[Q] AWS on Lumia 620? - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I just bought a Nokia Lumia 620, Telus variant. I knew the phone didn't have the AWS frequencies by default, but I figured the Developer variant did, so, I flashed it, but no joy.
Anyone has an idea of which firmware has these frequencies enabled, or whether this is not possible at all?
Thanks.

There's no T-Mobile version for the 620, is there? Isn't it the 625 or something?
In any case, I can't find a product code for T-Mob for the 620...
Thanks.

you are correct. I was thinking of the Luma 810. Sorry! If you can figure out which chipset is in the Lumia 620, you may be able to cross-reference it.

I don't know the carrier standards very well. After I unlock it, will it work on AT&T and will I get full speed data?
Thanks in advance,

Looks like the T-Mobile version does not have LTE, so that will not work.
UTMS [3G] HSPA(+) [3.5G] should work as the T-mobile version has the same bands as the AT&T version.

Thanks very much for your reply. If I unlocked the AT&T model instead, would I get max data speed on both carriers?

The AT&T model seems to lack the 1700 band T-Mobile uses, although all the rest of the frequency are present, and will most likely to work with T-Mobile's upcoming LTE network. If in your area, T-Mobile uses the 1700Mhz frequency, you will have a problem.

I'm going to buy the AT&T model since it has LTE (and is $100 cheaper). It's just a dev phone so it's not the end of the world if I don't get 3G. I'll post here how it goes.

Barry,
You probably bought your phone by now. For whatever it's worth, I just checked with HTC about Developer Edition of the "One" and although it lists all the frequencies in the spec sheet, they said it will only get 2G speeds on the T-Mobile network. Yes, that is 2G. Not 3G, not UMTS either, and of course no LTE. You might be better off with the AT&T version then. On the other hand, I just signed up with AT&T 4 months ago and have nothing but disconnects, dropped calls, garbled speech or no data whatsoever in my area. I have an HTC One X+. To me, it looks like they totally did an awesome job in marketing, when I was getting excellent reception and none of the above problems with T-Mobile. Again, it could be the area or AT&T's network.
I hope that helps.
Take care,
MW

Which US variant to use in Brazil?

Does anyone know which US variant would be best for use in Brazil? From what I can see the ATT version has band 7 LTE and the TMO version does not, and LTE bands page (below) shows that most carriers there are band 7. This would seem pretty conclusive but wanted to see if there was anything I wasn't thinking of.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
BH
PS - Side question. If I pay full price/not-subsidized for the ATT model, does it still come with a subsidy/SIM lock? I asked Moto cust svc and they say it's locked, but wanted to verify.

[Q] Unlocked / T-Mobile Moto X on AT&T?

This seems like a dumb question, but I'm trying to figure out if an unlocked Moto X off of the Motomaker site will fully work on AT&T. I know Motorola sells the "T-Mobile" version as the unlocked one on their site, which is why I put both in the subject. I can't tell by the specs I'm finding if the unlocked version will work or not, and I'm not real familiar with the exact bands needed on Tmobile and AT&T (we just switched from being long time Verizon users). Any help would be appreciated as I'm supposed to pick it up today from another guy!

Thanks - so if you're paying full retail, there's really zero reason to get the AT&T version vs. the unlocked version off of the motomaker site, it would seem anyway...

Technically, the AT&T version does support one additional LTE band that the TMobile and DevEdition do not. HOWEVER, I've read that that specific band is not used in the US, and my experience has been consistent in that my tmo variant always has LTE coverage whenever my AT&T iPhone does.
I'm leaving Verizon with a T-Mobile motomaker moto x which I'll try on TMs no contract plan. If it doesn't work out, I can always give ATT a try. Seems like a no-brainer to use the TM version.

Interesting - trying to dig up some info on 850. But even still, it covers all the other major ones, and worst case scenario you're falling back onto their HSPA+ which is pretty good in and of itself. I live in the DFW area, and I'm here 99% of the time. So I'm sure it won't be an issue.

The band that the TMO moto x doesn't have is band 5 LTE I think. AT&T only uses 4 and 7 in the US. You're going to be fine getting the tmobile one no matter what GSM carrier you choose.

Actually its two LTE bands (5&7) the T-Mo and GSM Dev X lack compared to the ATT US model. But you are right, they are said to be used outside the USA only, so if you don't plan on traveling, you wont miss them.
See the discussion in this thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2546466
And the since the T-Mo is sim unlocked, and can be bootloader unlocked, Right, if you are paying full retail, there is no reason to buy the ATT (which is sim locked and can't unlock bootloader).

Can you please provide a reference to where the AT&T model supports band 7?
Everything I've read shows 5 but not 7...

The hardware in the AT&T model supports LTE band 7, all XT1058s do. However last time I checked the FCC docs it wasn't approved to use it in the US. In 4.2.2 it wasn't enabled in the AT&T build, in 4.4 I believe that it is though. It is used all across Canada and in some other countries, not sure if the US will ever use it though.

While the TMO version does in fact have all the AT&T LTE bands (your AT&T SIM will work), the hardware itself does not contain all the same bands as the AT&T version. Our TMO version supports: LTE Band 02; LTE Band 04; LTE Band 17 and the AT&T version supports LTE Band 02; LTE Band 04; LTE Band 05; LTE Band 07; LTE Band 17

Cool. Interesting how that's the only place it's mentioned (contrary to all the published specs). Wonder if it was just a slip up or if everybody else got it wrong!?
Oh well, like we both said, won't matter in the US
Ironically enough, I ended up disabling my LTE as HSPDA is fast enough and I get much better battery life with it off...

I can't say if it will work in Italy, but no, you can not change the radio frequencies that the phone supports.

800,1800,2600
The answer is no.
The radios configuration each model has is programmed into the phone just like the serial number. The modem software just reads those values.

Maybe, but more importantly, there needs to be hardware support for the frequencies, which includes the modem, antenna and possibly a power amplifier. While modern chipsets support many LTE bands, the rest of the transceiving hardware will only be for the designed frequencies.
So for Italy, just buy one from UK, Germany or France, those have the European LTE bands (800, 1800, 2600), but of course no Moto Maker. So you have to decide what's more important. Aside from that, the AT&T model has LTE band 7 (2600), if that is enough for you.

I'd say yes, they change hardware parts. Supporting all LTE frequencies would cost too much space.

Already tried that. I have T-Mobile MotoMaker version, when flashed EU DE firmware I lost GSM, had to flash modem from TMO to get it work. Now I have 4.4.2 DE with TMO modem and everything works perfectly (well aside LTE of course)

DID u mean that the LTE works too in Germany with T-mobilr modem??
what bands do u have in Germany?
LTE does not work, everything else does. I'm from Poland, we have here LTE 1800 IIRC. HSPA+ is sufficient for me, I'm getting about 15 MBit/s so I don't complain.

The Ulimate Note 5 Band Guide

Greetings!
I see that there are many different threads asking about what bands are on each model. I have made a basic spreadsheet that has the various bands by model type. I have noted the resource that I have used for this. I'm still missing the SM920c model. If there are any mistakes or additional items please let me know and I will adjust accordingly.
http://1drv.ms/1L0LImY
I hope this is helpful for those importing and ordering for their specific needs.
Thanks for the time and effort
Nice job! This is what i've been looking for. I can't believe these devices are so different.
You are welcome! If someone has the SM-920C model and send me a picture from the back of the box this would be helpful!
I have a SM-N920C but unfortunately nothing is mentioned on the box about supported bands.
Will see next week if European bands are supported by this model
Check *#2263# under Band Selection
Already checked that and it looks promising. Though not sure if all those bands are supported...

Hi, thank you for your efforts on this.
Unfortunately, I'm not a tech person at all and don't really understand how to determine an answer to my question. I'm wondering if you can answer this for me:
I have a Note 5 that's the n920w8 model. It works with my Canadian carrier, Wind, which is AWS 1700/2100 to which they say, "20 megahertz AWS-1" (whatever that means). But they don't offer LTE yet (though they're working on it).
However, it's only 32gb. I've been looking to importing an international version that's unlocked and has dual sim. Its model number is N9208. However, I can't find a definite answer online of whether the imported version will work with my provider and I can't afford that $1000 gamble.
If I'm reading your chart correctly, the difference between the two is that the W model has 1700 and 2100 but the 920 only has the 2100. You've noted on the right that Wind uses that 1700. Since you didn't note on it, is the 2100 in your chart also Wind?
In short, should I import this phone?
Thank you very much.
Thanks for your work on that
No GN5 is compatible with 2600mhz 4G?
Best choice to import in France is choosing a N9208 ?
I can already confirm band 20 is supported by the SM-N920C.
And band 3 as well.
Can someone please confirm... According to this spreadsheet. The hongkong version N9200 and the N9208 will get LTE on the Canadian Rogers network?
I picked up a Silver Titanium Duo Sim version and it definitely works with Fido's LTE.
I am using n9208 on Rogers with lte
Sent from my SM-N9208 using XDA Free mobile app
Has anyone got the N9200 (dual sim) in the UK? I have seen it being advertised as supporting bands 20/26 for LTE.
@aez and @Deliximus, can I ask where you guys got your phones? And are either of you able to confirm they work on Wind? Is there a Wind shop near you you could pop into and check by having the drop a sim in? I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.
Hmmm. I'm a bit confused as my T-Mobile Note has many more bands than what is on the website... See attachment. I wondering if the *#2263# is actually accurate?
