A friend of mine has this old GT P1000N. He got it used. The thing could never hold any configuration, he would make changes and they would revert after a few hours or so. So he decided to flash it.
He is mostly an apple user, so Android is not something he knows about. He followed this guide:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iI79j97R4qw
And basically bricked the tablet. Then, he gave it to me, to see if I can save it. So, here we are:
I found out that P1000N is not the same as P1000.
I downloaded the latest stock rom from sam mobile (2.3.6) and using Odin I actually made it boot again.
BUT, right after the flash, the first boot says something like:
"E:Can`t open directory `/preload/app/`. (No such file or directory) copy application failed"
Then, wen the OS starts, I get something about system UIDS being inconsistent, and then every damn app starts showing an alert about missing files.
I tried flashing again using the extracted pit file from the stock rom. Checking the repartition option.
Flashed it using the dbdata.
And in the end, the same errors appear again.
I don't want the latest custom rom, or the leaked fw. I just want it to work like it would normally do.
Anyone can help with a simple updated guide?
Thanks a lot!

when he first saw how the changes never hold, that is a sign of failing NAND chip.
The internal storage is stuffed.
The only option to salvage this is by following the threads on external sd only or damaged internal sd.
I have never done it myself and hope I will never have to.

I've followed the details on making a gold card (thanks Viper) and used HxD to write the goldcard to my SD card.
When i boot up the phone, it recognises the DREAIMG.NBH (RC7) file, but says "Main version is older!" update failed.
I've searched the forums(&google) for this and its come up a few times, but i can't see any solution.
Apologies if it is somewhere obvious and i'm simply missing it

Yup, when i use the 1 click root app, the back up fails and the flash option is greyed out... bear in mind the phone is stock and not even rooted yet...
P.S. Thanks Pilot & apols... couldnt find my post either! :S
Hi - I bought an unlocked UK G-Tab which I think was P1000XWJJ7. Samsung Keis said there were no updates but when I looked at samfirmware.com it seemed my firmware was produced in October 2010 and there was a European firmware P1000XWJMK from Feb 22 2011. Must be better I thought! Anyway I used the Eur Pid file and the P1000XWJMK files with Odin 1.7 and it was all going fine until I hit a fail message about movinand.mst. Try as I might it won't work. So I downloaded the JJ7 firmware again (this was not as 3 seperate files, but one tar file) but try as I might it keeps failing to flash. I've tried various pit files but none seem to work.
Can anyone help me get back to the default UK unlocked rom?!
Your ROM is bootloader locked which prevents downgrading. There is a patch for that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888071 (READ WHOLE THREAD AND DISCLAIMER).
Thanks for the advice but I don't think I've managed to end up with a locked bootloader. I can flash several different ROMS but after each one succeeds I get stuck on the "Samsung Galaxt Tab" screen that comes up on reboot. I can't seem to get into recovery mode.
Another quick question - if a firmware file from samfirmware.com only has one tar file, is that the PDS, PHONE and CSC all bundled together, or just one of them? Sorry I am a noob!
I updated my SGS using Kies to 2.2.1. I have not rooted the phone or made any other changes to the firmware before this. After the update, my back key randomly seems to have gotten "stuck" and pressing the home key snapped a screenshot. This was bad enough. Now, both softkeys have stopped working, although the home button seems to work fine. I have done every reset on the phone that I can find, but still no help. Of course, I am still running 2.2.1. I can't think of any other cause for the problem except the update. Has anyone else had or heard of this and does anyone know of a fix?

Phone I9000TUBJP9
CSC I9000TUUBJP9
Build Info 2011.01
Sent from my Laptop 'cause the **** phone won't work right.
I have had this problem before. What I had to do to fix it, was flash a 2.1 rom with Odin.
If you don't want to go that route, check in Kies somewhere in the tools tab for an emergency firmware recovery. Hook the phone up and see if that will fix your issue.
Have you factory reset your phone?
I have already tried the factory data reset and the factory format. Nothing from either of those options. I tried the Kies emergency recovery and it is asking me for a code that I have no idea where to get...
I am downloading the files now to try the Odin flash...I guess we'll see how that works.
The next logical question would be why did this happen? Will I be able to update to Froyo? Or is this gonna happen again the next time I try to do an official update?
It could just be a buggy flash. I really don't know the answer to that.
If your 2.1 rom has 3 files, flash with a 512 pit and re-partition.
If 1 file, no pit no re-partition.
Yes, you will be able to upgrade to Froyo afterwards.
Not sure what happened, but something didn't work right.
After the first flash, all appeared to be well, but when I tried to swipe the screen to unlock it, nothing happened.
So I tried it again. Now, there is an eight sided star type thing that keeps flashing on the screen. If I disconnect the USB cable, the Samsung screen keeps flashing. I can't get ADB or Odin to recognize anything.
Any ideas?
PHEW! Using the button combinations I was able to get back into download mode and I am currently flashing again. The most surprising thing is that the button combination trick didn't work before. Hopefully it will work this time.
Damn! So much for that. Even after flashing again, everything just keeps flashing. I would greatly appreciate any help or ideas that anyone might have.
Alright, final update for the night. I finally got it flashed, and its now flashed to
2.1-update1
I9000XXJG1
Kernel 2.6.29
ECLAIR.XWJG5
PDA I9000XWJG5
Phone I9000XXJG1
CSC I9000OXXJG4
At some point I might try to do the Froyo update again.
Now the bad news...soft keys still not working. Any other thoughts on what could cause them not to work?
The firmware that you have just successfuly flashed, was it 3 files or just 1?
Have you tried to update and touch key drivers previously?
I updated with a 3 file which I found at samfirmware.com. It's currently the only thing I could get to work. I believe that it is what I had before the Froyo update. And I seem to have all functionality except the softkeys.
I haven't done any other updates since or any driver updates. I didn't even know there were any.
Did you use a 512 pit and re-partition?
I had this problem before once, and I flashed this firmware and it resolved the issue. It's up to you if you want to try it. It is an Australian 2.1 firmware.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=45UEDN35
If you want to give it a try, use a 512 pit and re-partition.
Alright, I downloaded your files, but when I tried to unzip the files, I keep getting an error the the files are corrupt. Not sure what is going on there.
I am a dumba$$. I just realized that my wife has the EXACT same phone as me. We got them at the same time, so all the original information is the same. What I need is:
GT-I9000T
2.1-update1
Baseband Version I9000TUBJG7
Kernel version 2.6.29 [email protected] #2
Build number ECLAIR.UBJG5
PDA I9000TUBJG5

CSC I9000TUUBJG4
Is there anywhere that I can get this firmware? Is there anyway to make a backup copy from my wife's phone that I can just install on mine? I do not have root access on here phone, and after all the trouble I'm having with mine, I don't think that she'll let me, so hopefully there would be a way to do it without it.
Hey man,
I did a little searching for you, but could not find that exact firmware. I did find this, and it should work.
Here's the thread.

Here's the download

Edit: I did read through this thread a bit, and it seems that this rom may disable 3 button recovery. If that's the case, I would still flash this to get your softkeys working again. Make sure to flash the 3 button fix after this firmware flash if it no longer works.
I actually found and flashed that firmware a little while ago with no improvement. Still no softkeys. I am completely confused. I thought this was software, and now I am beginning to wonder. Is there anything else that I can install that might fix this?
Since I no longer have stock firmware and don't seem to be able to be able to find the original again, I'm not sure that I am even going to be able to take it back to my carrier, since I believe that the warranty is voided unless I can return it to the original firmware.
Hello,
I'll keep an eye out for that firmware, it has to be somewhere you would think.
In the meantime, to pull the backup from your wifes phone, I do believe you need root access. Maybe you can pursuade her by cooking her a nice dinner with a good bottle of pinot noir
In the meantime, I'll keep looking for you.
I'm not even sure how long it's been anymore, but I am still working on this...
Okay, so I think I'm just going to swipe my wife's phone and root it while she is not looking...
My question is this: Is there a guide that will tell me how to 1. root (then unroot) her phone and 2. create a backup of her firmware that I can install on my phone. Also, if said backup can be used with Odin, I will be happy to share it here since it seems to be lacking and much needed.
Since more and more people have this device and since the stock ROMs are mobile carrier and country dependent, in order to flash these ROMs you need the proper PIT file to do that.
It would be helpful if those that have this device could contribute, extract and attach the PIT files, indicating the G901F product code, PDA, CSC & modem details.
How to extract PIT from your deviceYou must have the following installed:
SuperSU
Busybox
Terminal emulator
From terminal emulator
Code:
su
Grant permission to run as root and then run this command
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/sdcard/out.pit bs=8 count=580 skip=2176
The file will be located in the internal sdcard (memory), with the name out.pit. Copy the file to your computer and attach it here as a zip.
From adb shellYou must have Android SDK installed, "USB debugging" enabled from "developer options". Now connect your phone to computer, open a cmd window and go the location where SDK is located. Then run the following commands, one at a time:
Code:
adb devices
adb shell
I was able to use the PIT from Vodafone Germany to flash the ROM for Vodafone for other countries. As you already know, try it at your own risk

Thank you very much. [emoji106]
I'm failing to root my S5
I am also using the UK version on EE, unfortunately the PIT file provided by Phoenix09 didn't work for me. Here's some details...
Model number: SM-G901F
Android version: 4.4.4
Baseband version: G901FXXU1ANK1
Kernel version: 3.10.0-2413392
Build number: KTU84P-G901FXXU1ANK3
I'm using JOdin for Mac (JOdin3CASUAL-r1141-dist.jar)
CF Auto Root (CF-Auto-Root-kccat6-kccat6xx-smg901f.tar.md5)
And the PIT from this thread (G901F_pit_G901FXXU1ANK3_EVR.pit)
JOdin is unable to retrieve the PIT file from my phone, It gives me errors and states that it can't reboot the device. Even after providing it with a PIT file it still gets stuck and can't go any further, thus no root. Do I have the correct PIT file for my phone or is an issue with Knox being enabled?
Thanks.
Hello, i was wondering if it is possible with the wrong combination of pit file and rom to cause battery drain?
Initially the phone had 4.4.4 and after I tried upgrading to 5.0.2, obviously it failed so I had to change the pit file.
I observed battery drain after several cycles, came back to 4.4.4, the battery problem is still there.
Performed reset from phone, from recovery menu, the phone enters deep sleep but with screen on it has a very rapid and abrupt descend.

have you tried kies3 emergency recovery? it wipes all and flashes stock (branded). then you can flash back anything you want.
Hi All,
Has anyone a dutch T-mobile PIT-file for me for the G901F?

i have also battery drain problem im trying to fix it for two weeks now..... i downgraded to 4.4.4 but it was crap compared to beautiful 5.0.2 so i flashed back to LP and then it started... after one night -30% ... battery curve is straight down on chart but it is ure stock with knox 0x0
i tried to flash different roms even latest BOE1 but problem remains... i cant go to sleep when i have ~30% because i won get up when my fone dies over night... before that i had -3% over night!
i noticed that phon wont go into deep sleep as much as it should, 300Mhz has highest use... but all applications that can check app battery use shows Android System .... which tells me nothing as it could be anything :/
help me please... i love this phone but with this battery drain issue im willing to sell it and buy LG G4...
Hey All,
I've recently been given a Galaxy Gear as a gift/freebie as they upgraded to the Apple Watch (UK Version, I'm in the USA), and me being me, figured I'd do what I do with all my phones, see if I can root, custom rom, etc.
I've done the research, learning about Android Vs Tizen and also the null_23 rom (which looks very appealing to be honest).
So, rooting and customizing most of phones, didn't think this would be a problem, but for the life of me, I can't get moving forwards on this, so before I brick it (as I've only had it 24 hours) I figured I'd turn to the knowledgeable
I have tried using ADB, I can boot it into download and recovery using that, I've tried using Odin 3.09 to install 'null_03_TWRP2.7.tar.md5' recovery, ready for the 'null_ 23.zip' rom, but, the only way into 'download' mode is from ADB, if I try the 'rebooting' then 6 power button presses and choose 'download' it just reboots into the gear, not download. So I then I read up somewhere that it needed to be rooted, so I tried to use 'Impactor_0.9.14.zip' to do that, even following the instructions, didn't seem to work. All this didn't allow the 'recovery' image to take and be used.
I've tried to connect with the two versions of Kies, I've tried 'Unified_Android_Toolkit_v1.4.4.exe' I've tried 'Wondershare MobileGo ' I've tried different USB ports. Once I've had it on the screen providing me with the code (looks like a MAC ID) asking me to trust it, etc. When it goes into sleep mode, I have to pull the usb and reconnect to dectect it again. I have enabled debug mode (going into the system and hitting software version, I think it was, 10 times)
I believe I've done everything I should be doing, but it doesn't want to work, and I don't want to brick it.
The details on the system info are as follows. (from Unified_Android_Toolkit_v1.4.4)
