This is my 3rd Moto X replacement, but it seems that this one drops signal every 10 minutes or so and doesn't come back till I toggle airplane mode. This, in turn, kills my battery since most of the signal meter in the battery usage is red. Now, I don't have great signal, usually 2 bars on a scale from 0-4 bars, but all my other phones (N4, N5, Htc one) hold signal fine. My htc one isn't even a tmobile phone (my carrier), but it works better than this. (It was unlocked)
I've tried RSD lite, wiping cache, reflashing radios, pretty much everything. This is kind of getting ridiculous. I miss a lot of calls because of this too, and for some reason, they don't get registered as voicemails (maybe a tmo problem, I don't know).
Is anyone else having this problem? I really don't want to replace my phone again since this is the 3rd unit now. The first one randomly rebooted and the second one the headphone jack didn't work. Seriously disappointing build quality from a company that has been known for great cell radios and phones.
@Xatt - You've helped in the past, any ideas here?

I would have to say you are in the minority here. Moto makes excellent devices and build quality is certainly there strong point. There next strong point is radios. I haven't had a single issue with the 2 Moto X's that I've had.

Obviously. I'm not saying everyone has the issue. I'm just saying that out of the 3 moto x's I've had, all of them had problems out of the box. I know radios is their strong point, that's why I'm saying why is this happening. I seriously don't want another replacement, but I like the rest of the phone. Its just the actual phone part that doesn't work :silly:

I agree with jmill. Unlike Nexus devices, Moto radios are usually very good. I've had stronger reception on my X than I had on my Nexus 4, 5 and Galaxy S4.

I wonder if you've got some sort of electromagnetic interference going on where you're at and it just happens to affect the Moto X radio.

Anyone else noticing that they have any dark spots on there screen that are slightly dimmer than other spots?

Okay, so I noticed that if I press on the screen a little harder than I should that it looks like the LCD under the glass is getting pressed down.
Is this something normal? I don't recall my fascinate ever having this problem? I mean.... yeah the fascinate had problems but not related to the screen.
I don't see this on my Bionic. But my wife's DroidX has an issue similar to what you're describing. It doesn't take much pressure at all, just a normal press on the screen and she gets what looks like an oil slick effect. Does that sound similar to your issue? I know it's off topic, but I was reading some reviews of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and a lot of people are reporting an "oil slick" issue with the screen. So I'm wondering if they're all related and possibly a symptom of a particular screen design? I don't think the Tab uses a screen remotely similar to the Moto phones, but the symptoms seem very similar so perhaps they share some type of common design?
When not pressing it looks kind of like this,

While pressing while playing a game it looks like an oil slick or like color streaks where the LCD is healing itself. Although now super noticeable you can totally see that there are some dark spots in the middle of the screen after I have used it for the last few months.
If you have an image in your previous post, i'm not able to see it...but it sounds just like what my wife's droidX is doing...and the oil slick behavior from the galaxy tab. My wife's screen has been doing that for a few months now and I haven't seen any adverse effects, it just looks funny but works fine otherwise. I believe Samsung is taking back the affected tabs if there's a warranty claim...haven't tried pursuing the issue with my wife's phone tho.
Possibly some good news for you...I just looked at my wife's DroidX last night, and the "oil slick" is gone. Couldn't see it with the screen on or off. I even tried pushing down pretty firmly in the area it was and nothing. Hopefully it goes away for you.
No, it did not. I got a refurb, does the same thing. This one will be going back too.
That's it!
I am having the same issue with my Bionic. I already returned the first one and got a replacement. The replacement was a refurb, which irks me..anyway, this refurb has the same problem and Moto says all they can do is send me another refurb.
This is a serious issue and I bet it's on a lot of their phones. It's not easy to see, so many people probably haven't noticed.
I am really pissed and I'm think about just using insurance to buy a completely different phone instead.

So based on that and, what I would assume some other people as well, that there is probably a general affliction to the device. It could be inferred that it is only a matter of time before people start to realize that there are dark spots on the screen and start to complain.
mistawolfe are you still using the bionic or have you totally switched to the RAZR? Does this issue manifest itself the same was with the RAZR and the BIONIC?
I have the same issue with the LCD distortion when pressed. It was a lot worse with the screen protector on. Not too noticeable now that its off. I figure if I scratch the crap out of my screen I will just get a re-furb sent for the distortion issue...
I can't remember off the top of my head which forum i read this on but the dark spots are due to the construction and materials used to make the screen and isn't a defect at all. As for the "oil slick" effect, i can only imagine that to be an issue where the glass is thinner in certain spots and is actually pressing on the LCD, just like pressing on an LCD monitor.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
Well I went through 3 different Bionics at this point and after a few weeks they all get these dark spots.
Have a replacement Rezound on the way to replace the Bionic. It's too bad that the Bionic, for me, has had so many small issues because it's a solid device with a lot of potential.
And the Rezound is also a turd.
First Verizon sends me a phone and a back cover and "forgot" the battery.
Then get the battery and power the damned thing on to find out I can't log into my google account because HTC "forgot" the ` backtick in the sense keyboard and also "forgot" that the stock android keyboard doesn't suck and doesn't take any effort to include.
I quit. There is obviously no winning.

Were you able to still use the phone?
Yea, Sucks.
Holy Cow Dude that looks terrible. I've not had an epic fail yet but I've overdone it recently. my Rooted HTC HD2 seems to have a habit of failing, freezing or rebooting right when I need it. I'm on my way home, i need to make multiple calls back to back and what happens friggin android phone freezes. I kill all tasks try to bring it back up, crashes again then instantly into a reboot.
LG Envy Touch.
Biggest piece of crap I have ever owned.
Complained so much to Verizon that two months after getting my upgrade, they let me get another two year upgrade price on a droid x and keep the envy. Lol. Sold it on Ebay for over $200.
Yea it sucked big time.
I had to deal with 3-4 phone reps and 4-5 store guy's before I got a new phone.
I will tell what they said:
1 phone rep said I needed to leave the phone off over night. ( Say what)
1 phone rep said I needed to clear all in all internet apps. ( So did not fix it)
2 store reps said I was being "slowed down for lot's of data use".
3 reps said it needed a fac reset. ( Did not fix it for long, came home and bam 600kbs)
Any way the new one is all good, but it was a pain becuase "it's the best phone they have". ( I am like I just want the thing to work right, telling me this crap does not make me feal better.)

Yeah it just requires a reboot but it happens every now and then not as often as the random reboots though
I think this phone or verizon is crap.
Well I should have not said all good with the new one, but a lot better so far. It has droped Data 2 times and fell back to 3G one time in the 2 days I have had it.
I don't know at this point if verizon is crap or the razrs are unstable. I know motorola is better than this so I think it's just the 4G LTE gsm and CDMA trying to work at the same time fail.
Edit: It's now doing it to. This is my 2nd phone and less than 3 days it start's pulling this crap.
Bigest phone fail us the Samsung intercept. It's the definition of crashes, freezes, slowness, freak outs, and miss sends and barely any apps work with it
Biggest fail for me was the Nokia N90.
Nice phone with nice camera features, but every now and then it drove me crazy with random resets or, sometimes, with unnoticed shut downs. It just resetted or shutted down in my pocket.

Hi, I live in South America, I have a brother who lives in the US and I'll be travelling soon so I was planning on upgrading my S3 and after some research I was very excited about asking him to buy me the One Developer edition.
Today I started reading here about all the quality problems that plague HTC's incredible release (gaps, scratches/dents, dead/stuck pixels, speaker problems) and I'm a bit worried because if the phone is defective or breaks afterwards I won't be able to replace it, so now I'm thinking of buying the S4, which now I think is a safer bet, but sadly it was also a safer bet from Samsung's part and I really liked the more ambicious approach that HTC made.
What do you guys think? Would you buy the One knowing that you wouldn't be able to replace it in case it is defective or breaks shortly after buying it?
Thanks.

It's cos he's in a completely different continent that he can't send it back.... Did you even read the first sentence??
I have never heard of any of those issues. One dude did post about their speaker not working, but that's the 1st case I've seen of it. I read a lot of tech blogs and I haven't see them post about arising issues.
So I feel you'll be safe. But then again, I've only read about the carrier versions and not the Dev. Editions. Why do you feel the S4 is a safer bet? Have you not read about any issues with it? What about the 16GB version only have barely 8GB of actual usable storage? LoL!!
All the problems I mentioned are from threads here im xda, and it seems that there are lots of people that have them, especially the stuck pixels problem.
They are not problems of the Dev edition, they are of the One in general.
I have read about people complaining about S4 cracked screens, but there aren't many cases considering the amount of S4s sold and it also can't be said that they are caused because of manufacturing or design problems, I also have the (maybe wrong) impression that Samsung being so much bigger and wealthier has more capacity to overengineer and exhaustively test their phones, every review talks about the HTC having a better build quality, but that only refers to the case material and not the real build quality which can't be tested just by touching it.
The storage is one of the S4 main disadvantages, but now I have a 16GB S3 with a 64GB microSD and it's not so bad, only problem is not being able to have many 1gb+ games
You'll be fine. This website is only a very tiny fraction of the total user base, and then only a few people from this website even had major problems.
those people talking about stuck or dead pixels are being to anal. most of the time you will never even know they are there unless you use an app that tests them. 468ppi on this phone. ive seen the stuck pixels thread and if you really want to complain about 1 or 2 pixels then you have never owned an lcd tv there is an allowance in the warranty for dead pixels and 1 or 2 will not get you a new tv
Show me a phone a month after its release with absolutely -0- *****es about anything being wrong with it. Its impossible. Everything has some percent of problems.
Well.. ok, I think you convinced me, it also helped that 20 minutes ago my 2 months old S3 fell from my desk to the floor and this is how it looks now:

The plastic housing and all glass front is too fragile, I don't tend to drop my phone that's why it doesn't have a case, but with these phones you drop it once and you are done
It heard you talking about buying an HTC as your next phone. So it hurled itself off the desk as a half hearted attempt at sympathy. Ive seen it a million times. Dont fall for it.
You probably decreased the odds of having one of these problems just by opening a thread on XDA wondering about these problems! XDA is a small community and remember HTC said they sold 5 million of these devices. Just don't actively look for a problem. If you do, you'll find one

I never experience all of this since i bought mine 3 months ago.
Signal is a crap. Most of the time having 3-4 bars (doesn't matter LTE or H+) in the centre of my city, where on HTC 10 I had LTE+ on full bars most of the time.
I have never had these issues at any point...
I've used the phone for about two months and never experienced any issue.
I use to have poor reception 2-3 months before after updates everything is working fine.
Works great for me on the stock ROM. all functional issues have been addressed in my opinion
Bad reception is usually a symptom of the user's location or country
No issues for me using it since the launch
No issue here... I don't use LTE or any other tho.
Netwrok signal all Time poor.. When i sent sms its need more time to send.. and Its very Weak for Get signal ??
Have had it since 9/12 and have had no issues. Reception on at&t is better than my old Op2 and just as good if not better than wife's iphone 6s.
No issues experienced on this phone since I got it.

Had mine since it was released and I haven't had a single problem with it, far from it. Every "common known bugs" you are mentioning are points where I'm saying the OP3 excels at. And when I recommend the phone to others the ONLY negative points I have is back camera lins poking out (a case fixes that), no sd card expansion (minor inconvenience) and that the battery isn't easily replaced (dash charge outbalance that).

Perhaps the HTC10 was overplaying the signal reading? TBH I don't take any notice of the bars as long as I can get a signal/make & receive calls, on that score I've never noticed any issues.
There's minor issues with the OP3 but none are real killers and there's still no better smartphone when it comes to value/performance.
Just wish OP would hurry up and explain properly what direction they intend taking the Oxygen OS.

Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the RED Hydrogen One, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the RED Hydrogen One is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Pretty much everyone in the Houdini program (pre-release testing) appear to just **love** their device.
I've had mine for about two weeks now and have grown to absolutely love it! While the industrial design may be a stark departure for some, the scalloped edges make me feel really comfortable not using a case. Its really clear that this device is well built.
It runs a fairly stock version of Android 8.1, and I receive OS updates every few days to address bug fixes. Funny thing is, I haven't witnessed any bugs myself. While it's not an SD845, most users won't be able to tell the difference at all. This thing FLIES! I think until the next snapdragon SOC shrinks down a bit to single digit nm size, the performance gains won't be significant enough for users to really be measurably different in real world tasks.
Battery life is bonkers! I'm constantly demoing the device at full brightness for several hours a day, and on those days will end with about 40% life left. On my "off days" of regular use, I will typically only get to about 60-65% by the end of the night. I'm quite comfortable saying this will last some users two days.
The camera is fantastic as well! I looked it up in AIDA and it doesn't say who makes them, but the specs say 12.3 MP and 1.55 μm cell size. There's a few devices on the market with the exact same specs and both are praised for their camera prowess. I think what makes this one so awesome is the spacing between the cameras, which makes for the awesome 4-View holographic effect but also creates an awesome depth of field mode. I'll see if I can post some samples later today. The 4-View screen is something you just have to see. I won't bother explaining it, but I'll say that adding depth to photos makes me feel like a great photographer, even though I'm typically best outfitted with a potato cam.

BUT, I have a *lot* to learn as my last Android device started

Oh, and finding time for these experiments is another issue...

Yeah, not yet. Rooting have been some time for me as I had an iPhone for a while and just switched back. Kinda learning again. But I did send a message to a RED team member asking for the unlock code so we'll see.
Just got mine today does anyone know how to take portrait mode pics. PS love it so far
I just installed the pixel 3 camera app and OMG does it unlock the potential of this phone.

It's rootable but we need to get the bootloader unlocked. I'm going to ask Red if I can get the key. Will update once that happens.

If you bought directly from RED they will send you the Key to unlock. Hopefully you can work your magic with that. They are not allowed by contract to do that with Carrier phones.

You installed it on the RED ONE? How can you shoot 4V with that?
No you can't shoot 4v with the pixel camera app

I tried various versions but couldn't get it going, can you post a link to the one that works?
update all Red apps, and you can take portrait or landscape front and back
Good morning Red One users. I have an opportunity to purchase one of these from AT&T and was wondering if anyone can confirm that the speaker has gotten better for hands-free calling. I'm basing this off of a YouTuber who said he cannot hold phone conversations over speakerphone without the other party saying they can't understand him so he has to switch to handset. I've had a chance to see the demo and the AT&T store and they have only one left and they're holding it for me until close today.
I did notice when I was in the AT&T store looking at the demo I noticed the LG I was currently using had all of its signal bars but the hydrogen only had about 3. So I'm wondering if anyone has had any signal issues or drop coverage. I know this depends on your cellphone provider towers locations. Just wondering if anyone saw any drop off in cellphone coverage from previous devices?
I have both the AT&T version as well as the unlocked Titanium. Both operate on the AT&T network without issue. The signal bar has never dropped below half that I'm aware of and I have not had coverage issues even while traveling.
