I've been trying to use Moto Connect to send and receive sms messages from the Chrome browser but I'm getting a huge lag between receiving the message on my phone and it showing in the Moto Connect window. Any idea how to improve the update cycle for the extension.
I'm still on 4.2.2 and using Hangouts if that matters

I'm on 4.4 and its working fine for me. Just using default sms app, not hangouts. There is a lag but its just a few seconds.. maybe updating to kitkat will help?

It's been almost a week since the stock Messages app started acting up.
If I try to open the app by tapping the icon, it will start, briefly show the messages and close itselt with an error prompt that allows me to close it or send an error report. If I receive an SMS and tap the notification, the app opens and shows the message, I can reply and it works fine this way.
Restarting the phone sometimes solves this right away but it appears at random times. I don't text that much via SMS (mainly WhatsApp and Skype) but it's annoying to not be able to open the app to send an SMS on the rare occasions I need to.
I have an unlocked US model, I'm not rooted or anything. Using stock with Nova Launcher Prime and a couple icon packs.
Has anyone experienced this problem with the Messages app?
I'm currently waiting for the 4.2.2 update to show on the phone. I hope this is fixed in this update.
If the update doesn't fix it, I will try Textra or SMS Now. I've read good things bout them but I really didn't need an extra messaging app since I received or need to send 1-3 SMS a day.
Having a 3rd-party SMS apps will interfere with the stock Contacts and Dialer apps in some way?

First thing I would do is go into settings > apps >all. Go to messages then force stop. Reset defaults and delete data.. That should reset anything you may have changed on error. If that doesn't work do a factory reset. If that doesn't work then I would say your launcher has a conflict
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
I already deleted its cached data and reset default options. Could be Nova Prime Launcher having a conflict with Messages, but the strange thing is that it started to happen long after installing Nova.
I'm waiting for the 4.2.2 update. When it shows I will update and do a factory reset.
Thanks
I updated to Hangouts 2.0 and have it handling my SMS/MMS messaging and now Motorola Connect no longer notifies me of new messages on my computer(s). It must have relied on the stock Messaging app somehow. Is everyone else experiencing the same loss of functionality when they've updated to Hangouts 2.0? I haven't tried to send an outgoing text message via Motorola Connect so I'm not sure if that still works or not. Hopefully they find a resolution rather soon as Motorola Connect was pretty handy for me while at work.
Motorola Connect probably doesn't have the rights to access the SMS Store/Notifcations directly, therefore relied on a bit version of SMS.
I have never used Motorola Connect, I used the CM MMS Apk then have now started using Hangouts.
You can turn off SMS in Hangouts and continue to use the stock messaging application.

I'd rather just stick with Hangouts now that I have it. I've turned off Motorola Connect and disabled my stock Messaging app in the meantime. Hangouts works great.
My connect is working with the new Hangouts app. I had to log out of Motorola Connect on both my phone and computer, but it now works.
Yep log out completely then signs back in

Thanks! I was just curious why I cannot download it from the Playstore when it already shows the new version...oh well.
I'm assuming it will soon be rolling out to everyone, just gotta wait I suppose.
Downloaded the latest version of Hangouts APK from Androidpolice. Not able to send receive MMS. Everything else works fine. Anyone else having issues with MMS? I'm on Moto X Verizon stock everything.
EDIT: Nevermind just found this thread. Must be a Verizon issue.

Anyone else get this working? I just got the update for hangouts but Motorola connect doesn't work with it. I unlinked and linked the accounts 3 times but the notifications don't show up. If I refresh connect the messages show up, but notifications don't pop up when I get a message. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm having the exact same issue with Moto Connect. I figure we have to wait till Motorola comes up with an update to make it compatible with Hangout SMS
Got my Nexus 6 today. I'm on T-Mobile. I set my hangouts to be my default sms app. No matter who I send a text to, it says error message not sent. If I send a normal hangout message to another hangout user its fine. Is their a known issue with hangouts and 5.0 or something?
Same issues here. I am trying everything. Had issues since day 1, but haven't had time to look into it. Sprint Nexus 6 here.

I do know there was an update for the regular messenger app. Not sure if that's the problem or not but worth a check.
I switched carrier settings from lte to global and all my mms messages just flooded in at once. I can now send pic and group mms in hangouts and still have the same lte signal. Hopefully this solves your issue!
Just following up, my issues returned while i was out last night. I switched to 3g and again received a flood of incoming mms. Its frustrating to say the least.
Whenever I open a Hangouts message from the active notifications on my Moto X, it automatically scrolls to the very top of the thread. This is for Hangouts messages and SMS messages inside the Hangouts app. I then have to manually scroll all the way down. It appears to happen sometimes when I get a message while the phone is unlocked, but every time when the phone is locked and I click the active notification. Has anyone else encountered this problem and/or found a solution? Is there a shortcut to auto-scroll back to the bottom?
I searched Google, and all I can find are tons of threads about Hangouts messages from the computer loading one by one in the thread on the phone app, requiring scrolling down to load each one. This is not the problem I am having, and the solutions offered (such as changing animation settings in developer options) do not fix my problem. I'm posting in the Moto X-specific forum because this is only happening to me on my Moto X 2014. I'm running 5.0 stock unrooted. I was not having this problem on my GS5 on stock unrooted 4.4.4 yesterday, my Nexus 7 on AOSPA 5 last week, or my Nexus 9 on AOSPA 5 today. This leads me to believe it is a Moto X-specific or stock 5.0-specific problem rather than a Hangouts-general problem.
I have the same issue also. It's not a moto x problem
I have found that if I back out of the thread then re-enter it, it starts me off back at the bottom. It's not ideal, but it works for now.
I've had that issue on my Moto X 2013 running 4.4.4. It's not a specific problem to the Moto X 2014. Can't tell you if it is happening on my Moto X 2014 since I had switched a few months ago to Google's Message app.

Do you not use Hangouts at all anymore? Because it is happening to me with Hangouts messages and SMS, so even if I switch apps, I still have to deal with it happening with Hangouts messages. And I have tested it several different ways on my Nexus 9 and cannot replicate the problem.

Yup. I stopped using hangouts. I just could not stand the UI.
My lady and I use hangouts to chat at work, so we use hangouts pretty much exclusively for seamless conversion when we are away from the computer or on our tablets, so I'm a slave to hangouts.
We just need an update for hangouts

But is it a Hangouts issue or a Moto X issue? I can't find any threads or anything about it on Google, and I have not experienced it on any other device. Dark experienced it on Moto X 2013, and it happens 100% of the time I open from active notifications, so I think the issue lies with active notifications.
I can confirm that this is fixed in 5.1, so just hope that the OTA is not far away

Nice. Thanks!
Hi,
So I have a Moto X (2nd gen) with marshmallow and root and I use google messenger. Sometimes when i text something and press ''send'' after a few seconds while it is sending the message, It then shows that ''not sent, tap to try again'' and when i tap again it sends the sms just fine. I have the same problem while using stock sms app.
It's really annoying and I always have to make sure that my sms is sent because i never know when it is going to happen. It happens really randomly. Maybe somebody got an idea what could be the cause of this ?
Thanks.
