That is weird. What do you do to fix it? just keep pressing the power button? or do you just wait and the screen eventually turn on? is it working meanwhile... like, can you lock yourself out on the pattern lock while the screen is off but supposed to be on?
probably totaly unrelated, but the nexus one have an issue with the amoled/digitizer. When the screen is on while charging (or on for longer periods without digitizer use) the digitizer will not work until the amoled is turned off/on again. maybe some crazy electro migration bug or badly spec caps going on on google+htc design for the n-one... maybe they haven't learned any lesson

Mine does that too sometimes, it did it most recently driving in the car. Have you tried wiping the screen? Sometimes if I make sure my screen is spotless, it's more responsive...don't know if it's placebo or not.
But you aren't the only one!

Im not sure maybe. Ill have to see what the screen does before it happens. When Ive noticed it my screen was off just sitting on the table and when I pick it up nothing happens.

I dont think it has anything to do with the screen though. Becuase ill pick up my phone and it wont turn on. What ive done is turn the screen on and off and then leave it for a few minutes and it just starts working again... pretty annoying but it happens very rarely

I think it doesn't work while in the car because it can't differentiate the pick-up motion vs. the motion from driving.
Not sure why it wouldn't happen sitting on a table though, unless it was just recently set down.

Backlight turns on randomly

Does anyone else have this happening my screen will randomly turn on after i press the button on the top to turn it off? it is very annoying at night it makes me think i have an incoming call or text message and being that Im on call 24x7 sometimes have to check it everytime it happenes which is about ever 10 to 15 minutes????
I searched on here already and couldnt find anything?????
any help?????
yes, that's probably normal behaviour, since the SCREENN-OFF button also works as SCREEN-ON button, whatever necessary...
but my screen doesn't turn on randomly...
my tip: just put your device in a thick wool sock and put it face down on your desk ;-)...
another possibility is, that if you charge it over night and the plug isn't fitting right then the screen may turn off because it constantly thinks it's plugged in and out...
Best Luck and nice dreams
Regards
not only when plugged in
actually it doesnt only happen when the phone is plugged in it happenes all the time

mine does it too upon occasion. i think it has to do woth background processes running, or your phone is roaming for alternative towers.
mine does it too. I have the Sprint CDMA version. Someone on a different forum thought it might be the phone looking for a signal. But no one was really sure. Haven't been able to find much useful info on it anywhere.
it's switching towers...my Mogul did it too.
is there any way to make it stop
In some of the aboce cases it can be that someone is trying to make a video call to you while Phone skin is disabled.
I also have this problem. My screen will turn on from time to time without any obvious reason. It's especially annoying at night... I have my phone in a cradle on my nightstand, so when the screen comes on the whole room lights up! I've resorted to keeping a shirt over it at night.
I tried setting the phone to 100% roaming since my Sprint signal is low in my apartment and I read somewhere that the phone will turn on when it switches towers/service, but alas it did not help me.
ANY IDEAS FOR A FIX?

While on Call: Face keeps hitting Mute, etc.. HELP

I thought the screen shuts off when you're in the middle of a call (proximity sensor?). On the iPhone, when you're in the middle of the call, it shuts the screen off when its by your face just so you don't hit anything like mute, etc...
Any way to get around this? Thanks

Mine shuts off the screen when your face is close to it.
Settings -> Call Settings, do you have Keep screen awake checked?
I don't see that option. Settings, then call settings... I see voicemail, call forwarding... That's pretty much it. Running Stock 2.1
Mine has done this a couple times now,i'll be talking to someone and all of a sudden start hearing beeps as if hitting the numbers on the keypad. First time it happened I thought it was the person on the other end but it happened again last night and I looked at the phone after I got off the call and it had #2* or something like that in the dialer so something is definitely weird here.

are you using a screen protector/skin/case ... anything?
mine has never given a problem.
so far.
Maybe you have a really skinny head that's not passing the sensor?

Nope, I imagine this will happen to everyone at some point though. It doesn't happen very often, it just out of the blue will happen one day. I guess the more you talk on the phone the more likely you will be to eventually experience it Maybe it has something to do with enabling the keypad? As that is what I did last night to punch in an extension.
This problem happened with my gf, when she had a droid. For some reason while she was talking on the phone the screen wouldn't always stay off and she would bump the on screen buttons with her cheek and end up usually trying to add a new caller to the call, thus muting whom she was talking to. She also had a lot of problems with the Capacitive touch screens, it wouldn't register half the time where she touched.
I've never had this happen to me, I doubt it actually will. It must be something related to how we hold our phones, and where it lines up to peoples differently shaped heads.

Never happened to me in 2-3 years with the Iphone. To act like it is happening because we are holding the phone wrong is a bit absurd, I mean it's not exactly a complicated process I will try and figure out what's happening, haven't paid much attention to it yet because I figured it was a fluke but it happened twice now and is happening to other people.
One thing I noticed last night was the phone screen was still blacked out while the beeps happened so it's not a sensor thing the screen is actually blacking out it's just being activated again by something that happens after it's off I assume.
I'm not using a case or anything. It NEVER happened to me with the iPhone, but it happens quite often with the Nexus One. VERY annoying... It should be like the iPhone, where when its by your face, it shuts off the screen AND disable the touch buttons below the screen.
I think its the touch buttons causing the problem... Because my screen does turn off when its by my face.

This is the behavior I experience with my nexus one (stock and custom roms). As soon as I place it near my face the proximity sensor turns off the screen.
The capacitive buttons below the screen are disabled when the screen turns off for me as well. I just called in to voice mail and hit every one while the screen was off due to the proximity sensor, not a single response from any button or the screen and no change in call status when I moved the phone away and the screen came back on.

Yea it's some kind of fluke, It happens so randomly I am thinking it might be something to do with the internet connection like checking mail or maybe the GPS doing something that wakes up the buttons while the proximity sensor keeps the screen off because everything will be fine then all of a sudden it happens while the screen is still blacked out.
Sounds like a factory reset might fix this issue... definitely not normal behavior.
I think this is happening to a bunch of people. I don't think a factory reset would help. I think its a bug...

No it's not a normal behaviour you are correct however it's not anything a factory reset is going to fix either. It's some kind of software bug that once enough people experience it will get sorted, just a matter of time before enough people start complaining to bring it to attention of Google or HTC.

Are you accidentally hitting the volume buttons on the side of the phone? It sounds like you might be turning the in call volume down, thus leading to it being muted.
^^ No... My face actually hits the mute button. I then have to click the mute button with my finger once i realize the person can't hear me and then they start hearing me again after I click it.
It happens with other buttons on the screen too.

Figured I would ask... I sell cell phones, and I get about 1 person a day in that has muted their in call volum by accidently hitting the volume toggle button without knowing it... all different phones (BB's are the worst!).
Anyways, my proxy sensor works perfect! I even just tested it a bit, and it senses a single finger tip starting about 1" away from the screen anywhere along the top of the screen... worked on both the left and right side and everywhere in between just fine.
I use my phone a lot at work in call (calling in to CS, calling the manager, etc) and have not had a single proxy sensor issue in the week I have had my phone.

May not be normal, but its not a bug that seems to be effecting all phones. Same thing that not everyone is experiencing random touch events, 2g/3g toggling, or dust/dogfooding. To say every phone has this problem because you do is simply short sighted.

Auto Sleep Feature ?

I was just wondering but does anyone know more about how auto sleep works or anything? I'm tempted to leave it on auto sleep but I feel like the screen never turns off unless I actually put the phone down on my table or something.

so from what your saying, pretty much when you stop looking at it, it turns off ( when you put it down or on a table).

On the htc one you can turn on auto screen-off, and that will make the screen turn off after a certain amount of time without touching the screen (you can change how long it takes in settings). It does not have a feature that it turns off when you haven't looked at it for a certain amount of time. I think this is what you meant, if it isn't please ignore this post
It uses the gyroscopes to determine if the phone is being held vertical, or laying down horizontal. If it's laying down, the time out should be 15 seconds. If in a vertical position, it should be a minute.

Screen won't stay off, keeps waking up

This has has happened to me 3 times so far while I am plugged in charging overnight. I'll wake up to see that my screen is on. If I hit the power button it will shut off, and then come back on in a second or two. Even if I flip it upside down so the screen is down, I can still see that the screen is still coming on. The only way for me to fix it is to reboot the phone. Anyone else experiencing this?

No, that's not it. I'm not talking about how it will come on every 3 seconds when you have a notification. I'm talking about turning fully back on so I can see my home screen.

Nope, that isn't checked. And normally this isn't an issue, only a sporadic thing.
Happened to me again last night, woke up and noticed the screen staying on around 5am. I tried disabling the active display but it didn't stop the screen from coming back on after I shut it off. I did find that when I unplugged it from my charger, the screen stopped coming back on. Does this give anyone any clues?

Its something you have installed.

I believe Safe Mode is still in Android. Try it. Warning: it will break your home screen widget layout.
If it is something that I installed, how can safe mode help me determine what it is?

The same reason it does in Windows. You use it to narrow down what is causing it. If Safe Mode cures the issue, you know for sure its an installed app. From there, process of elimination.
Right?
Just got the phone and have had this happen a few times also. No apps installed that I didn't have on my previous phone.
After a bit more testing I have more information. It seems like it only happens when it is plugged in and has reached a full charge. Once I unplug the phone from its charger, the screen stops coming on by itself. This is still some kind of bug, there's no reason I shouldn't be able to keep the screen off even if it is fully charged and plugged in.

No, I don't.
Ive tried this for two nights and it doesnt seem like I've had this issue since using a different charger...
My problem turned out to be the button accidentally being pressed and the screen lock setting being set to "5 seconds" after hitting the button, as opposed to right away. So the screen was going off, it wasn't locking, and an errand touch of the side of the phone while moving it would make the screen come back on without seeing the lock screen again because it was within the 5 seconds that the setting enabled. I was not familiar with this setting being on my previous phone and the Turbo was set to this by default. Hope this helps.
I agree that it is a bug, however, I was wondering, is there a way to get rid of that screen entirely? Frankly all that screen does for me is waste the battery, so being able to not have it at all would be great.

LG G4 h811 tap to wake not working with new Los update 10/24

I just updated my LG G4 h811 to the newest build for lineage OS 10 / 24 and tap to wake is no longer working the way it's supposed to only one in about every 20 attempts it will turn on is there any way to fix this or do I have to wait for a new update?

I've been looking everywhere and can't find anything to solve it I've even changed to a different ROM CR Droid so I'm not sure what's causing it it may possibly be Hardware but I really doubt it since it was only after an update
i have it to. try KDZ if its same then its a hardware problem. like mine i tried and same for all roms sometimes it turns on inside pocket. very sensitive . sometimes just place my palm in screen and turns on. now it doesnt turn on lol not even tapping 1000 times.
if you have warranty send it to repair. if that is important get another screen.

I remember having this problem on my LG G3 and thinking that a new screen would solve it it turned out to be the processor... Hopefully that's not the case here but sometimes when I use the button to turn on the screen it comes on but extremely dim I have to turn it off and turn it back on again so I'm thinking maybe it is a processor on the G4 as well

am afraid its hardware related not software.. i already searched alot and found nothing.
Yeah, I luckily have the insurance, but last time my brother sent his they sent him back a G4 with boot loop issue lmao. So, for right now, I've just been using the power button. As for me, knock to wake, knock code, pull down status bar all doesn't work. Sometimes it will randomly work but tap to sleep works fine.

An app i have been using called KinScreen.
It works by waving your hand over the proximity sensor to turn the screen on. I have been using it a week or so and it doesn't seem to use a lot of battery power. I am using it on LineageOS.
