What do you think of ART? Is it better than Dalvik - POLL - Nexus 5 General

Use the poll above to post your view on ART.
Personally I think it is a great improvement over Dalvic, even in this beta stage. All my apps are working with it
*** What do you think of it, do you have any apps that don't work/problems. Are you going to keep using it, or are you going back to Dalvik?
NOTE: To enable developer options (So as you can change from Dalvik to ART) - Open your phones settings, go to 'About Phone' (where u can see kernel, android version etc.) then tap 'Build number' 7 times. This will enable the developer options for your phone, please be careful what you do in there, I accept no responsibility. Enjoy

What is ART anyway?
Check out some info on it >>here<< - or within xda itself.
There are also some video comparisons on youtube.

I got my n5 yesterday and that's what he first thing i did was change it to art. Much snappier and smoother IMO.

Watching the video shows no improve difference really. Quite negligible. Aside from showing off to friends, this work in progress feature isn't that much faster. I think when they get it fully automated it'll be worth it. People made it seen like it was minutes not second difference

Really!!!
I think as the thread police you are not doing a very good job.
Could you please put a link in to where the other thread is that is a user 'POLL'.
I repeat a 'POLL', where you can quickly see at the top of the thread, clearly and easily, what users feel about their experience with art or lack thereof.
I wait for the link or your apology (neither of which I think will be forth coming).

Hidden Programming Menu

I just got off the phone with support attempting to get my SMS working correctly and they had me go into a menu I had not seen anyone mention in here yet. This is a programming menu that you find on other android devices although I hadn't seen anyone find it for the droid X yet. Here is how to enter it-

It was getting into a menu very similar to this on the Droid Incredible that enabled us to get Wifi Hotspot working without subscription.
Tinker away.
Anyone know what data call setting does?

No wonder there is zero development inspiration for this phone. The emo teenieboppers will just be unappreciative and immature and ruin the community anyhow, so why bother?

There is also another menu to access which the number is listed below, which I found in another thread here in the DX forums, but it seems to have been abandoned(the thread I mean).

Actually, since the entire Droid X forum here gets less hits than my personal website (which is unlisted, unadvertised and mostly for my friends and family), discouraging anyone from posting anything that might be additional or useful information is FAR more damaging to any community you might think you serve (FYI, "the community" is not considered "you and you alone" - despite what your parents may teach you).
If YOU (of course, that's what you are thinking of here) don't like it, hit the back button. If you need guidance in locating this tool in your browser, send me a PM and I will work through it with you since I am familiar with pretty much every major browser out there.

I know there is development, but not NEARLY as much as other phones released at the same time, and certainly the majority of it isn't discussed here. Gee, wonder why.
When you;
a) Figure out that you do not speak for any community or, in fact, comprise the majority opinion just because you think you do
and
b) Find the back button or the link located at the top of the page that takes you to the message list
THEN you can even begin to talk to me. Until then, let the discussion resume with the big people and you just stay quiet and let other people do all the work.
Thanks for your cooperation.

First review

http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/29/google-nexus-4-hands-on/
This isn't a review. Its a preview.
The only real review sites are the following:
- Anandtech
- Heelsandtech
Everything else is simply a preview with personal opinions of the author mixed in to %#&! it up.
If I had to take a preview of any of the 2nd tier sites out there (theverge, engadget, slashgear, etc) it would be gigaom since they are truly unbiased.
Thread topic is a little misleading. Regardless, good video.
The Verge did an amazing job with their news handling for these devices today

They can be good but they don't include battery life tests so I don't count them as real reviews. Just went through 4 different reviews on their front page just now and none of them had ANY battery life test sections. Plus they DEFINITELY don't have the knowledge base Anand does.
Either way its just my personal preference
Maybe it is just me but did anybody else notice that all the lockscreens in the videos are using the pattern to unlock and not the slide to unlock?
Well I only did see the one in this thread and the one from the verge but still it was something that I had noticed.

Usually they post their battery test results on their blog.
I guess they prefer to post the review ASAP and then add the battery results (I suppose since they take some time to do).

[Discussion] LG Optimus 4x HD - Updates

Welcome to
The LG Optimus 4x HD Updates Discussion Thread
The purpose of this thread is to provide a singular location to talk about all updates for all regions. There is no need to create a new thread for every update for every region. Just discuss it here in this thread
Rules:
Keep discussion relevant and to the point.
Keep discussion as factual as possible.
Only post if your post can add value to the over all thread. IMPORTANT this one
Asking questions is not encouraged directly in this thread. Those should be posted in the Q&A subforum.

Not worth reporting, threads of this type are unnecessary anyway, not sure why op copied that thread(they left the [/QUOTE] at the end lol), its not a lot of words to write yourself.

So far the thread is going pretty well! But I must admit, that is an amateur mistake! - Next time, change the hyper links. then none of this would have happened! :good:
"The purpose of this thread is to provide a singular location to talk about all updates for all regions. There is no need to create a new thread for every update for every region. Just discuss it here in this thread"
You can't discuss all updates in one place, you need to maintain some order. It's not convenient if one person talks about v10A, other about v10H and the third one talks about v20A, and all that in one thread on the same page. Subthreads are necessary in these situations. You can make a general thread about this phone where you can discuss about different visual themes or such less-relevant things, but official updates/ROMs/kernels need to be subthreaded because it's easier to find specific information you're looking for. After all, that's the true purpose of threads and subthreads, isn't it?
OP, if you realise and looked at the past, there's already a well used and discussed thread for this purpose. Of course its title can be tweaked a little.

if threads are unnecessary, might break some rules, or whatever you think might be wrong, then it is worth reporting
that's exactly the point of this button.
many people think the report button would be "holy", and you would only be allowed to press it in "worst cases". but, in fact, the opposite is the case. most mods are thankful you hitting the report button. FSM's are splitted my manufacturers, "our" FSM team has to deal with all sony(ericsson), LG and Motorola sections, so the chance for seeing something going wrong is ~0.
sorry for the heavy OT, but i just had to let it out now

HAHA!! i see. how abt "official LG rom discussion thread"? lol but the current title is good enough imo, having the contents that really counts.
Just saying....
So.... 2 pages so far and not really anything in the way of discussion regarding O4X updates.....
I tend to side with the view that LG are far more likely to concentrate future efforts on new devices rather than issue significant firmware updates to existing models; by cell phone handset standards, the O4X whilst still very capable and adaptable is already something of a dinosaur where age is concerned.
What keeps us going is the excellent work done by the devs and custom rom artists

PSX User Thread/Information - Latest ver.: V3! Merry X-mas! :)

Hi all!
So... the PSX thread is finally closed... but I guess some of us will keep using it, right? So I thought that it would be interesting to create a user thread for this great ROM.
UPDATE: A brief FAQ for you.
Q: So, what happened to the thread?
A: The developer got (allegedly) tired of the slackness of the majority of the people posting in the development thread, i.e. repeating questions that were already answered, repeating requests about features that were already requested, complaints about bugs that were already reported and mostly app/user related, etc.
Q: No more PSX?
A: Incorrect. Development goes on and you can follow it here. I will try to update this post with the most important updates, as apparently some people can't access the new forum from restricted access networks (office).
Q: Can we get nightlies and stuff?
A: It's possible, head out to the PSX forum and read the rules. I will only post released versions here, as the developers clearly want access to the nightlies to be limited, and I wouldn't want to get banned from their forum, would I?
Rejoice! V3 is finally here!
Changelog and mirror thanks to @infiltrata
Updated source to AOSP 4.4.2

Yes I think it makes sense!
Would be great if someone could follow ct's github and maybe build and share the releases...
On other news, I took the ART "plunge" this morning and so far I'm pretty happy with it! I lost about 1800 point in Quadrant, true, but battery life seems to have improved a lot! Don't know, maybe just placebo... I'll let it settle and try to give it some "normal" use and then I'll switch back to dalvik to compare... we'll see!
Oh and no compatibility issues so far. I was afraid that Carmageddon wouldn't work but it works perfectly with kitkat and art ^_^
Gone but not forgotten
I am a happy PSX user as a well. I tried catching up on all the issues but that was causing the problems but am still wondering since the thread is closed does that mean that CTFROMMN will never release any future updates or new Roms to us regular Joes? As a very new N4 owner I had only tried a few Roms but I have to say hands down, his latest work is the best that's out there right now. Its a shame if its the last one we will see.
I don't always post on XDA, I'm usually one of those who just lurk around and conduct experiments on their cellphone.
A few days ago I bought Nexus 4 after selling my old SGS2, and I tried several roms (both stock and non-stock), and the one that has actually caught my eye was PSX.
Smooth (even though Nexus 4 itself is smooth as hell), feature-rich, battery-friendly, and most importantly - bug free.
I don't know if ctfrommn is reading this (probably not), but just in case he does - you rock. You've made my experience with this device probably 10X better than with any other ROM.
I've read what you said on the official post and I agree that some people need to just shut the hell up and be thankful for what they get.
If you love something, keep on doing it, and let the nay sayers kiss your ass while doing it.
You did a great job on this ROM, and I'm sure a lot of people around here think so as well.
Thank you for your incredible work. I hope I'll get the chance to test and use your and your friends' creations in the future.
can some1 tell me what happened? my n4 is on lg service center, so i didnt check xda :/
^^^^ psx thread was all filled with posts like 'ohh i love this rom, this if do fast so smooth' and there were other posts all having complaints.1000's of posts like these..dev got tired of reading all those useless posts.. warned again and again but nobody listened.. No idea what happened yesterday but I'm sure that dev's mind should've snapped for sure after watching helplessly at the state of thread...
Anyways.. It shouldn't be a problem If There sources keep on getting updated.

Only chose the top originals as listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...dex-google-nexus-5-roms-kernels-mods-t2475401
This should help give people a starting point for the most popular ROMs people are choosing.
If you wish to give the main reason you are running the ROM that you are, please do. There may be some commonality among certain ROMs-- one people like for features, another for battery life, buglessness, etc.

please stay on topic. This thread is for tracking ROM traffic and simplifying the "finding your own personal ROM" life exploration process that we all inevitably go through
There's a few others ROMs I meant to include but they'll have to sit this one out.

As much as I support the concept, these sort of threads always get closed anyways.

well, I'm trying to make this as sanitary as it can be. On some forums this info was public knowledge, all the major ROMs had their own subforum and with a count beside the link that had the number of clicks within (arbitrary timeframe, perhaps the last 30 days or so). It helped weed out the fluff ROMs that don't really accomplish much unique. Over the months it became simple to see which ROMs people where more or less likely to choose given a fresh slate. It's a good thing for development because developers can more easily see which ROMs they want to support with their efforts.

you need to vote!
Going to have to agree... This doesn't seem like it'll be open much longer.
And I'm running an actual "Original" ROM. It's called Stock.

I'd agree this is kind of pointless. And just because a sub forum had fewer clicks doesn't mean many didn't truly enjoy it.
Going by that standard we should all be driving Ford F150 trucks in the U.S. since it's the number 1 selling vehicle every year.

Why not just sort the Development forums by stats? This poll thread isn't going to be remotely scientific anyway.
