What does your microphone key do on your droid 4 jellybean /ICS? - Motorola Droid 4

This is a discussion about the 'Hard Slide out keyboard'
I have not seen very many posts on this problem which leads me to believe it is not happening with all of the droid 4 jellybean.
on my device it will activate 'Google search' no matter what screen is being displayed.
I went directly from gingerbread to jellybean so i do not know if ICS had this problem
in gingerbread if i was in a text field the mic button on the hard keyboard would bring up 'Voice Recognition' Exactly what you would expect but i can not get it to do this on jellybean at all and have looked for a fix but have not found one.
If any one has a droid 4 on jellybean that can get the 'voice recognizer' to open when in a text field, could you please post here..
or let me know if this was available on ICS..
Thanks, Rich

Never really paid attention to that since i dont use this feature but after reading your post I tried to use it to post this reply. Unfortunately i could not get voice recognition to work on my device either.

What rom are you running or are you stock?
Sent with Carbon Strength for my Mazerati using Tapatalk 4

I am completely stock now. I will be rooting soon. Perhaps the reason I have not seen any other posts on this is most users that use the hard keyboard most likely do not use the voice recognizer. I rarely use it but there are a few times when it comes in handy. If I close the slide out I can get it to work with the soft keyboard but this is not a good option for me.

I dont see the "star_led" option anywhere when i open rootdim it asks for superuser and gets granted... then i see a slider bar that changes brightness of screen, then other lights has 4 options button-backlight camera:flash0 camera:flash1 and spotlight. I asume that button-backlight is the option to turn off the backlight on my capacative buttons but when i click that i get a trigger menu and i haven't been able to figure out how to use it properly, any help would be appreciated. my phone is lg p930 running cm10

You won't see the star_led option on a Nitro HD/Optimus LTE. I suggest you ask in the P930 forum or send the developer of rootdim a support request as this forum is for discussion on the P990

How would i go about locating the developer of rootdim to contact them?
also does rootdim settings stick after reboot? if not then i wouldn't bother i already have a way to turn the lights off it just doesn't stick after reboot. in order to turn them off i'm using the app "keyboard backlight controller" except like i said the settings dont stick after reboot. the reason i want them off is i had to replace my digitizer and the new digitizers lights are too bright. they drive me crazy and i obviously dont need lights to tell me where the back/home/menu buttons are.

Yeah, Ive had it on my deodexed .621/.605 rooted droid x for about 6 hrs now, its running smooth and in all honesty its the best ROM Ive ever used as far a WIFI connection goes. Every one I know that has the OG droid X had WiFi prob's including me, it always dropped you for no reason or on some Roms it wouldn't connect at all but I haven't dropped once since Ive been running this. I dont know what Kiladar did to this but whatever it is my WiFi is scared to break connection. :goodThanks BTW Kiladar):good:
As far as the rest of the Rom, it runs smooth and everything Ive opened or tried is working like a charm, the only thing that ive run across that doesnt work so good is the themes from theme chooser. It has a problem resizing the theme for my screen size but I dont think thats the Roms fault. You can still use them but not all of them will fit correctly (not so bad if you dont get the ones with writing on the background) I will see about getting you some screen shots when I have access to a camera. my GF is out of town at the moment and I dont have a way to take any pics but maybe ill try the mirror method and see if that comes out clear enough.
If you hold the power button you can take a screenshot from there just an fyi

Awesome! Thank you. Love it, works great. Hope to see 4.1
Anyone have a mirror or a link to something other than 4shared?
Just coming back to dx. This ROM is awesome. No hangs, reboots, or general bugs. I've had the camera crash when I locked the screen with it running, but it immediately started back up. Could never have done that without a reboot on other ROMs.

Let's Talk Hand Gestures!

Hi all. I'm normally not a big fan of starting threads, but because I'm sitting at work right now just wanting to play with my new phone, I might as well start a discussion.
So one of the coolest things about this phone for me so far are all the hand gestures. I know some of them are a little gimmicky, but there are also a couple of useful ones.
My favorites so far:
- Wake up your phone to show Time, missed calls or messages and battery by reaching towards your phone when asleep. Hint: If waving your hand towards the center doesn't initially wake it up, try bringing your open hand towards your sensor, then taking it away and then bringing your hand towards the sensor again. This feature will really come in handy in the middle of the night when I want to know what time it is.
- Take a screenshot by moving the side/palm of your hand across the screen. It's so much easier than trying to time the Home and Power buttons simultaneously.
What are your favorite gestures?
I thought we could use this thread for those who may need help figuring out these features as well. :good:
For some reason I cannot get my phone to switch tracks when I wave my hand. Do I have to be using the stock player for this to occur?

I'm not 100% on this, but I'm guessing that yes, it must be the stock player.
most of the hand gestures have been working on the note 2 for months now, so im not in awe of any...although the page scrolling sure seems like it might come in handy from time to time...

Lay your phone on a flat surface and with a flat hand reach towards the phone and then pull it back. Your blue notification light should quickly go on and then the screen will light up with the information.
I'm at work and can't access YouTube, but I think there's a video on it too. If you're still having trouble, I can try to link a video when I get home.

One of the more useful gestures, IMO, is the moving an app/widget to a different screen. To achieve it, hold an icon with your left thumb, wave your right hand over the sensors from the left to right or vice versa to change the screen.
these actually really come in handy for me when my hands are dirty. i do a lot of work on my cars and im not really a fan of getting grease all over the screen and these save me a lot of hassle. i never even thought i would use them at first.

Does it have gestures for rejecting a call like flipping off? Can you have and appropriate gesture assigned to go to a browser bookmark or URL or play a video? Sorry, saw the topic title and I couldn't resist. Lol

Working for Me!
Sorry, I'm a bit late to this thread. I have the Galaxy S4 and I can't guarantee it will work for the Note 3, but I was experiencing this same issue and was able to fix it by simply checking the "open via the home key" in S-Voice. Hope this helps someone else experiencing issues.
Wow! This waa driving me insane. I had it working perfectly on my Note 2 ans when I set up my Note 4 I had the recent apps list showing when I double tapped the home key. Then I started checking out rhe device and out of nowhere, the double tap stopped working. I can't tell you how much time I've spent on it. I eveb sat there with my Note 2 and compared every single setting and they were identical to one another. The second I read your response I literally face palmed myself. I vividly remember unchecking the box as I waa going through the settings because I wasn't using it anyway and it was around the same time it stopped working. It goes without saying that it was tbe issue. I suppose it needs to be set in order to be manipulated by GB. Sorry for the long post but I'm thrilled to have it working and wanted you to know you helped.

Man i registered on this forum only to say THANK YOU SO MUCH! That's genious, i would never ever remember i turned this feature off in S Voice on my Galaxy Note 3 SM9005 and that it can affect doubletap. CM11 Keyboard Dock and Mouse problem

I was curious if anyone else has stumbled across the issue I am having with my TF701. I upgraded to CM11 and installed the GAPPS with no issue and the ROM works quite well. However the ASUS keyboard dock now has some dead keys i.e. WIFI Toggle, Bluetooth Toggle, Disable Mousepad Toggle, Auto Screen Brightness, Screenshot, and Settings Hotkey. Is there any way to fix this? I have tried editing the Keyboard.kl files with no results. I also extracted the ASUS keyboard.apk but it will not install. I also tried putting it in the sys/apps/ folder and editing it's permissions to match all the other apps but no result.
Lastly I have a BT Mouse which connects well but the native behaviour of the Mouse in CM11 is different than when I was running JB. When on JB a left click was the same as a screen touch and a right click was back. on CM11 both buttons are standard screen touch. Is there a way to remap this? I moved to CM11 because the native firmware has some antenna issues. When streaming audio to a BT device the internet dies. on CM11 this issue seems to be fixed due to its custom Kernel (I assume) but these other functions are also important to me. Any ideas????
As far as I have read the extra keys don't work in CM as it has something to do with the kernel. The CM developer doesn't have a dock so hasn't been able to really look into fixing it. He is working on getting a dock eventually.
I know nothing about the mouse however I would guess it is the same thing as stock dock touchpad works as you would like however it does not on CM.
