Hey all, i dont know if this is possible but I flashed my captivate and before i could restore the data with titanium backup, i got a flurry of messages from my viber friends. basically, if i restore the backup now, i lose the new messages and without restoring, i cant have my old messages in the history.
is it possible to merge the viber_messages file on the captivate with the one from the backup? maybe in a sql manager or somthing? i'm sorry but i dont know sql but was wondering if it could work?
thanks

hello.. I think it will not work, because when I tried that, it require me to do a data wipe, so you will lose all your messaging hisotry then on your viber,

Hey all.
First things first, absolutely loving ICS on the SGS. Never looking back after spending time on this OS.
Only thing that's troubling me is the messaging app. Frequently struggling to send out and receive sms messages, as they seem to be delayed up to 5 minutes at a time. Tried flashing JVT, JVQ and now JVK, with none fixing the solution.
I'm also suffering from constant 'Unfortunately Messaging has stopped working' errors, requiring a reboot of the phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

am not facing any such problem..
though you can try clearing messaging data ... or ...reflashing the rom.. and if that doesn't work then some other messaging app like GO SMS or Handscent SMS..
use other massage applications

Tried to clear message data a few times, no change.
If i make a nandroid backup, then reflash the rom and restore, will everything go back exactly as it was?
Could it have anything to do with location / modems?

I don't think restoring from a nandroid backup will help as it brings back the same state as your phone is now in..
I would suggest using titanium backup pro for backing up apps and data and use 'sms backup and restore' or some other app to backup messages.. this way you'll get a clean install...
Don't forget to wipe/factory reset before flashing again..
I don't think it has to do anything with modem/ location..

Yeah i didnt think so.
Alrighty then, when i get a chance to do a clean install i'll try it out.
It's so weird, because my girlfriend has the exact same phone (sgs i9000 with onecosmis 4.0.3) on the same provider, who lives just up the road from me and is having the exact same problems!
Did this get a solution? I am having the exact same problem - "Unfortunately messaging has stopped." but I also get another kind of error - can't hear or be heard during some calls until reboot.
I'm getting this on different ICS roms too :/
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I am also getting same issue on ICS (cm9).
Other apps like Adobe Reader, Kingsoft office, file manager are not giving this error.
Camera, clock, settings are showing same error "Unfortunately <the app> has stopped"
any help?
Hi all
I am about to switch my phone with my GF's phone. I've made a backup of my data, but I still need to backup her data for the switch. I was thinking of rooting (Done that to my Galaxy Ace before), but the only option I could find was flashing a new kernel, and I'm afraid that I'd lose all of her data.
Is there a way that does not involve flasing a new rom or kernel, but still gets me a temp root on the S2? (I will flash after that temp root tho, but it's important to backup her data.)
Thanks for your time (and help)

Flashing a rooted kernel will not wipe out your data.
It just changes the kernel and adds root.
What data are your trying to save?

Basicly, everything. From phone numbers to saved game data (and whats app logs etcetera)
I use Titanium Backup to save my apps and data.
I just export my contacts to my SD card.
Call Logs Backup & Restore for the call logs
SMS Backup & Restore for text messages
For the unrooted phone, buy Backup To Gmail from the market for 1.99. Will back up all SMS, mms, call logs. Contacts should be synced to gmail anyway. As for the apps, I don't know a good one that doesn't require root. The above poster is right though, a successful root shouldn't require you to wipe. Good luck!

Thanks for your help guys. Turns out that my gf didn't have the sII. She has the S plus which was easy to root and backup using titanium backup.
Thanks,

Just a suggestion: sync your phone book with your Google account, it's so easy and safe!
Hi all,
So I took the plunge and installed cyanogen, backed up my HTC one first with their software and went ahead and installed the rom.
I had no idea the HTC sync software was dependent on SenseUI being on the device so now I can't recover my contacts or text messages.
No problem, I thought, because cyanogen makes a backup of the current image during install right? Apparently not, so I'm thinking my best course of action is to reinstall a compatible stock rom, get the phone numbers/texts, back up to google and find an app to backup the texts and then reinstall cyanogen.
My question what is the best way to backup the phone so I can retrieve the info with out sync manager?
Also, if anyone knows of an app that lets you save your texts to a file over usb to your computer that would be good.
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply, it sent myself an hbk file although I'm not sure if CM supports the importing of that format. The search continues
Edit: I used SMS Backup and Restore in the end
Which is the best way to restore apps+data after flashing a new rom?
I tried nandroid as well as titanium backup..but after restoring , the apps does not work properly..especially WhatsApp , FB messenger and other apps does not show the notifications unless the app is opened ..
Please suggest a proper way for restoring apps along with it's data ..
