Has anyone had luck with signal boosters on the dinc and or know of a good one?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
The stick on types are bogus.
You can purchase a signal booster from Verizon, but they are $199 (or $99 after rebate) but require a subscription to use as well.

There are other products as well, but they are typically north of $150 as well.

it doesnt require a subscription lol
Think it was the AT&T one that did.
Not a bad deal, especially if you have a number of phones and a weak signal.
not sure that is what he was looking for though.
Think he was really asking about something you can attach to the phone itself.
Either attach or stationary. I get horrible signal at work and just need something to setup on my desk for better signal.

I have Verizon signal booster. It just broke so I need to send it in. It works great in my house within 20'. Farther than that its no better than a regular signal. The thing I hate about it is, if your talking on the phone and walk out of range it will drop your call. I do it walking out in my back yard by the pool and if I get into my truck and drive out of my driveway it drops the call. I have a home office and it does help while in it but no where else. I have very mixed feeling about it...

ask your work if you can connect your phone to their wifi network, free signal...
I work for a large corporation who has a closed network and religiously watches bandwidth usage. Can't use the wifi. Sadly a booster is my only option. I may just make one this weekend.

If you're only getting 20' range on your booster, then it had a problem long before it 'broke'. I have mine set up in my basement, and I get 5 bars anywhere in my house (and that's well over 20'. It's set up in a location that also lets it cover my front yard, and well into my neighbor across the street's front yard as well (I REALLY need to get it set up in private mode). The signal drops in my back yard to about half, but I live on a hill, so some of the signal is being blocked by the ground between the phone and extender. Between that and my Wifi at home, I'm more than pleased with my box.
I will agree with the dropping of calls when you go out of range though, but that's the nature of the beast and can't be helped. You can't switch from a Voip-based call over to a cell tower, at least not with current tech...
I am going to try another one (sending this one back) and hopefully it works better. My WiFi n router also suffers from significant signal loss too. I always kid that our house is built on an old Indian burial ground. I do live in Arizona... Hummmm

I'm in Arizona.... The spirits around here lift my signals higher... you must have bad mojo...
The Verizon booster looks pretty cool, but I don't need one, signals here are great even at work though we don't have WiFi at work due to PCI compliance issues.
Just a personal opinion possibly turned RANT!
Please people... just say NO to femtocell signal boosters... they are the most insulting rip off ever offered.
Call Verizon and complain about your signal where you live... do it every few months until they do something and guess what... they usually will.
Why pay them (a lot) your greenbacks for a piece of hardware to make up for their poor coverage in your area?
Why pay them (a lot) so they can use YOUR already expensive broadband on the expensive hardware to make up for their poor coverage?
Why pay them (a lot) so they can STILL CHARGE YOU MINUTES when you use the expensive hardware that works on the broadband you are paying for???
I know that some people feel they must have it... but seriously, this is a principle worth standing up for... this is like letting our government give us higher taxes... the government and Big Red (a company I like BTW) has got enough of our money... make them get the job done with what they have!
Thanks for listening so respectfully... I'm all done here
The ONLY way they can fix the signal where I live, would be to put a cell tower in my front yard. I currently don't WANT a cell tower in my front yard, so the femtocell will do nicely.
Also, my work paid for it, so it's no cash out of my pocket, they pay for my cell, so again, no cash out of MY pocket. 99% of the time, my outbound internet bandwidth sits unused, so it's no big deal there either.
Also, with the current sale, it's only 99.99 after the rebate, so it's not THAT expensive...

Wilson Electronics and a few others make a device, actually made for mobile use but works great if altered for home. It comes with a mag mount antenna for the top of the car and a dome type for inside the vehicle. I have a 12db gain wilson antenna on a pole up high and a mag mount inside the house, and a 12 volt power supply. Works great for everyone near me and even repeats EVDO ;-)

can you explain a little more detail about how you did that? I went to the site and the mobile attenna had to be connected with the amplifer and then the amplifer had to be connected to the phone. I got lost real quick. But i got some ****ty service and would like to do something like that.
hello peeps,
i'm looking for a wireless router with decent range. Currently i have a netgear WGT624 hooked up to a ps3 + 2-3 wifi devices at any given time. The performance is so so if im in the same room but goes down drastically if i go to my bedroom thats's about 60 feet from the router with a wall and a hallway in the middle. Actually, it's almost impossible to get a fix in that room.
I dont plan on spending more than $80. What options do i have?
Thanks!
Wut, i have 7 devices connected to my router, and it is on the second floor, and the floor is made of concrete. I don't have any problems with it, and the router is a POS that i got for free from my ISP. The router is a Inteno X5671.
yup i know it's pretty bad and hence my search for a new router. It sucks cuz it seems like there is no perfect router out there. Every router i look at has just as many negative reviews as any other router

Yes, mine also drops from full bars to 1 bar when I hold it like that. No squeezing necessary. With a case the problem is still there but not quite as bad. Regardless, it's not enough to really have any noticeable impact
I've been told by multiple people that I've spoken to that I am "distant sounding" or "hard to hear" and I've been talking for years at home/work on my old phone without trouble. I naturally tried holding my phone with just the index finger and thumb on the edges and this has seemed to help, but I knew nothing about the ONE having problems, just a prior knowledge of antenna-gate.
Today we have this post and YouTube video and I can confirm what is being seen. More specifically though I go from -90 here inside a building with the two-finger grip and I go down to -105 when I palm it like in the video (no squeezing), as I normally hold it when talking on the phone.

Update, additional info:
I was able to try with two co-worker's phones, both on Sprint. One of them an older HTC model, another from Motorola.
Both exhibit noticable signal drop from "cupping" the bottom of the phone with a grip like this.
Yeah.. I returned my One because of reception issues, mainly 4G...Voice seemed fine but 4G dropping to 3G killed this wonderful phone for me.. When my area is better saturated in LTE I will be buying the One again unless another phone is set to come out around that time.. Damn I miss that I.R. Blaster..

I am also noticing a drop in 3G (5 bars down to 2) when I rest my palm against the bottom left corner of the phone. (San Diego area) I do, unfortunately, hold my phone this way, so I'll have to change that habit!
mine does it too. However, my hand is rarely at that corner so I can deal with it for now

Extensive testing on my own showed that the signal bar up top is mostly meaningless. A single bar when gripping the phone resulted in no measurable loss in 3G speeds nor phone call quality, after repeating the test several times, compared to 5 bars. I was also able to make calls (and drop them) in the same areas as before, thus no perceived loss in range.

this thread is funny. seeing as how this is a developers site, and every is acting like users
i kid i kid.
but no, seriously... why is everyone looking at bars? forget the bars... stop being lazy and gave me your dbms!
for example, if you are at -45, and you 'apple-hold' it, and it goes to -120dbm, then we have issues. If it goes to -59dbm, then stop complaining, as many users have noted, bars mean nothing, not even in in-call quality terms. Those bars, to us... only indicate 1x signal. Remember we are using the HD Voice stuff now... which, unless I am wrong, operate on the 800mhz spectrum or something like that. not quite sure about that last part so don't quote me; im a little 'foggy atm' to be light. but certainly, bars mean nothing...
Slight update, using ##DEBUG#, in the 1x section, the signal goes from ~85dbm to ~113dm... so i guess that's bad, except for #1, it was already bad to begin with #2, big whoop its only 1X... anyway, ##INFO# isnt working so im looking for a dbm monitor as we speak. ill report back
Update:
Ok, the app is called Network Signal Info, by Kabits Software. It is really good, and free, and in the Play store. There is indeed a drop in my EHRPD connectoin (3g). It goes from ~83dbm to ~103dbm. Which is a drop of ~20dmbs. A little less drastic than the 1X drop of ~30dbm... But still may (keyword) be noticeable in certain situations, if you hold it a certain way. So, yea... It certainly happens, but I don't see it as an emergency problem, though it should be addressed by HTC at some point. This was done in my room, where reception is not the purdiest. Ill go outside.
Bars or no bars.. For me it was simple.. I didn't have 4G in areas with the One that I did with my other phone.. So it went back.

Hey Brian, just as an FYI, I called Sprint yesterday to complain about the lack of anything in Central Florida, and two things came up. First, I received a $15.00 credit, and second, they're saying that (this is obvious) they're working on LTE in the area. Taken with a grain of salt, they said they're anticipating a release this summer for LTE in our area. Fingers crossed.

I'm just taking it in stride man..Im up and down about it and get close to leaving now and again but thinking about what the network is going to become keeps me from doing anything stupid...I don't even really care about LTE anymore,I just need a decent connection with decent speeds consistently(1.5-2.0Mb/sec)..Sad that in order to keep this HTC One from freaking out with all the driving I do I had to leave it set on CDMA Only so it doesn't try to connect to to weak 4G Signal areas(switching from 3G to 4G and back to 3G is so slow on this phone)
I had a chat with Sprint a few days/maybe a week ago..And they said the issues i'm having are because of the tower being worked on 4th street behind AOK Tires..Well that's BS because I drive by that tower every day heading out to the office and it has NOT been touched.Old legacy cabinets still in place/no workers/no panels and s4Gru also shows no work being done on any towers currently in Apopka.

There is no offical LTE in Orlando and that they are doing full network upgrades... This requires them to screw with the towers for some time.
As for the comment about "I don't see any tower work"... Most of the tower work is done at the base. The only tower upgrade is when they install Network Vision (replace the copper up to the cell with fiber and replace the base modules). So even when they are doing a network vision, the only "visible" upgrade is when they are replacing the copper. http://newsroom.sprint.com/press_kits.cfm?presskit_id=19
Just be happy you can get LTE anywhere in an unofficial market... I am in Tallahassee and we still barely have 3g eventho we are on the LTE rollout list.

That's all fine and dandy that they're working on the upgrades now and that's why the speeds are slow. But for as long as I can remember, I've never had a good speed with Sprint. I'd hit a spot once in a while that would put me close or over 1mbps, but every other time, it's literally below .5mbps. It's ridiculous.

That is about standard for half max distance from the tower... The theoretical Rev. A high is based upon a high SNR (that was never really achievable at distance with copper).
really? before they started working on lte I always got fantastic speeds. When I got my OG Evo I pulled 2-3 mbps on 3g, and 5-20 on wimax. I really only get pissed when they are working on towers in my area, then my connection drops to .2-.5mbps, but I stay because after its done Im back to the good old 3g speeds, and 10-30 mbps on LTE. I love sprint, and most of all I love my unlimited data. I know youve heard it 1000 times, but hold on, its getting a lot better.

That is max burst (not sustainable). There is a lot to it, but one of the main things is degredation of the SNR (which is why they switched from copper to fiber). Also channel interference. Most users will experience between 500 - 1000 kbit sustained speeds. You are also limited by the reverse link when submitted requests.
All I got to say is if the reason my speeds are so bad is because they are working on towers in my area. Then it's been one hell of a process upgrading 1 single tower for over 3 years.

Background:
I have a Tmobile Note 3 on AT&T and all the APN settings for LTE are set accordingly. I do get LTE (see the little symbol in the status bar) and speeds are okay for the most part... but...
Issue:
I am over my buddy's house, he has a ATT Note 2 on ATT. We are checking speeds with the Speedtest, net App from the Play Store. His phone gets incredible speeds, averaging about 50mbps. My TMON3 gets 30mbps average and we tested it multiple times. We are using the same server, so that's not the issue. And we are literally a foot away from each other in his house. Then I start to notice something weird. When I go to the change server screen in the Speedtest app, the same server in Plainfield, NJ shows on my phone is 71 miles away. On his phone it says 52 miles away. Again, we are literally sitting next to each other. Then I look at the server list and there are servers on his phone that don't appear on my phone.
Also, I noticed when he loads the app for the first time, it locates the closest server much a bit faster than my phone does.
What gives?
I don't have any problems (at least not that I know of) with the GPS. The maps and navigation work fine and are very accurate.
I could be wrong, but I am speculating it is a tower issue where my phone isn't hooking on to the closest tower, since the server location seems further away to the Speedtest App. That's my guess anyway. Anyone else have a similar issue?
Same here. I think it has something to do with the routing of the internet through the hub for your area though as to what servers it's thinks are closest. Either way I have signal problems at work while my buddy sitting next to me on his note 3 (also AT&T) does not. Checked the cid and they are different. I'm thinking this means we are connected to different towers possibly. This is driving me nuts...

Is your phone an AT&T Note 3 or Tmobile? The reason why I ask is I thought maybe this could be resolved with the build.prop mod posted by TEKHD.

What gives?

I think know you 2 need to hug to get the exact result. 1 foot is too far away.

We tried that too. We even tried wearing the same pair of pants. I put my leg in one pant leg and he put his in the other. Still had a difference in signal. I was thinking about even taking a bath together, but then I thought that probably alittle too much. Plus it's not like we can take baths together all the time.
Maybe you need to root him

I'm almost willing to bet if you try it at different times, perhaps reboot your phones at the same time you will get similar or vise versa results.

Good point mentioned about Cell ID. I just checked my wifes, she has ATT Note 3 and I have T mobile they showed the same.
I hope you manage to get this issue resolved as it would drive me insane, since network signal is main priority here.

I gave up out of frustration today. Went to AT&T for an exchange. First one they brought out was the same 10-15 dbm worse than the 2 display models connected on the same tower. I asked the sales guy to get another one and that I wouldn't accept that one for that very reason. Second one he brought out was much better. Display and my note 3 side by side were at 84dbm. My first one rarely got better than 100dbm. I walked out a happy customer the salesman was annoyed to say the least

Remember that it doesn't have to do with proximity to a tower. Getting high LTE speeds involves being within a mesh of several towers to achieve high speeds. I bet if you run multiple tests, you'll get varying results.

True dat. I always thought my slower than others lte speeds were because my signal was poor. Got close to the cell tower with full bars and speeds were the same.
