Recently I had to hard reset my phone.. so I thought since I'm hard resetting anyways, why not try a new ROM..
So I installed the new ROM and Blackberry connect doesn't seem to work.. so I had a sprite backup when I had my old ROM.. but now I have a different ROM.. will it be okay if I restored my backup with my old ROM? or is that a bad idea?
sorry this was posted in another section and no one seems to be replying.. maybe I posted in the wrong section? I don't know.. but I didn't get any response and I need urgent help.. because I don't know how many important emails I'm missing now..

Never restore a full backup from one rom to another. Only restore a full backup to the same rom (and same version even). The reason for this is your full backup will put the registry entries from the old rom onto the new one. Well most likely that won't match up (ie: WM6 entries in places are different than WM6.1 entries. And fixes made in a Dutty's rom aren't the same as in Confused Stu's or someone elses since each are different etc).
Okay, thanks a lot! that was a fast response.
Hi.
I have upgraded my phone with htc windows mobile 6.1
I have reinstalled original Sprite backup 5.1 shipped with the phone. I have followed the instructions to restore my latest back up with the added upgrade exe. from sprite site
The first time I tried my phone was frozen for over an hour until I restarted.
Second time reboot with a white and black screen scared the crap out me!
Third attempt phone freezes at my contacts
Any help will be awesome

Wish I had a better answer for you, but when upgrading a ROM, assuming that you've upgraded from WM6.0 to WM6.1, it is not recommended to restore backups or problems such as what you've encountered *WILL* occur.
You will just need to install everything from scratch. Try out Tiermann's TierAutoinstall, Bengalih's SASHIMI or Sleuth255's User Customization for semi-automated installation. Search for it and you will find it!
I was try many software for backup whit my HTC TyTN II whit WM 6.1 like Sprite backup, HTC backup, SPB Backup and another cant remenber.
The only one work fine is the Resco Backup software.

Downgrade back to your original ROM, restore your backup and then sync your PDA with your computer so that your contacts are stored there. Copy off anything else before upgrading back to WM6.1. Once WM6.1 is on, sync with your computer again and contacts, emails, etc will be synced to your PDA. Then start re-installing your apps.
Long and tedious process unfortunately...

Thanks for the tip I just did it before your post and I got back my contacts!
If i update to the latest ROM (1.93), will i then lose all my data and settings? I have tweaked the phone a lil with advanced config. And added a few programs, and some are on internal storage and others on the phone itself. Im only going to update if it changes NOTHING but the updated stuff. I want to keep my tweaks, settings, programs, EXACTLY as it is. If thats not possible, then the update system sucks imo. Ill leave it as it is, cuz it took too much time tweaking every setting to suit me in the first place.
Ive recently updated my phone to the 1.93 WWE rom and it will remove all your settings from your device.
Your 4gb internal storage will be untouched (provided you follow the instructions and format your phones memory only and not the internal storage) youll be fine.
I found that programs like the Diamond Tweaker help getting the Diamond back to how I had it, altho I did do a Sprite backup, which restored all my texts and contacts, phew, so thats what was important to me. (There are options in the Sprite Backup software to backup only certain things on your phone so you can pick and choose what you like)
1.93 does have a significant speed improvement and im very happy i did upgrade (just gotta get rid of the email notification on the touchflo3D screen as it didnt back these up correctly as it says i have emails when the account isnt there)
But thats not a major issue and i haven't really looked indepth for a fix for that (im sure there is one, thats the beauty of the Diamond, there's usually a fix...somewhere!)
hehe!
If your not happy with having to restore you phone back to how you have it I dont blame you for leaving it as it is. Good luck with whatever you decide!
use sprite backup and restore using upgrade mode (level 1) all your apps/settings/preferences/pim etc will remain so long as your device doesnt change.

Nice one! Thanks for that. Will remember that for the next time I flash my Diamond.
You do have to watch out if you have the Call History tab add on for Touchflow that I found in the Diamond Forum as there are 2 different versions one for 1.37 roms and another for 1.93. I did try using the Sprite Backup software which restored everything but my clock was going mental.
Hard Reset the phone and then just restored my contacts and everthing's fine now. I will stress thats an add on problem and not a Sprite Backup issue.
Thanks for the heads up darthblane2k
im not sure if its a special version of sprite - but its certainly the one on the HTC e-club website.
A level 1 restore is if you are upgrading the ROM on the same device
A Level 2 restore is if you are upgrading the ROM on another diamond device
A Level 3 restore is if you are changing to another model device and only want basic info, eg PIM and stuff
Thank you all for your help. So what i have to do now is, download sprite backup from e-club? Back everything up, and then update to ROM 1.93 and then restore level 1, right?

Yes, you restore in ROM Upgrade mode. Think you have to change a setting in Sprite restore options to set it to level 1. Also you have the option to restore databases (eg emails contacts, calendar etc)
Thanks, im gonna try that now. But i dont seem to be able to find Sprite Backup anywhere on e-club. Can you tell me where i find the app? Also, where do i get Net framework 3.5 from?
Alright i found the CAB file for NET Framework 3.5 but when i run it on my phone it says it cant install right away. Anyone know why?
Nevermind. I dont feel like relying on Sprite to backup everything. And i dont feel like copying over all my files etc, to internal storage. Too annoying. Thanks anyway. Wish they made it easier.
Hello all
i did use now my diamond awhile now and i would like to flash the newest rom.
I did install some programs and other stuff like contacts, appointments.
Which program is best to backup that stuff and is able to restore it completely ?
Regards
Lorien
If you did a search, you would see that this question was asked earlier today...
Here's my problem, i have an htc hd7 with windows 7.8 (Seveneighter) i had problems with my sms threads so i backed it up (zune) and hard reseted my phone, started from scratch!
i want to be able to unlock my phone and backup my sms from the above mentioned (backup) and compile it with the new thread after the backup.
FYI, i downgraded my bootloader and tried to upgrade through zune to get to 7.8 so that i coud restore my zune backup whilst my phone is unlocked, but i noticed that the bootloader changes after mango upgrade.
is there anyway that you can help me ?!!! plzz i would very much appreciate it !
This will sound harsh, but...
Idiot! every upgrade made by Zune always does an upgrade to the bootloader.
Forget the stupid official rom + unlock, that's trash at best for the average Joe.
Just downgrade your rom, and go for Deepshining or Dynamics and you'll be fine...:good:
BTW, are you asking for help from the big guns? really? Come on man, they are busy with more important business'.
Now, go downgrade that phone and install whatever rom you want, as long it's a custom rom.
regards.
hey man i really appreciate your input, but you till havent solved my problem. my main agenda is to be able to retrieve my sms thread from the backed up official rom onto the custom rom....is there anyway to do that???
a short and pragmatic NO
i was hoping you wouldnt say that man!!! this is terrible news however i very much appreciate your help on this.
cheers buddy!!
alright one more question then ill get outta your hair, i installed sms backup. i uploaded my .txt msgs to skydrive, is it possible to restore them directly from skydrive? or do i have to go through the process of backing up and restoring .vol files?????
