android system battery drain - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Hey guys and gals. Ive noticed my battery draining a lot quicker than it was a few weeks ago and it turns out that my biggest drain is the "android system". I don't know what could be the cause of this but it's really starting to get frustrating. Has anyone else come across this?

Yes my battery has been driving me crazy which is why I'm doing a trade to a LG g2 today can't stand it anymore I really love blink feed,Boom sound and such but @ work I need a reliable phone that I don't have to worrie about charging I have installed Gsam battery monitor pro now for a couple weeks and it's always Android system been a fun run but thank God for Creagslist and other tradeaholics peace and good luck.

I had that same effect after the update to 4.3. It was solved by just uncheck the box at Settings/Location/Google-Apps... so GPS for Google apps off.

[Q] Battery problems out of nowhere

Hey guys,
I sold my Ace to a guy from a city next to me, and on the first day he said that the battery was worn out, that he wasn't getting juice for even 2 hours.
I looked up for a light ROM, and I found the Stocklite (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703094&highlight=stocklite).
Sent him the procedures (wipe, flash, reboot) and then he said it didn't solve the problem, and sent me these screenshots that are attached. He said they were taken after a full night charge.
Question is, what could be causing the battery to drain so fast, since it was fine with me (8h~12h) with AOKP JB on the day before?
From the screenshots, it seems that it's sleeping well, and it actually does look like the battery is worn out.
It seems that he is using a lot of 3G. Using 3G in areas of low network coverage or places where signal is weak can lead to massive battery drain.
---------- Post added at 05:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:47 PM ----------
Also make sure that he hasnt overclocked the processor.
Thanks for the tips!
I can't tell the guy not to use 3G. And I think it's not overclocked, since he used it after a fresh install of Stocklite ROM. But do you think that those 2 reasons could decrease the battery life to 2 hours?

Personal experience. Things like auto-sync might be activated. Also make sure he is sending you an actual screenshot. Loads of 'em are available on the internet. Take the phone from him if still complains. Let the battery discharge completely, then charge it. Use it for a day and show him the battery graph.
---------- Post added at 08:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:24 PM ----------
And look at the second screenie. He installed bucketloads of apps. Some app containing a malware might be eating battery. Tell him to install an antivirus like Avast.

Thanks man!
About auto-sync, I don't think that's the problem. See how the idle is consuming nearly no juice? About the screenshot being trustable, well, there is not much I can do, the guy is 400km from me, I have to believe him. About a possible malware, he said he got the package in his town and turned the phone on right away, which means that he used it just like I did before I packed it. Could be some kind of damage to the battery on the way to his town. Or, could be a lie. Couldn't tell. Fact is, a battery does not wear out from one day to the other.
EDIT: He suggested me to flash a stock ROM. Ok, he's able to work for it, I guess he's not faking after all. And this could do the trick. Now I have to learn how to flash a stock ROM through Odin, since I have never done it before
EDIT: He's now saying that the battery looks a little swollen. Which means that it's really time to change. Could be some damage due to the shipping. I doubt that, though.
Tell that guy to send you a picture of the swollen battery

There are lot of apps available on Google Play which contain malwares. Google doesnt scan the apps. He installed a lot of apps (can be seen in the second screenshot). Some fake app might be causing the trouble. There can be many reasons.

Hi there,
I had the same problem, really bad battery life (maximum of 8 hrs).
I am a heavy user, using my data connection all the time and reading stuff on public transport.
I just rooted my o4xhd and callibrated my battery yesterday evening.
Today, i still have 57% battery, after 7hrs.
I am really happy it worked!
Still i wonder because i bought the phone new just one week ago.
Does this mean the battery stats were wrongly callibrated already from the manufacturer???

You should really try to callibrate the battery, after rooting.
Read my Previous post, it really helped me!
The last firmware disables some of the active threads. It's.. difficult to figure out which of the included apps don't go inactive, so the cpu idles, and so on. I mean, you could disable all of them, and just load the apps when you need them instead. But it's a bit overkill - and they did good work on the last update.
Hello,
I am thinking about calibrate the battery and use an app called Juice Defender. Is it a good ideia ? Will I get a better battery life ?

[Q] Temperature

Since yesterday my phone gets really hot while charging.
Both a standard charger and a USB connection to my laptop have this eeffect.
The only thing i can think of that i did, was an update of NFC software from playstore.
I have removed all NFC software and will test again tonight.
Anyone else with similar problems?

Don't bother. It is normal for phones to get hot while charging, especially when you are running heavy programs and Wi-Fi.
My phone did reboot once due to overheating. No big deal really.

I also wi'll be looking for it. I'll advertise you if I find the solution before.
There are two possible solutions. First of them is to root your device in order to underclock the CPU to 1,2 Ghz. You won't notice any performance decrease but a considerable heat disminution. The other one solution is to unlock your SP's bootloader, rooting it and install a kernel compatible with undervoltage. Then, undervolt it.
I hope this may help you.
Cheers!
Could NFC be the problem?
First off, thanks everyone for your reactions.
I am a bit dissapointed by the reaction from Sony:
If the battery gets around 60°C or more, you are right to be worried. Try to keep the battery temperature beneath 50°C for a healthy battery life, there are apps and widgets on the Play Store which can measure the temperature.
Make sure there aren't too many demanding apps running in the background, try closing some apps and see what impact it has on the phone (charging or not)
My problem seems solved however. I remembered giving OK to an NFC software update the previous day.
So what i did was undelete NFC software and do a cold reboot.
My battery drainage is back to normal (meaning LOW) and no heatproblems anymore.
Furthermore the heat semmed to be worst arounf the NFC contact area.
Since this is a company phone i cant fool arounf with it to much.
I am curious to know if anyone has had the same experience?
Thanks all and Bye

[Q] battery draining ridiculously fast, any idea?

I've never had this problem with my other Notes. In the last couple of weeks I noticed this started to happen, where I'm losing battery ridiculously fast where I can't really use the phone for more than 3 hours. Battery stats show that "Android System" is using the battery. I got the G Sam Battery Monitor app, which reflects the same thing.
But Android System could be any number of things. Any idea what I should be looking at? Where I should start trying to find a culprit?
Is GPS icon flashing? If so, check which app is running in the backgroud that is using GPS.
Also, clear all of your recent apps and see if it fixes it.
No GPS isn't flashing. And I've gotten in the habit of clearing the recently opened apps. Memory shows 2GB of usage but "no active applications." I can't tell if something in the background would be using GPS.
Clean wipe, Odin flash the stock NJ7 build. re-root
Then reflash the ROM you want. Most likely you got something hung up in the code that it is trying to use and is failing so it is constantly running.
That our you have Facebook installed. Jk, sorta for real though worst app ever for battery.

I'm still stock, so haven't rooted or anything. I've been trying to hold out as long as possible. Other than this new battery issue I was OK without root (gasp).
I do have Facebook, and I'm a Facebook and 9Gag abuser, but if those were the apps draining battery, the stats would reflect them, no?
Like I said, I've never experienced this issue. In the past (see my long list of smartphones) I've always been able to pinpoint what's using my battery. Not this time.

Yes, but that's also not the cause of the battery issues. As Samsung doesn't ship out a phone expecting it get 5 hours of battery life and blame it on "LOL we bloated your phone."
I will undoubtedly end up rooting the phone, as I have done with all others, but I don't want to at this point.
Last night it ran out of battery completely while I was at the bar, so I couldn't charge it. That's the first time the phone shuts off in 21 days since I first got it. All my widgets on Go Launcher were lost for some reason. I'm going to let it run through the battery today and get some screenshots later.

Sorry, forgot to come back to the thread. After that night when I ran out of battery and the phone turned off (for the first time since I purchased it), I've had great battery life again. So something was definitely stuck. I've now restarted the phone and used it heavily the last two days and the phone has lasted me many many hours.
