Phone says S-On, But SuperSU still works?? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, n00b question here,
I had rooted my phone a while ago (HTC One w/ Beats Audio w/ 4.1 HTC AT&T Sense crap on it) to upgrade to Stock version Google Play 4.3 Version, then lost my root.
Recently, the 4.4 OTA came out, and my phone got ****ed up (literally blue screened) and I had to recover to the AT&T 4.3 Sense version I had put on my phone before the GPE. So now my phone has root access (SuperSU works as good as it used to) but my phone still tells me it's S-On when I go into bootloader mode... what did I do?
What I want to do is get S-off again so I can get stock GPE 4.4
How should I go about doing this?
(btw I have a Mac)

Need Help Restoring Google Play Edition to Stock (HBOOT 1.54 - 4.3 AOSP)

Hello,
I seem to have gotten myself into a bind, and looking ahead to the 4.4 KitKat release, I am not sure how to get myself out of it. I've already done a lot of research and troubleshooting on my own, but can't seem to resolve the problem.
I purchased an HTC One Google Play edition, and decided to root to apply a quick fix with utilizing the Nexus 5 launcher. To that end, I unlocked my bootloader and rooted. I had a Windows 7 partition on my Mac at the time, but it was giving me trouble. Since the root, I became dissatisfied with the performance of the phone, and attempted to restore to factory.
I flashed stock recovery again, and relocked the bootloader. Now the bootloader shows as "relocked" and "tampered." However, in between root and unroot attempts, I upgraded my partition to Windows 8.1. Suddenly, when in fastboot, my HTC One shows up as "USB Device not Recognized," meaning I cannot issue any commands using ADB. If I don't get "waiting for device" I get "device offline," and my device is still rooted.
Whenever I uninstall Super SU, it's right back upon reboot.
I currently have S-ON. I am unable to get S-OFF because my computer doesn't recognize the phone when in fastboot. I tried updating and downloading different HTC Drivers to no avail.
I want to attempt to get my device back to its exact status when I bought the phone. Meaning, I want to have my bootloader as locked, keep S-ON (although I don't mind having S-OFF temporarily), and flash the stock RUU/Recovery. Upon Google Search, this seems easy, but there is not much out there for the GPE. A lot of the guides I have found are for Sense versions. My phone is not a GPE conversion. It is an actual GPE phone purchased on the Play Store.
Phone is functional, but I am concerned when 4.4 comes out, the update will fail or brick.
Sorry if this thread is long. I wanted to be as detailed as possible when asking for help. Thanks again to anyone on XDA who can assist.

try this http://plugable.com/2012/12/01/windows-8-and-intel-usb-3-0-host-controllers
it worked for some users
Thanks. Will try when I get home. I was able to use my Win 7 computer at work to unlock the boot loader again, but I cannot get S Off. I ran rumrunner and it looked like it was working, but then said FATAL: download update. Is there no rumrunner for GPE?

Update: Your suggestion worked perfectly! I was able to unlock my bootloader again from my windows 8.1. I'm now trying to get S-OFF and flash the stock gpe RUU. To date, the RUU fails to install, and rumrunner gives me errors that ask me to run the program again. I feel I am still stuck as I want to eliminate root and make sure I can receive OTA. Is there anything else I can do? I'm still running stock 4.3 and stock recovery for the GPE.

Yeah I have stock rom and I removed TWRP and flashed stock recovery. Because I did two factory restores from bootloader, I'm assuming the stock recovery is working properly, but I'm a noob at this stuff so I could be wrong.
Going to relock the bootloader, remove SuperSU, and attempt the update when it hits. Hopefully it will work.
Thanks for your help! Since I'm a new member, how do I add to your thanks meter? Want to make sure you're properly....thanked.

you can still get OTA with a rooted phone, as long as you have stock recovery and flashed stock ruu.... tip if your having trouble with flashing ruu change the zip file name to something simple like ruu.zip worked for me.:good:

Can you tell me if your bootloader was 1.54 or 1.55? I have been unable to get Windows 8.1 to recognize the 1.54 bootloader. It always says "device not recognized" If yours was 1.54.0000 I will try this fix. Thanks.
I am 1.54.

4.4 on Dev devices - convert or wait for ROMs?

Hey all,
After a couple of years away from HTC and my EVO 4G, I'm glad to be back as I just bought a HTC One. Looks like an AT&T UL variant still on HBOOT 1.44, S-ON, and 4.1.2. I know the dev devices are starting to get KitKat, and I know I want Sense 5.5 and KitKat versus AT&T bloat and AOSP senseless, so I think this means I should be thinking about converting to a Dev Ed. That said, I'd think the 4.4 update will be modified for use in other standard device ROMs pretty quickly. Is there any reason NOT to convert to a dev device based upon my inclinations above?
THANKS!!!

Imo go for dev edition or wwe, and your M7 will be bloatware free and receive ota directly from htc instead of at&t. Its a pretty easy process, but im sure you already know how to convert from what you said above. The only thing to consider imo is warranty void after unlocking bootloader
Thanks so much! I got my phone off eBay but it looks and seems to function just fine so I like my chances. No worries here about the warranty. Thanks again!

Unlock that boot loader, s-off son. (Probably revone if you're on hboot 1.44). Fastboot flash the Google edition 4.4 ruu. I promise you you will not be disappointed! Once flashed the. Fastboot flash twrp (latest) and make a backup of your stock GE 4.4.
From there you can flash any rom (sense, GE, aosp). Even from the HTC one, HTC one at&t, or other gsm HTC ones.
I don't worry about warranty. You can always lock boot loader, s-on and change cid back to stock then ruu and they never know.

[Q] Sort some things out (HTC One)

Hey xda,
I kind of feel like needing help understanding my situation. Normally I read a lot and understand all this stuff around modding quite ok, but I'm at a point with too many grey zones of half-understanding, I guess.
So I have an HTC ONE, bought in germany half a year ago, with Sense and all that HTC-branding. When the google edition came out, it was easy installing a custom recovery and a vanilla JB google rom (I'm not quite sure today why I did it, but I also flashed HBOOT to 1.54). There was no need thinking about s-off (I'm still s-on) and RUUs. Even OTAs worked seamless.
Then came the OTA for 4.4, I hit update and got stuck in a bootloop. Finding out that it was cwmr took me a while.. I began reading and realized that I would need s-off to install the OTAs. Here's my first question: Why? What changed that I can't install it via custom recovery like before?
And is it just a matter of time, until there's a flashable version of vanilla kitkat?
Now I'm running OneDroid by ssrij, which doesn't requires s-off - why doesn't this one need s-off, but most of the others do?
Any words for clarification would be really appreciated!

I would forget about the why and just get busy getting rumrunner to work to get s-off. just flash a stock rooted 4.3 rom and use rumrunner.
also make sure your on TWRP 2.6.3.3 before flashing any of the kitkat roms
this is as close to pure android as I could find
HTC One Nexus Edition 2.0

luckily I'm still happy with onedroid rom, so no need for further experiments
but the why is bothering me nonetheless. especially: is it just a matter of time (like something official isn't published yet) till there's a s-on flashable vanilla kitkat?

[Q] AT&T OTA Not working - Stock

Hey guys, I just bought this phone yesterday from AT&T. Just out of the box I received an OTA update, which I thought was the KK update. But no, I am stuck on android 4.1.2 and Sense 5.0, and when I try to update, all I get is a message saying that everything is up to date and there are no updates available for me.
I am on the AT&T network at the time, and my phone is completely stock, no mod whatsoever. Any ideas what is going on????
You might want to exchange for a new unit or request for them to update, for all we know applying solutions suggested by us might just void the warranty instead.

use this RUU to get to 4.3 >> http://androidruu.com/getdownload.p...13_10.38j.1157.04_release_334235_signed_2.exe
you need locked / relocked bootloader
being your on 4.1.2 now would be a great time to get s-off before doing the ruu update. check this guide for getting s-off

+1 .. do it now!
Lets say I don't do S-Off (i don't really know what that is, my earlier phone was a crappy samsung) and I do the update with the RUU, will I be able to do S-Off later???
The thing is that i don't want to void the warranty. Coming from a really bad phone, where I had to mod EVERYTHING to get it working acceptably, I would really like to settle down and be stock for a while. Of course, that feeling will probably last a few months and then I will be flashing roms every 2 days lol.
If I flash the RUU manually, that doesn't void the warranty right? I mean, its an official firmware i suppose. On the other hand, if I can only do the S-Off thing right now, i might consider staying a while longer with 4.1.2 ... after all it is not so bad.

Mmm I think I'll start reading more before I make any decisions. Eventually I will root and install custom rims and kernels, so I'd like to keep my options open. If it's HARD but not impossible I might upgrade and stay stock.
Would you say there's a big difference between 4.1.2 / Sense 5.0 and 4.3 / Sense 5.5 ???
It's not that hard really.. i decided to s-off when im already running a KK rom. Firewater worked like a charm.

Gain S-Off now, and forever be happy. I never cared about OTA when I had that phone, I could run any RUU I wanted to, I changed from ATT to Dev, to GPE and back so many times. Just awesome.

HTC One M8 Android 4.4.4 rooted update to android 5.0

I have a normal edition Sprint HTC One M8 that is rooted with android version 4.4.4. I am still on the stock ROM. Whenever I got the phone, about 2-3 weeks ago, I wasn't aware that 5.0 was being released to the M8. So I updated to 4.4.4 through the OTA update and rooted. After rooting the system update popped up prompting me to update to version 5.0.
Now my question, is there an official rooted stock 5.0 ROM yet? I can't find it anywhere.
If there isn't, how do I go about updating to 5.0 from rooted 4.4.4?
Thanks,
Shawn
More info: this isn't the first time I've rooted phones. I've had an HTC EVO 4G and a Samsung Galaxy S3. This is just the first time I've had stuff not go as planned.
I tried to get S-OFF, however since "firewater" no longer works, and the only other way is SunShine, I can live with S-ON.

In order to take the OTA you need a stock rom (no modifications to system) and stock recovery.
Or option 2 is you can run the latest RUU

How would I go back to stock recovery and remove root?
Same question for RUU. I've only used RUU once on my EVO 4G to reset everything. Not sure if the process is the same for the One M8 or where I'd start lol

You flash stock recovery the same way you flash twrp, root should be ok I've never done an OTA I've always been s-off.
The rom you are on should also be ok unless you removed a bunch of bloat.
The RUU will wipe your device...back up anything important to your PC.
Side note: Every time there is an update and you like custom roms most require the firmware to be updated in order for them to work properly.
Updating firmware with s-off only takes a couple minutes and a lot less hassle then if you are s-on... so I would recommend biting the bullet and using Sunshine if at all possible.

I plan on staying with the stock ROM, just rooted so I'm gonna skip S-OFF. Never had an issue with it being on on my EVO (I flashed dozens of ROMs and stuff on it).
I'm ok with RUU wiping everything. I purposely haven't put much personal data on the phone cause I knew I'd be wiping within the next few weeks.
I'm gonna go the RUU method as everything will be fresh and unmodified.
Thanks for your help!
