cutomizable, fun, and brain-power using than stock roms.
MY ADVICE: DO IT but TAKE YOUR TIME AND READ. I READ FOR 3 or 4 days before i touched a thing!! and still had very minor issues and things that had to be ironed out. dont let that scare you. its a learning experience. hopefully with the links i give you you will have less SEARCHING TO DO. but you my freind, are in the right fourm and right section, too! i have a good feeling about you already!
YOU CAN DO IT WATERBOY!!!

oh and it took me forever to learn that there is an ODIN one-click, and an Odin3 1.7, both flashing programs but DIFFERENT, we can use ODIN one-click but not recomended it flashes AT&T stock back. ALSO not to be confused with one-click ROOT,,,
Typically its best to read around but you can use the following for rooting and unrooting
It doesn't change the interface

Hey there, the rogers captivate is the same as the at&t captivate. I found a rogers phone in the snow, wiped, rooted and unlocked it. Installed at&t firmware and then flashed serendipity. I'm using it on telus no problem. Everything in this captivate forum will work great.

First of all, thank you guys so much for giving me real replies instead of a bunch of "Go read for yourself" or "try the search button" lol... I've been doing some reading but I needed to ask a few direct questions.
@Trusselo, i'm not too ignorant to computers. I know my way around a computer and used to do some web design and basic coding so i'm somewhat okay.
My only concern is that once i've rooted my phone, I have to use some sort of unix/linux commands to work around my phone and do things? Is this true? Also, I read that the rooted version has a different keyboard? I still have a hard time getting used to this touchscreen board.
SIDE QUESTION ABOUT CAPTIVATE AND WIFI: This is my biggest problem right now, its actually a small problem but it gets annoying. Basically, my WiFi stays connected when i'm at home but sometimes it seems like it slows done or the connection lags or even stops working. I can usually tell if this is happening because pages don't load fast enough in the browser or don't load at all. While this is happening, my wifi connection still says "Connected" though. I always have to go back, disconnect, re-type my password, connect again. Then I go back and it works fine. Is there any way to fix this?

Just rooting the phone does not change the interface at all. Rooting just allows you access to the locked system files so you can change them.
Also you won't have to use terminal commands to do hardly anything, but it would be a good practice to learn how to use it.
From there you can change your keyboard if you like. There are a few keyboards out there that are better than the stock keyboard is, as far a functionality.
Be warned once you get onto flashing and modding your phone, its like an addiction, and you probably wont be able to stop.

Ya, but no one called the phone. The screen was locked and I couldn't get into the phone. I think it was outside for a while, reported lost and deactivated.

i really hope that you didnt think i was accusing you of not being good with computers or being patronizing, i was just trying to provide you (or anyone else that reads this) with as much info as i could, while not doing the work for you.
terminal commands: ive never had to use them, no adb shell, no terminal emulator on phone, although it wouldnt be outside of my skill, i just prefer to do it without learning something i dont need to. (yet.. still thinking about learning some apping)
keyboard: rooting does not change any part of the UI at all, all rooting does is allow you to access (read / write / copy /delete) protected system files. And you can only do those scary things with use of other root apps after rooting your phone.
wifi: this is why some people flash new modems, if you still have issues and really want to send it back for warranty, dont worry, you can have it back good as new in no time!
Not too sure what you mean by flash new modems... ? And I wasn't accusing you of anything lol. Just letting you know that i'm not 100% dumb when it comes to computer but even then I don't know if I would be ready to use typed commands and stuff to use my phone.

The modem is simply what the phone uses for connectivity. It is a separate piece of the firmware that can be flashed on its own. It is a topic that is a little beyond the scope of this post. However, there is a stickied thread in the Captivate development forum called 'the modem thread' that outlines a lot of the information. The main reason many people do this change is that some experience better connectivity, lower battery consumption, and some other benefits. Again modems are beyond the scope of this post, so I encourage you to read that sticky, as there can be some pitfalls to changing modems. Best of luck and enjoy the great phone!
Oh okay thank you. I thought you meant I would have to take my phone back and get a new one. The WiFi works fine, its just that I have to disconnect, enter my wifi password, then reconnect sometimes for it to work properly.
Do you mean that the WiFi is something that can be changed after the phone is rooted to work better?
Can't say for sure, but it's always worth rooting anyway.

Several months ago I installed CM10 on my Nook HD+ and for the most part everything runs perfectly.
However in mid March I installed a Cyanogen update and very soon after I noticed many of my apps (all downloaded from Amazons app of the day) would not run, giving me the following error:
Internal Service Error: An internal error occurred. This can be caused by a lack of network connectivity, please make sure you have a good network connection.
At the time, I Googled and tried the suggestions I found (although the suggestions were all for other devices such as Kindle Fire). I checked the time and date were correct, deregistered and reregistered my device and tried rebooting.
And that seemed to fix the issue, although I concede I havent been using the Nook much lately.
Tonight I went to use my Nook to play a few games and the problem is back and its even worse now. I now cannot play any of my games, even ones I have played numerous times before without any wifi turned on. We dont have wifi at home, I tether my phone when I want to use the internet on my Nook. I do know there are some games that require internet access, however the vast majority of mine dont, which I know for a fact as I've played them so often with no internet.
So, why all of a sudden, does everything need wifi? How can I fix this? Is it just coincidence the problem occurred immediately after a system update, and if it could be the update that caused it, how can I find out which update it was and can it be uninstalled?
The instances of this I found mentioned online mainly referred to it happening to just one app, and some people found uninstalling and reinstalling the app fixed the issue. But I have close to 200 apps all doing this.
Since I mainly use the Nook for playing these games, its useless to me as it is now and if I cant fix this issue I wont have any choice but to remove the Mod and return it to stock software, which I really dont want to have to do.
Please can someone help me with this, in basic, non-technical language please?
Thank you.
Hello?
Please, does anyone have any input on this problem? Have I asked in the wrong forum?
I asked about this in another forum and it was suggested that maybe the update made my Nook appear like a new device to Amazon and that the error message is the games wanting to confirm with Amazon that the license to run the game was correct (or something along those lines).
I have just tried uninstalling and reinstalling a couple of games and now they work so it would appear that suggestion is exactly what has happened. So I guess I now have to uninstall and redownload all those 200+ apps and games, which is going to be a nightmare with no internet at home.
And if updates cause the device to appear different, then how do I know this wont keep happening with future updates? I am not going to keep reinstalling every thing, so do I just turn updates off instead? That doesnt seem like a very wise idea.
I would really appreciate some help with this please, or even just to be pointed in the right direction if I should be asking elsewhere.
Thank you.
Well I guess no one has any advise or help of any kind to offer. I will post this update in case anyone else has the same issue.
I ended up having to uninstall and redownload every one of my apps, and now they all work fine again, so I can only assume the suggestion I received on a different forum that the update made my device appear as a new device, meaning the internet was needed for the apps to check licenses with Amazon was correct.
With this in mind, I would now never recommend the Cyanogen mod to any one else. Whats the point if updates are going to screw everything like this? I have now turned off the updates, which I would normally never do. When my Nook gets to the stage of having to have updates I will uninstall Cyanogen and just go back to using a stock Nook.
Its a shame as I have been very happy with it up until all this happened but since there is no back up or support from anyone when things go wrong, its simply not worth the hassle.

I found some useful thoughts here:

Hello everyone, I just acquired this cell phone, my problem is when playing via wifi it throws me some ping ups which makes it unplayable. when I switch to using mobile data this doesn't happen.
I emphasize that I already tried this on another cell phone at the same time and it does not happen, only on my V40 and I don't understand why.
If someone had the solution I would be very grateful.
P.S. I already did the factory reset and the problem persists
I see this too.
It's an additional part of my problem I'm looking for a solution for in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v40/help/lg-v40-start-to-connect-to-cell-wifi-t4160391
Hope to see an answer for us. I'm betting they're somehow connected through the system not being able to decide what service to connect to ... and maybe in that answer will be a "why" and "solutions".
