People unable to hear me on voice calls. - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Let me preface by saying I very very rarely take or make voice calls. This has been a persistent issue as far back as I can remember. As I make/receive very few voice calls I chalked this up to an issue on the other end. Is has become quite apparent it's my phone that's the issue. I've run a multitude of different roms. I never did try to see if one was improved over the other. I did read a while back about some mod to disable a noise cancelling Mic. Does anyone who suffered from this have any insight? I have the T-Mobile flavor m7.

[Q] Can Anyone Reliably Make and Receive Calls?

I recently switched from an iPhone 5 to the One Dev Edition. After having some signal issues, I went to AT&T, got a microSIM, they switched me an Android data plan, etc. But I'm still having an issue where I can't reliably send and receive calls, especially from my desk at work. I can dial the number and hit Call but that's it. No ringing, nothing. Just dead air, then the "call" ends. If the call does go through, I can hear the other person but they can't hear me. Same thing when receiving a call. I'll hear them but they can't hear me. Sometimes my phone won't ring and it just rolls to voice mail. I can see the signal switching from LTE to H, etc, and I have practically full bar strength. I just don't understand why the calls aren't going through.
Is this an issue with the phone itself? Something with AT&T? Is there a newer radio firmware I can try flashing? I didn't have any issues with the iPhone 5, and I even had my coworker put his iPhone into field test mode so we could compare the numeric signal and they're about even, though the iPhone usually does have a slightly better db signal. I really like the One but not being able to send or receive calls while at my desk is a deal breaker.
Thanks!
From the sounds of it, you are running the stock firmware still? Any root or other possible modifications? If you answered Yes then no to those questions, I would head back to the AT&T store and have them try it out, if anything they should be able to take your SIM card and put it into another Android device and see what happens.
What about text/data, do those work?
You said mainly at your desk you notice this issue, so does that mean it happens at other places as well, same symptoms (full bars, allows to send call then nothing?) You may just be the lucky contestant with a defunct unit, HTC should be able to help you out.
I would suggest first going to AT&T store, try out their suggestions, then if anything give HTC a call/email to see if they can be of any help. At this point I would stay away from flashing custom radios as they may void your warranty then you will really be up $hit creek.
Sounds like att.
I had this problem with tmobile once. The signal wasn't strong enough and it wouldn't call.
Some please are spotty.
Something is wrong with your phone. That should be obvious. Of course the vast majority of people who got this phone can reliably make and receive calls or it would be the biggest mobile phone bust in history.
Sorry to be blunt but you already know it's not the signal so it has to be a defect in the phone.
Thanks for the suggestions. This is the stock Dev Edition ROM. I haven't made any changes other other than just installing apps.
I haven't made a lot of calls but I don't seem to have an issue any where else.
No issues with LTE. Data has been fine.
I wasn't sure if AT&T would assist since this is the Dev Edition but that's worth a shot to have them run some tests on it. Otherwise I'll try to get a replacement (or refund) from HTC.
Thanks!

[Q] DTMF Tones Heard Randomly in Call

Randomly for the last few weeks, I've heard random DTMF tones while i'm in a call. I always assumed it was the person on the other end just hitting buttons on their phone, but it happens when I'm talking to someone who is on a landline or cell phone. They are not hitting buttons by mistake and neither am I. What's weird is I'm the only one who hears the tones! Both parties (my mother and my wife, mostly) both have AT&T for service.
I have searched and saw that some EVO users experienced this while using Google Voice, but I'm not using it when I'm making calls. I have it INSTALLED, but I'm not actually using it to make calls.
I'm running:
Android 4.2.2 BrightstarUS RUU W/ OTA
Radio: 4a.17.3250.14_10.39.1150.04L
with included Kernel from the RUU
This is a rock-solid build for me, constantly getting me LTE in a fringe area, and I'm super happy with it. I'd uninstall GV, but I need it for texting. Aside from that, Any thoughts?

[Q] Mic issues, people can't hear me

I'm having an issue where sometimes people cannot hear me on phone calls. It's complete random but does happen 1-2x a day. It's regardless of whether or not I'm on Wi-Fi or carrier data. Or even if I'm dialing or receiving the call. If i disconnect the call and try a second time, it works fine. I've tried searching but the only solutions i found are related to a screen protector blocking the mic (which isn't the issue in my case). Also regardless of whether I'm using the phone, speakerphone, or even Bluetooth, Can anyone help?

You are not alone. I have been having the same issue on my VZW version. Ppl say that my voice cuts in and out. I can't find a solution anywhere. I'm about to flash the stock firmware(I'm still running stock) and see if that does anything.

Major problems with voice calls.

I've had an issue twice now where I can't make or answer voice calls. When I answer I get nothing but silence, and the other person says it keeps ringing, and when I call I get nothing but silence (no ring or anything on my end, but it does ring for the person I'm calling.). I updated to the OTA after getting it yesterday, and things seemed to be fixed, but today it is doing it again. I have great signal (both LTE and the older network), IMS registered, and not roaming. Has anyone else had this problem? It is extremely frustrating.
Edit: Texts work, mobile data works, everything except calls.
I've noticed the call quality on 1X has been pretty poor. Also, I've had call roaming pop up a couple of times where I've never had any problems in the past. I haven't experienced exactly what you describe tough. We need VoLTE, and we need it quick.
It's still going today. I'm going to take the phone back to Verizon. Completely unacceptable.
Update: Verizon swapped out two SIMs and still couldn't figure it out. Sending me a brand new one.

Question Call Quality?

Has any one noticed any issues with call quality? I am getting a noise reduction hiss. Every time the remote caller speaks I hear a background hiss around their voice. Once they stop speaking the background his goes away.
Did not get this on my pixel 6.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
Thanks,
RJR
Not here, tried a lot of calls (i use a lot the phone for work) and nothing, audio quality in-call is perfect. Sometimes those problems are on the other side and not ours. Do you have this with every call?
What is happening is when someone on the other end is talking you hear them talking with a slight background hiss. Once they stop talking everything goes silent.
I am accustomed to always hearing a very slight hiss when the call is connected whether the other party is talking or not.
Not sure if this is the new norm with cell phone moving forward.

call quality has been superb for me via US Mobile.
No issues here with Cricket Wireless as my carrier.
Call quality has been great on both Tello and SafeLink.

is it one particular caller or multiple?

Its more data efficient to take the "silent" times and actually just transmit silence (a long line of "0"'s).
I've had several calls, and all were crystal clear. So much so I think I'm on a land line. Not sure what network you use, but that may have something to do with it. Also what signal you're using at the time (5G, LTE, Wi-Fi calling, etc).
I have been reading up on this and it seems that what I am hearing is called comfort noise when the other party is speaking. It is most prevalent when the volume is set all the way down.
I am trying to find out if my pixel is defected or if everyone is hearing the same same thing since this was not the case with my Pixel 6.

did you get any progress with diagnosing?
i have the same issue. a hissing noise on-top of the caller voice, that reduces to crackles when the other side is not speaking. its with multiple callers on the same network. it happens with or without wifi calling. on regular calls using the phone app and on calls using telegram or whatsapp. i tried on 4g and 3g. it starts hissing in while making the calling sound, that means its something in the hardware. the device is rooted, and "converted" to GVU6C (global) model from G03Z5 (japan) using an alteration of the init file and also installed VOLTE module and enabled 5G using an app called network signal guru.

Unfortunately, I ended having the call speaker (top) replaced. Did not cost anything since it was under warranty. Depending on your service center it is usually a one-day repair.

i found this on google support. it seems like a common issue. thats a shame. I'll have to try my luck with the importer in my country because there is no official support for google devices. fml.
I faced a different kind of issue. Every 2/10 calls i hear some sort of clicking noise In my phone earpiece. It disappears after a few seconds but it happens sometimes. I got scared when it started happening the first few times. I think this issue appeared after the November update. Anyone else faced this?

I'm not seeing this as a common issue but merely a few users. Support told them to either return the device or get it fixed. Returning after the 15 day period is unfortunate because you'll get sent a refurb. However, if it's noticed before 15 days after receipt then you can return it, get your money back and then buy another new device. I believe the return period for hardware related issues should be at least 30 days but that doesn't seem like it's in the cards. In your case without support I'm not sure there is anything you can do other than get it fixed which is a bummer. My call quality has been stellar as others here have said so I hope you and the OP can get this resolved.
