Battery life is poor after root - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I have problem and I think it's connected with rooting ma Z1. After rooting the battery life is very poor. After fully charging my Z1, turning on Stamina mod it's shows that phone will work for about 12h and about 23h standby. My father also has Z1 and it shows that on standby it will work for more then 2-3days (I can't remember exactly now).
After rooting I installed GMD Gesture Controll app and Xposed framework with the following modules:
- Advanced power menu
- Hide Stamina mode icon
- NFC LockScreenOff Enabler
- Xposed Recent Tasks RAM
- YouTube AdAway
- Z1 Camera Tweaks
Do you have any idea what is the problem?

You answered your self.
That's not rooting problem, that's apps problem.
You are using tweaks that are draining your battery.
Rooting will only give you administrative privileges, nothing more...
You said you are using Xposed tweets - I'm sure there's problem.

I highly doubt that those tweaks are the cause of the battery drain but to be sure I would flash a fresh ROM install without tweaks and xposed installed and see how your battery life is. Don't restore anything and be sure to perform a full wipe prior to flashing the ROM, no advanced restores. If the problem with the battery goes away then you've found its one of them. Then all you do is install them one at a time until you notice drain, might take a while to test but it'll work.

stamina mode useless?

I understand how it works. But since i dont have any apps installed cause its a new phone, will stamina mode have an impact in my battery life? I tested it and no significant differences in screen off. Its the same one hour 1 percent with or without stamina mode.. The only time i get significant battery improvement is when i disabled google play services.
It also works for disabling the mobile data traffic while the screen is off, resulting in less power consumption and less costs.

It's not important do you have apps or not - I'm using it without any exception (rules in stamina mode), only to disable mobile data and wifi when my screen is off and my battery is very happy because stamina MOD.
It'll still upload/download your files or to be precise - it'll finish to up/dl file if you lock screen in the middle of dl/up process and that great.
The thing is, many apps (stock/system apps) are using network to check for updates (email, XDA, tapatalk....) and this MOD prevent that and saves battery life.

new phone or no app are not important
stamina mod at first just try to prevent some feature to work while phone is in standby
after few days stamina learn from How u use ur phone.
then u will get *4 standby time when turn it on.
so let it to learn from u.
(u can find more about stamina mod in Xperia Z forums cause that was first time of it and thr s lots of thread about it.)

If i may ask a question regarding the stamina mode, i use it all the time and i see major improvement for battery, but i'm wondering since i use Greenify as well, is it worth to use them at the same time or do i need only one of them?

Stamina Mod is enough for power-saving
and cause it s official from Xperia it can work properly and better than another 3rd-party apps with ur device.
and also there s snapdragon guru for snapdragon powered devices official from Qualcomm

I agree... mostly - i think using Greenify too will save a little more energy, because it will terminate the app completely and not just it's data/wifi connection.
Or am i totally wrong?
Stamina mode is all u need.. It terminates the apps and data

[Q] Galaxy S3 LTE i9305 Battery drain (Even in Airplane mode)

Hello,
I've searched the forums about battery drain problems regarding android phones in airplane mode but each subjects seemed different to mine.
I own a Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE i9305 under Android 4.3.
The phone is rooted, Greenify installed, hoping saving battery life but...
I've tried to do a full data reset + reinstallation of Android 4.3 official, with no success.
I've done the folowing experience 3 times with the following similar behaviour as last time :
- Phone fully charged before to go to bed, Airplane mode activated.
7 hours later :
- Battery is at 80%
- 0 minute in deep sleep, all the time in awake state.
Several behaviours noted by Wakelock detector and Gsam Battery Monitor :
- Device Idle and androidOS consumed 80% of the 20% used
- Misc processes seem to have used a lot of battery among them :
- AlarmManager
- PowerManagerService.WakeLocks
- KeyEvents
I'm including screenshots to illustrate all this.
If anyone has been thru this problem I'd be glad to know how to solve it.
Thank you !

Hi,
I do not have the exact same problem, but my phone drains battery more than often. With wifi, mobile data etc turned off, i have ~10% of drain overnight (7~8 hours). But my phone does enter in deep sleep and battery stats shows me nothing weird (most of battery is being taken from phone iddle /standby cell), it is driving me nuts! My wife have the same phone as mine, same firmware, same system apps, the only diference is mine have the new bootloader, but her phone drains almost half than mine. I'm now reinstalling the firmware with the exact same steps i did in her phone and if someone want i post some screenshots later.
Did you tried installing some custom roms out here who have not all the system apps the original package have?

I am using 4.3 Alliance Rom with boeffla kernel. I had the same problem with battery drain during airplane mode. While I was at work with airplane mode on, I lost nearly 20% in one hour. Because of it I switched to 4.4.2 aosp rom "aosb 1.3.0. Probam" (meanwhile there is 1.3.2 published) but there I had music stuttering and camera issues, but perfect battery life. Because of the problems I decided to go back to 4.3 and gave Alliance Rom another chance. And now the battery life is wonderful like on 4.4.2.
Maybe try the same way, first to update on an aosp rom with excellent battery life and then go back to android 4.3. Maybe this will solve your problem, too.

Hi,
By any chance, do you have XPOSED framework enabled and do you use for example Wanam Xposed module ? If an option like "Turn on screen when unplugged" is unchecked (ie if you don't want your phone to wake up after you unplug it from USB), you may encounter battery drain. It seems that sometimes the phone doesn't enter in deep sleep if the USB cable is unplugged from a PC in this case. I have this kind of battery drain and since I've checked "Turn on screen when unplugged" option, no more battery drain after a reboot.
I'm not sure but you must give it a try as it worked for me. No problem so far.... I hope it will help.
Hi and thank you all,
I'm taking good note of your advices.
I did install Xposed and Wanam. I didn't pay attention to this option and since then completly reinstalled 4.3 official ROM. Battery drain vanished.
I now have the phone going to deep sleep normaly.
I've been reinstalling all my apps slowly one after the other, and didn't try yet to reinstall Wanam Xposed, as I know it modifies the system relatively deeply.
But the envy is here and I think I'll install it again. Ok, let's go, I'll do it tonight. I'll pay attention to "Turn on screen when unplugged" option and will ensure it is checked !
It's worth trying, though all these battery draining problems seem mysterious...
I'll post a reply in a few days with the results...
By the way, I installed Agni kernel wich uses Boeffla engine too. After activating "Extreme battery save" mode, the battery life has doubled or so. I'm happy about this.
Thank you again, and let's see how xposed wanam behaves...
GREAT.

CPU usage always 40-70%

Hi
Why my Z3 Compact always use a lot of CPU usage even all apps closed??? it makes my phone overheating and my phone never go sleep with screen on/off and idle. for other phones, CPU usage always 1% when in idle. i uninstalled and frozen all bloatware apps but it's not helping. my phone is running lollipop 5.1.1 (latest)

Just follow the OP's guide as closely as you can (post #3 & 4) - I only installed Greenify, Amplify & BBS and I omitted Power Nap as I use Sony's Stamina mod.
If you cant find some of his suggestions/items then thats because you dont have them, so no worry.
Once you have completed the guide make a log/dump (at the bottom of post #4) and the experts/OP will view it and assist you where necessary -really amazing support on the site
I am also using @moly82's AiO v2 debloat ROM slightly modified and together with above I have ZERO battery drain over night/idle - you can check my log/dump on the site.
PS: I know of lately I have been 'pushing' @vaisakh7's Extreme Battery Life thread whenever possible like it is the fix-all solution. Probably it is not
but it made a HUGH impact on my battery life and really feel everybody should give it a try - if for nothing else than just to streamline the phone's
kernel/alarms & battery-wise.
apart from when idle/overnight, you noticed battery improvements when phone is active too? will check it btw seems a very well done battery saver tutorial

Sorry if OT and not sure if your reply was aimed at me...but this how my phone has been behaving the last couple of days (using your AiO v2 ROM and @vaisakh7's battery guide). Using the phone in my usual way: some reading, surfing, music, mails/texts but no gaming.

Battery guide for Marshmallow

I installed Marshmallow a couple of days back. With features like Doze I expected better battery life with the stock experience (I previously had Xposed with Amplify Pro and Greenify Donate along with Power Nap, so I used to lose about 2℅ battery overnight.) However I lost 20℅ battery overnight. These are some tweaks I applied and last night I didn't even lose a single per cent overnight.
1. Use Greenify, it works even better on Marshmallow. It compliments Doze which kicks in only after an hour of the phone being stationery. (Search for the Greenify post on Doze in Google Plus)
2. Head over to the Apps tab and press the gear icon on top. Then proceed to disable unnecesaary App Permissions. You will be amazed how appls like Hotstar use body sensors which is totally not needed.
3. Enable Developer Options and head over to the tab called inactive Apps. Toggle Apps you rarely use.
And that's it! Let me know how it goes for you along with how much standby time you gained.

Only 1% battery drain without trying any of these and on wifi whole night, doze is greenify only, but works only when no sensor works
Doze looking great
Sent from my Moto G 2014 using XDA Forums
After opening apps they show as active, but does the OS toggle them to inactive by itself after a while?
Battery not draining in night, but drains faster in day time
I think doze is working fine but Google play services is missbehaving. There ids only 1-2% draining in the full night but I don't know why , since morning Google play services keep my phone awake and then reduces battery much faster. This happen s for the whole day.

Battery Life and Wakelocks

Hi guys,
so i newly setup my phone recently with OOS 4.0.3 in order to have a clean phone for the most efficient use.
For my surprise, for the first time using the 3T my energy efficiency was very good, i managed to get 4,5h SOT with the first 50% because i had almost no drain when the screen was turned off.
I attached the screenshots.
Basically, i just flashed OOS 4.0.3 and the newest franco kernel and magisk for root. I didnt use greenify (which i usually do), just the strict standby option in the android settings.
So far so good, but now to the part i cant understand.
I installed gsam battery monitor and gave it root access, so i can have detailed battery information.
From that point, i experienced again the standby drain combined with wakelooks, as u can see in the screenshot starting around 60% of the battery.
So far i uninstalled the app, i used greenify, but i cant get back when i had no wakelocks.
Is it really because of Gsam Battery? How can get away the standby drain without setting up the phone completely new?
PS: I also deactivated some of the access rights of apps, especially for play services.
Is it possible that they regain the access by themselves or that google play services is draining the battery

Don't deactivate app rights of play services. It would break the functionality randomly and u won't know what happened. Just enable and reboot. Next time something happens, check the stat in gsam battery monitor. It's a good app and I am using it from 3 years.
It's not gsam I've had it installed on every phone for years and I always get amazing battery life.
I dont use google apps at all besides gmail and maps sometimes. But ill try around if it makes a difference.
I also cant believe that GSAM really is the problem there, but i didnt change anything else, i was just surprised of the good battery life and wanted to see the characteristics of battery statistics when i have a normal standby drain.
And immediatelly from that point on, the standby drain changed as u can see on the screenshots, even after uninstalling GSAM.
I now get 2h SOT with 50%, not 4,5.
So, is it possible that anything influencing that is changing by itself?
I didnt install any app or changed any setting, all i use was setted up in the beginning (franco, magisk, viper, all apps)
Yes google play store and google play services if you downloaded it and installed it that way? Google ruins battery life very randomly. If you restored a titanium backup or sideloaded the app then I have no clue. Even if you didnt do anything different there are a ton of things that can go wrong with android in the background. Recharge and reboot and start over.

tried everything already + wiping cache/dalvik
I just now wiped also system and dirty flashed the ROM + the stuff i need. Ill see it that solves the deal.
I just cant accept to not have the control over my phone as thats one of the advantages of rooting. I got the same battery life with same usage with my 2,5 year old OnePlus One.
I run the same apps on every phone and this phone has doubled the performance and battery compared to my nexus 6 note 5 and nexus 6p. First phone I've owned that actually sleeps when I turn off the screen.

I found 4.0.3 would get wakelocks from location service. I have installed firmware from OOS 3.5.4 and used Leandroid, since then I've had my old battery life back.

Some parts of it only work with SuperSU, sure. The important bit that fixes the MRa big does unfortunately.
Not found a magisk equivalent, but I'm eager to find one!
I just recently got my 3T two weeks ago running OOS 4.0.3 and I also notice a lot of wakelocks, especially when on mobile data (3G/4G).
I am still tinkering to figure out what are the root causes for wakelocks in this case.
I suggest you install BetterBatteryStats from XDA, it does provide a lot of good info. GSAM is good too but I prefer BBS. You can grant it permissions to Battery_Stats if you are not rooted.
Here are my findings so far:
Google Services likes to access the GPS a lot, so I turned of Location History. This resulted in fewer wakelocks when the screen is off.
I have changed the GPS and set it to GPS Only so that it doesn't use the cell towers and WiFi to help determine a location. I am not sure if this makes a difference for wakelocks yet.
I know Nougat has doze, I am not sure how well it works...fortunately there is Aggressive Doze in the battery section of the settings. I have not tested this yet but this is something I will look into once I have determined all others aspects that may be causing wakelocks.
I do have the LED notification light enabled and I am using LightFlow to manage it. It works in conjunction with the built-in LED settings from OOS. This is fine, but I do believe this may cause wakelock issues.
Once again, in my experience, I get a lot of wakelocks when I am on mobile data compared to being on WiFi and I am not sure why there is a difference.
