Battery life - Moto X Q&A

I had it for three days. The battery life is not as good as I expect. The review says it last 2 days.
The first day I activated the phone in the morning. Did a lot of installation using LTE. It lasted till toward the evening (10%).
The second day I did several more installation over WiFi. But other than that, not a lot of usage. No video, no game. By early evening, it's down to 10%.
Today, a few installation over WiFi, no playing time. Two online purchase (click and buy, no shopping around). By 3 PM, it's down to 33%. I then used Google Maps for navigation for 25 min and it brought the battery down to 13%. The breakdown show screen at 50%, Android OS at 20%.
Another I noticed it runs quite warm. Not really hot but warmer than my skin.
Is this normal?
Thanks

First couple cycles were not that great for me. After that though I've been able to get over a full day with 7 hours of screen on time. Since then I don't even bother paying attention to my battery.

This is great to hear. On my 4th cycle and battery is still "mediocre" (much better than my S2). Currently 10.5 hours off charger, 1 hour 45 minutes screen on time and 42% battery. Android OS is crushing me for some reason. Screen brightness is also at 0%-10%
Signal strength is crap though, constantly yellow on my battery history...

Try this stuff. Most of it you will need root tho.

I suffer from poor battery life on my SGS3 on occasion. I've rooted, run Gsam & greenify and have concluded that 80+% of my problem comes from poor signal strength. If I get in an area with no coverage like inside many buildings, it sucks the battery like crazy.

Not sure I believe the screenshot. I don't think you can have the screen on and the phone not active, and since your screen on time is greater than active time, your numbers seem to lie.

So how did it go? Are you still on the original 1st charge from yesterday?
Just got my EXT. Bat. today via Fed EX will give it a full charge tonight and test hard tomorrow, almost feel like the bionic is to lite with orgin. batttery in it??
Very good design on this extended battery
Alright!!!! So I last charged it this morning @ 830am...it is now about to be 8 so almost 12 hours now and its @ 50%!! So my usage consisted of checking emails, texting, facebooking, lil bit of checking xda, twitter, and a couple of very short calls so I would say my use was at moderate through out the day...I'm very happy with the extended battery!! I think I had done my normal streaming of Pandora or iheart radio (around 2 hours in the office) that it would still be going right now

I just received mine today. Then I hit a brainstorm. I popped it into the external battery charger and it started charging. So, I thought to myself - why not have 2? Added bonus - I'd have a spare back cover as well.
Et voila! I went back to VZW and ordered a second one today.
I'll be popping mine in late tonight and seeing how it goes in a non 4G area with WiFi on, GPS on, etc....
I'll probably try to condition the battery as well as I can also, draining it as far as it will let me the first time and then fully charging in the external charger. Same with the next one that comes in.
Nice I'm going to.go home and use my quick charger!!

I like the weight and feel of the phone with the extended battery. Feels a lot more like my Thunderbolt, which is what I am accustomed to.
Ugh....can't believe I missed it. I just got my phone yesterday, too.
This is my first run with the battery. Hour and a half GPS, gaming, phone calls, 2 hour Rdio streaming, hitting it pretty hard before I went to bed. Woke up and used it even more.

Dumb question for anyone using the extended battery. I got mine earlier in the week and it doesn't really seem to last any longer than the standard battery. Charged it all the way up and the most I can get out of it is about 8 hours. I don't really consider myself a heavy user either. Do you guys find that you have to run it all the way down and it last forever on 5% or does it just seem to overall last longer for you?
Thanks
Also received mine yesterday. Has been off the charger now for 12 hours. 2 of those hours were spent streaming slacker radio which I am doing right now still. Battery is at 40%. Also I have been browsing the internet, facebook, and xda all day. I am very impressed. I like the weight of the phone too. It feels solid and well built, kinda like you know your holding a powerful machine.
Edit:I also have had skype active in the background all day and 4g turned on.

I noticed the longer battery life also. When a lot of stuff is running sometimes I will use the ES Taskmanager Kill app and when I did that there is more free memory than before and even when a lot of apps are being used there is more free memory than before also.
HOLY. Definitely inaccurate. I notice a small increase in battery life, but nothing that big. I get like 30 minutes extra.

That's what I was thinking. But since I bought the device, it hasn't done this. This is either a bug or battery life is extremely increased!
On 4.1.2 my battery drops 1% in 16 minutes of the same usage. This is definitely way beyond!
Still monitoring it.
Might as well play a few games to see what happens.
There is definetely a bug with battery readings.. It is likely drop more than normal , once it drops to %99.
Ok. I did a bit of NFS and it brought my battery down to 95%. Now to see if it'll drop normally.

I think your battery stats are jammed, I'm not seeing anything like that at best 30 - 40 minutes of extra battery, which is still nice. If your right your device is drawing power from the air around it

I would say, post the SCREEN ON TIME, as well as the STAND BY TIME ... Both are important.
Also, some bits of info how did you use the device and general settings (auto-brightness, GPS on/off, WiFi? 3G?) ...
Otherwise, it won't matter ... I can have 6-7 hours screen on time on my GNex for doing nothing ...
Push this thread! We need the answers with screenshots from the ones who already got a final device! This is much better then all the reviews.

Yeah something wrong there.. that's about 1/3 of what my GNex does, and common wisdom is the battery life on that is poor.

Yeah the Wi-Fi bar on my Nexus 4 is solid across the entire history graph as well. Now I don't remember what that's supposed to look like. I leave wifi turned on all the time, even if i'm not connected to a network. Is that why? Or does it normally only show when you're actually connected to a network?
I'm currently at 6h 5m, 68%, 50m screen on time.

Having WiFi turn off when the screen is off is worst for the battery. The phone will just switch to 3G when it needs data.
Sorry op but this will not get anyone anywhere.
You need to set up rules. Screen on time can be determined by MANY, MANY factors
First of all it would be good to make a screenshot of the battery inventory. For instance
Out of 100% how much % was dedicated to the browser or what else other program
I would really reocmmend downloading gsam battery stats and making a screenshot within the app. It lists a lot of things,
I bet you this phone can do 8 hours of screen on time if not longer, how? Just leave the screen open the whole time and do nothing. So while one might get 8 hours and the other 2 - we will never know under what circumstances thus this thread being useless.
Right now we only have a screenshot of the phone's screen on time ONLY. Useless. I've experienced that telephone calls drain more battery than the screen itself or uses up to at least as much.

I easily could get 2 days or more out of the gear and charge every night. Do you really come close to running out in a day? I do agree with you though, would rather just charge with USB than the crazy cradle.
I suggest two options
1. Wait less than one year for GEAR II - for sure it will have longer battery life... (personally I'd rather had the watch thicker by 1 mm and have twice the battery power)
2. In the mean time - try to look into this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2493181&page=5
Some days I get to about 10pm with about 30% left, but some days in at 30% at about 5pm. If I'm not going home straight after work, I try to minimise my usage at that point.
Screen on time and to drain the battery the most.

I think the custom watch faces drain the battery more than stock.

Agreed though the reason for that is pure battery size. The Gear has a tiny battery so will charge quicker.:good:
---------- Post added at 08:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:32 PM ----------
Add to the OP point the Sony has that connection port PLUS it is water resistant.
I would not mind missing the charging port on the Gear IF we could purchase extra cradles but according to the Samsung rep' here they don't even have a part number for the cradle. If we break that cradle the watch becomes useless. That is rather absurd.
I carry charging equipment with me everywhere. Might as well. Useful for other devices too.

I carry the cradle. It's pretty small relatively speaking.
I will admit it'd be nice if we could plug it in while it's on our wrists, though.
Would also be nice if we could buy more of the cradles too, in case we lose one. Probably expensive tho.

I don't know about Lightflow since I don't use it, but the other wakelock is because of location. Google has not yet figured out how to use location services without it checking something every couple seconds. I wold just turn location off altogether. Or at the very least you can go into wifi settings > advanced > uncheck always scanning, and then go to the google settings app > Google location reporting and turn those off.
I will disable location all together and will answer if it helped me. Thanks bro!

and thats about the same as i see on my n6, how is that better than the 5.5-7 hours sot that i see on my nexus 6? or maybe you cant do the math..
Haha. Yeah cause out of context pics do "talking". Even if it was better (which its not) and not "fake" (which it is) its still trolling. Seriously, who cares what a note 4 can do with battery here? No one.

Its not about fanboys. Its about people coming in here from other devices thinking they're posting some sort of revelation. Fact is no one here even posted any context shots, background info or anything useful - including myself. Do I think I could get 8 hours? Yeah probably. Do I care? No.
Trolls stop hijacking a thread about someone who has an actual issue to try and prove your "manhood" with your battery screenshots.

i can as well, depending how i want to use my n6. and ive hit 9 hours, watching movies. but mostly with the way i use my n6, i see between 5.5-7 hours sot daily. anyways, this nexus 6 thread, is in a nexus 6 section, of the nexus 6 xda site. note 4 users just popping in to claim that they have better batteries are just trolling, if not childish.
i wont hurt your feelings anymore ..guess im not entirely sure where your confusion is coming from or what you find potentially trollish about that..i dont even have the energy to waste my time trying to desensitize your ignorance..do what you think is right and to hell with your popularity
for those note 4 users, i just posted a screenshot in the note 4 benchmark thread.. i dont really care about battery life, since anything above 5 hour sot is unimportant to me, because ill never use it in a full day. but it is important to me how my nexus 6 performs, do you think your device can compare? lol http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58722333&postcount=14
Okay guys it would be very nice if you could stop abusing my thread now.
I picked the lkkernel 1.12.1 and deactivating GPS+ disableing mpdecision lowered my Idle usage by 90%. Using it for 1,5hours and still have 92%.. thanks for the Tipps.
Bzw, Simms, how die u get 58k antutu?! Can u tell me ur setup and settings?
