I was just thinking..now all the phones are getting bigger screens. It is getting harder and harder to hold your phone.
Would it be possible to keep one finger.(like your tumb) on the screen without the touchscreen being pressed?
For example when you hold your finger for more then 3 sec. on the screen that the phone doesnt recognize your finger anymore. And this should only work around the borders of the screen.
I think a lot of people with tiny hands would really appreciate this..

I heard from a friend that someone is building a phone where the touchscreen keypad is almost as easy to feel as a physical hard-button keypad.
The virtual buttons (0-9, *, #) are spread out in a typical rectangular grid over the whole screen, with large gaps between them. When you (lightly) move your finger across the screen, it vibrates as your finger is passing over any button. If you want to actually press the button, you have to push your finger against the screen harder (this event is acknowledged with a beep).
This sounds like a great interface. Has anyone seen/heard of it? It also seems relatively easy to implement on any PocketPC, unless there are some problems that I'm not aware of.
I'm using one application that uses vibration as a feedback -- Phone_Pad_Vibrate.cab. However, it vibrates only when you actually press a button. I think it's a great app, but obviously its purpose is very different from what I'm talking about (e.g., it won't help you find the right button if you just shift your finger around the screen). Also, I found that it's not reliable -- if I use fast, light touches, I can dial a whole number without any vibration. It may be due to the lag between the button press and the vibration, or due to the different pressure threshold used by this program and the actual phone dialer. If it's the lag, I wonder if it's a technical limitation of the Kaiser.
The screen on the Kaiser (and most other PocketPCs) isn't pressure sensitive, that is, it can tell when you are pressing, but not how hard. You would need a special screen to achieve that.
You are talking about screen technology more advanced than most PocketPCs are currently equipped with. the iPhone has what is generally regarded as the most advanced touch screen in a mass produced product. The software would need to implement it, but the screen's hardware would need to be able to do it in the first place.
ok it doenst happen when i lay the phone down on the surface and click on the screen it works perfectly
however when i hold it with my right hand and touch the middle of the screen with my thumb
it opens up phone dialer, or appdrawer or vibrante cause it clicks the capacitive button.
when i hold it with my left hand it gets a little bit better but it still does.
if i hold the nexus carefully and touch the screen , it works, when i hold it like this
the things gets better when i put a thick case like otterbox..
is this a hardware issue? ( found similar video on youtube)
my phone is rooted but can i still get a replacement phone?( already put everything back to stock)
and if i do get a replacement, are they going to charge me with anything?
my current nexus one trackball doenst scroll up but everything else works.
How many of you guys got a replacement even though your phone was rooted?

it's a hardware issue...
all you can do is not grip the phone too closely to the edge of the screen. It registers touches even if you are not touching the screen completely. But that to be a problem you have to have giant hands
I've had this happen to me once since I had it from launch day. It did happen with my Otterbox commuter series, and a clarivue screen protector. But I turned it off and on again and it was fine.

no i am not touching any part of the screen. i made sure i wasnt touching the screen.
but it does happen when i hold my phone closely to the edges.
i never had this kind of issues with other touch screen phones..

I can confirm that my device too does this. When lying in bed I browse the net with one hand and try and scroll....the edges of the touchscreen seem to register depression when the chassis is pushed or gripped too hard also.
It's a minor irritation to me, but I agree it is a hardware issue.
So i just got my HD7 yesterday, and the first time i try to turn it on i found out that the power button is extremely hard to press, and the position of it is horrible for a right-handed person, should've been on the left top corner instead.
Problem is the power button is too flat that i have to press few times in order to wake the device up, this is really annoying.
My idea is, is it possible to wake the device up by pressing the middle home capacitive button? So it's like the "Activator" on a jailbroken iPhone to change keys around to fit your needs. It really will help us to save the power button from being jammed. (well at least it looks like its going to get jammed if you keep pressing it)

But you can always take your phone back to the store for a refund.
Most HD7's, if not all, have the power button almost flush. You'll find it doesn't take a hard press at all to turn it on. It's almost as if it's a capacitive button itself.
As for the positioning, most right handed people hold the phone in their left hand, and the power button is perfect for the left index finger.
With the power button i find that although the button you push is very wide, the actual button component underneath is very small and situated to the far side of the button area. (see Attached).
If you press it right there, you'll probably notice hardly any force is needed at all
with some time now with the hd7 Im glad the button is flushed as it is or else it would be going ON while in your pocket all the time.
The old HD7 i got the button was hard to press, and same for the camera button. the new one i have is good though. and that attatchment helped! haha, ive been pressing on the middle, when you press on the left its much easier.
I bought a case from T-Mobile (not sure which brand, but has transparent back side) and it came with it's own little button the interacts with the one on the phone, making it MUCH easier to press. It seems all these phones are plagued by the same problem. You'd think a $500 dollar phone would be put together a little better, eh?
Yes they are and its due to capitalism that we see all these flaws. They cannot wait to pump out a new model to justify the 499 price tag. Anyhow I have the same issue as the OP fortunately I have a case that makes it easier to press.
sometimes it feels like I'm gonna break it trying turn it on but the case I bought from SEIDIO helps guide my finger to the button

Have the same problem here. My buttons all work, but they are pretty squishy. I generally use my fingernail on the power button when it isn't in a case. Otherwise, it's not a huge problem.
HTC actually fixed my camera button (they even honored the warranty, which was nice considering I'm not the original owner). If it's really driving you nuts, you might send it in. Not sure if the power button issue will be solved though...sounds like that's more of a design flaw.
More on topic, I really wish it had the one physical button (Windows button). The Samsung Omnia 7 has this and looks amazing. Would really make it much easier to wake the phone.
Yep, had the same problem with the first two HD7's I had. The first time it was the camera button and software problem. Replacement they sent me then had the flush power button. Took me 3 times sometimes to get the phone on. Cases I own make it much better, but I don't always have or want my case on my phone. Needless to say, the last one they sent me is perfect and you notice a different kind of "clicky" feel when you get one that's made the way it should be. Send it back, get one that works.

It seems my home button is way too sensitive, it sometimes(I say sometimes because it seems to vary) senses a touch from up to 3-5mm away from the screen. This becomes problematic because since it's range is so big, it can pick a normal press as a long-press or even seem to be pressing by itself and it's pretty annoying. Is there a way to lower/calibrate it's sensitivity or even better, to move the "hold" functionality to the back or HTC button?
This wouldn't have bothered me and I haven't even noticed it until I made a very favorable (for me) exchange with some guy and he calls me the next morning to tell me I tricked him because I gave him a faulty phone and the button presses itself, so I had to tell him I'll look at the phone and try to see what the problem is and if I can fix it by tomorrow, so any help would be appreciated!
Also, the guy said in 2 instances he put the phone down and it kept pressing itself.
Edit: apparently the problem might be liquids(water or sweat) on your finger, explains why it would keep activating after your finger was taken away. That moment when you're using a product wrong and blaming it on malfunctions. Can anyone replicate this for me? Wet your finger and press the home button, see if it registers as a long press(i.e. opens google now), I want to be sure it's not limited to my device.

I replaced the screen on my eva-l09 and had issues with it ghost pressing and then the front glass lifted off. So brought another screen (and frame) and again getting really bad ghost pressing and generally going mental.
Both screens were ebay so appreciate may not be best but for it to happen to two screens sseems odd.
Problems I have are random mental press in and scrolling. Phone is seen my finger press as got cursor showing but not actually pressing app icons or scrolling.
Of I hover finger close to screen it sees it despite not touching it.
If I press at very bottom the cursor shows at the very top.
I also only seems to do it in a few certain apps.
I've turned brightness down, cleaned it and made sure no processes are being closed by battery management.
Am I missing something really oblivious or is there an issue with the main board?
Any help or advice greatly appreciated
