[Q] "(Status 7) Installation aborted" when trying 2.3.4 via ClockworkMod. Help!
Hi, I have stock 2.3.3 rooted, with a compatible overclock kernel, and radio 5.08. When I try to run the 2.3.4 update from within ClockworkMod recovery, I get:
Code:
Verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check("MTD:boot:2373632: ... <snip> ...")
E: Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
Please tell me what to do to avoid this and install the 2.3.4 update successfully?

It appears to mean that the test it's doing to determine if you're running a valid 2.3.3 installation is failing.
Probably because it can't find a file on your current setup that it is looking for.
You may get more info from the recovery.log (adb pull /tmp/recovery.log)
Or you may have to reinstall your 2.3.3 ROM (assuming it is complete) and repatch.
hey guys for some reason i had to unroot so i followed the steps given in the forum ....now that i found out that there's new cool rom i want flash but when i click on apply sd : update.zip.....i've got a milestone

E:failed to open /sd/update.zip(no such file or directory )

Are u sure that there is a update.zip file on your sdcard?
If not,u'd better to figure it out in the bandboard'Motorola Milestone Android Development'.
This is a duplication and is already solved.
To Abu3792: Please edit this post and mark it as solved, thanks.
And what was the solution ?
I suppose you forgave to flash the vulnerable recovery.
Hi All,
I am trying to root my motorola milestone A853 using OpenRecovery as instructed on a different site.
My final aim is to get CM7 on my phone.
While i am trying to take a Nandroid backup before i root the phone, the step always stucks at "System: Dumping......."
I am waiting for 15 mins at this step before i plug out the battery. The SD card has enough space (More than 5 GB) and was recently formatted so i am not sure what else to do to make this work. Please help me with a work around.
Also, i was thinking of installing Clockware recovery instead of OpenRecovery and i am not sure how to install CM7 henceforth. esponse Greatly appriciated!

Try super one click. Or some other popular one. Just boot into clockwork and select install from sd. From the there flash rom.
Thank You!
Thanks!
I factory reset my phone first and then tried again and it worked!...I am on CM 7.2.2 now and it works wonderfully. Although i am having a small uber-silly problem now.
I know i say a "Font Size" option somewhere in settings but i cant find it now (looking for it for 30 mins... ). Someone please guide me?
Thanks again!
In CM10 the font size setting are under Interface/System.
I know you're asking about CM7, but it might help a little bit.

Clockware recovery?
CWM (Clockwork Mod recovery) is not compatible with A853. Try this one here. Read the thread, use the latest one. Btw., OpenRecovery is simply great recovery and by far the best one I've seen, no touch interface or similar trendy features can replace the fact we have access to shell (Console) directly from device without need for a computer and a cable (hardware keyboard helps ).
It could also help with stuck nandroid backups, you really shouldn't need to wipe data before backup because that kills (partially) the puprose of nandroid backups.

What? You have flashed vuln. recovery?
Read here: http://android.doshaska.net/rootable
You need to boot directly to recovery after RSD flashes recovery sbf. Must not permit the system to boot to android. Read the above thread to the letter. There are 2 listed ways how to disable stock recovery.

I have 3 zip files cm10, open recovery, update
The zip file, you want to install, must be in your sd-card's OpenRecovery/update folder.
Ok, steps taken so far include:
- Rooting device with Zerg through SuperOneClick
- Flashing Device with ClockwordMod Recovery
- Rebooting into Recovery Mode,
- Wipe Cache etc
- Install Update from SD
- Get to 25%, and get signature unable to be verified.
This happened with CM 10.1 20130429 Nightly, Xylon 20130412, And a few others which I have deleted the files from my computer so unable to remember names/versions.
I am unable to use Odin to flash the kernal, as Odin will only read .tar, and all downloads come out as .zip. Attempting to convert them to TAR fails as well.
Using Clockwork Mod Recovery isn't working either to reboot and install, as it has the same issue of unsigned files.

OK, managed to get it fixed by downloading Dark's recovery kit, I was then able to flash everything upto how I wanted it. So now running 4.2.2 on my GT-I9000T =D
Can you please explain what you're trying to do exactly?

I'm currently on Oreo firmware OPSS27.104-92-4 and I'm trying to flash the Pie upgrade found here: https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/ali/official/RETUS/
I've tried to give Motorola Update Services storage permission and place the downloaded .zip file into the root directory of internal storage but it's not finding the update. I've also tried to ADB sideload but I get an error.
ADB error:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...

Update package verification took 0.0 s (result 1).
E: Signature verification failed

Do I need to downgrade to a previous version?

That's not an update zip. It's a full firmware package.
Fastboot.
Or use RSDlite
Or use "XML to batch" to create a batch script to flash it for you
