Does anyone know where the phone.apk would be located? Or even the exact name?
I have looked in system/app and system/app-priv and haven't found anything except dialer.apk. if I go into my .apk freezer it populates a list and com.android.phone shows up. I am thinking this is what I am looking for. But I can't find it elsewhere.
Any help would be great.
Thanks

So it appears I am not the only one that can't find this elusive .apk

I think I have found what I was looking for. I believe that the dialer.apk is in fact the phone.apk as well as dialer.

I am not sure I understand. Dialer.apk is the only phone app on the stock Motorola rom. If you look at the 'Phone' from the app drawer App Info, it lists the app as 'Dialer'. If you use a program like ROM Toolbox Pro (just what I have ), it lists Dialer.apk and Dialer.odex in /system/priv-app using the file explorer (or any other root file explorer I'm sure). Under the App Manager, it only lists Dialer as a system app with the phone icon shown. There is no com.android.phone shown. I have a feeling your 'apk freezer' is not showing things correctly.
Edit - lol, guess you figured it out while I was typing away

I was wondering if there's a program for editing framework n such, that is 'optimizing'? (not even sure if I'm asking right)
I recently pulled my framework n modified the status bar with a program called 'paint.' Everything worked fine but afterwards my battery took a hit. (jumped up bout 60mA)
Also I wasn't able to pull framework-res after I pushed it bak.
I know I pushed it correctly, n I was able to pull other stuff so I'm confused...
Anyway, I heard the former can happen if the images aren't optimized, so now this is my concern. Do I need a special program, n where do I find it? (Free is preferred
Notef coarse I tried Google 1st, and xda (though from phone) ,but found nothing
Nvrm,I think I figured it out, I had permissions set wrong, n framework in wrong place
apk manager will optimize images
Cool thnx

hello i currently have a motorola milestone, i plan on getting the sidekick 4g eventually but is there anyway to get the sidekick mms apk to install and function on my phone? i tried pushing it, it shows up on root uninstaller but no messaging app appears in my app drawer... i also thought i would make this my first apk editing project to no avail since there is no smali file in the apk itself... i used apktool to decompile it... any help and answers are greatly appreciated i just want a good stock messaging app. not handcent or gosms ive tried both but neither really give me the feel i want
So, after I rooted my phone I started cleaning out some of the system apps that I didn't want and couldn't uninstall (Google Books, Movies, etc.) and I also removed the stock messaging app (stupid). It turns out that it is important and now I can't text from any other SMS app at all without it crashing.
Would anyone be willing to share their stock system messaging apk with me so I can put it back where it belongs? I can't seem to find it online anywhere. I know I really should be more careful, it was a thoughtless mistake. Thank you very much for your time.
SOLUTION: I found the Mms.apk in the system dump from the XT1097 Moto X and used a root explorer to move it into my /system/priv-app (possibly unnecessary, I tried this first), then I just took the apk and installed it like a normal app. Maybe this will help someone, but hopefully no one else will be as careless as me and need it.
Until yesterday I was using Nexus 5 and since today my brand new Moto X but I noticed that a very useful function doesn't seems to be there: the built in search in the dialer.
Is it because of this?

Is it still exclusive to Nexus line !?
Any way to make it work on our Moto X ?
P.S. The apk of the link is the old one, the new one is this: http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...-4-3-works-on-android-4-4-2-too-apk-download/
And has the same colours of the one in Moto X 2014
It has always been exclusive to Nexus devices. You can try side loading the Nexus dialer.
Its not true its only for nexus devices. Google play edition devices get it as well. I have it on my HTC m8 that was converted to GPE

I wonder if the pure gets it?
I have the pure edition and it doesn't have it. I just tried using the dialer from my m8. Its the same deal as the old one. You can have the google dialer but need to have the standard dialer installed as well. I tried removing the dialer and using just the google dialer with the teleservice apks and that didn't work at all. Settings kept fcing. Then I restored the stock teleservice apk but left the Google dialer. That made the call but then while in call you can't access the phone so you can't end the call, use the dial pad etc.. The last thing was restore the stock dialer and keep both the stock dialer and the google dialer with the stock teleservice and that seemed to work but incoming calls are routed through the stock dialer, not the google one.

I downloaded the dialer apk in the link and it seems to work now. Just use the app "AppHider" to hide the duplicate phone icon. It doesn't disable the apk so phone calls will work. You need to be rooted for the app to work though

I'm running a rooted Moto X with Krypton ROM 1.4.1 and his latest kernel (0006 I think) I like to run this bad boy all blacked out and I have done so with everything but the contacts app. I have the TBO apps and xposed rocking.. But I can't get any contacts app to invert. I flash and the app shows in the priv app file but not in the drawer. Wont show up anywhere but in priv app folder. I try to use my dialer to access it out days no program available to access that info. I've flashed about 5 different versions and pushed the same amount. I've wiped so much it hurts and I've fixed permissions a ton....... Can anyone help me? It's driving me batty not having a blacked out contacts.

Eclipse comes with a inverted contacts.
Eclipse one didn't work.... But I flashed the Ultima ROM one and it worked. It's got gradient and isn't pure black but it's a lot better than white.
