Hello XDA. A couple weeks ago I accidentally rooted my moto x via pwnmymoto. Accidentally because I installed the app, but didn't press setup. But then while I was in the app my phone rebooted, then again, then again. But then I got root checker and it said I have proper root access. USC is going to be having kit kat OTA soon. Basically I'm just wondering what I should do. I'd like to unroot before kit kat comes but the only way I've seen so far is by using fastboot and reinstalling stock via computer. Please let me know what I should do and if there is any easier way to unroot.

you can just restore the stock recovery and the OTA will overwrite the root unless of course you've removed any system files or apps, in which case OTA will fail.
You can restore the stock recovery in fastboot.
I tried using a root app today and my Moto X says it isn't rooted anymore. I have no clue what happened. I was rooted yesterday.
Are u in jellybean or KitKat?

I agree with previous Poster
If you was on Kit-Kat/Jellybean are you check settings/about phone/Android Version
iF you was on 4.4 are you now on 4.4.2 because apparently there is some new OTA rolling out to some phones
Does it come back after you reboot the phone? If so it could be a write protection problem. I was having problems with my phone "losing root" like every few days and it turns out it was a write protection problem.
You may want to check out MotoWpNoMo @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2551113
I'm on a non-dev Verizon and am rooted with 4.4. I don't want to upgrade and lose my root (re-enable WP, that is), so I've been delaying it by a day every time it shows. If I just want to stay on 4.4, how do I cancel the OTA notification?
Correct me if I'm wrong but... If you're not on the stock recovery, it will download the OTA but fail to flash which in return prevents it from asking for another OTA attempt. At least that's my experience from other phones.

I did that once, and it stopped asking. But within a day or so it had downloaded the OTA again and began notifying me again.
Freeze Motorola ota app.

I am in a similar boat as you. My 4.4 is setup and working great. One of these days I will update to 4.4.2 through a rooted SafeStrap install. However, I don't have enough benefit at the moment to do so and risk loosing root, etc.
To disable the damn annoying update prompt I have frozen FOTA and MotorolaOTA using TitaniumBackup.
Other unrelated apps frozen is AT&T Locker, Motorola Migrate, myAT&T, Visual Voicemail.
What is FOTA?
Did you bother to search?
There are few threads I've seen about that. Search for it.

If you are rooted, use a file manager/explorer with root compatibility (like Root Explorer), navigate to /system/priv-app and rename 3C_OTA.APK to something like 3C_OTA.APK.BAK and restart your phone.
If the OTA ZIP has already downloaded, you also want to navigate to /cache and find/delete the update ZIP file.
Should you ever want to take the OTA in the future, you'll just need to "undo" the rename.
Hi all.
I had my Z1s rooted and decided to do the upgrade to Kit Kat. Download went well but on reboot it went into Recovery. I chose reboot system which started the phone but made me loose root while not upgrading me.
I downloaded Kit Kat again with the same thing going on and it happened a 3rd time. Upon opening my screen after every attempt I have the error message that the update could not install and that I need to try again.
Not sure what to do now as I have an unrooted 4.3 phone now that is not allowing the update.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Doc

Sorry about that
OTA update?

Yes, I tried doing it OTA instead of computer.
Also, I have noticed that I have the "fail notice" stuck in notice bar even on reboot.

OTA update will not work if you are rooted and/or have custom recovery.
You can only use pc

Didn't know that. Will do.
Should I re root first or root after update? I have SuperSu Pro which should allow me to keep root on upgrade.
Thanks

How did you get root on that phone at all? I have z1s C6916 and I can't achieve root if my life depended on it.
What root exploit did you use?
Thanks in advance.

I used the Jcase method posted here in the forum. The main thing is to make sure USB debugging is turned on.

USB Debugging was on. Just wondering also, do you have the Xperia z1s C6916 version? Maybe you have a different version and that's why you were able to achieve root and I am not.

I have the C6916 which T-Mobile sells. Don't know why the method doesn't work for you.
About root, I don't know will root will still remain after update (probably not)
And also don't know if newest one is rootable.

From what I have read root can remain using SuperSu Pro. There is also a method of rooting after the update listed here in the forums.
I meant reroot possible? It was a question. Accidentally out a period on the end.
Newbie mistakenly installed update and lost root.
I was already on 4.4.4 rooted. Received an update notification from AT&T. I pressed on update. Everything came back up but lost root. I'm I able to root without going back to 4.4.2?
Thanks in advance.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the only way to root 4.4.4 is to go back to 4.4.2 and then follow the 4.4.4 root upgrade guide posted in I believe the general section it's actually pretty easy but does make it harder to use safestrap if you use that very often.
It's easy but unfortunately to resetup my phone is very time consuming.
I spent a lot of time removing apps, adding apps and configuring.

This is your only option(at this time) for root on 4.4.4

Thanks. That's the procedure I used to get my phone rooted to 4.4.4. Like I mention, I was already rooted with 4.4.4 and installed a OTA update which unrooted my phone. At the moment, it sounds like I have to lose all the work I've done on my phone and start over unless I'm missing something.
