Here's my problem, i have an htc hd7 with windows 7.8 (Seveneighter) i had problems with my sms threads so i backed it up (zune) and hard reseted my phone, started from scratch!
i want to be able to unlock my phone and backup my sms from the above mentioned (backup) and compile it with the new thread after the backup.
FYI, i downgraded my bootloader and tried to upgrade through zune to get to 7.8 so that i coud restore my zune backup whilst my phone is unlocked, but i noticed that the bootloader changes after mango upgrade.
is there anyway that you can help me ?!!! plzz i would very much appreciate it !
This will sound harsh, but...
Idiot! every upgrade made by Zune always does an upgrade to the bootloader.
Forget the stupid official rom + unlock, that's trash at best for the average Joe.
Just downgrade your rom, and go for Deepshining or Dynamics and you'll be fine...:good:
BTW, are you asking for help from the big guns? really? Come on man, they are busy with more important business'.
Now, go downgrade that phone and install whatever rom you want, as long it's a custom rom.
regards.
hey man i really appreciate your input, but you till havent solved my problem. my main agenda is to be able to retrieve my sms thread from the backed up official rom onto the custom rom....is there anyway to do that???
a short and pragmatic NO
i was hoping you wouldnt say that man!!! this is terrible news however i very much appreciate your help on this.
cheers buddy!!
alright one more question then ill get outta your hair, i installed sms backup. i uploaded my .txt msgs to skydrive, is it possible to restore them directly from skydrive? or do i have to go through the process of backing up and restoring .vol files?????

Hi guys.. I keep reading your beautiful forum everyday, learning some...
As TheLastOne says, one must do a fresh install after a new ROM upgrading, avoiding the backup to overwrite some file of the old Rom.
My question is... is there a way to restore programs anddevice settings (like buttons config, rings, passwords, network settings etc) withouth making conflicts? I was thinking about a backup software that only saves custom elements.. do anybody know a way to do it? Thanks a lot. :?:
PS I read the post from Happygoat about CABs...is very tricky for me...I hope ther is a easyer solution!!!
There are two programs out there that make decent backups...
1. Sprite Software
2. SunnySoft Backup Manager
Both can be customized to only backup personal data, such as phone number database, etc.
To backup settings, the only way is to make your own cab.
What you do not want to do, is to backup everything, including the registry, and restore it after a ROM upgrade...!
These backups are nice to have if your ROMs stay the same...but if you upgrade/change ROMs, and restore such a backup, your PDA could become unstable. This has to do with the fact that the ROM update uses its resources and registry different, and writes programmes differently.
Hope that clears up things for you.
Thank for clear and fast reply @ HappyGoat..
So I will wait for a definitive "guide" from you about registry and settings CAB saving and try out the softwares u mencioned..by the way those sw save and restore also programs relative registration passwords?
I have made a full backup file on my storage card of my registry with PMH, now I think to do the follow:
1) backup all programs and data with Sprite software on sd card
2) upgrade to new rom and hard reset the device
3) reinstall PMH and restore registry
4) reinstall Sprite and restore programs and data
5) ... it will be ok ? I hope so because I really don't understand how to follow step 2 from HappyGoat guide
Thanks for pacience.. (TheLastOne...can you give an opinion..?)
Vicer,
Check this below link from Sprite Software for your Sprite backup.

I can confirm that you can successfully backup after a ROM upgrade and you wont lose any new ROM functionality after restore. I have tried this with various ROM upgrade and it works. Follow the instructions and every thing will be fine. However one thing you should note that when you restore from the old rom and if the program get stuck at one point, then dont feel afraid just soft reset and restore again. Remember that if your restore is finished with out any warnings it means that it is restored perfectly.
I hope this helps and if you need any information then please let me know.
Hemant.
Thanks a lot Hemant..I will try soon!!!
Thanks Hemant, I've been looking for this answer for a long time!
Backing up the rom because of garanty. How to?
My question is: how to backup the entire rom, when we got the device for the first time?
Cause, if the device gets with a problem, and went to the "doctor", the garanty is made (at least where i live), by the original rom.
Someone can help me out?

Unfortunately I had many problems after the restore with Sprite...I reinstalled all from scratch and now is all ok (unless I downgraded radio to 1.10 that is more stable in my opinion) Ref your question... I'm not an expert but I read the wiki everyday...and:
1) follow the getdevicedata procedure to know your original SHIP rom.
2) find on the xda ftp site the one that mactch exactely with your data
3) you dont need more to dump your Rom!! anyway on the forum you can search for "dump rom on sd card" to find the answer to your original question. Hope this helped..byez
Hi all,
I'm semi-noob on this--I've unlocked, upgraded my dopod 838(wizard) to one of the qtek9100 roms a few months ago and now I see the new official AKU2 roms!
I did my best to stay away, but now that I know it exists, I must upgrade! However, after having to reinstall everything and do all my tweaks when I did my last upgrade, I've been researching like mad to find an alternative to redoing everything.
Is there a way to backup my files, settings, tweaks, etc and then do the rom upgrade and restore those files/settings/programs so I don't have to dig through all my stuff to get my phone back to the way I like it?
Sorry for a dumb question! Just wanted to know for SURE before I hit the button =)
Hi,
first at all... THANKS TO EVERYONE!!! ... I've reading everything during a few days, because I didn't receive correctly the calls... I finally I got to update the rom; now I have to check if I've chosen the right one.
The question is: I made a backup of everything when it was wm 6.0, can I restore it after upgrading, knowing it is a different rom, and the wm version is the 6.1????
Thanks again!!!
No,
Don't do it, you'll have to hard reset because there are too many differences between the Roms (even when changing between WM6 Roms).
I would only restore when going back to the original ROM that I backed up.
thanks guys!
it is great to find people who have fronted already the same problems
then I'll just try to create a few direct accesses to the programs I installed in the sd.
Thanks

I have about 3GB of music on SD card and experience no problems with speed. Was your phone slow straight from flash before any software was installed? Have you recently installed any other software? Could possibly be a bad flash?
Backup of emails/contacts can be done by various methods, by using outlook and activesync, free apps like PIM Backup & sashimi or 3rd party apps like spb backup, sprite or resco backup
I'm a rookie at this thanks about the softwares i'll keep the backup of the phone and any good flash rom you can suggest without any bugs that can make it run smoother..And can i put the new rom over the old one with simple process..or do i have to format it in some way like we do in computer..

Dutty has also said that R7 was a beta to see what the future of Manila is, but has stopped developing on it because it is not deemed stable enough for daily use.
You can backup your contacts and messages via MyPhone or PIM Backup so that they can be restored.
kulwant,
How did you format your SD card? Did you use Windows' built in formatting program?
I would try reformatting your SD card via Panasonic's SD Formatter then putting all your music on the microSD card again.
Cheers.

Hi I have answered this in the post just above with regard to your R7 queries. You can use Microsoft MyPhone or PIM Backup to backup your contacts and/or text messages.
R7 was just a "taster" of the future and does have known bugs and stability issues. I am using Dutty's R9 currently and there are no serious bugs being reported by any users that I have seen. It is fast and stable. Dutty will also have R10 out by the weekend possibly, so if you can hang on with R7 until then that is probably the best.
I have only mentioned Dutty because you already have one of his ROMs but there are also many other cooks who put out good ROMs. I guess the best thing to do is to research the alternatives, read the threads where you will get a sense of issues and then try a few for yourself. (Beware! Flashing can be hazardous and habit-forming and should come with a warning.... LOL)
If you have USPL loaded, you will need to run through this process again in order to upgrade the ROM. If you have HSPL loaded however, you can just flash the ROM. The RUU program bundled with the download does all of the work for you and you just sit back and watch the progress.
Thank you friends i would try formatting my sd card for the start and later on change the beta version to some stable version of rom..I really appreciate the help..This forum and moderators not to forget the users too rock..Wooohhooo

It's a pleasure. Glad to help. I too was a noob only 3 months back and thanks to the help provided and the wealth of info here, if you are prepared to read and research a little there is a very steep learning curve and you too will be here providing assistance to the next round of noobs.
Nice help from all of you...
This was a very good way to treat a noob. Everybody has been there, and from my point of view it's a pleasure to see how we don't forget. I'm sure that he will be a great help to others in the future as well. Many thanks to all who took the time to help and not just "READ THE WIKI". That's to big big for a newcomer.
Best regards to all...
I want to upgrade my X1's ROM but I'm afraid if it's fail.
Is there any way to back up my ROM so if the upgrade wasn't success I can revert it back?
If it has been posted before, please let me know plz
Have never been beaten, don't be afraid,it is not hard to flash ROM
yinjianweizxc,
I'm just afraid. I got this nightmare when I was 'like' flashing my iPhone and it's not going well and I couldn't restore it back. The moderator who make the restore never answer my Question. After 2 months, I have to give up.
I just didn't the same nightmare happen to me.
And I'm still looking for a clean (with X1 standart 3rd applications) ROM 6.5.3 (without HTC Sense or anything that is not originally from SE).
Can you help to show me?
