Alright so I have 2 issues, 1 my signal is pretty bad, I should have booming full signal, and I only have 1-2 bars. 2 the speakers are not very loud, they sound great they just aren't very loud like everyone is saying. Now could this be an effect of the 4.3 update? Because I noticed that in all the videos where everyone says its loud, they weren't on 4.3.

I could be remembering things incorrectly, but from what I heard 4.3 doesn't represent LTE reception correctly when it comes to signal bars. You could check this by googling the proper signal strength ranges against your rated signal strength in Settings > About.
The speakers were always pretty loud, 4.3 didn't seem to change that. However, remember that beats is quieter on the speakers but sounds cleaner (**** y'all who say it's just an equalizer - even if it is, it sounds good through the phone's dual speakers). Usually if you turn off beats, the speakers are louder, and flatter.

I looked at the signal and it said -105 dbm, that's not very good, right? I think my 4G sim card is bad. I believe that it is causing my phone to strive for more signal because while it was plugged up (even with a 2 amp charger) It stopped charging and was really hot while I was using it. I tried taking it out, restarting the phone, and it still didn't get any better signal. even when it is unplugged it still gets hot. i used the madaco toolkit to get rid of the high volume warning, and the speakers seemed twice as loud. Thanks for the reply.

Actually, -105 is LTE and that's a reasonably decent signal. Could be better, but it isn't terrible. I don't know where you live, and what kind of LTE signal you are used to. As far as heat is concerned, it shouldn't get hot for any reason. Warm while you are playing a game or watching a film(I watch Blu-ray on mine), sure, but not hot. Shouldn't get hot while charging either, unless you are using it at the same time, and then it shouldn't be more than warm. Maybe you should go back to stock before 4.3 and test all of your functions.

I have a tower right next to my house, I got full bars of lte on my last phone. I was on stock, and had the same issues. Right now as I'm typing this on my phone the battery is slowly discharging, and it's kinda warm. I'm not doing anything else on it.
Yeah, 3G in the same spot gets much better signal, 5/6 the same that I used to get with 4G , any way I can detect and see if it is my SIM card?
Question, if I were to downgrade to the previous update (4.2) will it fix this issue?

Stock 4.2? Are you using a verizon One?
I have a Sprint one. when it was on 4.1.2 My LTE and signal bars were at 4 bars.
When i did the OTA for 4.3 it always stays at a measly bar or 2.
Id give it a shot.

This is a rather odd problem im having with my tilt, and was wondering if its just me. Whenever my phone gets a signal, if its within 3 feet of ANY speaker, off or on, the speaker goes crazy! Its the same pattern of tones, sort of like a fax machine handshake. I wear my headphones alot, and can tell when I am getting a call even before my screen turns on, and its rather loud. So, now when I wear my headphones, I need to place it about 3 feet away from me, and the headphone cable. Also, the phone dials up about every 10-15 mins, even when sleeping. I can hear this also. Its also not limited to headphones, but any speaker. I had the phone resting on my alarm clock, and the speaker went crazy when my wife called!!!
This sort of magnetic interference is insane, and frankly not tolerable. I have an ATT Tilt and tried a few different radio's in diff ROM's.
Very common. If you take the cell phone near to a CRT computer monitor (not LCD) right before a call / text, the screen will also show you lines.
My all phones did the same. I bought this AT&T Tilt phone running stock WM6.1 and until I flashed a cooked ROM on it, it did NOT give me these sounds through my speakers and I was amused!
The day I flashed it with a cooked ROM (and obviously a new radio / different radio) the sounds came back. This is purely electrical interference. The only solution is to keep your cell phone away from your speakers if you do not want to add additional shielding to your speakers or buy a different / better phone.
More information? Google it and you will find a lot of information on this issue.
Thanks for the info. I have had a few handsets b4, but nothing as big and complex as the tilt (Razor and cheap clamshell) and none of them gave me the problem im dealing with now. Its rather crazy to think that such a small device is putting out so much magnetic interference!
RF exposure anyone? i've noticed that my tilt causes a lot of interference even when at a distance. I'm getting rid of it as soon as I can.
This used to happen to me, then AT&T upgraded the network in my area to 3G. The band that 3G operates on is different than that of the Edge or 2G networks. I could never have my phone within 6 feet of my computer at work due to the loud noise. Now, It charges right next to the speakers all day with no problems. Hope that helps.
I have a chance to pick one of these up but i need a good GPS and loud sdeaker and speakerphone.....does this have both?
Thanks
The GPS works good. Acquires signal fast and mine has never lost its signal. You do have to download Google maps which is not a big deal. To me the speaker is not very loud. My og droids was much louder. Hope this helps.

GPS works better than the Thunderbolt or Droid Charge. We've had both in our household. It locks in quickly, maybe once in a while I have to reopen Maps to get it to lock. Probably wont be as good as Motorola phones, those are the absolute best in getting GPS locks quickly, from my experience.
Speaker is solid. Not super loud, but not too shabby either.
Yes, this device locks on so much quicker than my Droid Charge. Also, if you use GPS Status on this phone, I've noticed it locks in with great accuracy. Around 2meters.
If you want even faster GPS locks and you are rooted, download "Faster Fix", and change your server to supl.google.com (no www). After that, reboot your device.
Thanks for all the input!!!

Not only is the speaker not loud enough, the output on the headphone jack is not loud enough either.
i will agree that the output on the headphone jack isn't all that great.
My old charge with voodoo sound is way better lol
Hey guys, I've noticed a weird bug with stock 4.2.1 on my Nexus 4, and was wondering if anyone is experiencing the same thing. If not, then perhaps it is the hardware and not the software, but the nature of this bug has lead me to believe it is software-related.
Let me first say, right off the bat, that I have had no other issues with my phone, and that when I play games or watch movies, the volume is loud, clear, crisp--just all around excellent. However, when I use the speakerphone on a call, it seems to be... quieter than everything else. So I tried playing around with it, and discovered something interesting.
The next time you're in a call, put it on speakerphone. Note how loud it sounds to you. Then, turn the volume down one notch, and then put it back up to the max volume again (I've only experimented with it being at max already, then turning it down one notch, and then back up).
Does it sound WAY louder? And does it sound distorted, almost overblown? Why would it be like that during a call, and why would adjusting the volume down and then back up again have such a result if it was NOT software related? And, furthermore, why would it be blown out and distorted here where as for everything else it sounds superb?
Let me know your thoughts--maybe I need to RMA? I got this one at T-Mobile (I didn't have to pay the equipment installment due to my current plan, so it was cheaper to buy it @ $200 from them).
Thanks!
Same Here .. I believed it was the only with this problem since no one had said.
I think is Software Issue.
Yeah I noticed that no one had mentioned this, but I believe if it's software then it must be affecting everyone. At least, it should be affecting stock users. I guess I noticed this sooner because I use speaker phone when I'm driving in the car, since my ragtag bluetooth receiver that outputs through a tape that's plugged into it and inserted into the tape deck only transmits music and notifications, not calls--for some reason--over the car speakers. Just got sick of plugging into the phones headphone jack every time I got in and out of the car! lol

See but mine doesn't crackle or do any of that stuff during calls or anything else. And it's not blown out sounding during anything other than calls where I have lowered the volume and then put it back up to max right after. I don't think the problem is the same as it is here, it just seems similar, for sure.
Also, when not on speaker phone, the in call volume is perfect and without issue. It's limited to specifically what I mentioned in the original post.
Thanks for the reply, but I'm talking about it being overtly loud and only being so when adjusting the volume down and back up to max, and that prior to that, the volume is just a bit on the quiet side at the maximum. Not crackling/popping/etc!
cool..sorry about that.
Exact same situation with me.little buzz while on call nothing else.

No problem! Appreciate the attempted help =]
Is anyone here hearing a low hiss/crackle type noise when on phone calls. Almost like the speaker is a little blown out?
This is not noticeable when listening to music etc; only on phone calls.
I'm not sure how common this is or if I should get it swapped out. Though swapping it probably carries the risk of acquiring the other pop/crackle speaker issue
Thanks for any input.

I heard them also.. But seems very commond and seems that 4.2.2 solve all these audio issue ( havent tried myself but read on topics)
I am also having the same issue. I am having this problem on some sim cards(2G). As one of my sim card doesn't cause this problem which is a 3G sim. Though it should not have any problem due to sim cards or network, this problem surely doesn't occur in my 3G sim. Wierd problem!
Me too

I hear a crackle type noise (occasionally) when I'm on calls. It's not continuous. Occurs randomly. It only lasts for a fraction of a second though. is this what you're talking about??

I believe there are different things experienced by different guys. I've read many topics about various sounds.
There is a sound like a speaker does when you listen to music and it stops. It happens after you listen to something (like Beat gets turned off). Like a hissing maybe? I can't descibe it better. It's like the speaker is on high volume and then stops. It lasts for a brief moment and you can hear it if you are near the phone and there is relative silence.
There are also some "pop" sounds sometimes. These sounds sometimes happen when you listen to music.
And there is something else, in my case when talking on the phone there is something like a crackle sometimes when the other person is speaking. It doesn't happen all the time. At first I thought it was because of bad signal but I don't think it's true.
whenever I place a call; I can hear a small faint noise 'sssssss..' from the earpiece speaker. this happens when in calls and when I run the earpiece speaker diagnosis test.
when the speaker is off; there is utter silence.
I've had the phone with me for 7 days already and today is the first time I noticed. I dropped the phone at a small height into a tiled floor (but with a case on) and there wasn't any damages or scratches.
I already updated to the latest 23.0.1.A.5.77 but the same issue persists
I checked the bottom speaker and it has the same problem.
Is everyone else's phone ok?
False alarm! the sound was gone when I went outside my room and house. Looks like there are just a lot of signal disturbance inside.

What has the earphone test have with signal disturbances? As long you are not near some pretty heavy magnets, speakers, microwaves running, the earphone test should be irrelevant to the signal quality inside the house.
I would say you just don't hear it outside.
Let's say the average sound level outside is about 60db or above where as inside its 30-40db.
It is pretty logical that you wont hear it outside, doesn't meant its not there.
Best if you wanna proof your signal disturbance theory, go outside in the late night, 2am or so, when outside is almost as calm as inside and test it again.
Sorry for revival an older thread, but there is not many ppl out there caring, or hearing, or noticing the static noise by themselves.
Also test your Microphones via the service menu if you could.

Hi Pagot,
Annnnd you are correct; I'm in a different quite room now (office) and I'am still able to hear the hssss sound when on a call on the ear speaker.
The built-in 'ear speaker' test that plays the ringtone has the same problem. Although if i play the same test and used the sony headset (that came with the phone) I don't hear the hss sound; it is crystal clear.
seems like the problem is definitely with the phone ear speaker... aw... I'll just have to ignore it or use a headset.
the microphones are working fine.
Thank you for your concern on the matter.
