I meant reroot possible? It was a question. Accidentally out a period on the end.
Newbie mistakenly installed update and lost root.
I was already on 4.4.4 rooted. Received an update notification from AT&T. I pressed on update. Everything came back up but lost root. I'm I able to root without going back to 4.4.2?
Thanks in advance.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the only way to root 4.4.4 is to go back to 4.4.2 and then follow the 4.4.4 root upgrade guide posted in I believe the general section it's actually pretty easy but does make it harder to use safestrap if you use that very often.
It's easy but unfortunately to resetup my phone is very time consuming.
I spent a lot of time removing apps, adding apps and configuring.

This is your only option(at this time) for root on 4.4.4

Thanks. That's the procedure I used to get my phone rooted to 4.4.4. Like I mention, I was already rooted with 4.4.4 and installed a OTA update which unrooted my phone. At the moment, it sounds like I have to lose all the work I've done on my phone and start over unless I'm missing something.

I just got an update notification on my rooted note 3. Last time this happened it eventually just decided to update all by itself without my intervention. Will root keeper or the superuser ota saver save my root?
Will the update even go through this time around with a rooted phone?
Thanks.

That's actually not true. I got the update even though I was rooted, and so did half the people on this forum. No disrespect.

Then use Titanium Backup to freeze AT&T Software update. I've done those two things and so far I have not received any update notifications.
Hi all.
I had my Z1s rooted and decided to do the upgrade to Kit Kat. Download went well but on reboot it went into Recovery. I chose reboot system which started the phone but made me loose root while not upgrading me.
I downloaded Kit Kat again with the same thing going on and it happened a 3rd time. Upon opening my screen after every attempt I have the error message that the update could not install and that I need to try again.
Not sure what to do now as I have an unrooted 4.3 phone now that is not allowing the update.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Doc

Yes, I tried doing it OTA instead of computer.
Also, I have noticed that I have the "fail notice" stuck in notice bar even on reboot.

OTA update will not work if you are rooted and/or have custom recovery.
You can only use pc

Didn't know that. Will do.
Should I re root first or root after update? I have SuperSu Pro which should allow me to keep root on upgrade.
Thanks

How did you get root on that phone at all? I have z1s C6916 and I can't achieve root if my life depended on it.
What root exploit did you use?
Thanks in advance.

I used the Jcase method posted here in the forum. The main thing is to make sure USB debugging is turned on.

USB Debugging was on. Just wondering also, do you have the Xperia z1s C6916 version? Maybe you have a different version and that's why you were able to achieve root and I am not.

I have the C6916 which T-Mobile sells. Don't know why the method doesn't work for you.
About root, I don't know will root will still remain after update (probably not)
And also don't know if newest one is rootable.

From what I have read root can remain using SuperSu Pro. There is also a method of rooting after the update listed here in the forums.
Ok so many of us have successfully rooted our devices and frozen update and renamed security files to avoid losing our root.
What are the proper steps for Dummies like me to accept the Lollipop OTA in December without losing my data?
Also now 4.4.4 is anounced with Bluetooth fixes that I have noticed while streaming
(My gut tells me keep update frozen until a flashable rooted 5.0.)
It was said in another thread NOT to take the 5.0 update until a root method for it has been established. If you wanna keep root, I'd wait. I'm still running stock rooted AND3 firmware/kernel. I'm looking to get the newest update up to today (I think ANG3 or something of that nature.) I'm just not taking updates yet so I can keep my root. I'm having problems with the phone freezing and restarting though so I'd like an update.

I am stock rooted with ANG3 pre-installed on my purchased S5. It runs smooth as silk if you use the method posted by muniz_ri in general. All I've done is turned off or frozen some bloatware and installed Chainfire SU 2.16.
My question was more geared towards the person who might want to go from rooted to the lastest OTA without losing data etc. I have been diving in pretty deep to the AT&T side of XDA since leaving sprint a week ago and I think the answer might have been posted by shortydoggg with the soft-bricked thread.
I was hoping someone might be able to tell me a non odin 3.09+ way to remove the freeze on my apps in the correct order to take the OTA without tripping KNOX if I wanted to do that knowing I might loose root.
I thought we might be able to follow muniz_ri and odin the one file back towelroot again after.
Basically I like stock always have, but I want root also for AdAway Titanium Backup Etc. and being a truck driver I wanted the 4.4.4 Bluetooth fix for Iheart radio.

It's hard to say what the best approach will be until the update arrives. In the case of 4.4.4, I'm rather confident that a somewhat simple method can be developed to take the update while keeping root. As for 5.0, I have some ideas none ideal but we'll see.
Is Android 4.4.4 for the AT&T version of the Galaxy S5 out? I have a Galaxy S5 AT&T phone but I don't have AT&T service. I am running Android 4.4.2 with build version ND3 is there something newer than this?
Updating to NG3
Het guys, so today I got ahold of Odin 3.09 and the NG3 update, I applied it through Odin in the AP slot and it DID NOT update my phone to NG3. My Baseband still says AND3 and kernel is 3.4.0-2178781
Tue Jul 22 13:58:46 KST 2014. Anybody have any options i can use without having to downgrade to NCE just to upgrade? LOL...Im kinda at a loss,Ive tried it in download mode twice now and no fu go.
Plz disregard my message. I'm good now and running rooted NG3.
I rooted my phone a while back (Note 3) and have Safestrap on it. I checked with root verify and it says it is rooted.
I want to be able to do OTA updates as I don't really want to be rooted any longer or have safestrap on my phone.
Is there a EASY way to remove both/all of it so I no longer get the safestrap screen when it comes on that has the unlocked symbol at the bottom of it. And no longer have a rooted phone ?
Easy way, preferred as I stated before..
Saw this and giving it a try ! ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/help/4-4-4-ota-failed-27-t2949069
Well used Super Su, it says I am no longer rooted. But safestrap still shows on start up
And after I did that I checked for a update. It shows v4.2.2 and no available updates ? WTH.... It showed a update before...
Idk either I unrooted and uninstalled safestrap and factory reset my update trys 2times both times says updated failed
is safestrap realy there. i had the same problem and installed traingle away and it removed the safestrap screen.
To Un-root your phone
You'll need to use Odin. After using Odin it will still say custom after the first boot, just re-boot and you'll be good.
I used Super SU, and unrooted. Did check and it says I am not rooted.
But I think the reason it is failing to install 4.4.4 OTA update, is that the safestrap is interfering with the installation..
So if I want to get safestrap completely off of my phone how do I do that > I have been searching the forum, and still searching,,,
Trying to find Stock Recovery Files for the SM-N900A 4.v if possible.
Then I can install via odin ?
Thanks..
Is back to full stock, but I can't update for 14 more hours.
Wish there was a way to push the update..

Lol you might as well not be on xda if you going to go stock with no root. 4.4.4 OTA official is like a death sentence right now. And you will be hitting your forhead wishing you didnt do that later.
But to answer your question, just uninstall safestrap from the app, and use supersu for full unroot. Or just Odin back with NC2 tar files from the threads. Odin back to NC2 should be no problems with the OTA

Well when I had my other Samsung phone I use to install updates all the time, different roms or what ever.
But now I just want to be stock, and knew all the people on this forum do it a lot. So this is where I asked for help...
It is on 4.4.2 and says now that no update is available ? I have already tried the date change trick ! Strange I can't get a update now...Wonder why ?
Now it says I can check again in 735 hours ?

That is kinda weird in SuperSU did you disable OTA updates?!? But y you want stock 4.4.4 rom, as AT&T note 3 users there may not b a root or boot rom walk around for long time maybe even tell lollipop 5.0 or maybe never cause note 3 has been dead silence since 4.4.4 released almost like people stop using this device an goin to the note 4... Hopefully there will b a note 3 bootloader exploit for AT&T an verizon but idk again looks like main force is note 4
Well not sure how to fix it.
I have unrooted, removed safestrap.
Checked with root app and it says it is not rooted.
But it still won't update.
Took to AT&T tech center after on-line help from them didn't help. He was not able to update it. So I went to Bestbuys Samsung tech section. They hooked it up to their Smart update software, and it would not allow to be updated either. They said it was either rooted or had a foreign version of software on it. Or one of the software apps I had installed was messing it up.
So I again did a hard reset all the way back to stock ? And after setting up as a new phone I did a check for update 4.4.2 was on it and it said no update available......
SO WHAT IS GOING ON ? Is there a 4.4.4v that I can install with the odin, so that hopefully I can get over this bump..,, ?
I am rooted on 4.4.2 on the N900A Note 3 for AT&T and I disabled the OTA notifications a long time ago to prevent breaking root and upgrading to 4.4.4. Now that the Lollipop update is available I would like to re-enable the OTA but when I go to the Application Manager then the Turned Off section, the AT&T Software update is listed but the Turn off button is greyed out and I can't turn it back on. Any suggestions? Please!
Did you freezed the app by using App Quarantine or another root app to disable it? I just re-enabled mine using App Quarantine.
Did you use Titanium Backup or something to freeze it? If so try unfreezing it there. Unless you Odin back to full stock the update will likely fail anyway though, even if you've unrooted. I would wait a day or two, there's a theoretical chance that the method of having root on 4.4.4 will work again (Be on a version Safestrap supports, flash a prerooted version of the ROM through that, then update the low level stuff via Odin)
Thank you both for replying... I have no idea what I did. I have Titanium Backup installed but I do not see a freeze feature. If I used a different app to freeze it will App Quarantine still unfreeze it? If so I'll try that. I no longer need root.
Even if you unfreeze it'll still likely fail out somewhere around 27% for ever being rooted, even if you unroot. You'll almost certainly have to Odin back to stock and take the OTAs in between, may as well wait for someone to post the Odin files for L so you can do it in one step I figure. If you do want to defrost it should work with anything that has that capability, for Titanium you click on the specific package and it should be the middle of the top row on the default Backup Properties tab, says Defrost
I can say neoman is absolutely correct. My phone is rooted and has 4.4.2. It downloaded the Lollipop 5.0 update today from AT&T but failed during installing. Main reason I rooted the phone was to overcome their Kitkat external SD Card issue. Now they fixed the issue with Lollipop but I can't update. I blame them on that .
I wonder if updating to 4.4.4 first will allow me to update to 5.0? The reason is I don't want to lose any current data or apps or settings. I still have a copy of the 4.4.4 downloaded ota earlier but never installed.
Bottomline is I want to update to 5.0 without losing data.
You'll absolutely have to Odin back to stock NC2 before trying to update to 5.0

Is there an external download source for the Lollipop ROM to install via ODIN yet?
You can also Odin to stock NL1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2999317
Typically if you're careful and you know everything you did with root, you can reverse and update... I did this a few times
