[Q] Do Galaxy 3 roms work on Galaxy 3 mini ? - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Forgive me if the answer is obvious. It is just that I have recently bought this phone and I already have some ROMs which I installed for my friend's S3.

No, it doesn't. The S3 uses a different CPU and has higher specs (camera etc). Only ROMs buiilt for the S3 mini would work; take a look at Oliver's CM or MacLaw's ROMs. I'm sure there's more ROMs, take a look in the android development subforum.

[Q] Rom from Galaxy Tab 10.1

Just bought my galaxy tab 8.9 and absolutely love it. But I am interested in using a custom ROM, but I have noticed there is not that much available for the GalaxybTab 8.9.
So given how similar the Tab 10.1 and 8.9 are, I was wondering if it is possible to use a rom from the 10.1 and has anyone tried it?
Tried searching everywhere, but I have so far been unable to find an answer
Bad idea. A 10.1 ROM will not work without modifications.
What modifications are needed to make a 10.1 ROM run on an 8.9?
Can't be much.

From the quick compare I did of the Overcome 10.1 and 8.9 versions I think you at least need to replace the kernel and add ro.sf.hwrotation=90 to build.prop.
You propably also need sensors.p3.so from a P73xx ROM to get the compass working right too.
Perhaps some more is needed too?
I also read alterbridge86 mentioning something about the build.prop here in his third reply.

Yes, not so sure how much it really needs P7510 changed into P7310. I believe that change will just be cosmetical. However ro.sf.hwrotation=90 must be added or the screen will be 90 degrees off.
Keep in mind that I'm still waiting for my P7310 to arrive so my opinions here are still a bit theoretical.
i'm also probably getting a 8.9 soon.
i really hope its easy to port over some of the 10.1 roms.
coming from the nexus one forum it sure feels empty here developement wise
Thanks for the answers.
I will try to port a rom later on today.
We will see if your points are enough to make it run.

Specifically, you'll get a softbrick. Just taking the kernel will make it boot.

[REQ][DEV] JB/ICS working Camera

Hello,
Our Tab devs should look at amazing work which is done by i9001 devs for getting camera work on ported ICS ROM without any camera drivers.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1651530
Maybe it is possible to make camera work on 8.9?

Simple No!
why not? they made it (but with other device)
Safariking,
well, you haven't made an effort to figure out if it's possible
By the way, Safariking, I saw your post where you suggest P7230 users to flash JB ROM for P7300/P7310 despite totally different hardware. So how you can be so sure?

We currently have one developer working for our tablets since Team GalaxianSoup is absent. I think a lot of reverse engineering went to that specific job you're talking about since the same was done for the T959's (Samsung Vibrant) GPS and more. Only thing we know is the camera drivers are closed source in our tablet so we have to wait for Samsung on this one.

[Q] Dual Boot for Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 ? Its possible?

Hy everyone! I read in XDA that have many phone dual boot system (dual boot manager)! It is possible to make this solution for Galaxy Mini 2?
Yes, it should be. Since system and data partitions are large enough. But I personally don't think it is useful (at least for me it isn't)

Easy switch from CM to Stock
Because in the CM 10 not work everything (Cam,BT) so not need to restore stock rom or other custom rom in recovery.

Good point, really looking forward to something like that..
That would actually be a very useful feature .
Just think about having a fully-packed CM10 build with all the apps and stuff as the main OS , and another pretty much empty stock ROM just for bluetooth and camera . It would be a temporary improvised solution for the problems that are currently in the CM10 build .
However I never did that . Will it really work with such a combo ? Considering we would need different kernels and stuff .

Not now! It is a idea! Its not developed for Mini 2!
i think galaxy y dev knows this and the other rom can be installed on sdcard(stock rom) while the main rom is in the phone(cm10)..and it requires a modified kernel and a script for the 2nd rom to be booted...like activating it via terminal...
To be honest, before we think about dual booting the device, CM or stock or even with Ubuntu now. The question is this: why would you want a device that can dual boot two operating systems? how will it benefit us the end users to have dual boot on an mid range or an entry level device like SGM2 ? even for a high end device like SGS3 or Sony Xperia Z I don't see how will do anything good for us, for tablets maybe but for smartphones I don't see how can that be something useful. (not that I'm against the idea)
I like the idea, but to be honest, there are more important things we need for our device before we get on dual boot... We don't even have devs.. If TheWhisp ever leave us, we're going to be ****ed up and the development for our device would be pretty much dead... So yah, why would you use dual boot when you don't have 2 good roms to boot up... xD just sayin'...
+1 befor dual boot we need 2 good room thanks god we hawe theWhisp
That go to Galaxy S2, google play are SGS2 Dual-Boot Setup (LolBoot)? https://play.google.com/store/apps/...xMiwibmV0LmhlbGxjYXQuZHJvaWRkZXYubG9sYm9vdCJd

you should find and go to developer section in xda.
its not that easy. s4mini have 2gb ram and a lot of bloatware and scripts. you should clear them to fit our 1gb ram. and so. its hard job.

Typically speaking - porting roms only work when the phones are similar in terms of hardware (many MTK devices do this). The S3 Mini and the S4 mini have completely different hardware, with nothing being the same, it's probably next to impossible (it may be possible, but it's probably a lot more trouble than it's worth).
It's a bit like trying to put a truck/lorry engine inside a small car - extremely diffcult, not worth the labour and money.

I can easily say, i recommend you this and that rom, but how do i know if it will work oke with your i9305.. I DON'T KNOW, so in the end you will be curious for others roms too, other than what i or anyone else recommended, and with your flashing experience that is getting better and better with every flashing/installation you make, you will probably flash them all anyway and try them out, so will you stick with the recommendation that i or anyone else makes, I DONT THINK SO
so will asking this question be very helpfull to you? probably not...
ALL of them roms have their own greatness in various aspects!! not every rom you will install will probably work without any kind of issue or bugs, as it is called. you need to find out what rom will be the best for daily use for you, and that is done by testing them f.e. each day try another rom, read the threads and analyze the roms features and users posts etc. there are a lot, so i would say get started!
HAPPY FLASHING!

Hi! I tried many roms from 4.3 to 4.4.4 and as i can say is, not because it is a good rom for me, it must fit for you.
I like the sammy roms because they work with my car audio. But also the CM-based roms because of speed.
So, maybe you see it's your choice and you can only install them and try them by yourself.
I'm on alliance 3.5 which is a sammy rom. And i got xposed framework installed. So i can change a bit more. You see, everyone is different.
