Problem I have is my machine is windows 8.1 and it won't recognise my phone in fastboot mode (adb is fine)
Does anyone know if it's possible to upgrade my phone any other way that using fastboot ????

Hi
I've been looking really hard thanks, windows 8 was fine it's windows 8.1 (preview) that's the problem, if you can however point me to a guide that works that would be lovely.

Thats all well & good if you have USB 3.0. But in my case I don't & I don't have that Intel(R)_USB_3.0_eXtensible_Host_Controller_Driver rev. 1.0.6.245 on this computer so I cannot install it.
How it shows when it is in fastboot.
When the phone is booted up it shows as normal as a ADB device. All I want to do is s-off the damn thing :/

same here
no usb 3 thats why it doesnt work for me.
i appreciate peoples help but it always annoys me when people say things like "go and have a look, there's loads of threads on this"
I spent about 4 hours looking last night, tried everything mentioned even though I knew deep down it wouldn't work. Dunno why some people have to be so pissy with their answers.
(nikk this isnt aimed at you)

also as well
no one has actually answered the question i asked, i get some pissy answer saying go and use the search button etc.
all i wanted to know is can you upgrade firmware any other way apart from fastboot, i.e. via twrp etc .....
if not then i'll have to rebuild an old machine with windows 7, just wanted to save myself the time thats all

It is really annoying isn't it. Something that worked perfectly fine on windows 8 fails to work on 8.1. I have tried all the different threads must be about 15 threads & 10 websites i've visited & none of them have a work around :|
You could probably get a flashable zip if you have a custom recovery if not then installing windows 7 is probably the only way, Unfortunate for me I don't even have windows 7 :|

on the 1st screen, are you not able to manually select a driver, something like Update Driver -> Let me choose -> Let me pick from list -> My HTC?
sorry if i'm wasting your time, cause it happened to me once even on Win7, and I had to manually select it. and then it worked

Need help from android gurus extremely frusturated

Ok here it goes...
Ive come to the conclusion by having no luck with my previous thread which was asking how to fix " the usb is not recognized" after trying everything known to man and reading every thread that this is kind of a grey area. If your problem isnt obvious ie: debugging off or new usb cord etc... then ur sol ? I say this because the people who know their stuff are extremely detailed and make insanely great write-ups.
FTW can anyone explain or knows how to do this:
Fix the phone so that I can have full usb function ie: when i plug it in the comp wants to install drivers and the phone gives me the option to mount?
If not can someone tell me what choices I have???
To give some info my phone started this after (dont judge why i did this like this lol) installed freshhh 2.0b then the new radio then the new....heroc recov(from reading all day and night im guessing its the recovery)
also the phone will boot in heroc recov and will boot in fastboot but NO ADB sigh. and to take the cake me being frusturated seemed to break the cardinal rule no nandroid backup sigh sigh. basically i just want the usb back in action and fresh 2.0 w/radio. im sorry about the long post but im losin my mind over this. Thanks in advance guys as always every bit counts.
Go into your android dev kit and make sure you have the most current version of the ADB drivers. Are they updated? If so, make sure those are the ones you are using.
I've had similar issues before and I know it's wicked frustrating. Just keep toying with it... sure you'll get it eventually.

this happened to me with my brother's moment. I can't remember if usb debugging had to be on or off but it that is what I messed with to get it to work. Try throttling it on and off... Good luck

yes i have and no it doesnt...
Re-install HTC Sync.. It updates the drivers...
there's some driver incompatibility if you've ever used another device with adb... you have to find the original device, put in dev mode, and overwrite drivers with that of the hero, then plug hero in and try agian.... if that is in fact your problem....
otherwise, htc sync should fix ya

what do you do?
PDAnet for android has some driverS you could try as well...
http://www.junefabrics.com
Yes PDAnet but I also had success with installing HTC Sync for the Eris.
I am using Win7 64bit.
http://www.htc.com/us/support/droid-eris-verizon/downloads/
As per crunchybutternut's suggestion in a different thread, I followed the instructions in this link: hxxp://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/ (sorry, I can't post links yet)
Basically, I downloaded USBDeview and ran it in administrator mode to delete all HTC and Android related drivers (while phone is plugged in).
I then unplugged and plugged the phone back in and it reinstalled everything fine except for the ADB driver, so I told it to let me manually choose a driver from a list, selected Have Disk and pointed it to C:\android-sdk-windows\usb_driver
After that, I just set the phone to HTC Sync mode when plugging it in and it worked fine.

right now im doing alot of sql for companies who want full dbms. But pretty much know a little bit of it all. this is really fun to play with just a lil rough around the edges. i always liked linux tho!
And back to the problem i like the eris suggestion and I did all the rest. My only thought is this why after heroc attempt***???what does heroc do at the core behind being a boot prog what could it mess up or change if not flashed correctly? Thanks guys for the love
First, make sure your phone is NOT connected and open a command prompt. Then type the following command:
set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
You won't get any sort of output, it just goes to the next line. Then type in devmgmt.msc to open the device manager. Got to VIEW and select "Show Hidden Devices".
Now, expand the ADB Interface section, right click on each device individually, and uninstall. When prompted to delete the driver choose YES!
Go to the HTC Website to download and install the newest version of HTCsync.
http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=283&cat=3&dl_id=852
Once installed it would probably be a good idea to reboot your computer before you connect your HTC Hero. Once the Hero is connected make sure you pull down your notification bar and select HTC Sync or it won't connect for ADB access.
Hope this helps!
I've had this problem before but it was usually after I rooted my hero and had messed around. I've bricked two of them with the RUU trying to fix it. Don't really know why the phones bricked still. Usually I just kept plugging the phone on over and over until it recognized it.

[Q] Custom Firmware now USB doesnt connect?

No, once you install the Samsung Captivate drivers, if the computer detects an 'i9000' phone (or an i9000 ROM on Captivate), it will automatically install the drivers. Try right clicking Computer in the start menu and clicking Manage, or something along those lines (not on my Windows partition right now...). Then in the left pane, select Manage Devices or something about Devices. Then try and look for the phone in that list (look hard, it would be under mobile devices or something like that). Right click on anything associated with the phone and click Uninstall or Remove or something along those lines. Again, sorry I'm being so vague, I'm not on my Windows partition right now.
Oh, and while you're doing this, make sure your phone is not plugged in.
After you finish that stuff, reboot. Then plug your phone it and see if it automatically detects the correct drivers. If not, leave it plugged in and install the stock Samsung Captivate drivers (can be found somewhere in the development forums).

Great to know! So then you shouldn't have a problem following my vague/horrible instructions xD
Anyway, if that doesn't work, you can try booting in safe mode and following the same steps (though I doubt that would make a difference)...
But I do remember this happened to me once. I was also running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, but it was on my Desktop computer which I was only using temporarily because my laptop had crashed, so I didn't have much of a desire to fix it so I never did
Oh and I'm taking A+ next year... they don't allow students to take it freshman year ): (lol I feel young...)

Okay, right click on the one with an exclamation next to it and click 'Update Driver Software'. Assuming you didn't delete the folder that had the Samsung drivers in it, choose "Browse computer for driver software", click on "Browse...", and select the folder that you unzipped the drivers to. Make sure to keep the Subfolders option checked, too. Click next and let it do its thing. Restart your computer and see if it works then. And make sure your phone isn't plugged in during this too.
nah, when i browse the folder of usb drivers it says "the driver is already the best used driver" so that seems to not work
would flashing to a different rom maybe serve better?

Hmm...
Then you can try doing the same in Safe Mode, which will keep Windows from trying to re-install the driver (which is what I think happened). Also, make sure you're using these drivers from this guide.
Oh, also, don't miss the "Disk Drives" drop-down, too. It also has drivers for the GT-i9000, at least it does for me.
hmm nah i thing something is wrong with the rom, no gt9000 disk drive, still doesnt work after the drives, i think i just may get an sd reader, thanks for trying tho
edit: oh wait thats an internal sd, hmm, i think im gonna try another rom i guess unless anyone has any other ideas?

[Q] Ok I got myself into a huge problem

Please take in mind that i am 18, and that i might not understand technical terms..
So i am one to like to try different kinds of custom ROMS on my captivate because, quite frankly, the stock ROM is terrible. Last year i flashed Cognition V.2 but i eventually got tired of it, so i switched to Cappy's GingerBread ROM, but did not like how much battery life it used. SO seeing that Cognition had come out with V.3 a couple weeks later, i decided to try and flash that ROM. And this is where the problems began...
AS you might know, the most common way to flash roms is to use ROM manager, and when i transferred the file to my phone and selected "Install ROM from SD card." Normally the phone would restart and then go into recovery mode..that did not happen. It just stayed on the ATT start up screen. So i reluctantly pulled out the battery after waiting on it for an hour.
This is when i realized that i could not enter recovery mode at all! ive tried the volume button trick along with trying apps that send your phone directly into recovery mode..oh and i also tried using terminal emulator and sending a command to my phone to reboot into recovery mode, THAT did not work.
So after that I decided as a somewhat last resort, i tried the hard reset, (where you dial a number in and it factory resets your phone.) Which was appearantly was the worst idea i could have ever done because now when i boot up my phone it will get past the ATT screen but now my lock screen will randomly turn on and off by itself, like i cannot unlock it, the screen will repeatedly turn itself on...then off every 5 or so seconds.
I am so confused on what i am to do, and im sorta stressing out about this point in time. So please if one of you educated forum readers know how to fix my terrible mistakes, the help would be EXTREMELY appreciated.
Thank you

look for odin one click with the 3button fix, get virtual box or boot camp, get windows 7 preferably but xp is ok, get drivers, add the phone in donwload mode to the device list on the virtual machine and then you should be able to odin flash from the virtual mache. i have done it in linux but i have also had problems getting it to mount the phone in the virtual machine with a different linux install, i still dont know what the problem was or if you will have problems on the mac.

[Q] Multitude of problems; What do I do?

I'm aware that there are many forums about these various things but seemingly, no matter what I do, I cannot successfully restore my phone to working order. I just would like it to be stock again. This all came about in the process of trying to un-root my phone. Using TWRP i accidentally deleted my system files, and unfortunately have no back up due to the full wipe. I really am a somewhat uneducated in this realm of knowledge so I apologize ahead of time for that. I immensely appreciate any and all help possible! :fingers-crossed:
The Status of my Phone:
Sprint HTC ONE
Tampered; Unlocked, S=ON
TWRP Recovery
No OS, only have access to Bootloader, Fastboot, and TWRP Recovery
The Status of my PC:
Most recent Sdk file download
Most recent HTC Sync Manager (I think this means i have up to date drivers too?)
Fastboot files are installed.
The Stock rom i'm trying to push/flash/install is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250904
These are My Problems:
Phone cannot be recognized while in fastboot. This cause me to be unable to re-lock the phone.
The command fastboot devices yields no results where as the command ADB devices does detect my phone.
My phone can be detected in recovery, not fastboot.
I have pushed the rom to my phone however upon install attempts from the recovery I simply "Error flashing zip" without any error number or anything.
If other information is needed please ask and I will try to provide it. I'm not sure where to go from here and would really not like having a brick since i have no way to replace the phone until my contract ends .Thanks again everyone, I really do appreciate any help, advice, or information
Try uninstalling HTC Sync, but leave the drivers. Hopefully this will allow fastboot to see your phone. Then run the ruu.

Okay, just did that, and it hasn't seemed to change the issue. Should I try uninstalling all the htc files on the pc and then just find a file of just drivers? Thanks for your help coal.
You're welcome. That might work, but I'm unsure why it didn't work. Are you on Windows 8? There are some special steps you have to do I think. Also, the drivers don't work on the Windows 8.1 preview.

Also, have you tried different ports?
And does it say Fastboot USB?

Karn:
It does say Fastboot USB in all red text, and i have tried different usb ports. however they are all usb 3 so i don't know if that matters.
In terms of the connecting of my phone is unrecognized and windows say it has malfunctioned. In the control panel under devices my phone is displayed as follows in the picture.
The are special instructions somewhere on XDA for Windows 8. The exclamation tells me that may be the issue. I use Windows 7, so I'm not sure what they are.
Also, I do think people have sometimes had issues with using usb 3 ports, but my old computer doesn't have those, so I can't say personally.

When you start it pick #4 fixed then #5 unbrick.. You must have had USB Debugging mode Enable prior to bricking.. Also check device manager in windows and check ports.. I have the VS980 (Verizon version) and I was completely...and I mean completely dead (due to my own mistake) , no charge, no power, no download mode, no led, nothing at all. I had a full on 100% brick sitting on my desk. BUT.....I went here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/general/lg-g2-unbrickable-fix-real-hard-brick-t2904404 and was able to bring it back to life. Now yes you do have to open the device and mess with inside parts but i was able to get mine going. The guide here is for the other models (specifically not the vs980) but I was able to finagle the inside parts to make it work the way I needed to. From there I was able to boot back up and i flashed all the way back to 10B and just OTA back up to lollipop and root again and install TWRP and I'm back up to where I was a few weeks ago, of course I lost everything (texts, photos) in the process but I am back up and running and I am happy I was able to pull that off thanks to the great folks who figure all this stuff up for us.
So I would say go for it and try it, or if not I could do it for you, and if not I'm am surely positive that someone here can help you figure it out with your current situation. Cheers.
PS, if you dont want to mess with it, just let me have it LOL!
