Hey Folks,
Any advice? Here's my situation. I just started a contract with Verizon about 3 months ago with an HTC One. I really wanted a Moto X, but at the time, I was told that the Moto X only came at a max 16 GB storage, and I needed more than that. I learned that 32GB was available...after the 14 day return policy had expired. I've been lusting after a Moto X since, more and more. I'm at the point where I'm close to buying one and paying full price. BUT if anyone knows of a way I could avoid that full price thing, please do tell. I'll probably end up selling the HTC One to try to recoup the cost. Unless I can find someone to trade. Not sure. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!
Thanks much!

Swappa.com. That's the best site for buying/selling/trading Android devices. No need to pay full price.

You can Sell the HTC One on Swappa and get enough out of it to pay all but $150-200 of an off contract motomaker.
Sell it, find a code for $150 off the moto x, buy the X, profit
I sold my One for $490, so that covered the $446 (with taxes) of the 32gb moto x.
Swappa. Huh. Never heard of it. I'll give it a look-see. Thanks for the advice!

Hi,
I'm making a trip to the US within a few weeks and I was hoping to buy a nexus one over there, because this will be cheaper rather than buying it in Europe.
Is it possible for a foreigner to buy a nexus one?
And I was wondering if an American Nexus (unlocked) will work in Europe?
I read somewhere that the US-version doesn't have multitouch. If so, is this fixable?
Thanks in advance
For your information
Google has stopped selling Nexus One and they're discontinued.
The only place you can look for is eBay or craiglist in which I don't think it would be any cheaper.
Besides, there is a rumor that Google is gonna sell Nexus Two by this Christmas
You can register as a developer and buy a brand new nexus one.
And it should work fine in Europe. Just check which frequency you wish to use for 3g in Europe because it may not be compatible.
They're out of stock. Unless you'll be in the states for a few months, u won't get it.... and by then the next Nexus phone will be out.
Try eBay or Craigslist. But I suggest you wait.

They are in stock right now.
Hmm, I hope they are still/again in stock when I arrive in the US (14th november).
Thanks for the answers anyway!
Do you need to be a developer to buy the nexus?
Isn't it possible to walk in a store and just buy the phone?

That was the problem with the initial release of the N1. They didn't sell via brick and mortar stores, only online. Because of this, the N1 sales suffered....so they say.
I saw it as a silver lining, meaning only a select few who know how to use this phone should have it lol...
Like others have said, try ebay or craigslist. Then have it shipped to a stateside residence that you will be at, maybe a relative or good friend. Just brainstorming....GL
+1 for Ebay...a friend just picked one up from there.
Basically, I bought a Thunderbolt back in March when it launched. That is to say, my mom did as a late birthday gift, and she bought the buyback program with it. So, if I trade in my TB now, I'll get $350 back that I can put towards a Droid 3, which drops it down to lower than the Verizon off contract price.
(if it wasn't clear, I want to get one off contract, but money is fairly tight and saving that extra 100 or so dollars is a make or break thing)
My problem is, both Best Buys in my area don't seem to have the Droid 3 in stock. I heard rumors they were supposed to get them in today, but the site is pretty bad at confirming or debunking that. Has anybody been able to find one in retail?
I work at best buy mobile and no store in all of California will get the Droid 3 it will only be sold online. Can't speak for other states.

No New Hampshire store is currently planning on getting it either. We went in the other day to check and we were told that, so we had to go to a Verizon store instead.
I was told at a local Best Buy that the particular store I was in wasn't going to have them in stock. However, they said they could order it in if I wanted one through them.
So that's what I'm planning on doing... every time I go in a Verizon store, someone lies to me after a 45 minute wait to talk to someone, so it works out well for me....
Aren't the off contract prices higher in the third party vendors that from Verizon for the D3?

Yes, but my mom bought the Buyback program for the Thunderbolt, so $350 back in the form of a gift card brings it down to less than it would cost off contract from Verizon, full price.
If I get the money from the TB, that brings it down to ~$300, whereas from Big Red, I'd still have to pay $460.
But, working under the assumption that no Best Buy will be getting them in, can I still trade in my TB in store, go back to my Droid 2 temporarily and get a Droid 3 online using the $350 gift card I'd get for the TB?

You could always just try to get someone to buy that credit off you (like a family member who was planning on a big purchase from Best Buy) and you can get yours at Verizon and have it even cheaper!

A cunning idea, but I'm not exactly sure it'd work...not many people I know would be seeking such a thing.
Yeah odd, no D3 at the Best Buy here in Syracuse NY.
I am a Best Buy Mobile employee and can tell you that no Best Buy stores will carry the Droid 3; this is on the decision of Best Buy Mobile, due to the issues with the Droid X, the Droid 2, and the Droid X2; they will only be availabe through Best Buy via the Best Buy website; our store (in Illinois) doesn't even have a demo model (live or dummy).

How could the worst droid ever made become the Best Buy? I got my Best Sell when I found someone to buy this crap.
Nice job reviving a thread thats over a year old.
The VZW rep told me that Moto partnered with Moto to guarantee that if you purchase Asurion, that you'll receive an exact replacement for your customized Moto X should it ever need replacing. What's more, they'll overnight you a temporary phone until yours can be built.
This is the only time i've seriously considered Asurion for any of my devices. Did you?

this is more of a discussion thread fyi. but just because no one has replied, ill share my thoughts. I always use asurion mainly because of how easy it is. You can do everything through a verizon store (for me) and it makes it just too easy to go else where. I walk in, say my phone sucks, they say ok without doing much of any kind of checks because they don't care, then if it is manufacturer warranty they ship me a new one within two days (im not motomaker customer) and thats it. I am never without a phone. I never have to deal with a rep on the phone. They never ask any questions really at the store because the reps know its just going to get sent back to moto for manufacturer warranty. If i screw the phone up some how, you just let someone steal that thing and get a new one for 100$ within two days. Just never had a problem or difficulty with them so it makes using them worth it.
when i use the word new i mean replacement fyi. Since im not a motomaker customer they don't have to build a new one for me so i just get replacements, which i have never had an issue with either.
FWIW - my wife tried to replace her DROID4 with Asurion and because the phone is "no longer manufactured", they tried to give her an LG Enact. For $99. Needless to say, I wasn't thrilled with the experience.

i have friends that have been in the same situation but when they called back in they gave them the option of different kinds of phones. they were always happy with the phone that they could get. sometimes they would just get the newest version of the phone that had been released.
I used to have it on the past devices, but dropped it on this upgrade. $10/mo for 24 months =240 + $149 deductible (as quoted by vzw) ends up being $389. Let's be honest, the moto x will be last years model in less than a year and available on Swappa.com for $200-250 on the off chance I break my phone (which I have yet to brake one). It didn't feel right paying for nothing like that. Their replacements are refurbs also, I had a friend that went through four swaps before getting one that worked.

Yup, 2 year warranty through Motorola is $85 for 2 years with a $40 deductible per incident. :good:
I dropped Asurion due to the confusion regarding the covering of the MotoX. I went with SquareTrade--except, I don't think they explicitly cover the MotoMaker ones. I registered it under a black MotoX.
I agree on the Motorola extended service plan. Great price and much better deal than Asurion.

Hi 640k!
This is definitely not the feeling we want you and your wife to have about us. We would love the opportunity to change your mind about us. How long has your wife had her replacement phone? Is there something in particular that she does not like? Perhaps we can help!

It's always a challenge when the manufacturer stops producing the device. Hopefully your wife is enjoying her new phone. Should you need assistance in the future, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Hello ASMT,
I was curious, with my MotoMaker Moto X, if I ever need to use my Asurion policy for my phone, will I be able to get a replacement that is customized as well? With Verizon blocking our ability to get MotoCare, I was very concerned I'd be left with a generic Moto X if I ever have to go through you for insurance.
Thanks!

Don't bother. Just use the motorola insurance. It's much cheaper and you can be assured that you'll not lose the customization.

Hey gang, I've got a bit of a conundrum here.
I'm the lucky owner of a Nexus 5 and it's a terrific phone. Problem is, my first love was the Moto X. I went with the N5 because it was cheaper off-contract as I currently have NET10. I'm still a little bummed that I didn't get the Moto X and I'm sure it'd be easy to trade the N5 for one but first I'd really like to try one out. Are there any good carriers out there that I can pick up a Moto X from and test drive it for a bit and then return it without taking too much of a financial hit? Carrier doesn't really matter, I want to test out the phone itself, not the service.
Ideally, the phone would be perfect for me and I would be able to trade someone's upgrade for a brand new Moto X from motomaker. Know of any reputable places where people trade phone upgrades?
Thanks all!
Whoops! Just realized this should go in Q&A. Please ignore!
Republic wireless just started selling the moto x for 299 with no contract and a 30 day money back guarantee . if you return it within that time, all you pay is the $10 shipping
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
trust me go to ebay look up Gazelle store they got good condition moto x going for $340 and obviously off contract. 30 day returns and even free return shipping. I was stuck in the same situation as you choosing between these two. Problem is still haven't decided.

I had the Nexus 5 first, then got the moto x. Quickly fell in love with it and returned the N5.
I went thru 4 devices in the past few months and the only one I paid any sort of restocking fee was the Note 3.
If I were you, go to a radioshack and grab a moto x on a new line with a new carrier, try it out.
I know you will like it. its like your Nexus only better in the hand, with older software, and extra features.
