[Q] Dock Mode without the Dock - Motorola Atrix HD

Is there a way to get the Atrix HD into Dock mode without buying the Moto dock? I'd like to use the dock mode while I'm at work, but I feel the price of the desk dock is a little too high for what I'll use it for. I'd like to have it (it looks nice) but can't justify spending that much. I read about an app Dockrunner, but it doesn't exist anymore. Any tips?

Is $10 too much for the dock? Search Amazon for SJYN0914A.

I ordered this, then realized it's for the razr maxx. It appears to be the same dock though, is it? Out does if work with the atrix hd?

Yes, it's interesting they is no reference that they are the same part. Still, the official Atrix HD dock that I ordered, Motorola part number 89582N, has the SJYN0914A part number at the bottom.
---------- Post added at 09:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:35 PM ----------
Also, the Motorola part number for the Droid RAZR dock is 89527N, so I'm not sure what the SJYN0914A part number refers to. I also have a dock with the SJYN0916A part number at the bottom, which I guess is Motorola part number 89526N. This one has 3 USB ports in the back and I have confirmed that it works fine with the Atrix HD, which sees keyboard, mice and USB flash drives plugged in the USB ports. It's $18 at Amazon.

Just to follow up. This item works great. The charger does get the batter a little warm when charging. I suppose it's because it's a 1.5 charger.
I think the reason there is 2 part numbers is because the part# for the RAZR includes the extra plastic piece for that phone...that's my guess. Thanks for your help on this. I love this in my office!

Interesting thing happened today. The dock has been working fine, then suddenly it stopped putting my phone into dock mode. It still charges, but it's not daydreaming or anything else. Have you had any issue like this?

No but my phone is slightly lagging going into and out of dock mode. Once I actually had the opposite with my car dock, where I took my phone off of it but it still stayed in car dock mode!

Maybe it's an issue with my ROM. It pops up the selector for the keyboard layout like it's in dock mode, but daydream will not start. Daydream still works, and if I activate it for 'when charging' it will come up. This is odd.

I think I found that the issue was that the phone wasn't making proper contact with the magnets to enable the mode.
Another question for you. Does using the dock make your battery temp spike? Mine will go up to 100+ F even after it's charged. I'm not sure if it's the charger or the screen heating it up because I use daydream.

No, not warm at all. But I leave the screen off.

Must be daydream then

Slow Charge on Stock Samsung Charger

Guys, I've been rocking my note for 2 weeks now, and I noticed that the charging with the stock samsung charger (if I use it while charging sometimes it drops % ) is reallyyy slow!
Until yesterday I used my old HTC Desire charger, and it worked as a charm, it charged way faster, but unfortunately I gave the phone to my GF and I had to get back to the Samsung one.
Looking at this thread in the AT&T version of the GNote, (http://goo.gl/RUcZ2) it looks like the problem is the stock wire not having the pins shortened. But I'm kinda lost, since I am not an expert of these things.
How did you solve this problem?
Can't you just try with another USB cable?

If it makes that sound, there is a shortage, DO NOT USE IT! It may cause fire. Return it to dealer for a replacement charger.
A charger should not make any sound at all.

Aftermarket Droid 4 Desktop Cradle

Hello all,
I happened to be on Ebay looking for wireless charging pads and case for the D4 when I came across a aftermarket Droid 4 desktop charging cradle. I wanted to get everyone else's opinion. It is on Ebay and ships from Hong Kong using Singapore Post. Ebay seller has over 54K reviews. Lemme know what you think:
http://bit.ly/QHih3p
Price is $17.49, not bad IMHO
I have similar if not the same exact one...
It will not activate the desk dock mode since it is only a USB connection and the new phones require USB/HDMI connections to turn this on.
You can download razr dock from the play store and use a Smart Actions action to launch it when plugged in though...
Smart Actions:
Name - (I named mine Docked)
Trigger - Charging - Wall adapter
Actions - Launch Application - Razr Dock
App: http://tinyurl.com/93wdnu3
Overall....works well, formed to the Droid 4 so that it is easy to place in the dock, charges it and with Razr Dock running it emulates the actual dock in bedside mode. Looks a little off on Gingerbread but works perfectly on ICS (clock in Gingerbread has weird different sized numbers...sometimes).

Ahh you're right! I didn't even notice that. It may still be worth a purchase because the developer seems to be on top of the bugs the dock app you suggested has.
It's a shame that for a phone as versatile as this one, that a OEM dock doesn't exist.

not totally correct. the HDMI connection is not necessary to activate dock mode. the usb is sufficient. i tore apart my
Motorola HD Dock and removed the HDMI connection because it was annoying me. It was nothing but a simple passthru, however the USB connection had some kind of circuitry between where you plug in the dock, and where it plugs into the phone. it's this circuit that kicks the phone into dock mode. I think i will be ordering this dock from ebay, and pulling my dock circuit from my HD dock as it annoys me to no end.
I think I may go and purchase this today. If anything, it'll look nice on my desk at work. I've never been a fan of the kickstand cases Verizon has.

For me the Droid 3 Multimedia Dock is a better option - it might be a bit more expensive, but its ability to route audio and video, plus the fact that it engages the dock mode options makes it better. I suspect the aftermarket docks won't even put the phone into landscape.
Cheers,
Steve.

Indeed, I agree totally, that sounds a lot more appealing. Some of the Droid 3 docks, has been a bit short of space to fit the Droid 4 into, though. But that one might work fine, I don't know.
Is it the one by Moto or Verizon?

I just took the original plastic insert out, and then used epoxy putty to fashion my own for a nice snug fit for the D4.

Actually, I am looking for a simple, usb charge cradle for bedside charging of my Razr i. The Amazon.de cradle (page 1) looks very nice, but does not deliver to abroad (The Netherlands in my case); and I cannot find this charger in my country. The official one (Amazon, page 1), is much too sophisticated for me.
Anybody any idea, help for a usb charge desktop cradle, nice design, which ships internationally (The Netherlands, in my case)?
Thanks in advance!

Don't think that they would fit as the MicroUSB plug is the wrong way round (on the first one you can barely see it on the picture and I guess the seond one has an HTC Sensation mounted and there the socket is the different way round to the RAZR i).
This one might be better but don't know for sure... : http://www.amazon.de/Desktop-Charge...TF8&colid=3H1MXASJ3ECXT&coliid=I1R3WOTI4LCZGM, at least it looks to be the correct way on the picture but may be a different size/length...

[Q] Power on cover when charging

Power on cover when charging,
I don't know if I use the correct words but when my TF701 is charging and I go over the cover with my fingers I feel a some tingling.
If I rotate the charger in the socket it's a bit else but still it's there.
When I use my TF101 charger I don't feel this at all.
Any else feel this and know a possible solution?

It's common on the tf700 as well as if the tablet is not fully grounded while charging.

I have this issue with my TF700 when in Europe but not when in the United States. It only happens when charging the keyboard dock. Since I use the same charger and don't have any issues with other electronic devices, I assume that it is related to a combination of the voltage and grounding in my dock.
Got my TF701 today and its the same.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 4
some details
Here's what I have noticed so far:
Infos:
- The TF101 was shipped with a different charger. On that one I have a set of plugs to match different sockets (sort of a travel adapter).
- I live in Switzerland, ungrounded connectors look a bit like this <- -> and can be used rotated. Connectors with PE look more like this <-.->, and cannot be rotated.
- In any test I used the docking, and tried with two identical power supplies
- The TF101 charger showed this effect from day one, but only in one orientation. Use it the other way round, problem gone.
- The TF30x charger shows this effect, but in both charger orientations, and slightly less noticeable
- The TF701 charger shows the same effect as with the TF30x
Let's swap chargers. (The cables are different, the chargers themselves, which generally are no more than 5V/15V CV, which switch from 5V to 15V when a tablet is detected are interchangeable).
This showed the effect is clearly caused by the chargers. It's safe to say there's different circuitry inside the different charger revisions.
My conclusion: If you want to get rid of this effect, try finding one of the old international chargers and use it with your TF701 cable.
What may work: Try an isolation transformer
Also worth a try: Aftermarket chargers

also, wikipedia has an article about stray voltage (warning: technical)

How loud is the Samsung Fast Wireless charger?

Just wondering how loud your chargers are?
Mine is louder than my entire PC (which is pretty noise-optimised to be fair).
And the fan is on all the time while charging (ive heard that its meant to turn off when its not hot) .
I'm getting really annoyed by this charger.
A charger that makes noise??? I don't even hear mine. It's not a fast but regular wireless.

It's really quiet, I get more "coil noise" from some of my other fast chargers. My Surface Pro 4's fan is 10x louder than the Samsung Fast wireless charger, so unless there's a jet turbine in his I doubt it's that loud.

Just as an update. I have 3 now. Two from the same seller. One from a different seller. All appear to be legit.
All 3 are quite loud. One in particular i think is broken because of how loud it is
All have the same sn on the actual charger. rf7g80ag77acis
The box for #1 and #2 have differnet numbers, but #3 has the same one.
I am using a Samsung USB Power Plug.Do you have tried another?Tell us the bad thing so that we could avoid being defrauded:good:
I dont have another plug to try unfortunately, and the wall chargers are quite expensive.
I'm starting to think all these ebay chargers are legit, but maybe not A+ stock. Maybe the fans are loud (all 3), or the paint is peeling a bit (two of mine)
Totally guessing here.

Someone on whirlpool took one apart, along with a legit one. Components inside were identical. Also the weights matched. Packaging was identical, fast charging works perfectly (confirmed on all three of mine).
There are a lot of fakes on eBay I agree. But they all cost $15 or so. The ones I purchased were $40 and $50 from sellers many others on whirlpool had purchased from
And in reply to the guy who said the fan doesn't turn on when not using a Samsung fast charger adapter.... Yeah that's by design. Same result by switching off fast charging in the phone settings. Fan doesn't turn on

Do you have a link to the teardown? I'm interested to see what's inside componentwise.
Don't mean to derail this thread but instead of creating a new one. I've been meaning to ask: does your Samsung fast wireless pad not turn off (blue lights are still lit up) after charging your phone to 100%? I've got the proprietary standard wireless charging pad but it automatically shuts off once done charging my phone. I'm suspecting a problem with the former but would like to be sure so I went ahead posting it here..
Thanks in adVance!
