I've bought a nook hd plus, after checking,it seems I've got the dodgy chip.
I'm planning on putting 10.1.3 on it,and obviously not mess with the trim kernel fix.
My question is,as long as I stay away from the trim lagfix fix will my nook be okay or should I return it?,I know it'll suffer some
lag but is that the worse thing I'll encounter?
Or will this dodgy chip eventually break my nook and make it
unusable?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I think the only effects you will see is lag. And you can sometimes clear that up by doing a nandroid backup and restore with CWM.

Thanks a lot for the reply Leapinlar, much appreciated,if that's the case i'll definitely keep the nook then,I can put up with a bit of leg,I was just worried there might be worst errors because of the chip problem, though mines the FwRev: 0×06 version which might have been patched, though not totally sure.
Once again, cheers pal, really want to keep the nook hd plus, its a fantastic bit of kit for the price.

Theres an app in the playstore, run it,and it'll show the chip your device has,if its a MAG2GA,then you've got the faulty chip?,take no notice if it says sane chip, thats misleading when it comes to the nook hd.https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.vinagre.android.emmc_check

I can get one for a slight discount at wm and wanted to know how worth it is a nook color? Is it easy to flash or more difficult than a phone. Just need some opinions. Thanks so much!
Sent from my CM7 Motorola Bravo
Basically the easiest thing you can root. Burn an image to your SD card with a couple clicks then drag over a couple files the stick it in and go through the flashing process. Completely unbrickable as long as you dont break the SD slot.

I'm going to go for a refurb with one year warranty and an sd image I have no reason to not get. Getting next week when I get paid. Just curious how is the performance in.cm7? How is 3D performace? Decent over clocking options? Sorry for the questions! Just trying to justify it when i have this phone. This tab is just so cheap and so much development! The answers are appreciated! Thanks so much.

I don't know much about 3D performance but with mine overclocked to 1.2GHrz I see no problem or lag with any game I've thrown at it. You can even play the games made for Tera CPUs using Chainfire. Most Nooks overclock to 1.2GHrz just fine.

Make sure bearing in mind that the NC is a pure e-reader that can be turned into tablet.
Must know that it has no hdmi, no gps, can't make phone call, no camera whatsover, .....
For 150 i can't be picky! Just making sure its worth it. I'll prob just do sd install for safety. Thanks for the help everyone I'm defnitely geting one next week. Is there anything like some models are incompatible with sd boot or anythng? Or if i order a refurb from b&n on ebay will I be all ready to go?

I would recommend flashing to internal because it is much easier to upgrade, back-up, and troubleshoot. Also it is more stable. Check out the Link in my Sig to get started. You can always return to stock by just making a clockwork card as the Nook has SD boot priority.

3D gaming is great on the NC. It has almost the same internals as the Droid X. I have several games demoed on youtube in my sig.
Hi, my AHD recently died and I've gotten a warranty replacement. 2 questions I have are, can I microwave this phone to erase all data, and if so, for how long? And would that be with the battery in or out? 2nd question is, how can I find out if my replacement is a refurb or new?
Thanks!!!

Oh, that would to microwave the one I have to return, not the replacement.
Thanks

WTF? Microwave?
I have no idea which Jackass movie you saw this on but I WOULD NOT SUGGEST IT
Please for godsakes dont ever try putting anything with a battery in a microwave.
Your phone has metal. Lots of it. You're seriously going to do a lot more damage than you think you're setting out to do.
Something safer than this would be utilizing a strong permanent magnet to wipe data. Still would not recommend though
Actually, saw the microwave suggestions in the A2 forums, not really sure if it was tounge in cheek...didn't read the whole thing. Just want to erase any info and the fact that is was rooted and the BL unlocked.

Flash a rom for another device. That'll brick it lol. Definitely don't microwave it. Factory reset it and smash it on the ground or something.

We have had someone do this before. MAKE SURE YOU ACTUALLY HAVE ACCIDENTAL COVERAGE. If not, you'll have just wrecked your phone and can't replace it.
Just borrow a friend's phone and call your carrier saying it fell off the counter or something (something that would have had enough force to do this, maybe say you put it on top of your car and drove away) and cracked the screen and won't turn on.
Sent from my MB886 using xda app-developers app
And if you DO end up microwaving it (the new microwave are metal safe I guess. I just got and it came with a metal rack that you put in it ) make sure you video tape it and share lol.

when my toddler microwaved my wife's old phones it only took about a half of a second to fry lol.
PS it left burn marks on the phone so bad idea for warranty but skeevydude mentions in his beginners guide to wire a 110 volt cord onto a micro usb plug it in and fry the board.

@ OP
IF you're running an unlocked bootloader I can modify the kernel to use SUPER high voltages and fry out the processor.....just throwing it out there.
@deeje00
He can always remove the sdcard....takes a whole 10 seconds

Mine does not lag at all, but other users with other installed apps report lag.

I am not sure you call it a lag but it does not feel as zippy as my old TP which the Nook has essentially replaced. I am not sure what it is but I can't put my finger on it.
Regarding the question, I would say yes to purchasing it if you don't need a camera or gps. However it does have a top notch screen and an microSD slot which is a plus.
I would buy another one if this one got damaged or lost. I don't have the lag others talk about not sure why they do and I don't but worth a try especially if you can get it local as you can return it if you don't like it.
I need a really solid Nook HD case, preferably full coverage, so i can hand the unit to my young daughter. I cant seem to find anything nook specific. Anyone have recommendations? nothing i've seen in the threads here seems to match up with what i need

I did, nothing really seemed to be baby/toddler friendly.
I figured it was going to happen someday & it did yesterday.
I know there will be no easy fix, other covering it with a piece of tape like I did.
Will this cause any harm not having the dust over or whatever it is caused not on there?
I am more afraid of having the card pop out & lose it.
Any suggestions on a better fix than tape?
Thanks
Mark

You might be able to get a replacement from B&N. They just snap in with prongs. But keep the old one, it has your serial number on it. Otherwise, no reason why tape won't suffice.
