Kit kat wakelock/google - Nexus 4 General

I don't know if this has been mentioned at all. Maybe I'm on to something maybe I'm not. But I see a lot of posts about Google services wakelocks as well as checkin services wake locks. I have unfortunately seen it myself. I searched around a little and found something. Don't know if its the problem but go under app privacy in settings. Check the Google services as well as android system there is an option to turn off location. Seemed weird to me. I have everything else off as well as app syncing. So I'm gonna give this a try

Yeah it seems like such a pointless addition. But you can try freezing with TB or something.

Any reason you need to remove it? It looks like it's just making the Google settings more open and easier to access.

For those of you who prefer not to be sheep going to slaughter.
I unistalled google play services and that removed it from the phone. Not sure what else will be affected but I am still able to download/install apps from play store. I figure I may miss the next version of play store that comes out. Better than them sneaking stuff in. You may find the actual apk inside the google play directories. Please post if you do.
Also if anyone has ever figured out how to disable E911. If you dont want to disable yours that fine. STFU because your input is not needed ok. I dont want it on, period!!!
For the rest go ahead and follow the heard. [sheep noises....lol] !

Google Play Store and Goggle Play Services are not related. But it was a clever move with the names.
Google Play Services are the core to a host of future functions, especially to apps relating to social contacts, location related services and in particular (paid) games playing. Also, as many have detected already, with the 3. party sign-in control Google is able to watch and possibly control to whom and how you have contact with.
If you de-install Google Services, it will be auto re-installed in shortest time again in the backgound. If you happen to be on mobile data at that time, the bill is on you. If you disable or freeze Google Play Services, it will not be auto re-enabled. At least not as of now. But some functions of the phone and some Google apps like Hangout are made dependant on Goggle Play Services. So there function will cease.
More and more people are disgruntled about the way Google is doing things now. It is absolutely Googles own thing what apps they want to develop, and what functions they want to implement. But shoving down apps onto my property without my consent is not acceptable to me.
The people are not sheeps bcs they are forced to have things installed things they don't fully understand. I believe that many simply don't think twice, if something is (superficially) free, The strategies of companies like Goggle build on that fact.
Yep, it reinstalled. I will freeze it. But the sheep are the people that say one should accept it, or come back with tin foil comments etc. Those are sheep. I agree why force it on people? Esp from software the is supposed to be opensource. As one person posted somewhere it also redundant.
I know what you mean and I share your resentments. Albeit I fear there is nothing much we can do.
Google makes more and more Android functions depend on Google Play Service being on, and up to date. Just recently I registered that Calendar synchronisation now does not work with this "Services" disabled.
Unless someone makes a hacked version of that skunk.

[Q] Location detecting error !!

Hi people !
Since few hours ago I get a error in google maps which says please enable a location services in the setting. It used to be fine before that.
The wireless option is checked, gps is off as always. Also the option for accessing is on in accounts and services. All other apps are also having problem finding my location while connected to a wireless network/LTE/3G.
I googled every where and couldn't find a solution.
I uninstalled/erased user data/restarted google maps and also turned off and on my phone, still no help.
Any solution to this ? Thank You !!

Unfortunately no solution, but I can report the same problem.
After trying everything without success, I did a factory reset. Now Google maps location via network is working again, but other services still have problems, such as news&weather, browser location etc.
I guess there was a bug introduced with some of the new Google apps...
Gesendet von meinem HTC One mit Tapatalk 2
Thank you for your response.
So even no luck after the factory reset ? Then I guess the best solution is to contact Google directly and report the porblem.
I think I got this problem after updating google search
Anyone else having this problem or has a solution to it ?
I am also having this problem. Just started today. I updated some Google apps recently too.
I've tried everything but a factory reset but still no luck. If it's a bug I hope they release an update soon

Same problem here in Canada. I wonder it is related to the roll out of their new Google location services : http://mashable.com/2013/05/15/google-location-services/
Same problem here since a few days! Hoping for a fix soon.
So I guess it's a common problem.
When I turn on my GPS instantly, even indoors, maps finds my location right away. I guess it's probably a small bug.
İ have same issue too. Last night have had taken some pics.all have sattelite info . But this morning get some pics doesnt have any info.
By the way facebook doesnt shows location info on my posts.
Neighter instagram so on. .from turkey
---------- Post added at 11:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:47 PM ----------
When I turn on GPS pics can have coordinats even there is no GPS signal.
It's an issue caused by the latest Google search update. I have the same issue on my phone. Beautiful widgets is draining my battery because it can't find a location. Really frustrating.
how strange, i did not make any update.
Same problem here with my htc one. After going back to factory settings it worked fine for a couple of days. But now the troubles are back again. Really frustrating. I can imagine it has something to do with an update of Google search. It was updated May15th. Approximately then the trouble started. Come on google!

Hi everyone,
Couldn't see an update on this anywhere so thought I would share this with you as I've come across this post which is some good news saying this location problem is fixed:
http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/mobile/LEPcl9e3dYE[1-25-false]
Hi folks,
Thanks for your help and patience while we investigated your reports.
We've determined that for some users running Android 4.1, the latest update to Google Play services caused Google's location service to stop working in some cases.
For those specific users where Google's location service wasn’t working correctly, we pushed an update which fixes this.
To get the update:
1. Open the Play Store app (version 4.1.10) on your device
2. Restart your device after 1-2 minutes
To verify that the fix has worked, you can open Google Earth, which should give a location fix after you restart the device.
Note:
- Your device will need an active network connection in order for these steps to work.
- You may have to wait a couple of days to receive version 4.1.10 of the Play Store app.
- To check your version of the Play Store app: Open the Play Store app. Touch Menu (three dots at the top), then select Settings. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen to see your 'Build version.

My ONe still hasn't received the Play store update to 4.1.10, but at least they have found the problem and hopefully in a couple of days our devices should be working again

[Q] Any workaround for Google play services battery bug?

Hey guys,
Is there any known effective workaround for the battery drain issue on 4.4 with google play services?
I have installed the newly released Google play services 5.0 but this is still an issue and causes the phone to get VERY hot during charging

Cleared cache and so far seems to be working with v5.0! Thank you!
This is actually something I was trying to find a work around today.
Mind linking me the Play Services 5.0 you're using? I'd really like to try this.

Thanks for that. Gave it a go, got a result similar to the thread maker's. Was a dream come true, really.
Then it came back again. Didn't do anything different, just eventually came back into play on next reboot.
Uninstalled updates from Play Services entirely and rebooted, got the same effect. I don't think it's 5.0 fixing it, just the other play(s) causing it. Still running as 'uninstall updates' version (whatever it is-- lemme check... 4.0.33) and I've not had an issue with it coming back on. If it doesn't last then I have no clue how to fix this.
Sorry to be a pest and bump / double post.
But I havn't had it come back since I did an 'Uninstall Updates' from Settings > Apps > All
I don't know why this would be so darned weird... But for anyone who hasn't tried it... I guess, sadly try it - and the link that Androidtweaker gave.
When I installed the Play Store that Androidtweaker linked, I did nothing but play games for like 2 hours on my phone - No issues. Kept playing, 4 hours later popped back up. I play Puzzles & Dragon's and link it to my Google+, so I thought they might have triggered all the play services since it is Google Games.
However I uninstalled updates and now it's the 1st of July where I am (3 days later), with Uninstall Updates and playing P&D with G+, I don't have any Play Service Issues.
Sorry I couldn't be of help to anyone who comes to this thread via google searching. Perhaps installing the latest Play Store then deleting cache/dalvik helped cut out some issue hidden within somewhere?...
In settings/location, set to device only. Its google location reporting causing the issue. Setting it to device only utilises just GPS for location.

The only way to solve it is by disabling google play services (and enabling them only when you need them) or rooting your phone, installing an app like "Disable Service" and disabling some stuff under google play services and google services framework...but you could still get ocassional wakelocks here n there. This is how I do it.
If you still get EventLog wakelock, try enabling EventLog in both google services and google framework instead of disabling them. Just use Wakelock detector to see what is causing wakelocks and try disabling or enabling those services with the app I mentioned before. Let me know if it helps

NP, let me know if it helped. I'm still fighting with the wakelocks sometimes, but it' much better than it was...you just have to play with the settings and try out different options. There's also some threads on xda about which services to disable so definitely check those out.
There's also an app called "System tuner" which also lets you disable certain recievers if the "Disable Service" doesn't help.

Ice box

I've recently been using an app called ice box. I removed greenify and wakelocks. Been using this app solo with great success. Letting my Nexus 6 homies know about it.

Give it a try, let me know what you think. Hit thanks
personally its far too simple, there are more advanced tools out there if you have root.
Simple is not a bad thing if it does everything a more complex app does.
I use this functionality in Titanium Backup. It can deal with system apps in several ways

I agree 100%
I've tried Servicely, Amplify, Greenify, and Boot Manager (the last three with Xposed integration) and have removed all of them.
Ice Box beats them all hands down in ease of setup, ease of use and, most importantly, it actually keeps unruly apps from restarting themselves.
Somehow they would always spring back up when using Greenify and the others and I would always see them in the "Battery" screen as have used some % of my battery even though they weren't used.
:good::good::good: for Ice Box!
Give it a try, the free version can deal with 15 apps and is definitely worth a look.
I used icebox for a while too and thought it was the solution to all my life's problems but had to find a different solution after I realized that app keeps a constant connection to some mysterious address in China and sends data each time anything happens on your phone

Is that really happens? What's your source? I can't find anything on Google regarding this...
AFWall logs, NetworkConnections app, traceroute, google play store developer info. Trust me. I wouldn't say anything if it wasn't true. I really...really liked the app. It may be nothing but app analytics but I could never get the dev to reply and the address provided on google play appeared to be bogus when I looked for it in Maps...which I did report to google along with my firewall logs. Maybe its fixed. I get that developers make better results when they get feedback but I don't like unnecessary connections especially ones without an off switch. The amount of data sent appeared to be miniscule but very constant even when the app wasn't in use. I end up making my own using Everywhere Launcher + Secure Settings + Macrodroid. Secure Settings does the same thing but appears to be abandoned and the licencing used for it doesn't seem to be affected by being blocked from the internet.
How do I see which apps are always running? Im afraid that I'll freeze a app and it'll break my phone lol..
