Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone with the right Dev skills and some free time could work on bringing Omni ROM to the Moto X... I know we don't have much interest in these custom ROMs cuz we would be loosing the brilliant features we paid for... But you gotta say OMNI has some pretty cool features like split window etc as well.... So what say?!?

If you want Split Window you should lookup the ROM that's forbidden from XDA. But I agree anyways.

I'll flash on the x when I'm over active notificaton and touchless...or updates stop...whichever comes first.
I flashed hundreds of roms on my S2 and N7 tho.
My daughter uses the tab 3 7" only....so I was going to leave it alone ...but it lagged horrifically out of the box. LOL. Its still stock, but rooted and debloated now and it is zippy now. Its no N7, but close.
Just don't have the patients for anything not 100 percent stable and fully functioning anymore. And the X is terribly sweet on stock with xposed. One day I'll tinker tho.

All I did to the tab 3 was factory reset, flash twrp and root. It was already WAY quicker....then I froze every single Samsung thing and some Google stuff. And greenified everything...especially all her games. Oh...and ad blocked. No more dating site ads on her kids games. Rediculous. LOL
I was almost ready to return it...my old Captivate was quicker than the tab 3 out of the box. Hate Samsung! LOL. Only bought it for her cause of price...and SD card for movies. Otherwise she'd have an N7 too.

In general...for the captivate and S2 anyway....you could flash this, that and the other thing with no brick worries....as long as you did it right. Screwed up? Odin stock back on. Any version.

Seeing Google owns Motorola what do you think the wait time would be for Kit Kat? Seeing the X has yet to see 4.3 I have a sinking feeling it might be awhile.
There are phones that have been out a lot longer that don't have 4.3... And 4.3 is in the testing stages... Be patient it has only been 2 months... They're still doing bug fixes... And with 4.4 right around the corner they may or may not just move to that.
Motorola doesn't get special privileges for android. They get access when everyone else does.

Being that its very close to stock Android, however, should make the upgrades a little more seamless. Theres not much to change except the specific Android functions, which might be there anyways like the touchless stuff.

I'm with everyone else on this. Could be a while, especially if you're on VZW. Hoping the developer community kicks into high gear here pretty soon and we start seeing 4.3 ROM's well before it is an official OTA. Same for Kit Kat.
My question is: is there really a need for the update? Granted, I do want wish to install some apps that only work only with 4.3. But they are not that necessary.
With the leaks about 4.4, printing and payment option, seriously, do you really need those things?

I've learned my lesson with non nexus phones lol. Don't expect any timely updates. I'm just gonna pick up a Nexus 5 to mess with the newest software and development. Even if development finally picks up with this phone the only good Roms (at least for me) will be the Roms based off stock and that means I'll have to wait until an official 4.4. So to curb my need for rooting and flashing I'll just use a nexus lol.

They are pushing more and more system stuff into the Play Store, and the Moto X is about as well optimized for that as can be, so at least we have that. As much as I love the AOSP I'd be happy if Googlrola pushed everything but the kernel into play services, at least for their phones.
This phone is breaking my crackflashing habit, which is probably good for me, my career, and my family.

I have a feeling that once developers start writing more roms for the Moto X, we'll get in a nice groove in terms of latest versions of Android. Whether or not it's stock-based, PA, CM, or OmniRom remains to be seen though
On the dev edition Moto X? I mean the phone is fully unlocked, isnt it? There are hardly any roms available..
Well if you bought a developer edition wouldn't you cook your own rom?

Agreed. Similar to the G2, other than a few tweaks here and there, building a ROM defeats a lot of the stock features. Which in my opinion like the X, are very useful.
Now, if we were taking touchwiz, ROMS are needed to get rid of a lot of the crap!!!

People could add the features on top of the current features.
For instance, it'd be nice to be able to modify quick setting tiles, center clock, etc. Xposed will hopefully give us those options though.

The S4 has a lot of useless gimmicky features. LG implements just enough useful features to not make it over the top like touchwiz. I definitely prefer the Moto X over those two but I just needed to stand up for the G2 which was a great device. The G2 was plenty fast and it didn't need AOSP.

If you use GravityBox you can tweak tiles, clock, battery and much more.
bootloaders locked on ATT and Verizon probably don't help. I wonder what % of X's were sold through them.
I'll also agree with the fact that we'd give up some features with standard ROMS like AOSP, slimbean, PA, etc.

We shouldn't be standing up for any OEMs who crap android and make it harder to update
Why did the moto X get updated so fast? It's essentially stock android with value added features on top of it. G2 is fast? Sure it's running the latest awesome soc but over time without updates it'll be left out to die a painful death.
So this may sound like a silly question, but I don't understand why anyone would buy a Moto X is they are going to flash a ROM that isn't blur based. Don't you lose all the functionality that makes Moto X great? Like the performance benifits of the Motorola X8, the active display, the touchless controlls... even the performance on the Moto X is well above what the tech specs would lead you to believe.
I used to be a flashaholic with previous phones but the only flash I did on the Moto X was a pre rooted stock based rom and I haven't felt the need to go AOSP. I broke my screen and Moto gave me a new one that I just got today ... contemplating what to do with my flashing situation to my new one since I have a fresh start.

I agree I tried PAC ROM and it lasted about an hour and I went back to stock. I missed active notifications and touchless control. I mean the ROM was great very smooth just missed what made my maxx a maxx. However there are people that may not use active notification and touchless control so a ROM is fine for them. I will never put another ROM on my phone I love it stock with xposed and gravity box. To me its the best of both worlds. And gravity box is updated every week or two with new features so it never gets stale. To each their own that is what i love about android there is something for everyone unlike apple which is take what we give you.

Haha yah I know what you mean. Thanks for the reply! I was wondering if I was missing something like the features could be installed into CM or something but I guess I'm staying Blur On previous moto phones I always flashed CM or something similar I hated blur ... but the Google owned Moto X Blur is really AOSP with some nice features on top taking advantage of the X8.
EDIT: Also I was reading about Gravitybox as you replied to this I do think I'm gonna install that.
Gravity box will give you all or most the features of the custom roms and let you keep the Moto x features.

Because some people believe that "pure" AOSP (even though custom roms aren't pure AOSP) is the be-all-end-all of Android.
Yea, i used to be a flasholic too whit my previous nexus 4, but I don't know why I just feel great whit the stock ROM of the moto X.
Active display its really great and extremely useful, maybe I will never want to have led notifications again. I want active nots forever In every future phone from now.
By the way, I think we don't need to flash Roms because we have almost native android, and if we use gravity box the result its better that cm or aosp.
THE ONLY TWO THINGS that I really miss are: Halo (PA) and MIUI for the weekends.

Remember that with a custom ROM you lose touch less control moto assist and notifications. For me that is a deal breaker I think that is why there is not a huge amount of people looking for ROMs. Most of what makes a rom great is the customization which we can do with exposed.
I really wished there would be more Stock Based Custom ROMs, but there's only two, Eclipse and KangKat, which are great, but I want more choices. lol. I'm thinking about making my own ROM..
I think the same...
Customs dont worth it if you loose intelligent notifications and touchless control.
Anyway, I miss miui

I wonder if the devs would have a better chance with the moto x style just because it'll be easier to obtain here in the states versus the moto x pro. I mean I'd stay with my nexus6 if I could get the moto enhancements. I just have my doubts. If it hasn't been done already, I'm starting to doubt it ever gets done.
