Original android development is aimed at AOSP and AOKP Rom's like Cyanogen mod and paranoid android.
Android development is aimed at the way the company who made the phone intended it to be, ie: stock and custom based roms based around a stock base.

Android Development : Roms Super Tweaked, Superior Kernels, Fast, Clean, you can fly.
Original Android Development : Modified Stock Roms, close to ORIGINAL but rooted and some tweaks.

I will try to remember, but what grinds my gears now is what the f PA is doing in the Android section?
Thanks for the answer guys.

Was , quite a few other ROM's crept into Android Development the other day (about 5) that should have been in the other section, and Paranoid Android ROM seemed to stay in the wrong place .

Not at this time as it is an untested, blind build and unofficial...so best if not in OD at this time.

Can you explain me what's the difference to android development and original android development then?
From what I've heard and what other people here, at xda told me original development is a stock based roms section and android development is a place for AOSP roms. Could you shed some light on this?
Thanks.

Absolutely not. If that was the case what would be the difference between Original and Android Development on Nexus devices? Here is the explanation and guidelines for Original Development
And in this case Paranoid Android itself would classify as Original Development with Halo and Pie included but it is still basically a CM clone. The other requirement would be that the OP needs to be able to support the build. In this case Oblikas does not even own the device and therefore cannot test or support it. Let me know if you have anymore questions...I will do my best to answer.

Not exactly. There is what is quoted in the previous message and there has to be something original about it...not just compiled from AOSP or CM clones. Maintainers for ROMs that are considered Original such as CM and post official builds would get to post in OD. If there were no official version of CM and someone got it working with an unofficial version it can go in OD until the Official version comes along. Because he did something original by getting it working on a device that had no CM. Hope this helps.

I'm not disagreeing with you here, that's just the way it's always seemed, plus the fact that the vast majority of rom's that have derived from CM and the like have always been in Original development, never seen a stock (as intended by the company who made it ie: HTC, Samsung, Sony) rom in there no matter how modified and vice versa, I can't say that i've ever seen paranoid android and the like - original or modified in Android development either.
At least that's my experience anyway, taking a look at the HTC sections will show you what i'm talking about, namely HTC One and EVO 3D.

You are correct. So far except for a mod, Xposed Framework, there is not anything thrown on a stock ROM that would be considered Original Development. However the first rooted stock ROM for a new device would be. Also the opposite of what you say is not true...CM clones do not belong in Original Development unless they bring something new and original to the table.

Yea I agree with that m8, i'm not saying where any of them belong, i'm just saying that that appears to be the way of it.
As intended roms in android development and non as intended roms in original, i'm not saying they're the rules, just that it seems that way, and as I said, looking over other forums on XDA it certainly tells a tale.

Nice article by a friend-

Sounds like they are mostly cosmetical, although choice is good of course. Hopefully we'll have both!

May the KANG be with you guys!
^_^
AOSP means android open source project.. Any rom that derivates from that it's an AOSP rom...
AOKP team named their rom that way implying that they are "kanging" AOSP like many people kangs cm7/9/10
Kang means cook a rom based on other people's work so in a way every rom its a "kang" from AOSP, even TW roms as TW its just a "skin" but under the hood its just plain and simple Android.
If a developer doesn't modify the AOSP code they would be releasing Google's roms Wich its stock Android.
But there's differences between cooking and developing and that's why you see 2 sections in development the original Wich should be developers whom modify and support roms straight from AOSP being able of actually fix bugs and issues and the regular development Wich its people that uses kitchens and scrips to create roms.. No actually developing code..
So at the end AOKP its a rom based on AOSP, as cm10 and every single rom that derivates from AOSP, go and check development section in galaxy nexus forum and you will see what's development.. There's no less than 100 different rom's all coded from AOSP.. AOSP is the mother of every rom that exist

The AOSP roms are often unofficial and are made by our cool developers, so there are some features that don't work. But those are usually fixed sooner or later

What are the newest most stable rom releases?

Hi
I must say I am a bit disconnected from the Android world since I get to university and I must ask how all have evolved. I'm looking for the newest most stable custom roms at the moment of this post. I think it would be a good idea to maintain a post like this to keep track of what roms have reached a stable, proven state without having to dig too much.
Cheers!

Well there's the RC4 build (release candidate 4) of cyanogen mod 10.1 that's quite good. Its based on android 4.2.2.
Take note that you should ask questions in the questions section and ROM discussions are generally frowned upon so do venture into the development section to learn more about them.

OOPS!! I forgot the Q&A section totally. I would like to move this post or delete it but I don't see how I should do it. The Edit/delete button just drives me to the edit section and I don't see any way of deleting the post.
No worries, a mod will lock or move this thread eventually

I recommend roms with Mackay kernel, they are often stable and durable in battery but less powerful than Devil kernel. By the way, no one has moved or deleted this post yet =))

2 development forums?

Just wondering why we have 2 different development forums? Seems they both have similar content but I have to go from one to the other and I'm not sure there's any reason for having both? Anyone else think this is annoying?
We have 2 one for AOSP based Roms and one for touch wiz roms. The one for touchwiz is Roms that are based on the phones original firmware. The other are based on stock android.

NO this is very wrong! Read the sticky in Original development. Only ROMs created from ground up like CM and AOKP are original. Any clone or cherry picked ROM does not belong in Original Development.

Also for kernels, ROMs with custom kernels, ROMs built from the ground up. Definitey not for someone who just follows CM's instructions on how to build from their source and they change one thing. That is not original. The huge misconception that one is for TW makes no sense on Google devices...then nothing should go in Android Development? The Original Development section was created to reward developers and teams who have created or modified 100's of lines of code and put a lot of original work into their release.

Sorry to ask for this, I know I should install and test for myself the rom,
But I just would like to know how is the battery life on this rom?
What about the power button? Does it work properly? Because I had this issue on android 4.3 based rom's.
And the camera? Clear images and sharper?
Thanks in advance!
Best Regards from Brazil
By the way, in my opinion android 4.2.2 is the most stable atm

Build that we currently have ported by Demetris is 4.2.2 and for me it is the best custom rom out there.Camera and battery are great even with stock app and stock kernel.Alwayse switching between MIUI and LiquidSmooth.Flash it and test is for couple of days yourself and see if you are satisfied.

It's even easier for YOU to test it yourself. Backup your current setup and flash it. Most of the mentioned bugs aren't even for everybody and it is actually quite hard for the devs to make a full list of bugs which occur for every single user.
If you don't agree with that it's your fault. The devs are doing an awesome job here and they do it because they want to.

In my honest opinion, bugs should be on the OP if they are known bugs. It's a matter of structure and information. But that's just me
From what I understood, carbon is a "fork" from Liquid and I think it's a compilation from source and not a port, right? If so, is it possible to compile Liquid from source as well ?
This question is for someone who knows or a developer

They stated that Carbon rom doesnt have anything to do with liquid team. Also if you look at title on older liquid builds by demetris you will see it says "Official" so i think it is possible to compile from source.Asked demetris long time ago about liquid future for our phone but still no answer.

No, they stated the following:
CarbonRom is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project. The team is composed of former members of Team Liquid who have forked the code in an attempt to bring greater speed, better coding, and full authorship to code. We are in no way affiliated with Liquid0624. The rom was forked at Liquid beta 3.2.1 and has since undergone major code changes and modifications.

They "forked" the code, although it was changed a LOT, a fork is a fork
Anyway, I'm gonna have a look later on see if Liquid can be compiled for our p880.

Far as I understood the source is published.
Will see what I can do during the weekend

And yeah, I agree, I'm pretty happy with CM10. 1.3. Although I do miss the privacy features from 4.3.
Mods can lock and delete this since demerits answered our prayers and ported new version.

Just a simple question... How come that development hasn't really started for this device yet? Are there any future plans except for cm, which, as i have read, is already officially planned?

The device isn't that popular actually. Not a lot of people have it. So development will definitely be slow compare to other devices.
You will just need to be patient.

You have CM 11 and KK with sense 6. Plus cm is already official. We have a kennel with dt2w. And HTC will release L for our phone. What else do you want?
PS you can start developing for this device. It's never too late
Learning great news, cm11 is now officially supported, thumbs up!
